No other nation makes music like India ... production and editing or not, when there there is more than this to it, then it touches your heart like in this fragment...
Rain usually represents sadness in Western culture but in this film, it represents hope and progress for a simple village. Best movie for every Filipino such as I, to watch.
Western culture generally developed in cold lands, where rains only mean more cold. India is a warm country. And during summertime, especially in villages where most people are farmers, rains mean irrigation for their crops. To the general public, it means a relief from the scorching burn of the summer heat. It is why Indians consider rains to be the domain of Varuna, an important god who is also associated with justice and judgement in the afterlife alongside Yama.
In India Rain is equivalent to Spring. Rain for us brings greenery, pleasent weather, water, fertile lands, crops, and a relief from scortching heat. So yeah, rain is pure joy for Indians. Unlike Middle eastern countries or other Tropical countries, India actually has a whole season of rainfall called the Monsoon season. It lasts for about 3 months, bringing the average temperature down from 40°C to 24°C, which is soon followed by winter. So Rain is the best weather for Indians. There are millions of Indian songs dedicated to rains.
India is diverse in that case too.. here in some places rain brings joy while in some places misery. Some places receive plenty of rain while some are scarce.
Mawsynram, the wettest place(receiving 476 inches of rain per year.) on Earth is in the Eastern India, on the other hand at the West, we are having the Thar dessert( 4-20 inches rain per year.) India is really diverse. Moreover, Indian people find joy from very small and simple things. We do celebrate seasons here.
@@devikaravigopinath5246 thank you for sharing this... It is important to know. I heard about monsoon, but never thought that there are really rainy places in India...

The characterization is so good. You could the farmer's happiness, so when the clouds drifted away, you feel so let down. The chieftain joining in when the oldest man in the village stood to sing, the sweeping continuous shot at 2:59, the two guys joking attacking each other behind the protagonist in 0:30...the whole song a gem embedded within a masterpiece. A worthy Oscar nominee.
+Diane Winchester Thank you for saying that (Oscar). The 8 Oscars that Slumdog Millionaire got - just because it was made by a white man Danny Boyle - are essentially shoddy and delayed compensation to Bollywood for movies like Lagaan and Rang De Basanti. If you haven't, please see RDB. It's known to be emotionally transforming - google "RDB Effect". IMO, Lagaan deserved an Oscar in the foreign films category.
+Leanne Sanchez It shouldnt be a surprise to you that Oscar was established to promote Hollywood. In Slumdog, the songs were an appropriation if bollywood. There was the western aesthetics in them but the indian soul was missing. They imparted nothing more than people dancing and having a good time. No message, no longing, no surreality, nothing. This is just an example of why Indian movies no matter how good, they will never get recognition from west. And we indians are actually okay with that. But then comes along a slumdog and shoves it on our face our own art in a western veil and are we supposed to believe it is better than all our movies ever made?

Im From Pakistan. Its May 2019 And Still This Song Is Alive..Pure Perfection Of Raag "Miyaa K Malhaar"...I Used To Listen This Composition When It Rains And Believe Me Its Start Brings Goosebumps😊
Such a brilliant song by A.R.Rahman, definitely a difficult and complex composition. With a list of top-class singers at his side, this song is one of the greatest compositions by A.R.Rahman.
Shankar Mahadevan had sung this song in one live concert. When he started improvising sargam and taans, it started raining in the middle of a scorching summer. Shankar Mahadevan sir himself and his accompanying musicians are all witnesses to the incident, not to mention his audience.
The astonishing sequence of continuous shots makes this song special. I still wonder how hard it will be to sync all the crew in a single scene(especially how the heroine managed to catch the dandiya stick at 2:03), hats off to the director. A perfect blend of music with visuals!!!
As per information revealed even a bigger masterpiece because hard to believe no one other than 3-4 actors actually know dancing and group dancing is even more difficult task
Who else gets goosebumps at the opening 'ghanana ghanana' sound? I definitely do! Its one of the best conceptualized songs ever in bollywood. It came out when I was 10 and even after so many years, its has the freshness intact. Only Rehman Sir has the power to make this happen. :-)
I am so proud to be from the Indian subcontinent! I cannot even express how this song makes me feel. makes the realise who I am, my roots. India and Pakistan used to be one country, remember? My father is from Hyderabad India and my mother from Karachi Pakistan... IT IS THE BRITISH WHO DIVIDED US!
I think it was the insecurity felt by Pakistani muslims. And Britishers used this. Otherwise sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ji have convinced few hundred provinces which he did with 500+ provinces.
We were different that's why we are divided today(saw what happened with Pakistan and Bangladesh) if we were together today it would be Chaos everywhere
Now british have left , every Indian is free to leave his caste system and keep his surname as “bhartiya” just like JNU students and prove their love for country ..no one has stopped them … fact is that Indians love more their caste and religious identity much more than their love for country …
The music instrument and vocal just harmoniously move circle in my ear... Despite the magnificent comp by AR. Rahman we often forgot to praised the one who arrange and mixing the music..its such a rare stereo quality from Indian Movie OST. Try to hear it with a respectable headphone, and experience eargasmic magnify by 100x.
Rahman does the sound mixing himself. Also, did u know Rahman let Shankar Mahadevan compose his bits in the song. Shankar also helped with other parts of the songs. Rahman said it was his idea to add the electric drum you can faintly hear in the background.
man jowman how is rang de bsnti and legend of bhaghat Singh. Shankar was not there .how is dil se, taal and roja. Shankar was not in this too . Jodha akbar
Happiness of a farmer village when they see rain clouds after Waiting for rain for years. I dont know how many peole will understand this feeling 60% of people in india are farmers
I fell in love with Bollywood thanks to Lagaan. I remember watching this song on B4U when I was 17 years old while recording it to my VCR to watch over and over again. Sweet old memories. Love from Tunisia!
Sukhvinder Singh, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan,Udit Narayan,Alka Yagnik ...so many singers sang the song but every voice can be recognised easily... That's the greatness of these singers.
Curious to know who sings the starting ghanan ghanan lines before the starting of song and who does the ending with ghanan ghanan do you have any idea about it?

