Roger Plant returns once more, this time with his new robot, Wheely Big Cheese. Suicidal Tendencies are also involved again, looking to build on their heat final in The Third Wars.
You gotta feel sorry for Peter Gibson and Wheelosaurus during their battle against Suicidal Tendencies but you gotta love the man. He's a gentleman, a great sport, fun and a well respected Roboteer. Wheelosaurus wasn't gonna last long but you gotta admire the work Peter put into it and the fun it brought us. Shame we never saw him again after the 4th Wars but still, a great robot with a great Roboteer.
I'm amazed by the patience shown by roboteers when they're rushing to fix their robots against a deadline and Philippa interrupts them and sticks a microphone in their face. I'm afraid I wouldn't be that patient if I was working on my car.
That first round was amazing. Starts off with Wheelie big cheese ignoring the other contestants and going straight for Sir Killalot. Then it ends with the house robots pitting all the contestants in the last few seconds.
Again they are telling lies about Killertron :D Previously they said that they were elminated in first series grand final! Anyway i think they should be seeded
Wrong summary. Suicidal Tendencies was immobilised on one side, thus lost rightfully on a technicality. It's what also should've happened with it in Series 3 against Raizer Blade, regardless of the latter's predicament with the pit that Suicidal Tendencies didn't cause.
I always liked Killertron, but like a lot of the veteran robots in the alter wars, they just weren't up to snuff with the newer competitors. Series 1 it was perfectly fine (even if they only had 4 shots with the weapon), and Series 2 was a good upgrade. Had they entered Series 3, they could have done with some more upgrades. Series 4, they really either needed a major overhaul or a new robot. Killertron was just too immobile, the weapon was too slow and not damaging enough, and they had no srimech. Also as always, Peter Gibson is just a lovely man, and I always love seeing Wheelosaurus, even if it was out of date by even series 2!
Welp. I just noticed that the footage of Killertron that's in the background of its stat board plays in reverse from about 12:58. Watch the flame in front of it! Now I'm going to have to go back and rewatch all the previous statboard footage in the background, do they all run in reverse at a certain point?? EDIT: Observations of Maverick and ST's footage suggests maybe? There's nothing in the foreground to watch but I can just about see stuff in the distance that seems to reverse! The other three though I can't tell because the flame by Prizephita could just be flickering a little oddly and any element I could use to judge WBC and Spikeasaurus are covered by the stats. >.>; As for the last battle... I assume it's the whole "can't move outside its circumference = immobilized" rule... only I don't know if immobilization was yet defined by that at this point. >.>;
They do the reverse due to the amount of time each clip has so if a robot has a longer stats and jonathan has to read a lot then they reverse it so it lasts longer.

Well as long as there's 'controlled movement' It shouldn't matter how many wheels are functioning. so if the robot can manage to flip around controlabily, it should still count as functional.

(Before the fight started, I would have bet on the Cheese - I *like* Wheely Big Cheese, but I think ST should have won that one)

The rule _was_ there. If a robot can move outside of its circle to mount an attack, fair enough. But if not, it's a fair reason to rule against it. I didn't like that Behemoth didn't get that treatment when immobilised on one side against Magnetar, although I was later alright with it personally as Behemoth immobilised Magnetar fully despite the former's mobility trouble.
It did. The reason why they said Killertron placed 3rd and not 4th is because they dropped most references to Cassius, and in particular its driver Rex Garrod, in all wars after the third one. Cassius was mentioned once or twice in the 5th Wars, but that was it. This was all because of Rex Garrod quitting Robot Wars after the 3rd Wars due to health and safety concerns raised after a couple of noteworthy accidents occurred. @@KingCanada It’s unfortunate, but understandable, that Rex left the series. He was one of the best sportsmen there, not interested in building destructive machines that would wreck the first thing kids had built. Frankly, I’d have left over the same concerns. All health and safety regulations have some calculations to do on acceptable risk in the name of convenience, but it sounds like the failsafes used were really not sufficient, without actually providing greater convenience. Like, one of them in the third wars stopped working just because its switch got hit on the arena floor. You might think that’s the opposite problem, but that means it’s reasonably easy to jostle. I’m hoping that was just the main activation switch, and there was a secondary failsafe in line, but from my reading, I’m doubting that was the case. If I were to write regulations for this, I’d require an electrical disconnection from the electronics, and a mechanical disconnection from drive and weapons, such that even if either disconnect were to fail, and somehow become reconnected, there’d be no way for a serious malfunction. Both would have to fail at the same time.
@@KingCanada Ahh so they went full on malicious rather than take the comments in mind to help ensure that robots featured on TV represents high-end safety, so people seeing it and getting inspired by it is exposed to it with 'and there is safety features in the robots to reduce risks', etc. A lot of those early-bots were rather ramshackle looking not to mention a few that looked extremely well made but had rather suddenly breakdowns and whatnot that clearly indicated that something was wrong on the inside.
I understand that killertron are 4th seeds in second series but because there didn’t show up In series 3 there lost there seeds ranks in series 4 there are unseeded team unlucky killertron

