they should bring in the crusher that flattens the cars then load them on a truck, the smashing like this can cause damage to that trailer & truck chassis!!!!
Very little if any thing will be salvaged from those cars and trucks. They will probably go to a facility that will shred the cars in a shredder or hammer mill. They will try to get all the tires they can off before they get shredded. Look up the name of the recycler if they have a web site and check how they process the scrap. Glad you are feeling better and keep the videos coming. ps I used to work at a recycling yard.
You’d be very surprised, everything will be recycled from the alternator/starter to the cars wiring system anything not metal will be separated from the cars on the shredders Edie current system. It’s an amazing process. It the car has a aluminum roof or frame it will all be separated.
You know those operating engineers make very good money. I wish we could remove some government officials as easily as he or she is moving the cars into the trash hauler.
Wow the tractor trailer air bags are getting a major work out…. Hope that truck doesn’t have to go through a scale house 🤔🤔 and I noticed that the big truck had a containment cloth under him… I also think the command center is watching and reading your comment section 😅😅😅 releasing a report with video up close..Coincidence ❓❓ I don’t believe in Coincidences 😏 Thank you Captain Andy for showing us the claw it’s awesome and the operator is really skilled…Stay safe and dry and God Bless and Gods Speed 🙏 See ya 🤗🤗
The Grapple operator is amazing. Your drone work is excellent. Thanks for showing the cutting of the GR by Unified Command. Awesome video as all of them are!
Capt Jones: phenomenal video of unloading the barge. You could teach Hollywood a thing or two. Your drone is amazing! Looks like the cutting is about done. We hope you are continuing to feel better. Stay safe.
The liquid you saw coming out was probably water. All of the fuel tank vet hoses as well as the fuel would burn in the fire and water would fill any voids. I worked in a scrapyard for 40 years. That operator is slow compared to the operators that load the conveyors that feed shredders.
Great video ! Loved watching the heavy equipment operator at work and that close up of the chain cutting on the Golden Ray was awesome ! But it’s kinda spooky watching the hull of the Golden Ray shake like it did. Thanks again Capt Andy for a great video and stay safe out there on the Sound.
There’s also nickel in the converters. Plus the actual car itself is worth some money. I run one of those scrap handlers every day. After awhile it amazing what I can do with one
There is a lot of non-metallic components in modern cars. I assume they will be shredded, the non-metallics separated from the metal, and the metal sent on to be melted down. I don’t know what happens to the non-metallics. Maybe put in a landfill?
The pressurize squirting was probably a tire seal letting go. Great report, Capt! Rather sad to see all those new vehicles reduced to scorched skeletons.
He sure wouldn't be crushing cars on my tractor. They should have had a portable crusher done 2-3 at a time during unloading. Must be a good union job..🤣
They sure are handling these a lot of times. I have said before, that grapple machine must have a camera on the claw, no way the operator can see down in that mess! Great drone work!! We can make you a drone captain too!
I am going to be the fly in the ointment guy so go easy on me. The grapple operator is very good at lifting the wreckage. It appears to me that he is trying to be too precise. We are not building a watch. Load that trailer as full as possible, kick it out & pull in the next trailer. At the rate he is going I would guess it takes him a couple of hours to load each trailer. Ultimately all the cars in the hopper barge have to go. Grab a handful, put it in the trailer and move on! Ok let the beatings begin. Thanks for the report Capt. Andy.
With the depth perception and hand/eye coordination of that Grapple operator, I'll bet he is a Champ at playing video games. Thank you for another quite interesting update Andy.
This procedure has occurred each time after weight shedding. The operator told me that this blue grapple machine has a weight lifting capacity of 56,000 lb.
Maybe there wasn’t enough volume of vehicles to warrant setting up a crusher on site. From the narration it appears they were just taking vehicles to the other side of town to a metal recovery facility. Industrial shredders are amazing.
If you look under the trailer he is loading they have a containment barrier. Its to catch any fluids that may leak from the cars. If they were to use a car crusher they would have oil and fluids from the cars all over the place. When you use a crusher you have to drain all the fluid from each car before crushing. Rear end, transmission, engine, etc.
Hopefully the liquid being ejected when parts (gas tanks?) were being crushed will be nothing more than sea water that has flooded in..... what a mess, the water immersion will make recovery for recycling that much more difficult. Not sure if the tires can be salvaged and the steel wires from radial construction reclaimed. Hopefully much of the metal can be reclaimed, but interior trim parts etc will be ruined. A total mess
Fascinating. I agree Capn' could watch that grapple for hours. That guy is good. Of course here in South Africa we could have that barge cleared overnight. Our midnight procurers would have come in there at night and tomorrow be selling second hand parts alongside the road and carting the metal off to a scrap yard. They are now stealing railroad track on a mammoth scale.
Hi Andy the flatter more we can get in glad truck is on spill mat , what happens to all the oily mess in the hopper barge will it be pumped out then processed!
Very cool video. I'm not really a car or truck person, although I like them, but I'm really wondering what some of those vehicles are, besides shredder fodder! I wonder how long that trailer will last if it goes through more cycles of having cars and trucks dumped in it and then smashed down. I know the trailer is tough, but... He does do a great job. Full cars and bits of them, all handled like he's done this a million times! Thanks Andy!
Andy, I'm with you. I can watch this all day. Does this part of the operation ever run 24/hr days. And, do you recall this operation when it started? Have they gained efficiency?
Did any one get the manifest sheet of all the vehicles that where on the ship .Also what is the total coast of lost cargo Thanks Captain Looks like your doing better Be Well and Be Safe Great Job as always I you think this is Neat to watch , Head to the Shredder that Grinds them up and separates the different metals 👍
With labor cost what they are the yard that I worked in would only take the easiest parts off (as many tires that they could get off easy) and shred the rest. It all depends on the labor cost in your area.
When they were cutting this up we saw a lot of vehicles going to the river are they ever going to get those out they must have oils gasoline in them that will eventually leak out in the saltwater Marshes
RoRo ships are not very strong. Attempting to roll it back over would more than likely cause it to break up. The interior of these vessels are open. Not much in the way of bulkheads or ribs. MM
FYI...the Unified Command has some great pictures posted on their we update this morning. They also have a short video, but it is periodically unavailable for viewing. They are getting very close...
I'm surprised they don't run these cars through a portable crusher first then load them on the truck , They would be able to max out the legal weight and would be a lot less wear and tear on the suspension of truck they're smashing them in. A portable crusher would be able to crush these cars down to a bale smaller than the size of a refrigerator. As a teenager I worked in a large wrenching yard running a magnetic crane dropping cars into a crusher all day long.
Andy; I still don't understand why the ship wasn't patched and pulled back upright into deeper water. Most of the cars could have been recovered and sold
they should bring in the crusher that flattens the cars then load them on a truck, the smashing like this can cause damage to that trailer & truck chassis!!!!
All that smashing can't be good for that tractor's suspension and fifth wheel.

