It's a shame this was really the only time Wheely Big Cheese worked. The flipper was powerful but it always seemed to self-destruct after one big flip.
Ah the legendary Heat H. I swear ever heat so far has had at least 4 legendary robots in it. I always thought Wheely Big Cheese was the flipper concept taken to the absolute extreme. Ridiculously long so it's extremely difficult to get under someone, all made out of Titanium so the welds are weak as hell, but IF it get under you, you're going into orbit. This bout proves that. Wolverine was a pretty impressive looking machine, easily could have been heat final material in some other heats, but if you let WBC get a flip in its more than likely all over, and it certainly was here. Axe Awe vs Granny's revenge. I know that Sgt Bash is inextricably linked to Diotoir, but this fight here was just as great IMHO. Never before in RW had we seen a bot THAT on fire, and then the Refbot getting dragged down into the pit with the smouldering granny was just the icing on the cake. From this point on, Robochicken actually becomes a pretty decent bot. Another one which could have reached the heat final in some other heats. However against the well driven (That said, they seemed to be having some issues here due to the front-mounted wheels here) controlbot that is Cruchtacean (Which is on top form at this point, it didn't have much of a hope. Robochicken getting its eye crushed by Killalot was great. Behemoth yet again proves its prowess as a spinner killer, although it has to be said they had quite a bit of help from Matilda here. You could clearly hear after that first impact from Supernova that it's disc was catching on something inside the robot, and the Behemoth team did too good of a job keeping their tanky scoop pointed towards Supernova for it to really do any damage. Poor driving for Supernova to go into Matilda's CPZ like that, and this wasn't even the first time we've seen how powerful that new rear flywheel is (Obsidian and Firestorm learned the hard way) so they really should have been more careful. From that point on the match was over really. Great use of the new axe from behemoth too, don't know why they got rid of it really, it was very useful (This match, and their Extreme 1 fight against Stinger being the best examples) And now the match that will live in infamy. The Somerset derby. It really was a fucking SPECTACULAR flip from Wheely Big Cheese. I'm normally not a fan of 1 hit knockouts, but I'll make an exception for this one. A Robot Wars moment that will go down in history. That said, the sheer height and distance of that flip really do make you wonder if the rumours of WBC running illegally high pressures, or running Nitrogen instead of CO2, were true. Never has RW seen anything like that before, even from modern flippers. This one was another great fight, and a real upheval given how Behemoth was being billed as 'Invincible' at this point (Which given it's magnificent performance in Extreme 1, is fair enough IMHO). Behemoth REALLY mis-timed that flip which put them on their back there. In fact, I'd say that was the point where the match was decided really. Crushtacean's grab onto Behemoth's srimech arms was great, and then they skillfully guided Behemoth into the pit. I know Behemoth is constantly a victim of bad luck, but you can't really blame that one on luck. A poorly timed flip from Behemoth, and great, aggressive driving from Crushtacean were what beat them here. Honestly I'd completely forgotten this Heat final fight. The cheesegrater attached to Crushtacean's claws was a great touch, though you have to wonder why on earth they had a cheese grater with them in the pits anyway :D Wheely Big Cheese could quite easily have become the first bot to flip Dead metal at 39:06. If the wedge had been slightly futher under it would almost certainly have gone over. A couple of great flips from WBC and then Crushtacean seemed to conk out sadly. That aerial flying off was unbelievably unlucky. A slightly underwhelming end to an otherwise INCREDIBLE heat.
If you're looking for modern flips to compete, I'd actually take a look at some Bronco clips in the current season of Battlebots. It doesn't get the same distance, since it's built to launch more 'up' than 'out', but the height is equal, or maybe even a bit higher.
I think a large part of the power of WBC is largely in just the sheer length of the flipper. The flip is a little bit slower than that of robots like Chaos 2 or Bigger Brother, but it both gets under the ENTIRE robot, and stays in contact with the robot for much longer, which makes it much better at launching robots rather than simply flipping them over. In other robots most of the energy goes into simply rolling the robot because the flipper is only partly underneath, so there's less upward momentum.
