I got a 2020 Jeep Cherokee and it’s alright haven’t had no trouble but I want a truck tired of hauling my tools in the back of my jeep what’s the best model and year truck that’s reliable?
What's your thoughts on the ram's 1500 eco diesel?
Are you gonna do one on Fords 150 please and the best model for someone. Be my dad please. 👨
Scotty, I hear some of the diesel 2500 and 3500 have "aisin" transmissions, is this true?
@@TravisL.Desmadreson 3500s offer them, but not the 2500s from what I understand
As a employee of Cummins who builds engines, I just have to say that there is no letter G in Cummins. Cummings?
That's what she said 😆 🤣
LOL, you've NEVER taken one of your trucks up to "Lookout Point"? (wink)
Scotty gets a lot of facts wrong.
Yeah, I caught that too...... : -- ))
Noted that straight away. Part of Scotty not liking anything other than Honda or the Toy.
As a retired diesel mechanic I can tell you without a doubt the Cummins diesel engine is the best available out there.
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT...
The weak link has always been the Chrysler accessories.
100%
100 percent legit… the V8 diesels in the competition are not as well suited for sustained heavy use and abuse .
As a currently active diesel mechanic I can tell you without a doubt the Ford built 6.7 diesel engine is the best out there especially current generation.
Appreciate your historical commentary. My Dad was a WWII vet and my take was he was a fan of Dodge Trucks especially the Power Wagon that always , " got the tough jobs done," and Then Some. He also had a deep appreciation for all mechanical progress, but at the end of the day the purchases fell on a Mopar of some kind, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, etc.. Keep making enthusiastic, interesting, and helpful material. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, concerns, experience, frustrations and experiences with us all. My family and I enjoy your content. Have enjoyable Thanks Giving!
Confession time: I was part of the production company that filmed those trucks falling from the 10 feet in the air. Those trucks didn't start the first time we filmed that because the fuel pump in the gas tank would immediately dislodge. I'm the guy that figured out the problem and rigged up an external electric fuel pump so they would start and drive away after we drop them. Then: we reshot the commercial. Surprisingly the suspension and everything else was fine, even though: each of those trucks was dropped a minimum additional 2 or 3 times for testing purposes before the second and final shoot. IE: some of those trucks were dropped 5 times with no problem other than the stock fuel pump In the gas tank dislodging!
And then all were happily sold as demonstratiors 😂
You’re so old
@@idaho_7407 That's funny: I never thought about where they ended up. I bet you're right!
Hmmmm very interesting
Can't sell fruit these days
I just bought an 05 2500 with a Cummins. I love this truck, good MPG, good power, and the Cummins is built to last. It has 293,000 miles and 0 blowby! I drive a 2018 Ram 5500 w/a 6.7 Cummins and that 6.7 is nice, smooth, and quiet, but there is no denying that 5.9 is a classic Diesel.
The best dodge commercial that was never made!
Does that thing have a hemi?
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie w/ 5.7 Hemi
193,520 miles still running strong. I have replaced the radiator, alternator, power steering pump and reservoir and EVAP solenoid. I run Mobil 1 5w30 and have dropped the transmission pan and changed filter a couple of times. Very pleased with my purchase and would love to see DaimlerChrysler get back involved with making this wonderful truck. God bless you all.
Liked the video . I am not a dodge guy but my father bought me a dodge ram 50 to use while I attended college up north . It worked
Very well and it got me home and back up to school . A one way trip 500 miles . I loved it until it got stolen . Dodge did good for me .
One can almost hear the impartiality in his voice...
almost..
What are you trying to say?
The RAM turns Scotty on.
@Trenbologna Sandwich Scotty is biased against automotive crap 😁
Scotty is impartial against bad products lol
@Trenbologna Sandwich Yea he hates Dodge and is being paid to make these videos.
I have a '98 2500 Cummins 4X4 that I bought new when the 24v came out. It's never left me stranded and I've only had to replace parts that normally wear out. Still runs great with 250,000 miles on it.
DODGE IS JUNK......NO WAY CHRYSLER CAN RUN THAT LONG
He’ll be dead before he can put that on lol at the mileage he’s at now.
I just mean if it’s at 250k now 20 years later it would take him another 40years to get another 500k like you said
Stick shift?
