This song and many others on his “tape” that you used to shove into your truck’s radio area (words are not my best accomplishments) was what I used to call great “traveling” music when my husband and I would load up the kids and “toddle” around the hill country. Mr. Thompson’s music made it so fun!!!

On this day in 1958 {October 28th} "Squaws Along the Yukon" by Hank Thompson peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, the three weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "City Lights" by Ray Price...
Between 1948 and 1983 the Waco, Texas native had seventy six records on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, twenty eight made the Top 10 with two reaching #1*, "The Wide Side of Life" for 15 weeks in 1952 and "Rub-A-Dub-Dub" for 2 non-consecutive weeks in 1953...
Hank Thompson, born Henry William Thompson, passed away at the age of 82 on November 6th, 2007...
    May he R.I.P.
    * He just missed having a third #1 record when his "Humpty Dumpty Heart" peaked at #2 for 1 week in 1948, the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "I'll Hold You In My Heart" by Eddy Arnold and his Tennessee Plowboys...

I think it's been over 60 years since I heard this song. My cousin and I went to see him live in a local bar around 1968 or 69 where the country artists played. We actually met him. He was standing at the door as we went in greeting people and speaking to everyone. Haystack Calhoun was also there and we met him too. Anyone know him? He was a famous wrestler of the time.

Great, great song, a Happy song by one of our greatest Country singers, ever, Mr. Hank Thompson.
I'm kinda confessing my age, here, but I believe I helped Hank get however wealthy he might have been, me feeding rolls and rolls of quarters into a jukebox to play his records, and every bar and beer joint t frequented back then had a jukebox full of Hank's music.
Today, I cry listening to Hank's songs, to this song in particular...knowing those folks who see this song as racist, are the same Politically Correct folks who have taken away our free speech.
I dare say no more, fearful of these evil people finding out where I live.

    • @Ivartshiva
      @Ivartshiva 2 роки тому +3

Fear not. It's a song of its time. It's the music and the good feeling that matters, I think. The only place where free speech is being suppressed is Russia. We're doing pretty good over here, considering. Be strong, state your thing

@@Ivartshiva Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'm not hear to argue, but free speech here in the USA has been lost, too, as it's been lost world wide thanks to the Politically Correct arm of the ungodly, evil Communist idiots who have recently taken over the whole world.
As far as I know, these fools haven't censored or deleted any of Hank's songs, yet, but they've been very critical of this Squaws song.
I could fill pages about our recent loss of Freedom, but this comment page is not the place.
Suffice it for me to say this Squaws song is one of my Hank Thompson favorites...and I am in no way a racist.
      Again, thanks for your reply.

Absolutely NOTHING RACIST about this - listen to the lyrics, it's a chipper ballad about a true gent who gave his heart up to a well constructed squaw along the Yukon. If anything, the song promotes interracial unions, I mean the loyal squaw even declared her undying "Hooga hooga booshka" to him as she sat upon his sturdy knee. It ought to become the anthem of Alaska!!
