  • A quick sped up video of me taking the intake manifold and other components to get to the injector rail. This injector failed while using E85. Is it safe to say E85 is the culprit? Not exactly. We've seen these failed on stock cars and tuned cars but, the issue becomes more frequent when running ethanol. Even running an extra in-line fuel filter we're still seeing these issues across the platofrm. Shoutout to Austin INFINITI for overnight shipping the injector. Enjoy...

      Enthusiast POV hello I have a q50 red sport when 4/5 hours go by without starting the engine the low fuel pressure is hard to turn on but if I turn on and off the switch 2 or 3 times before starting the engine, then it turns on perfect and change fuel regulator and pump and nothing

    Bro I can’t thank you enough for all the amazing informational content you have posted and shared with VQ\VR community!! Legit its been amazing watching you on your journey during this build, I know this issue sucks but this is only a small obstacle in the road to building your dream car. Dreams are driven fam, Because of all your hard work it inspired me to purchase an 2019 Q50 i-line REDSPORT after my G37 was in a car accident an written off this year and I plan on following your footsteps in building my dream car. Keep your head up fam, the obstacle is always the way, I look forward to seeing your new HP spec once those Nostrum Injectors are installed.

      Thanks man. I think for the price they will be, on stock turbos it’s not a good investment to upgrade injectors. But I did save quite a bit doing this lol

    thank you for venturing into this level of disassembly on your own , i need to buy a cheap honda or something and tear it apart so i can start doing some level of work like this myself lol.. i plan on getting a q60 redsport in about 14 months but it willl be under warranty so dealership fixes although i will do bolt ons :) but your braveness is appreciated for this platform.

    My 2016 Q50 I just bought I think has the same problem. It's in the shop now. After seeing what it takes to get to the injectors, I'm understanding why its taking so long to get it back. Thanks for showing us what's involved.

      So got the Q back. They replaced all of bank 2's injectors and the fuel rail. I'm back on the road🙂

    I had the same injector on the same cylinder fail and never put in e-85. Feel your pain, at least mine was covered under warranty

    i was going to run E85 in my Q50 my tuner didn't recommend it right now as he has seen this problem over and over again with the injectors failing on E85.. I'm going to run 100 octane for now until new injectors are on the Market to hopefully take care of this issue

    The next step for my q50 is e85 but the ams injectors are very expensive and I saw a video with someone using deatschwerks Ford F-150 injectors that flow 1700cc do you think that would be reliable or safe?

    Curious on what cc injectors are the stock ones? When running E85 on my Evo, I had to upgrade the injectors to 1000cc to be safe. In the Evo/subie community it's a must to upgrade that and also run one step colder sparks as well as fuel pump upgrade.

    Hey bud! Been watching your videos for years and finally pulled the trigger on Q60. I know this an old thread but asking if you recommend fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank or not? Can’t find anything certain on the website. I put the addW1 catch can in at 17k. Just got the full stage 3 from AMS. Not E85 yet. Your response would be much appreciated.

    Hey man thanks for the video! So I have everything loose and I'm at the part where your camera died when taking out the fuel bar. How did you get it out mine seems to be hitting the opposite fuel bar and I can't get it out. Am I suppose to take the other one off too?

    Hey enthusiast when your run an E 85 try putting the Lucas upper Cylinder cleaner and lubricant that should help stop the injectors from getting stuck

    I have the exact same codes as you but it’s my cylinder 1 misfiring. Car also sounds cammed but no rod knock. Could this be injectors

    just happened to me but car doesn’t even start have to take it too dealership to reboot the system, my injector went bad then the spark plug and the ignition coil aswell

    I hope that I don't run into any problems as I'm getting tuned in17 days. Just sticking with the 100hp plus tune, heat exchanger and calling it a day. Car is already fast with 300hp at the wheels.

      @@aa_fredo We'll see what the numbers look like with just the tune. Interested to see what the car makes with just the tune. That way can get an idea of what catted downpipes will actually provide. Think I've heard some discussions that higher flowing down pipes can lead to turbo issues on this car. Also I don't want to change and or/increase the exhaust sound level. Love and enjoy the car just like it is but with some more juice to the rear wheels.