This is why robot wars is just absolute stardom. Pure entertainment from the granny's revenge. Thee is no such thing as a childish show. Adults love this just as much we do. This is why we love Robot wars it's an entertaining program which always makes me smile
Supernova has always seemed fairly ill-fated to me. It's a great, aggressive and hugely destructive robot, but plagued with reliability issues. and a lack of control after it impacts other robots.
@@lafeelabriel they sort of did, but I think they were just trying to get away because they were pushed over to the cpz by Behemoth after they got stuck on the floor, so I don't know if that's actually reliability... seems more like just bad luck
Thanks for uploading these, use to watch it with my grandparents when I was little absolutely loved the series now they're gone rewatching these episodes brings back so many great memories

Wheely Big Cheese has an awesome flip, one of the neatest OOTAs I've seen, Wolverine should have packed a parachute. Grannys Revenge - definitely a joke bot. Though Axe Awe didn't seem to know what to do with it. Granny eventually got pitted by the Refbot, who in turn got pitted by Axe Awe. All very entertaining. Crushtacean looks weird,and certainly original. Robochicken looks like another joke bot. But a surprisingly good tussle, I think won by Crushtacean. Crushtacean, like Wheely Big Cheese, and Supernova, is a truly invertible bot - there aren't that many. Tornado, Carbide, Pussycat, King B, and I guess Stinger, Nuts and Gabriel - not many others. Behemoth vs Supernova - pity about this seeding, it means two of the best 3 bots in this round face each other so we're going to lose one of them in the first heat. (The third one being WBC of course). Excellent battle, won on control by Behemoth, though Supernova's flywheel is impressive. But what was with bloody Matilda attacking Behemoth after Supernova had been pitted? Wheely Big Cheese's flip on Axe-Awe was extraordinary, putting its flip on Wolverine completely in the shade. Possibly the quickest win and the quickest OOTA so far, and almost certainly the most spectacular. Even the Axe-Awe team were laughing and clapping. It's moments like these that make it worth while enduring the nonsense. Behemoth vs Crushtacean - excellent control by the crab to put Behemoth - which usually wins on control - into the pit. So now its Wheely Big Cheese vs Crushtacean - and I wouldn't be taking bets on the outcome. I *think* I'd back WBC - but not by much. It would be really great to see WBC do a hat trick of OOTA's, but Crushtacean is a very awkward shape to get under, it's probably roll off sideways. But then I like Crushtacean for its originality. Well, not an OOTA, but Crushtacean lost its aerial and WBC pitted it - next best thing. WBC was a worthy winner. This heat was noteworthy for the number of OOTAs and pittings - a far more satisfying result than judges' decisions or immobilisations, not least because it spares us the tedious and stupid spectacle of the house thugs damaging defeated bots. This is possibly the best heat of any Robot Wars series so far. I would have liked to see WBC, Behemoth, Crushtacean *and* Supernova go through to the final - all of them are far better bots than some of the winners of other heats.
Behemoth is so unpredictable. Stands up to powerful robots like supernova, loses to nothing concept robots like crushtacean. ok it was probably carrying damage from the supernova fight but still, going out to crushtacean when wbc, impressive as it was,was there for the taking. Awkward
Don't know what happened with Phillipa, but to me it looks like she didn't enjoy her job as much as she used to. I really liked her in the previous seasons..
Granny's Revenge has to be the most ridiculous robot ever designed in the history of the show - and yes, that includes PsychoSprout from Series 1 (but I'm inclined to give the Series 1 machines a pass because nobody quite knew what robot combat would look like)
Granny’s Revenge has to be the most legendary trashbot of all time. Whichever member of the robot wars staff that picked Bash as one of the two house robots for that fight was inspired

A lot of the Hypno-Disc cl;ones tend to run on 2 wheels while Hypno ran on 4, those extra 2 wheels really helped with the control.
