That was a brilliant, simple and concise comparison.. I've watched a bunch of video's on this subject and yours is the only one that shows the real difference. 4K upgrade time. Keep up the good work!
My real concern is I've used some of these charts that show seating distance versus screen size and at the distance I will be viewing it at it states I won't be able to see the difference between 4k and 1080p. So it almost seems like a waste of money in my situation.
Thanks for the comparison video i have the optoma 131xe 1080p projector which i am well happy with but hoping to take the plunge to a 4k projector sometime . I was thinking about the viewsonic PX727 so i will be waiting for your thoughts on this if you get your hands on one. Keep them videos coming and thanks again.
At the moment ( 2024) i would skip both and go for a LASER projector, lumens and contrast is way more important than the difference between 1080 versus 4k, and MOST importent for a home projector is power consumption, lack of heat, and the LAMPLIFE, witch is around 30.000 hours on a laser projector
On Amazon UK the Optoma HD143X is currently £335.99 and the Viewsonic PX747-4K £809 So hardly a good comparison. If that's the cheapest 4K on the market then it would be better to compare it to a much more expensive 1080p and looking at the prices over the last year the Optima has always been around half the cost (and now less). For me this video is steering me towards the Optima so a big thumbs up for that!
@@NinjaSushi2 My projector was $250 and doesn't look as bad as his image. Don't know what's up with his projector but those images were so bad they made me want to cry.
Idk if it applies to projectors or not, but when it comes to 4k panels it depends on the original resolution of the content. For example if you have a movie that was recorded in 4k and compressed to be viewed in 1080p it would actualy look better on a 4k display than on a 1080p display.
This is what I thought. The colour rendition on the Optoma was horrible. This is far more important to me than resolution tbh and so few reviews address this aspect and I wish reviewers would try and get the colour output as comparable as possible when doing side by sides. In some frames it may have been the higher contrast that meant when the picture is filmed the highlights are blown but it also appeared that the colour rendition looked really bad on the Optoma.

Did you use the 4k pixel shifting resolution in your comparison with the PX 747? The HD 143X can pop out a 4k resolution with pixel shift and upscaling. Which gives 8.3 mil pixels compared to 4k at 8.8 mil pixels. I wouldn't make a decision based upon this comparison unless he used the 4k resolution capabilities of the HD 143X.

Great review. If you can, please include image enhancement projectors such as the Epson 2150 or 3700, it would be interesting to see how they compare to true 4K projectors. Thank you.
This video is Garbage and was Garbage when it was made. The Optoma Projector he uses is a budget 1080p Projector that cost $500.00 then. Optoma had many other 1080p Projectors at that time that were vastly better. The ViewSonic 4K Projector is pure Garbage 🗑. It only has a 1,200 contrast ratio vs 23,000 for the Optoma Projector. With TVs as well as Projectors you can buy a low end 4K TV which is Garbage. Today it is hard to find a 1080p TV but 4 years ago when this video was made you certainly could buy a 1080p TV that had better picture Quality than many 4K TVs. 80% of what you watch on TV is only 1080p or less. A lot of what is available on TV is only 480p still. So the answer to the question is a Good 1080p Projector is better than a budget 4K Projector.
Looks great but unfortunately I have little faith in viewsonic. I had one of their entry range mini projector because everyone was raging about it. It was crap. The image went blurry all the time I had the manually tweak the roller thingy to adjust. It was super noisy as well and out of the blue it just stopped working. When I tried to turn it on it was on a loop of turning itself on and off and never getting to the menu. The controller that came with was the worst quality ever. The buttons were super hard to press. I wasn't umpressed with the UI either. I could never pair my phone to it even though it was supposed to and the apps available were so limited it was completely useless. I gave up on it and now I'm looking for a better projector and I plan on investing a bit more but I'm scared of getting shit hardware and software quality again.
Unless you have something putting out 4k what's the point but even then do not buy the 4k. If you really know projectors you will know Optima bulbs are very very cheap £80 to £100 all other brands are around £300 I would always go with Optima they are great
Well I opted for 2 Optoma 720p projectors this summer (current model) at 3600 lumens and unless it is a sunny day it is pretty much like a big LCD in the day time on a dark grey projector screen. Optoma image quality combined with enormous 120" projected images for me are more critical than a "4K" sticker on anything else at the same sort of price (375 quid).
I have an Epson 3100 on a 106" screen, which I have been quite happy with. As the content I watch is either 720p (sports) or 1080p (Netflix etc.), is there any benefit for me at 4k at the moment? Do the scalers on these budget minded 4k projectors do a good enough job to make displaying 720/1080 content better?
The 1080p Image looks a lot washed out as compared to my cheap native 1080p wzatco projector even in a well lit room, looks to be somethign is very wrong with the image
Most sources are still 2k or 1080P. Like many have said here...while true 4K is stunning, most movies are still shot in 2k then upscaled to 4k to sell more discs.
I can see the difference on my 5 inch phone but, technically, we cannot easily differentiate a 720p and 1080p on a mobile device; let alone 4K. That just means something is wrong with the optoma.
Thanks for the video as always, can i ask about the comparison testing? Was the youtube video playback still set to 4K when playing through the 1080p projector?
@@allthingstech Thanks for confirming, i presume it is youtube content from Jacob + Katie Schwarz? It would be interesting to see the "stats for nerds" as the difference is certainly very noticeable! i didnt think the Apple TV 4K supported youtube 4k because of the format but perhaps thats changed recently. I currently have a benq w2000 (1080p) projector and use it with an nvidia shield, i can select 4k playback in youtube which although i cant actually get the 4k native image from the projector the difference in quality is considerably sharper than 1080 playback (i guess its similar to supersampling or something?) Im tempted to move up to a 4k projector, if the jump in quality is as good as you comparisons id be very pleased which is why i am questioning the setup :)
The 143x looks better and the 4k projector is not a true 4k it's just 1080 streched out with added fake pixels to make 4k do technically just 1080 with hdr not worth the money
You got an overrated low Quality used Projector. For that price you can buy a much better 1080p Projector. You got a very low Quality pixel shifting Projector that has horrible colors, bad black levels. Good 1080p Projectors are much better than bottom line 4K Projectors. Buying Refurbished is never a steal. You can buy that same Projector New for $1000.00. I have seen it on sale New for around $800.00 even less. You got a Projector that could have been used for several years before they traded it in on another Projector. ViewSonic and Amazon will take a used Projector for $100.00 off their New Projector. They make a huge Profit doing that.
I just purchased it, but any idea why my HDMI input isn't working correctly? I keep seeing the error message,"No Source Found." After connecting the firestick.
@@DelusionalDev64 Please buy the 1080p! It is so worth it! I can finally watch tv during the day with a high-quality projector. They don't pay me a dime to say these things.
My only problem with the Viewsonic PX747-4k, is that for around the same price, you can buy the Epson EH-TW7100 (3800 in USA), which just poops all over the PX747-4K in every department.
Seriously. How do you compare $500 projector to $1,000 projector? You just confused all these people and pretty much convinced them to buy the more expensive projector AND use your link so you get a kickback. That's pretty fucked up and sneaky of y'all.
You should tell people you're an Amazon associate instead of hiding it in the description. That's seriously fucking sneaky of you and you need to disclose this ahead of time.
Don't know how but I'm getting like almost the same detail on my 720p cheap chinese PJ. In no way does it look like the optoma 1080p, that is just horrible. Just really a little less detail than the viewsonic. I think there must be something wrong with your setup or the PJ..that shouldn't be possible. I'm using 120" screen and played the exact same video you are playing (costa rica in 4k).
😂😂😂 Is View Sonic paying you 🫣🤬 The Optoma Projector looks much better. The ViewSonic has absolutely horrible Contrast and Colors. 1,200 vs 23,000 on the Optoma this is NOT even close. The Optoma gives you a much better picture. The 4K might show better detail but it is Not that much better like you claim. Do a blind test and People will choose the Optoma over the ViewSonic because of the much much better Brighter Colors, Superior Black levels, incredibly Better Contrast. The nearly 23 times better Contrast greatly improves the entire picture.

