    Big thanks Captain Andy for your relentless, commitment to providing a daily bystander visual documentation of this massive project in the midst of this pandemic. This day certainly HAS been a long time coming!
    Well done and congratulations to all the salvage crew also big shout out to the families of all the folks involved for their patience and tenacity. There’s finally a glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel and hopefully soon we’ll have our husbands and sons safely back home and your beautiful Georgia coastal region will be cleared up and cleaned of all damage and remnants and can then heal and rejuvenate back to its former glory.
    I sincerely pray that we never ever see such a big ship in that situation again. Unfortunately the shipping world seems to be creating more and more of these giant vessels as 21st century consumer demand requires. I fear for the environmental impact of our world these monsters create when we have such disasters as we’ve witnessed in St Simons Sound.
    Hope to never hear the words “Golden Ray” ever again. ( as I’m sure you feel the same too).
    Stay safe and well Andy and thank you again for all you do. Hope to one day meet you, buy you a beer and sit on the beach and enjoy a clear seascape view of “The Golden Isles”.

    I am a tad curious about anything that may have fallen off the ship at the end of each cut section that may be on the bottom of the sound there. maybe some clean up yet to do after the ship is removed.
    glad to see things getting closer to back to normal. this did highlight a few major questions regarding the operation of cargo ships in ports (proper ballasting, knowing where the weight is on the ship not just cargo dimensions, etc), we can hope that lessons are learned to prevent this from happening again.

    Well thank you very much Capt Andy for keeping us posted on the progress!! This was probably not what you expected when you started to cover this operation, that you would be posting videos on youtube for almost a year now.
    Some numbers: it has been 303 days since cut 1 was commenced, and in total 132 days of those they were actually cutting. Longest cut: number 3, with a total of 51 days of cutting action, quickest finish: cuts 4 and 6, in just 8 days.
    Not quite the one-day-per-cut they predicted, but they've got the job done anyway. Congrats to the crew for their commitment and continuous struggle, much respect for them as well as for you to keep on going no matter what!
    Any plans on what you are going to report next? ;)

  • @dickdaley9059
    @dickdaley9059 3 роки тому +8

    Those last two hull sections are using the vehicles as support before collapsing inward. The steel beams between the lifting lugs are there to help spread the hull load out horizontally. Securing and transporting them will be dicey. This is where great care must be executed to avoid a disaster during the final stages of salvage.

    • @haroldsmith45302
      @haroldsmith45302 3 роки тому

      I wonder how the vehicles near the bottom will be extricated without triggering further deck collapse. That would be very dangerous work. Perhaps the salvage team will flame-cut and remove upper sections of the hull to reduce weight before attempting to extricate the lower vehicles.

    • @dickdaley9059
      @dickdaley9059 3 роки тому +1

      Assuming there are no cracks in hull now, it might be advisable to weld the outer hulls to the stabilizing jacks onboard the dry dock vessel. Not much strength to apply considering the total mass but maybe enough to get it into Port of Brunswick to begin further lightering without collapsing. These last two sections may not make the trip to LA if serious structural integrity is found.

Once those cars are removed, that section of hull will be even more unstable. We shall see what else they have to do to finally dispose of the wreck, once its completely removed...