One track may have been broken but other robots have carried on with a wheel missing. They were still in control and proved it by winning. As people have said, this is a decision that led to the ratification of why it's like this in future wars but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Suicidal Tendencies showed it was the better robot all the way through the heat, showing incredible control vs Maverick, and then dominating the fight against WBC until its' track snapped. I honestly don't think it's because they wanted WBC to win. I think they were just trying to follow the rules as they were written. One of the rule changes they enforced after Gemini debuted was that, if one half of a robot was not mobile, the entire robot would be deemed immobilized. It's not a rule that I'm particularly a fan of, outside of clusterbots like Gemini, but that's what the rule was. And you can clearly see that Suicidal Tendencies's left-hand track was completely immobile during the entire last minute of the fight, well beyond the 30-second immobilization rule. It sucks that it happened to ST based on how good of a battle it had with WBC, but that was the only decision the judges could have made based on how the rules were written.
You're right in one sense, but there's a very strong reason I felt they wanted Wheely Big Cheese to win and that's because of how utterly stacked this round was in its' favour. Look at it objectively - two robots from Series 2 (Killertron and Wheelosaurus), one without a srimech (Maverick), one that had a very underwhelming performance in S3 (Prizephita), and what was supposed to be Blade's Big Bruva before it pulled out - honestly it was a hopeless heat. Suicidal Tendencies was the wild card that the producers didn't want, and they wanted it out so WBC could go through to the Series Semi Finals. Remember that they'd set it up so they would fight what they hoped would be Gemini, and so give Chaos 2 a chance for a 'vengeance' fight against one of its' rivals. Suicidal Tendencies and Tornado were both the flies in the ointment though. After Tornado beat Gemini, I bet the producers didn't want just another push-bot that had no relation to the Grand Champion, and that helped to swing the argument. Again, I can understand why this rule is there, and why that judgement was made, but it wasn't even close to properly enforced throughout the series - Mousetrap vs Sump Thing was my particular nomination for this - look how Mousetrap is limping throughout the fight, and Sump Thing immobilises itself. But Mousetrap got to go through anyway. Either Sump Thing and Wheely Big Cheese should have got the nod, or Mousetrap and Suicidal Tendencies, not any combination of the two. And lets' be honest, this rule is such bullshit it's still used today. Pulsar, anyone? Remember the first head-to-head with Ironside 3 in Series 9, the fact that the Judges UNANIMOUSLY declared Pulsar the winner after Ironside 3 backed off because they thought they'd won? The producers have favourites, and Wheely Big Cheese was one of Series 4's.
@@gregoryatkin1509 I hate to be "that guy" but Blade's Big Bruvva was going to be seeded 14th, meaning they would have been in Heat J with Bulldog Breed and Stinger. In fact, had Blade's Big Bruvva and Trident not pulled out, WBC would have been seeded 17th and therefore would have been in heat A with Chaos 2. Basically, heat H was meant to be Bigger Brother Vs Prizephita Vs Wheelosaurus and Stinger vs Killertron Vs Maverick, yet WBC would have Chaos 2 to deal with...I doubt they made this heat to favour it..

Suicidal Tendencies’ left track was blatantly immobilised, it blatantly did not put Wheely Big Cheese into the pit; the latter clumsily drove itself in, and if for whatever reason you’re unable to properly mobilise against your opponent and they’re still functional, you lose. It’s as simple as that. Wheely Big Cheese won and rightfully so, whether by a technicality or not.
No, it didn't. It seized up on one side and could no longer mobilise properly against Wheely Big Cheese. The officials didn't do that - it was just an unfortunate occurrence that happens sometimes, and you shouldn't be out of it before your opponent for any reason, whether you do more or less than them in the battle. So the judges were right to rule against Suicidal Tendencies.

Suicidal Tendencies should of won heat H. They were on top in heat H, but in the heat H final, their track was immobolized for too long and got robbed on a judges decision. Talk about controversial. If Suicidal Tendencies hadn’t immobilized their track, they would clinch a place in Semifinal A, not Wheely Big Cheese.

That is NOT a winner. They didn’t deserve the win, end of. Rigged, whether you like it or not. And I’m a fan of WBC, but even I can see it clearly

If you look closely WBC jammed Suicidal Tendencies track at one stage meaning there was no overall control as it was moving on one side.
But they had control enough to turn at the perfect times to make WBC go in the pit. It was in control and using that control to win.