      Cleansed by the Blood you’ll probably spend more money if you do eventually go Downpipes the way you’re doing it. Yeah there is discussions that FULL Downpipes will lead to issues down the line but with just lower Downpipes you should be fine. it really is a choke point for the 3.0t

      Cleansed by the Blood you could also just buy JB4 , a lot cheaper and if you’re not adding supporting mods to the tune, probably almost the same numbers. If you’re under warranty and want to keep it, even better to do that

      @@aa_fredo is JB4 likely to add 110 plus hp? If i fail to gain that or higher at the wheel i'll be highly disappointed. I'll be making a video and showing stock dyno hp and then tuned hp plus other important parameters to document heat exchanger performance from back to back pulls. I've worked up a deal they want some more Infiniti exposure. Ecutek tune lic 450.00 and dyno tune session 400.00. JB4 with bluetooth like $600.
      I'm counting on no problems from keeping the car close to a stock Red Sport. It's when you start doing the ohter things that lead to issues. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
      Ive tuned other turbo cars and kept things mild and had no issues. One good aspect is the shop happens to be 5 miles from my house. Issues arise and need to swap back to stock tune they have me covered. I blow the motor up or tear up the turbos and claim warranty then possible issue as they could check ecu history. For casual fun and super random racing on the street ultra low likely hood of major failure.

    Off topic from the injector issue but I heard if you run full downpipes they can cause your turbos to over spin due to no back pressure. What do you think about this?

      Never ran full downpipes to confirm this being a thing.

    Have the same car with pretty much the same mods, thought I was one of the lucky ones but I finally lost an injector yesterday. So I was looking for new ones and found out ams is finally selling the upgraded ones so I ordered those along with new rails for a pretty penny. But reading their disclaimer, they state it’s metal partials from possibly the fuel rail causing the problem on the stock ones and could potentially screw the new ones up too.
    It just seems everyone is having problems when going e85. I guess it’s the added pressure. I hope this will be the end of my fuel problems. I have spent a lot of money on this fuel system.

      5k almost when it’s all said and done if you install yourself to run E85 safely on the VR30. Idk bro, this ain’t a GTR.

    Did you inspect the inside of your engine?
    With e85 I bet your pistons were super clean.

      Yes I did. Valves were clean and everything was in really good condition!

      @@EnthusiastPOV do you credit the catch can or sn plus oil... cause you didn't always have a catch can... so I'd assume you would see some gunk on the back of the valves by now.

      My new engine has 12k miles on it that could be also but i always take very good measure to make sure it’s all clean and running right. I’d say the catch can has done a wonderful job thus far

    So it’s unsafe to run a e blend with 91 to make E-30 ? Even with a flex fuel kit , in-line filter , and lpfp ?

      You can mix e85 with any kind of octane to raise the content specially 91 since it’s always much less potent than 93.

      Yea I’m in Cali bro ! Can I run an E85 mix with just a lpfp ? And just manually test the E content and follow the app mixture ? Or you recommend getting the whole flex fuel kit to be safe ?

      JFYI, I slowed it down a tad as was hurting my head. slowing it down helped, turned volume way down. For future reference Go to the little wheel looking icon right side bottom corner > settings > playback speed 0.75.

    Is it true that once you put down pipe and tune q60/q50 the transmissions go out? That’s the only think holding me back from getting a q60.

    Yea my cylinder 2 is misfiring and the tailpipe smells like raw gas. Running rough about to see what it is.

    I'm dizzy now. LOL! Great job man your brave. I was mainly watching this to see if it is possible to peel back both intercoolers without disconnecting any lines. Planning on cleaning my throttle bodies in place. Looks like you did peel them back but the vid was so fast I'm not sure if you disconnected any line which would call for bleeding the system. Do you have video on throttle body cleaning maybe?

      Hey man, I’m a little late but you can peel back the “squid” without bleeding anything !
      As far as the throttle bodies, I stay away from those. I see the horror stories every day about cleaning those lol.

      No. The Q60 is direct injected. They’re different style injectors

      Lol stock injector went back in. Upgraded injectors aren’t on that market yet

      @@EnthusiastPOV Glad you got it fixed can’t wait for those Nostrum injectors and when your install/review video comes out. Flex fuel is where I want to go as well but not until the full support is out. I give you so much credit for being the brave trailblazer. As I’ve said before so happy Japan is finally using this motor it only means more and more platform support.

      @@EnthusiastPOV I had mine fail and I was lucky they covered me. I just made the engine bay look stock except for the intakes. They did ask if I knew anything about my ecu being flashed 16 times including the day before I took it in and I just said eeeeeeehhhhhhh 😂 can't lie though, it's a good learning experience for you to be able to take your car apart like that. I've done all the work myself on my car so far, but watching this in fast motion made me realize the nostrum injector upgrade might be the first job I take to a mechanic
