I drove 3 Chevy Silverado 1500’s over the past 20 years. Then a few years ago I bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. I couldn’t be happier. The acceleration, passing power, quiet ride, are all much better with the 5.7L hemi vs the Chevy 5.3L. The biggest surprise is the gas mileage. Highway MPG w my Chevy’s was 17-18, but my Ram w the 5.7L gets 20-21MPG at 75mph highway driving.
My '17 gets 19 mpg on the highway, but that's only because of the MDS, which makes me nervous, but it is nice getting that kind of mileage out of a V8. Not sure why yours gets 20-21, maybe the gear ratio?
I tow over 9k boat regularly with my 5.7 Tundra 2wd. I usually stay between 65 and 70 on the highway, and get 13 on the highway and 10 in town. However, that truck has done the job for 205k miles without any problems outside of normal maintenance and a brake master cylinder replacement at 200k. From the way it runs I should easily get another 200k out of it. Point is I’ll take reliability over gas mileage any day of the week.
Yeah my 2006 Tundra, alway kept in a garage, was very reliable right until the frame rusted and I had to scrap it. Toyota did a recall and sprayed the frame with some black stuff when it was about 8 or 9 years old. But in 2019 bye bye. Reliable indeed.
Test drove a 2020 Tundra as a replacement for my 2006. The bouncy ride and 13.6mpg on the display scared me off. Bought a 2023 SR5 4wd and average 20mpg. I miss the Gen 1 Tundra, but the safety systems and improved capabilities are fantastic.
@@timmotley5032 so did you get a Taco or??? I daily drive a ‘19 4L 4-runner SR5 and get much better mileage of course, but it has no balls compared to the tundra.
If Scotty knows karate, I sure would hate to get in a fight with him, the way he moves his hands and arms he would beat the crap out of you in a second.
Love the episode. I got a 2022 F150 Plat Hybrid a year ago and own a 7000# Airstream that I tow. I ignore the truck computer mileage and always check my mileage at the pump. I get 12mpg towing which is what I got on my 2017 3.5L 10 speed; however, that is because it runs the engine during towing. I have gotten up to 25.4mpg in town. I really like the truck. It pulls the camper like it is nothing. I too am all for hybrids. This is my fourth F150. I went from a V8, to a 3.5 6spd, then a 3.5 10spd and now the hybrid. I much prefer the hybrid.
I'll take a 15 year old V8 that I can easily fix and replace parts for 1/5 the price. If the hybrids and electric trucks are still running in 15 years, I'll buy a used one 😂
@MotersickleBum Where I live, it's -25 for 6 months of the year. Roads covered in ice, 10 foot snowbanks. There's no way an electric battery lasts 15 years, even if it's garaged, it still has to go out in those conditions.
For real I would rather put 15k into my 06 than 80k into a new truck. I only have to worry about 4 or 5 big repairs. With these new trucks, who knows there could be 15 different concerns that could be 5k plus in repair cost.
A Hybrid is NOT something you want to buy 15 years old! Granted, they have shown to be very reliable...many mid 2000's Prius's here in New England still driving with the original battery and 300k miles. But it's really just a matter of time at that point before they give out. Personally on a truck I don't really see much upside for a hybrid. 2-3mpg better? Not worth it in my view. My Fusion hybrid gets 55mp+ in the city...better than double its gas only siblings. Trucks are not about getting good mpg anyway. I will note; hybrid batteries are MUCH cheaper than a full electric car battery. $2-4k is still expensive no doubt, but nowhere near as high as people make it out to be. In many cases they are cheaper than replacing a transmission or engine, for example.
@@stevegee7623I was looking at a low mileage vgc Saturn hybrid SUV 7 years ago. It was 8 years old then and it's battery was already dead. I think it was close to $8gs for the new battery + extra for installation and disposal of the dead one (another few hundred $) It apparently turned into a real hog on fuel after the battery died. They wanted a hefty price as is making it way too expensive for an obsolete vehicle. I would have definitely bought if it was affordable it was nice looking otherwise.