It's a stupid truck to own. Everytime my retarded neighbor takes his in to the shop it's like 1000 in parts and 1500 in labor. Nice try losers. American companies blow chunks
I had a 1976 Dodge D 100 back many years ago. It had a 318 V8 and a three speed automatic transmission. This truck was so simple. I bought it for $ 400 back in 1987 with a bad engine I managed to rebuild without experience. When the transmission lost it's reverse gear I was able to rebuild that too. Kept the truck until 1998, when the body was getting pretty wonky. I put well over 100,000 miles on it in that time. I loved that truck. It had more power than I needed.
I have a 99 half ton with the 5.2 318 V8, probably the most loyal vehicle I own. It’s about 3 days worth of commuting away from 400k miles. Can’t say I’m disappointed. Everything on it still works, even the old cigarette lighter socket. Only thing I’ve replaced is the dash, had a new one put in about 12 years ago and it hasn’t cracked.
Scotty, blink twice if you love men
Lol
I know, right? I thought Dodge was garbage.
It's the 2025 models that are shity that's why.
JAJAJAJ this is a good one.
I'm sad to see how dodge has changed. We had a used 99 Durango until about 2017, and we abused that thing to death. Wasn't easy to own when gas was $4, but the only reason we got rid of it was because we got t-boned, and insurance decided to total it
2nd generation rams with a Cummins, and manual transmission…simply indestructible & unchallenged platform.
Could probably drive them until the body rust off
Or a Japanese, or some German transmissions
I'm English we don't really have them here but...
A mate in Nashville has one, sorry not sure of the model but it has the Cummings diesel in it. A beast, with over 600,000 on the clock !!! My mate's brother (who is an expert on these trucks) has one with a million on the clock!!!
Great vehicles, but they wouldn't fit in the village I live in !!!
Great video as usual Mr. Scott.

The best Dodge advertisement yet
Dodge hasn’t made Ram’s for over a decade. Have you been in a coma or something ?
@@AussieDazza strange isn’t it?!It’s like nobody realizes they’ve been Fiat since 2009!
My wife just bought herself a new 3500 dualie along with a 37’ gooseneck to tow her Jeep that sits on 40” tires. And she used her own money. I have a 95 land cruiser sitting on 1 ton axles and a LS6 engine, so I get a spot on her trailer if I can get off work. She’s a keeper.
She must be a big lady 😂
I love your wife!
So you are a “Go Get Her” type husband.
I'm sure everyone reading wants to know what else you have; probably easier for you to tell us what you don't have.
What a great story. I love my 2001 2500 with a v10. I've had it 20 years. 80000 miles. It looks like new inside and out. No rust anywhere. Alway garaged and put away for the winter. I only use it in the summer months. I had a guy last month tell me that it should be in a museum because it looks so good. Best truck that I've ever had.
That's funny. Now see how well it fairs in the winter months
I mean, you literally took care of it that 99% cannot. Most will need to use it year round and not baby it. You really cant judge a truck on treating it like a luxury classic car.
80,000? Hmmm a true aficionado of the pickup. You should try out the New Mexican made versions. Only you could appreciate the craftsmanship.
;
80,000 miles in 20 years of ownership? You hardly drive it....its a heavy duty truck, not a Ferrari
Finally! A fair review by you, about the Dodges! For me, these trucks are by far the most reliable of the big 3! I love these trucks. They just need to be maintained, and they will take care of you.
My dad has a ford and he’s dropped 10k in it fixing it over the last two years. He bought the dreaded 6.0 diesel you hear so many horror stories about. Oh and it’s broken down right now also smh. However his last truck ford king ranch with v8 never gave him big issues just the little stuff that’s expected
Owned 3 dodges, no major problems other than maintenance. Have 2 currently a 2010 Charger Rt and A 2012 Ram 1500 w/Rambox.
I've wanted a dakota for a while, or a single cab 1500 ram. I bought an obs gmc yukon instead and I'm satisfied.... for now.
Thank you for the review. I have a 2018 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi. I love it. It has the power I need for hauling. Plus it's just right for running my 4 wheeler up on to go riding. My 2010 Tundra had more power but, 14 - 16mpg verses 18.5 - 22 mpg makes a lot of difference going back and forth 40 Miles a day to work. I have not had any problems or complaints. I love this truck. So far so good. Bought it with 12,666 Miles on it and now has 56,284. Tuff little bugger..