it is against the law to recycle such highly toxic trash as government officials plus they have zero value

Wow, thanks! MM
someone is going to make a fortune getting those catalytic converters
There sure is a lot of toxic soup in the bottom of the hopper barge!
Just the cost of cleaning it out must be staggering.
Watching that grapple is good stress relief. Thank you to that highly skilled operator. Great cutting shots too.
Great report Andy. Thank you.
I think they are marinading those cars in a special sauce in that barge😂

My question is what are they going to do with that liquid in that barge
I agree watching machine operators work is fascinating.
That is one nasty mess, so glad we have people that know how to deal with it. So glad to have you back bro!

That trailer is taking some serious abuse with that hammer. LOL I can watch stuff like this for hours and hours.

That guy definitely knows how to operate the machine good to see you feeling better you stay safe will be looking forward to the next video👍
You got that right! MM
Catalytic converter, copper wire harness, computers and chips, air bags are the main items still good and worth scrapping
With the depth perception and hand/eye coordination of that Grapple operator, I'll bet he is a Champ at playing video games. Thank you for another quite interesting update Andy.
Like an extension of his body. MM
Another great video really in joyed watching 👍👍👍
Thank you 👍. MM

@@garry4816 good point, though they’ve been on fire too so I wonder how much fluid is left, most probably went into the ocean.
That's a lot of money being scrapped ,those are all new cars and trucks ,i see some 50,000.00 dollar trucks in that pile.

It all gets shredded
I noticed the leak pad underneath the trailer.
Ah, what a satisfying job this person has.

Seems to be a daylight activity. They have been moving cars into the trucks since they started weight shedding operations. MM
It looks like the truck is parked on some type of environmental hazmat mat.

@@MinorcanMullet do you know of the website to find this manifest?
Tough to think that those were all new vehicles. A lot of folks have never even been in a brand new car, much less been able to afford buying one.

send many crash cars to the metal recycle center
All those new tires/wheels and catalytic convertors.................... Operator should be paid by the Ton, not by the hour!

Every vehicle will be found, salvaged and documented. EPA will not allow the insurers to leave anything behind.

Would make them easier to unload too, smashing them flat in the truck means they’ll splay out onto the sides of the trailer.
Dang i been late getting to the party. Thanks for the video
I would bet this is beyond buffing out😊
That cant be good for the Tractor.
I can’t believe these cars are not on Craigslist as slightly used low mileage.
Ran when parked!
how many cars were on that ship??
4200+. MM

South. Port of Brunswick, Ga. MM
are these new cars?
They were. MM
Andy; I still don't understand why the ship wasn't patched and pulled back upright into deeper water. Most of the cars could have been recovered and sold
This is too much handling. They should have brought in a portable crusher to flatten the cars then hauled them off.
Or could had a 3 foot deep crushing tank next to the trailer with a heavier bobb.
