I am from the USA and about 10 years ago I decided to start watching some of the classic movies and foreign movies. Sunday nights I would watch a different foreign or classic movie. I watched Lagaan and it is definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. Its one of those movies that I will watch over and over again!

+Lafa Lol Jist watch ""Kahani"", its got great content with no sings in between and exceptional script and awesome climax like last part of harry potter.
Good movies are watched many times ( I have seen "A few good men" many times). THe fun of Indian movies are its songs and dances and emotionalism relating to Indian Character. I strongly recommend you watch "Madhumati", "Amrapali". But get to know the outline story before watching them. There are many other movies also but Madhumati ( in Black & White) of 1956? maybe is the best that I have seen.

I watched this movie for a world cultures project when I was in high school. I grew up in small town USA, this project was very important for me, I ended up making it more of my life's work. Became obsessed with Bollywood and with learning about cultures from around the world, especially cultures and traditions among the people of India.

This has been preached by every saint and priest that if you have the courage and guts to do good things, then even the sky and earth would go out of their way to support you.
Now this is what we called a song, a song that helps movie to enhance its narrative instead of just interrupting it. If you look at movies nowdays, they are adding songs just for the sake of song. You can verify it if you delete the songs from the movie the story will not be affected. But how does this song enhanced the narrative? The main point of the song was to convince about something, the power of lyrics did it as at the end he became convinced. Not only that the man who was weeping at the beginning was laughing at the end indicating that he has also become hopeful about the situation. Now this is a just an observation from someone who knows nothing about movies at all. There will be many easter eggs hidden in this song let's find them.

Here in the UK, they showed a series of Bollywood's movies on Channel 4 around 2005. I decided to sit down and watch Lagaan although I knew nothing about the story, stars or music. I absolutely loved it. Mitwa has to be the best song

It's similar to me but I'm from the USA. Anyone going down this path should be very wary. While this is a great song and has a coveted spot on my player, India is plumb full of amazing songs. Radha Kaise Na Jale from this movie is another, especially if you watch the dancing.
With Latta Ji, Asha Ji, Shreya Ji, A. R. Rahman, Ilayaraja, 6000 languages, and many others there are so many 'best song ever's in India, there is not enough time in one life to hear them all.
Makes me suppose that if there is a heaven, it's got Indian music always playing in the background.
And we should not forget Pakistan, some of the great Indian songs are from Pakistan. My personal favorite is 'Agar Tum Mil Jao'.

This was and still is my favourite Indian song. 20 years later I actually went to find the translation of the lyrics and I couldn't help but break down crying. I remember one day listening to this song over and over with my aunt, she passed away not too long after. She always had a different aura to her and I miss her dearly. Even though I don't understand the language, I know she did. So reading the translation for the first time I understood why she loved this song so much and it really uplifted me while I was in a very dark space. I now tear up every time I listen to this masterpiece.

This song really does make village's look beautiful and the togetherness they have within them, wish I can go and visit my own village. The 90s and the 2000s UK felt good as every neighbours knew each other like this video but the modern UK doesn't have the same feeling for sure.

A.R Rehman is awesome really a great composer very soulful
The Ghatam in the background blends in so well with the Sarangi. Unifying South and North Indian classical instruments. Magic of Rahman 🙂.

I don't have praising words to Express for this amazing movie.
Even though this film is according to 1893 but I have seen same situation & culture in my village in 1988-89.
I salute all of you A.R. RAHMAN, Javed Akhtar sahab, Udit narayan sahab, Aamir Khan & Gowarikar Sahab..
You can see the range of A R Rahman in this movie, this movie needed typical indian songs with typical village culture and u can see that every song has that cultural touch whether it is mitwa or ghanan ghanan or o palanhare .You can see the music itself reflects the indian values, and ofcourse outstanding lyrics by Javed Akhtar. From Lagaan to Rockstar , You can see how the music changed within a decade. For me Rockstar is the greatest album of 21st century. In 2011 world was not ready for such a advance level of masterpiece like rockstar. Bollywood got the best possible start in terms of music in last decade...but they ruined everything by remaking their own songs again and again.