Jeffrey
We've had an 03 Ram 3500 4 door long bed with the overload springs straight out of the factory with the exhaust brake. Had 8k lbs in the bed, didn't come close to bump stops, towed veeerrry heavy loads, and to top it off it was one of the years with absolutely no EPA garbage! Love it to death and with some modifications it got up to 1200lbft of torque and 26mpg unloaded highway. 18 loaded. Now it has a 6.7 swapped in and is even more amazing. Love the truck and would recommend it to anyone. It also has the 6 speed NV5600 which I wish Scotty had talked about because it is bulletproof out of the factory.
How hard was it to swap the 6.7 and Trans in? I'm on my third 48RE and I'm just done with it.
@@iPhoneAppReviewer What keeps failing on that that transmission?
Scotty finally throwing some love to our legendary cummins powered trucks from Ram. If i lived closer id let him take mine for a day so he could talk about it.
Move closer to him then
2012 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Hemi.. 214k miles with no hiccups down the road. Proper maintenance and a little luck are the golden ticket to longevity. My only concern is that the engine will sometimes instantly crank over instead of churn a few times, but it's rare enough and no issues as of yet.
I would like to see a re-vamp of the D-50. With a turbo charged I-4 engine with at least 250 whp, and 260 ft lbs of torque. A diesel option would be great too. Diesel with at least 175 whp, and 300 ft lbs of torque. Diesel must have a EGR-less engine. If the did this they would control the mid-truck market.
Miss my mom's old mighty max.
I work in the Cummins plant that makes that Diesel engine. Trust me, this engine is absolutely bulletproof.
I love the Cummins engine, I don’t like the ram that’s wrapped around it
What would you say about the 3.6L pentastar? Or the 8 speed transmission
If it is bulletproof why can’t they get more than 300,000 miles without a major overhaul anymore? Unless you take all the EPA crap off them they don’t last anymore.
If its bullet proof why cant the turbos last more then 15,000s with out blowing the engine up? Or what about those transmission seal leaks at around 10,000 miles ?
@@Unique377 I'm no Cummins mechanic nor owner but I've never heard of those issues being common. You have a source?
Bought new in 1994 a second generation Dodge ram 1500 2wd. The 5.2 liter (318 c.i.) has always been my favorite engine. I now have 308,000 miles on it. Other than a crank sensor going bad at around 110,000 miles and normal tune up parts and oil changes, the engine and transmission are untouched Still runs great. Just put on the second water pump and replaced the original thermostat. Only replaced the starter motor once and the alternator once. I live in Michigan so yes it has some rust.
I've owned it 27 years and still love it. I keep up pretty good on the maintenance. I've personally done close to 100 oil changes on it. It still runs great.
5.2 mágnum 96 ram 1500 253205
Good engine no have problem...
Those 318s were great engines!
I just bought a used 2001 2500 cummings diesel powered truck 130,000 miles. I plopped a carry/slide on camper in the back of it. AND, It didn't even notice the weight. Good mileage too. I'm in love !!
3:40 Factual error: you said the 2nd gen Ram from 94 came with "turbocharged" V6 and V8 engines. C'mon man. The Cummins had a turbo, not the gassers.
yep youre right. I own a 94 with the 360 and a 97 with the 318. no turbos
Dropped a 5.2 in my 97 1500 a couple weeks ago. No turbo. Guess even Scotty Kilmer can make mistakes!
I have a 93 dodge 12bt turbo charged 5.9 with a nv4500 trans
Come on man Scotty can slip up once
For Gods sake will someone please tell Scotty how to pronounce Cummins. There is not a G at the end.
He also pronounces “Porsche “ with one syllable 🙄
keep making these informational videos they’re great!!
I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with the 3.6L - man it gets me through everything. Hauls a yard of topsoil, 4x4 through the worst snow storms. Its like a companion to me now. Just rolled 100k miles. Havent even done brakes lol.
I bought a 2020 2500 with the 6.4 last year. It is my 5th Ram truck, dating all the way back to my 1987 W150. My friend just bought a 21 3500 with the HO 6.7 Cummins and it's amazing how capable that truck is. That 1075lbs ft of torque is amazing
How do you like your 2020 2500 hemi?
I had a 2011 Ram Bighorn 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. It towed and carried everything I could throw at it and drove more comfortably than every Chev,Ford I ever drove. Great truck, only complaint was bad fuel economy but it made more power than I needed and never caused me any grief....I should've kept it.
I've seen many quite similar stories about the hemi ram trucks, the diesel manual transmission ones, they are legend.
Drive a tunda believe me there is a big difference
My 2011 1500 just turned 60,000 miles. It looks like new, drives like new, paid for, does everything I need. Been a truly great truck. Oh, and it's a plain jane model, debadged, bigger tires and I get compliments on it all the time. And I don't miss any of the useless technology built into the newer $70,000. trucks either.......put that in your pipe Scotty!