Look at it objectively - two robots from Series 2 (Killertron and Wheelosaurus), one without a srimech (Maverick), one that had a very underwhelming performance in S3 (Prizephita), and what was supposed to be Blade's Big Bruva before it pulled out - honestly it was a hopeless heat. Suicidal Tendencies was the wild card that the producers didn't want, and they wanted it out so WBC could go through to the Series Semi Finals. Remember that they'd set it up so they would fight what they hoped would be Gemini, and so give Chaos 2 a chance for a 'vengeance' fight against one of its' rivals. Suicidal Tendencies and Tornado were both the flies in the ointment though. After Tornado beat Gemini, I bet the producers didn't want just another push-bot that had no relation to the Grand Champion, and that helped to swing the argument.
Again, I can understand why this rule is there, and why that judgement was made, but it wasn't even close to properly enforced throughout the series - Mousetrap vs Sump Thing was my particular nomination for this - look how Mousetrap is limping throughout the fight, and Sump Thing immobilises itself. But Mousetrap got to go through anyway. Either Sump Thing and Wheely Big Cheese should have got the nod, or Mousetrap and Suicidal Tendencies, not any combination of the two.
And lets' be honest, this rule is such bullshit it's still used today. Pulsar, anyone? Remember the first head-to-head with Ironside 3 in Series 9, the fact that the Judges UNANIMOUSLY declared Pulsar the winner after Ironside 3 backed off because they thought they'd won? The producers have favourites, and Wheely Big Cheese was one of Series 4's.
@@gregoryatkin1509 I hate to be "that guy" but Blade's Big Bruvva was going to be seeded 14th, meaning they would have been in Heat J with Bulldog Breed and Stinger. In fact, had Blade's Big Bruvva and Trident not pulled out, WBC would have been seeded 17th and therefore would have been in heat A with Chaos 2. Basically, heat H was meant to be Bigger Brother Vs Prizephita Vs Wheelosaurus and Stinger vs Killertron Vs Maverick, yet WBC would have Chaos 2 to deal with...I doubt they made this heat to favour it..
I think the rather sudden unveiling of this rule after the same thing happened in Series 3 with no issue.

Suicidal Tendencies’ left track was blatantly immobilised, it blatantly did not put Wheely Big Cheese into the pit; the latter clumsily drove itself in, and if for whatever reason you’re unable to properly mobilise against your opponent and they’re still functional, you lose. It’s as simple as that. Wheely Big Cheese won and rightfully so, whether by a technicality or not.
Suicidal Tendancies really got screwed over
No, it didn't. It seized up on one side and could no longer mobilise properly against Wheely Big Cheese. The officials didn't do that - it was just an unfortunate occurrence that happens sometimes, and you shouldn't be out of it before your opponent for any reason, whether you do more or less than them in the battle. So the judges were right to rule against Suicidal Tendencies.

Suicidal Tendencies was dead on one side, couldn't mobilise properly far before Wheely Big Cheese DROVE ITSELF into the pit (Suicidal Tendencies didn't pit it), thus Suicidal Tendencies lost rightfully. Also, Prizephita was immobilised completely before Wheely Big Cheese went in the pit in Round 1. There's no inconsitency at all - you're just not looking and listening properly.
Suicidal Tendencies should of won heat H. They were on top in heat H, but in the heat H final, their track was immobolized for too long and got robbed on a judges decision. Talk about controversial. If Suicidal Tendencies hadn’t immobilized their track, they would clinch a place in Semifinal A, not Wheely Big Cheese.
Suicidal Tendencies had the same problem they had in Series 3 against Raizor Blade a seized gearbox which caused the track to stop working

The more I watch classic robot wars, the more it becomes clear that the producers rigged this show to send through the robots they preferred. Wheely big cheese should have never have progressed, I can understand why the suicidal tendencies team would be annoyed

@@darudesandstrom1067 You'd have to be more specific than that. Besides, if you can look that deep, you'll see that Robot Wars wasn't about that. There were terrible judges' decisions here and there, but most official calls were fair, and this was one of them.
@@ryanodonovan9497 have you ever watched robot wars before? Partial immobilisation happened all the time, and tbf in this instance Suicidal tendencies still controlled the fight and wheely big cheese drive itself into the pit. Not just that WBC had their own driving problems in this very fight.
WBC did nothing during the fight, and even when ST had their driving problems they ended up driving into the pit. That is NOT a winner. They didn’t deserve the win, end of. Rigged, whether you like it or not. And I’m a fan of WBC, but even I can see it clearly

It doesn't matter if you do all the work and your opponent does nothing - if you break down for whatever reason before your opponent is out of it (which is what happened to Suicidal Tendencies) you lose, and it's as simple as that. So no, there was no rigging here, and you haven't proved otherwise. You're just in denial. And yes, I have watched Robot Wars all the way through, so don't try that crap with me.