Gracy Singh is a perfect example of choice after merit skills, she was extremely confident. Also, I remember watching this in the theatre, no one knew what the movie was about then, and when the clouds move away at the end of this song and the children run behind them, audiences gasped in the theatre. it was heavy emotion.
I am from tamilnadu. Was studied in sharadha vidyalaya school salem. Every annual sports day only one song they allowed for dancing. It was organised by our hindi teacher( she is the only one hindi teacher). She choosed this song for annual sports day( 2002) . We don't know the meaning, actors, etc. Now really I am happy and excited for watching this song.
Best director: Ashutosh Gowarikar Best music director: AR Rahman Best singers : Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik Best lyricist: Javed Akhtar Best Actor: Aamir Khan Lagaan is indeed a Masterpiece ❤️❤️
Not only Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, but, along with them, Sukhwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan and Shantanu Mukhopadhyay had also lent their voices in this song.
I LOVE how Amir joins her at 1:53. The way they dance is so beautiful. This thing is so real and such masterpiece... Can watch this all my life. It just makes me so happy. ❤
Although all the singers are great but I am here just for my all time favourite The great Udit Narayan Ji. In this movie all the songs are his. ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥. My favourite moment is 2:55. The long stretched voice of Udit ji gets me everytime. 🙏🙏🙏.

The song is so beautiful & passionate in its lyrics and tonality. Rahman mixed the earthiness of rural folk culture with the aesthetic sophistication of Raga Malhar of classical music. Ashutosh Gowarikar is truly the best director in Hindi film industry to create a masterpiece like Lagaan- which is sentimental, energetic, deeply committed to the civilisational ethos of India’s unity. The film encapsulates as one would say “maati ki sugandh”. FABULOUS, FABULOUS and FABULOUS!!!
Udit Narayan, Shaan, Shankar, Sukhwinder Singh and lovely Alka Yagnik.. man this has to be one of the greatest collaboration of singers. Often times we credit only AR Rahman for the songs but it's the singers who justify his music composition.

Got a news that my grandmother was seriously ill. She passed away on march 10. Just after 3 days, on March 13 there was rain. This song reminds me of my grandmother.

It's Malhaar raag from vedas

Such a brilliant song by A.R.Rahman, definitely a difficult and complex composition. With a list of top-class singers at his side, this song is one of the greatest compositions by A.R.Rahman.
Bhai jis raag main ye Hai wo raag buhat mushkil Hai raag pilu
Shankar Mahadevan had sung this song in one live concert. When he started improvising sargam and taans, it started raining in the middle of a scorching summer. Shankar Mahadevan sir himself and his accompanying musicians are all witnesses to the incident, not to mention his audience.
The Oscar of music category would have definitely cried for this music on the year of composition.
National Award winning Song For Choreography ❤️
ദൂരദർശനിൽ കണ്ട സിനിമ ഒരിക്കലും മറക്കില്ല ഈ പാട്ടും ♥️♥️
എന്തൊരു പാട്ടാണ്.. Repeat Mode On 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The astonishing sequence of continuous shots makes this song special. I still wonder how hard it will be to sync all the crew in a single scene(especially how the heroine managed to catch the dandiya stick at 2:03), hats off to the director. A perfect blend of music with visuals!!!
Still have goosebumps when i see this. What a Picturization.. What a choreography... Flawless job. A masterpiece

For me many parts , but m getting goosebumps especially on "dhamak dhamak gunje badra ke danke" and "jala de Jo tan man who dhoop dhali"
Yes :)
I think it was the insecurity felt by Pakistani muslims. And Britishers used this. Otherwise sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ji have convinced few hundred provinces which he did with 500+ provinces.
Actually Jinnah wanted a separate country for Muslims so he's also to be blamed

The cinematography of Lagaan is really mind blowing. It is meant to be viewed on grand screens, the screenplay is ridiculously good.