I had a 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesmen as the lone family vehicle, camper tower, materials and debris hauler, etc. It did everything I needed. While camping in Virginia Beach, my wife noticed that everyone else had 2500s, 3500s, 250s, 350s,...and she kept saying to me, "we need more truck". I was resistant because my 1500 was nearly paid for and did everything I needed. The morning after returning home from that trip, my wife woke me up and asked, "are you ready to go look at trucks"? Thinking I would pacify her, I agreed to 'look'. As we approached the lot, we both spotted an Olive Green Ram 2500 Tradesmen. It is now mine, and I paid it off after just two payments. Stepping up to the 2500 was a great choice! I smile every time I see it, and I get compliments on my truck all the time. I've done some small upgrades and have plans for some more involved improvements. I doubt I'll ever sell this truck and I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.
Love your videos so helpful. I want to get into doing Hotshots. Now I know what truck to buy. Thank you 😄
I love my 2008 1500 RAM have over 330,000 miles still looks and drives like when it was new
My dad bought an ‘01 Dodge Ram 2500 new. Cummins engine, manual transmission. Gets in the 20s for mpg, and currently has around 370k or 380k mi on it. The dash is cheaply made, so that’s cracked. Overall a super solid truck though. He’s upgraded the tires, rims, and exhaust. Has a different heavy duty front bumper. Large topper. Always had custom seat covers on it, so the original seats are like new.
My dad does also lol.
Guess the dash is not easily replaced? To match the good condition of the seats
Horrible truck. Expensive to keep going.
@@eggy1962 It's a secondary truck now as of last year. His daily one now is an '07 or '08 (newer body style) Chevy Silverado Duramax 2500 HD. Long bed. Black exterior and interior Fully loaded. Pre diesel emission crap. A beast of a truck. Tons of power. Luxurious in comparison to the Dodge. The Dodge is now his second vehicle for hunting trips, or he occasionally goes to work in it. He might turn it into a snow plow truck since my parents' driveway is a 1/4 mi long. Both very reliable trucks
@@erniecarrasco9107 Overall he hasn't put a lot of money into it mechanically. And he bought it new with cash, so no interest payments.
Scotty, I always turn up the TV volume when you say REV UP YOUR ENGINES😆
Ya and the little tune at the end. I cant understand why ANYONE wouldnt like this guy. 4.57 ! Other youtube mechanics who speak poorly of him only shoot themselves in the foot.
Great explanation and analysis. Thanks, Scotty.
I had a 1989 Dodge Power Ram 50 back in the day. A really great little truck. It would be nice if Ram would reintroduce something like this. I know that Mitsubishi made it for them, but I didn't care. It was a great truck, and I loved it.
Yea and I loved growing up in the 50s and early 60s. Time to move on those days, products and this once great country of our is in our rear view mirror never to return.
It would be nice, but legacy auto refuses to build anything small anymore because they can't make outrageous money on it. But of course everything is so high priced now they can't sell anything anyway. Lol
Great quality video with cool history and recent model comparisons
I have the 2014 ram 2500. It is my first big truck. Night and day difference compared to 1500. I couldn’t believe how much power it has and how hard it is to get it stuck. Out of the box it was a winner , but the upgrade path has been inexpensive and rewarding with almost as much aftermarket as a Honda !
I love my Ram 1500! It does everything I’ve ever asked of it. Camping, fishing, hunting, overlanding, and more. Great mpg all the time and it looks great. I won’t touch the newer diesels because I don’t want to have to buy some additive plus fuel. Which is sad because I used to drive a diesel 6.5 ltre turbo for 21 years and loved it.
I’ll drive a Ram for the rest of my life.
You lost us when you said great gas mileage. The Dodge Ram is well known for being able to ⛽️“ Pass everything ’cept a gas station” ⛽️ HaHa I little humor, Glad you’re enjoying your truck.
Hi @Prepperjon how long have you had yours? And what would you say is your annual repair bill average? Cheers 🍻
What do you think about the 2007 ram 1500 mega cab 4x4 with 235k miles is the engine coming to an End with this many miles?
@@rickyrudd28texacohavolinef2 in comparison of the 3, 1/2 ton pickups RAM and GM both had combined mpgs of 26 (diesel) the Ford 25mpg (hybrid) and 23 (diesel) and the Chevy diesel 27 so id say youre wrong about the mileage claim...