If I had to buy a new truck of that size I would go hybrid before full electric. Won't suffer range anxiety, be stuck when the grid/chargers are not working etc. Economy is important but reliability is also important. If I get reliability and still over 30mpg with a load I'm a happy driver.
40k miles on a 21 F150 hybrid. It’s been a great truck. Lots of power if you need it, & economy if you lay off the gas. A few small warranty issues that are all solved. A number of recalls as well but none have affected me. I’ve gotten all but one (waiting for parts) taken care of. BUT- Scotty, I don’t know where you got your mpg numbers from, but real world numbers for towing are much much lower. Everyone’s mpg will be dependent on their driving style. I’m a smooth driver, favoring fuel mileage but I still run 70-75 on the highway. My daily drive is 50/50 city/highway and I’m at 23.4 over the life of the truck. I use the Feully app to log all my fill ups and maintenance so this is not reliant on the dash mileage computer. Plus, I calibrated the truck computer to within .2-.4 mpg using the engineering mode. Both my F-150’s I’ve owned were over 1 mpg optimistic. Towing varies on load, physical size, and driving conditions/elevation. But a 8000lb trailer would probably net no more than around 13mpg on a flat highway. At least that’s my experience.
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 5.7 V8 hemi that has over 200000 miles on it and it runs great, I continue to make sure I change the oil every 13 weeks, not 3000 mi or 5000 mi but every 13 weeks because I don't even drive 3000 miles in that amount of time, when I used to change my oil every 3,000 Miles, it would be several months and the oil would end up looking nasty, so maybe changing it every 13 weeks if you don't drive all that often is a good idea.
Just tested a f150 tremor v6, a xlt v8, a hemi and a sierra. Overall the tremor is the best. The ram limited is great and look the best inside and out, I just can’t get over their screen that you have to touch it several times to turn on your heated seats and camera. Sierra is like from the last gen if we are talking about the suspension comfort and power. You can’t go wrong with either ford or ram. Funny thing: Salesman at Ram said GMC is garbage, Salesman at GMC said Ram is garbage, both of them put Ford in the middle😂
Also I’m into audio systems and their sound quality, the b&o unleashed in the ford and the harman kardon in the ram are pretty similar, their difference is minor. But the Bose in the Sierra isn’t that great which is very obvious when you listen to these three systems back to back. I like the harman best but it’s just my personal taste.
For myself, the ford’s dealer gave me a ridiculous deal, for a tremor 402a, they want me to spend over 1400 cad for a 24 months lease, with 10000 down. The window sticker on that vehicle is 87000 cad. They tried to hide the actual price, the otd because it’s so high! Over 110000cad for a tremor? The Ram limited is more reasonable. 94000 cad otd sounds pretty good to me. I don’t know if it’s a good deal but at least better than the ford. The sierra is so bad so I didn’t even ask for the price.
@@joefriday6324 You should always be aware of what you are paying for right? No one wants to pay $100000 when others can get it for $80000. And yes, the tax here is 15%, which makes a $90000 vehicle over $100000 .
I drove Tundra, Tremor F-150 and a RAM Rebel within a day, to really know the difference. Tremor was by far the best truck but check the forums with all the issues they have and continue to have. The RAM feels slower and the vertical navigation screen is a terrible design. New Tundra feels small inside to me and cheaply made compared to the other options. I still say the previous Tundra was my favorite.
Honestly I work as a technician for a company that certifies the mpg because of the fiasco of one of the car manufacturers a few years ago car manufacturers have to have a third party verify what they are sending in to the EPA and we are also audited. Also our dynos replicate real world road conditions to get accurate data. Ne
Battery replacementwill cost more then the truck is worth 10 years from now. Guess what, bunch of ev will be filling up the landfills. Hows that for environmental friendly less
2022 Ram Laramie just like that truck, I've been on road trips and got 23 mpg normal highway speed limits from Corpus to Tulsa off one fill up 35 gal tank. Also the E-Tech systems is awesome, if your not in terrible weather you will never idle because your engine will turn off with E-Tech. It really solves that problem with the Hemi tick. Best truck i've ever had, rides like a Cadillac. The only thing I hate is the price of these trucks.. The quality is there though so I guess you get what you pay for..