A fairer comparison is a full HD movie playing as there's not that many 4k movies
Thanks for the video as always, can i ask about the comparison testing?
Was the youtube video playback still set to 4K when playing through the 1080p projector?
Andy Donaldson I used Apple TV 4K for both, it optimists dependent on connection
I currently have a benq w2000 (1080p) projector and use it with an nvidia shield, i can select 4k playback in youtube which although i cant actually get the 4k native image from the projector the difference in quality is considerably sharper than 1080 playback (i guess its similar to supersampling or something?)
Im tempted to move up to a 4k projector, if the jump in quality is as good as you comparisons id be very pleased which is why i am questioning the setup :)
Фоточки в конце из Санкт-Петербурга! Исакиевский собор! Красиво!
The 143x looks better and the 4k projector is not a true 4k it's just 1080 streched out with added fake pixels to make 4k do technically just 1080 with hdr not worth the money
fake pixels???? muhahahahahahaha
I got a PX701-4K refurbished off ViewSonic for 675$ definitely a steal.
@@JesusSavesSinners lol i have a JVC now
@@Jupiters1337 I hope you like it. 👍
I just purchased it, but any idea why my HDMI input isn't working correctly? I keep seeing the error message,"No Source Found." After connecting the firestick.
@Rique Hahaha it works fine now.
The projector is great!
Which one did u get?
@@DelusionalDev64 Please buy the 1080p! It is so worth it! I can finally watch tv during the day with a high-quality projector. They don't pay me a dime to say these things.
I'd rather pick the 4K version.
It cost twice as much as a 1080p
your money-- XD
Yes, sharper image but the rainbow effect kills it
My only problem with the Viewsonic PX747-4k, is that for around the same price, you can buy the Epson EH-TW7100 (3800 in USA), which just poops all over the PX747-4K in every department.
Great job
Sold!
I think the cinema feeling does not come with high resolution.
You should have done between two in the same price range
It's the cheapest 4k available according to the narrator
Wrong...Try match a BenQ HT2050A against the Viewsonic instead of a low end 1080P
Terrible intro music otherwise not the best review but informative.
thanks, soz about the music!
Epson 2100 gang
Well this was an expensive video to watch..
I'm using 120" screen and played the exact same video you are playing (costa rica in 4k).
on a 120 inch screen 720p is only a pathetic 12 pixels per square inch. No way on earth it looks the same as 37 pixels per square inch. Impossible
Both are not Budget projectors. A Budget projector must come withn 250$.
um no unless you want some trash 480p projector
On my iPhone they look the same
How is $400-$900 plus budget projectors?

OMG :)))
1st!
3d is not worth mentioning. It is crap and always has been.
😂😂😂 Is View Sonic paying you 🫣🤬
The Optoma Projector looks much better.