Considering how often he uploads a video it almost seems like he's more concerned with channel growth than consistent info
@@itsyaboi6335 he had made a video a year ago about how much Rams are trash, and just now made this video! 🤔😁
Still have my Dodges. Probably never sell any of them. 1950...through 1987 is the newest. Pickups and medium duty trucks..
2014 1500 3.6 L V6 Crew Cab with tow package. 60K miles never one issue. These 8 speed automatics with this suspension is perfect for a guy with kids and towing a 14' aluminum bass boat. So much room and comfort. Quiet smooth ride that looks great. I love rams, but it's basically a mini van for me with a small bed 🤣. But that's what I needed.
Just upgraded my first Ram truck a 2018 1500 big horn crew cab, first vehicle i ever bought new. Got it at a year end 10k off event, held it value so well, i had a trade in value of 34k, which is the same purchase price i paid for it 4 years ago. had 65k miles on it. Replaced it with a 2020 Ram Rebel quad cab with 5k miles. I think im going to stick with rams for quite awhile. Hell maybe ill be lucky enough to find an alright priced TRX to upgrade this ride with in a few years when its paid off
We just bought a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited. We were going back and forth between that and a 2500. I hadn’t seen this video before the purchase and was afraid to watch it! I respect your honesty and worried that you might say something that would make me regret the purchase. Your video not only validated our choice, but filled us in on some great history! Thank you for all of your hard work. What a great resource!
My wife convinced me to step up from our 2017 Ram 1500 to a 2021 Ram 2500. I was reluctant, but extremely glad I did.
Scotty for sure is going to receive a 1099 form from FCA early next year along with the Toyota 1099 form he receives every year.
Stellantis.
Got a 2020 ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 hemi etorque when I got to the dealership they were unloading some new trucks and when I seen it I fell in love with it ended up buying it and I couldn’t be happier in the 2 years I’ve had it I’ve already put 90k miles on it so far I’ve had no problems at all not even as much as a transmission slip or a dead battery it still runs brand new even though I average about 250 to 500 miles a day with heavy equipment in the bed I absolutely love it and couldn’t recommend one of these new body style rams enough!
We had a 3500 and it was very bumpy . We switched to the 2500 and its easier to ride in even when pulling a car hauler. We do that a few times a year. I can actually read in it unlike the 3500. ( that’s important on long trips. 😊. Thanks for the info Scottie
You can't go worng with John Dutton's favourite truck!
Replace the sway bar with a carli torsion sway bar and it'll be the smoothest ride of your life. Upgrade the full suspension if you have a need or the money to but Ram's sway bars are the stiffest on the market and upgrading them makes a huuuuge difference.
I'm on my second Ram 1500. On the first I had to replace a door lock actuator and that was the only issue (except for when I left the tailgate down when towing my boat and crunched it pretty good on a sharp turn, ouch). Second one is my favorite vehicle I've had. The 5.7 Hemi and ZF trans are a good combo, smooth and reliable.
My first vehicle was an 2002 Dodge ram 1500 regular cab short bed with a 5 speed manual and the 4.7 magnum. It was a great truck and it lasted perfectly with the transmission shifting smoothly all the years of its life. Sadly I got into a rollover and totaled the truck. I miss it.
Man that’s sad my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 has 4.7 V8 Quad Cab Full sized bed and I love it but I have a few dents in it but it runs like it’s brand new!
I drive a 06 1500 with the 4.7 in it. Great truck. Drove it across the country and back with no issues. 222k miles and still going strong.
Great video … Great comparison. Thank you
Whatever happened to the big 3 we used to like? In today’s age, they crank out crap faster than they can dump it. They make a poor product and expect us to buy it at an inflated price. Man, I miss the old days and ways.

I'm disappointed that Scotty failed to mention their legendary Leaning Tower of Power 235 cid Slant Six.
225?
@@danielrustom9732 Oops! 225 it is. That was used in Dodge's cars, pickups and vans from 1960 thru 1987 then kept in production until 2000 for marine, agricultural and industrial use.
Well... you asked, so- I prefer the 3500, but mostly because I have one fully loaded already. One thing you didn't mention nearly enough is how comfy they are- sometimes, I just go hang out in mine with my dog and watch a movie on the VES because the heated leather seats are more comfortable than any chair in my house!
I own an 89 D250 with the 5.9 Cummins. My truck was originally owned by Cummings and was used to maintain their property at the S.C. plant they owned. After selling that property the truck stayed with it. I worked for the new owners and bought the truck for 100 dollars. The battery was 9yrs old and they didn't understand why it wouldn't start. After a battery and brake job I've been driving it for 15 years. I plan on driving it till I can't drive anymore. Great Truck.
I had a Ram 1500 4x4 and it was totaled last summer. When I get my next truck, I plan to get the Hemi 2500 4x4. Honestly, my 1500 was perfect for what I used it for but I want the larger truck since there is not much difference in gas mileage and it seems like the price difference between the 1500 and 2500 is not enough for me not to take advantage of having a larger truck.
Truly surprised to hear Scotty say anything good about Mopar especially if that includes the current Hemi's.
I got a 2019 Ram 1500 classic with the V6 , 3.55 rear instead of 3.23. Was skeptical of a truck with a V6 but after a couple years now I'm happy with it. The ride is comfortable, the road noise is quiet on the highway and I get an average 22 mpg. Couple hundred bucks swapped rear springs for 30% higher capacity ones. Compared to my 2003 Dodge off road that had the 5.7 I don't miss half the gas mileage. V6 with the 8 speed is enough for daily driver, light loads and trailer towing.
My 2014 RAM V-6 gets 27mpg on the highway. Have owned an 89= 135 HP V-6, 94= 175HP V-6, an 02=215HP V-6. My 2014 gets the best mileage with the 8 speed tranny and has 315 HP. I have test driven Ford, Chevy GMC, and even Toyota. None come close.
2019 1500 V6 e-Torque here. Bought with 25,000kms and was a year and a half old. What a great truck! Daily driver / long highway trip cruiser. 25,000km in the last year. Tows a trailer with a few quads, a horse and trailer, or other light duty items. You pay a fuel penalty for mountain driving while towing above 2500 lbs (I think max is about 7000lbs on the V6) , but if unladen (or even towing on a flat road) it's amazingly efficient for a 1/2 ton V6. Hard to find flaws.
I've had both Hemi engines. My 2008 Dodge 1500 had the 5.7 (I enjoyed that little hot rod)
Next I bought a 2015 Ram 2500 crew cab 4x4. That was very powerful. However pulling grades with travel trailer in tow was uncomfortable at 3800 RPM and 6.2 mpg. Loved that truck but stepped up to a 2016 Ram 2500 Crew cab with a Cummins. What a difference. I went and upgraded up to a 35' fifth wheel. I can pull that same grade up the Salt River Canyon at 1800 RPM and get just short of 15 mpg.
Love my Cummins 2500!
I have a 3500 Cummins for work and last year I bought a 2014 1500 hemi to save miles on the diesel, what a freaking hot rod that thing is.
I love them both.
I like to puff on the Cannabis Cigars and get all schmoked up while watching the Scotty Kilmers videos

Thank you for this great video. Can you talk more about the 1500 and different trims they come? Which one is the best across them? I am looking at buying one new next year. Based on my research, it looks like the Laramie has more luxury and comfort features than the other ones. Am I wrong?
Limited best 2020
ABSOLUTELY NOBODY Tells a story like Scotty, I really enjoy when he does this type automotive history! Great work!
The truth is a Ram hit my Tesla the other day..lol
I have a 1500 with the 5.7 and I really like it. I had a 2018 and now I have a 2021. These trucks have come a long way in the last 10 or so years. So far so good.
Lot of good Information.Thank you for sharing.
I've clocked almost 13,000 miles on my 2022 TRX and I absolutely love that damn truck. To me its the best of both worlds. Performance of a sports car, luxury interior with the Level 2 package and its practical to still haul the merchandise for my business. Obviously the MPG is terrible on it but I didn't buy it with fuel economy in mind at all. Its a shame Stellantis is killing the HEMI engines though. R.I.P.
I love my 2021 ram 2500 with the big hemi, tow anything 99% of people need to tow unless you tow for a living or extremely heavy and I still get around 15 mpg in mixed driving, pretty awesome for a truck with 3,000 lbs of payload and almost 15,000 lbs. of towing capacity all while towing MUCH better and costing relatively the same as a new gen ram 1500
The movie "Twister" used a nice red Ram that caught my attention to Rams as a kid truck dreams 😄
and "die-hard with a vengeance" Walker Texas Ranger had them 2nd gens
I was 8 when that movie came out, and have wanted one ever since.
Here's the truth about the Fiat Ram. They're great trucks down south. If you drive them up north they rust out because of the salt-trucks.
I love my Ram 1500 with the 5.7. 73000 miles so far and have only done basic maintenance so far. Hope it keeps up
Scotty! I almost fell off my chair watching this video! You didn't trash the Dodge/Ram brand! Are you feeling OK? Did you hit your head or something? This IS an historic day !
🤣
If Fiat/Chrysler offers a big sum check in exchange of talking fine about the brand, i’ll also do it.
Agreed 😂😂. Maybe Dodge/RAM is paying him or threatened him with a lawsuit unless he put out some vids like this .
I like him like this

Hey Scotty, been watching you since I was a kid living in Spring TX. Outstanding video sir, but ya left out the HO Cummings in the 3500. I own a '21 Limited, and wow the power is outstanding. I still have my '98 2500 12v 4x4 with 680k on it. Will never get rid of it, looks like crap, but starts everytime on the first turn. Please keep the outstanding info videos coming!!!
There is no g in cummins
I rented one for a long road trip a couple of years back. Actually, it was all Enterprise had available at the moment. It was a 2019 1500 if memory serves. What surprised me most was the great gas mileage it got over the course of my 3000 mile trip. I've often wondered, however, how well they hold up over the long haul. I tend to keep trucks for a very long time. I put lots of miles on them. My current truck has over 300k on it. I'd consider a Ram 1500 for my next truck, so long as it isn't a maintenance money pit.
What’s your current company choice? Toyota? Ford? Something else?
Sadly after owning multiple ram's, the long term reliability is was pushed me away. Most of the time it was just electrical issues, or ABS, but I did have trouble with late 90's automatics with the half ton. Not saying other don't have issues, I just don't want to give them my money at this point after having so many issues on rams and some of the cars covering about 15 years between 1990 - 2005.
Was employed by a rental company for years, been out sense 2013, at that time the diesel version had exceptional fuel economy, made one replacement delivery in excess of 600 miles, 29 mpg and I didn’t baby the vehicle. Best part was, didn’t have to refuel. Think green.
I just sold my 09 and it had 300k and still ran like a top. Daily driver and the most expensive repair over all those miles was I replaced the worn out upper and lower control arms and ball joints. Just normal wear and tear. Replaced a starter, battery, two cooling fans and front wheel bearings over the years. Very cost effective truck and never once broke down on me. Just maintenence. I still drive a ram that has served me well.
My RAM has been more reliable than our toyota by far. But its a 2005 ram
great Video, thanks:)!
Scotty thank you for all your videos especially these history lesson ones. Outstanding work man I love you
Well if Scotty does one of these video's on Chevrolet I'm throwing in the towel!
Do it, Scotty. Talk about the Vortec 4800 and suchlike. Just glaze over the parts about the Chevy Cruze and remember how longlasting the old cavalier was.
I’ve got a square body with 487k miles on it. Basic maintenance and everything will last long. Except a 6.4 powerjoke
@@rowdy5.9L how many times do you have to slam the door to get it to shut?
I have a 2016 ram 2500 and absolutely love it don’t even want to trade it in on a new one , you never know what you can get!
I had an 02 1500 pre hemi gasser. I had a couple transmission issues with it to include the transfer breaking and falling out the bottom of it at about 130k miles in 2017. In 2016 it broke a U joint hauling an empty trailer up a bouncy hill. I fixed and sold it. I did enjoy the truck but I got a good deal on a ‘12 F-350 gasser which has been excellent as a used truck. I use that to pull my ‘45 Dodge WC-51 and also my ‘41 WC-8 when it gets done. The 1500 was too light to pull the WC-51 although once I moved it without a bed so it was lighter.
I do think the Rams are the best looking trucks but my experience with the transmission and driveline was not good.
loved the history lesson about dodge but i was expecting right at the end of the video ... Buy a Toyota haha Great vid.
so accurate! my next and last vehicle will be toyota/ dodge.
Yea well take my advice. Buy a toyota! Had a 4th gen dodge ram 1500. What a pile of crap it was. Only had 100,000 on it. Bought a Tundra and couldn't be more happier.
I was shocked he could say all that with a straight face given how he feels about Dodges.
You know that Ram is very reliable truck better than new Toyota Tundra with a shitty V6 .
@@GoingPostalSince2012 he was probably paid by Chrysler to do this tbh
Bought a new 3500 crew cab drw Ram with Cummins and manual tranny in 2017. In the first 105,000 miles, it has cost $18,000 in maintenance replacing DPF, turbo charger actuator, trailer brake module, abs module, crank case ventilation valve, tires, filters, 2 batteries, and clutch slave cylinder. Not very happy with the last truck I’ll ever need. What is going to break next and how much will it cost to repair?
I knew I'd find some truth in the comments. I'll never buy dodge or Chrysler again
14 times to dealership in 20 months.
never repaired electrical properly.
The dealer says computer will shut down vehicle for flawed lugs shortly and no replacement parts until next april.

Leased a 2019 RAM 1500, we put about 50xxxkm during the lease. I noticed it started to get the hemi tick. Mentioned it to the dealer during a service and they said it was normal. When the lease was up the same dealership said the engine was ruined and it needed to be replaced. We gave them proof of oil changes and they covered it under warranty. The truck was great to drive but the legendary hemi didn't last and the dealership experience was poor.
I like my 2016 1500 with the Ecodiesel-on the open highway I routinely get 30-35 mpg, while around town about 22-25. I live in rural Utah, so I normally don’t deal with a lot of traffic, other than getting stuck behind a hay truck from time to time. And it’s a good family vehicle, able to seat 6 reasonably comfortably. Towing capacity is only around 7600 lbs, but I don’t need to tow a huge amount…
Price starts at 35k? I know 4 people that just bought one. The cheapest one was a 1500 for 74k and the most expensive one was a Cummins for 90k. Then to top it off we all live in California and pay 8.5% tax on that and about $1500 in registration. That brings the grand total to $100k. I’m pretty sure your not going to haul gravel in that.
Actually many of my clients do 😁, God bless. 🇺🇸
😂😂😂 I got mine for 98k 3500 but lucky it payed it selfs off
@Austin TA I bet, Canada is socialist
@Austin TA here in the states, I pay 23% in federal, 17% in state tax, and about 8% in sales tax. We don’t pay one flat tax, we pay taxes on taxes and again taxes on our taxes for everything. It’s the same here, it all goes to illegals and the worthless.
Just bought a 2018 Ram 1500 with a v8 hemi last night. Runs great! Has plenty of pep on gas, quiet and smooth ride. I got the crew cab. Plenty of room for family and pets, and plenty of storage for all kinds of odd stuff. I need it for some towing, some work around homestead, and just getting around. It's our family vehicle now. 😀
I bought a new Ram 1500 in 2014, and I now drive the 2019 version. Zero complaints with either one, great trucks.
How fast things change. You can just about DOUBLE the cost of these vehicles today (June 2023) from what they cost when this video was made in 2021. Soon, the EPA will have us walking and riding bicycles again.

I think Scotty may have been threatened with a lawsuit from Stellantis if he didn't say something unharsh.
I think he's getting paid for this by Chrysler honestly
Or maybe Cummins are just simply the best diesel engines.
@@bigrunts9768 those trucks are like the 1993 Ford tempo with the larger engine option. The power train was great but the vehicle disintegrated around it.
Nice history lesson on the brand, I remember the Ram logo on my Dad's '53 Dodge 1 ton Stake side body dually
The Ram Cummins is my most favorite Truck ever built. You take care of them don't beat them or roll coal constantly you'll have a truck forever
How did you manage to say so many words about Dodge without saying anything negative?
Because Chrysler wrote the script and gave it to Scotty, along with a load of cash, presumably
This was a very good overview of the Ram Trucks. I have a 1996 Ram 2500 HD with the Magnum 5.9 V8 Gas. It is a great truck that my family has owned since new. It has been an awesome truck and I am not looking to replace it any time soon. Like the person who has the Cummins who commented earlier, just regular maintenance and it lasts!
My first Dodge was a 1986 150 with a 360 engine ran the wheels off that truck when I retired from the Military I picked up a 1999 w350 12 valve Cummins for the ranch loved this truck gear driven transfer case solid axle with leaf springs al the way around 5 speed manual , manual hubs for the 4 wheel drive wished I still had it. Bought a 2008 3500 6.7 Cummins which was the only truck I ever had problems with and they were all the new emissions control systems this was the last truck I was able to get with rubber floors vinyl seats roll up windows a true work truck still love the Cummins but the trucks have gotten to fancy they need to put out a bare to the bones work truck again
I almost bought a Bighorn 4X4 but it was a 5.7 with the e torque. I was very concerned about the etorque and was worried about that battery going out down the road and decided not to buy it. Any thoughts?