I think Scotty is the only one fighting for better cars and for gasoline powered vehicles. We need to back him up folks. Otherwise our kids and grandkids will live in a world of crappy cars that cost a fortune.
I'm happy with my 2017 Ram 1500 with the V6. Just what I needed. Great truck for work, and towing every now and then. I average around 18mpg. However I got up to 22.7 mpg the other day going way up north to New Hampshire.
I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with the V6 and always get between 22 and 23 mpg, in town, stop and go driving. On the highway I can get 24 to 25 mpg, assuming I am on a level surface and not going up hill. I'm very happy with it. I don't tow anything.
Never got over 28mpg in 12k. in my powerboost. Too small a battery so only good around town. Can't do a roll though a yield bogs on switch over to gas. Leaves you in danger too often. Twin-turbos turn oil black in 4k.
The shifting he is referring to in the f150 is from the skip gear function in the transmission. It's always trying to get to the highest gear possible no matter what at low throttle input and is kind really annoying. It goes away in sport mode or when you stomp on it because it doesn't skip gears when it's past about 50% throttle. When around 10% -20% it goes 1-3-5-7-8-9-10 and anywhere in between. It can go 1-2-4 then 5 and 6. It's really annoying and is why most people get a TCM tune for the truck to clean it up or like I usually do.. drive it in sport mode at all times
I have a 23 and it never skips gears no matter the mode or how much throttle you give with the exception of 2nd. I assume they've changed the programming. I've never seen it use 2nd gear......haven't towed yet since I've only had a few weeks, but will find out in a week while towing an 8500 lb boat/trailer.
@@gobsmacked230rear wheel drive is dangerous as hell in inclement weather compared to front drive with the weight of the motor for traction. Used to throw weight like sandbags over the rear axle for traction in the old rear drive trucks I used to have. An empty bed and you can't even pull out of a parking space on snow or ice let alone drive safely.
I'm so glad I have a friend with the correct software to turn off the auto start crap off! Especially with the all gas V8 engine, which is extremely important of a F-150
I've been looking for a first truck, and while i'm definitely leaning toward a midsize, the F-150 checks all the right boxes. Their hybrid implementation seems to be great compared to what the Tundra and Ram has in place.
Go for the F-150 powerboost (the hybrid). You won’t be disappointed. Ride quality and power is incredible. 430 hp + 570 lb/ft torque. 1000 overall power.
That’s how Dodge/Chrysler/Stellantis gets ya! Fancy comfortable interiors….they should be spending their r&d and engineering budget on seeing what the Japanese do and DO THAT! LOL. Their priorities are all jacked up.
I just rented one for a week. Really comfortable, easy view in all directions, easy to drive, nice radio feels really sturdy. The only downside was the crazy powerful Hemi inhaled petrol no matter that you are slowly putting around or going highway speeds. The bigger downside from this - the older Dakota, a "mini version" with the V6 gets identical mileage. GM gets a little better economy but along with it is a very bumpy ride, less visibility and cheaper feel.
@@TRDTalk Any "big tank" is like this. No matter what brand. The trade off is they are more sturdy and useful. Anything that sips fuel usually can't do much work. It just useful for you, one passenger and a couple bags. The guzzlers can haul the entire family and a boat up a mountain.
The problem I had with hybrids is that each model takes its own pacific battery now three years from now they switch models they switch the battery seven years your battery goes bad and they no longer make that hybrid battery that’s happening with a Ford fusion unless manufactures want to keep making a certain pacific battery that trucks entire life which could be 20 to 30 years you couldn’t give me a highbred are electric car save my life
Still loving my used 05 XLT F150 with the 4.6 litre V8 that I have had for 15 years now. Simple old school technology and very cheap to maintain and operate.
I don't believe that for a second. I only get 27 mpg in my lighter Coyote Mustang at 70 mph. No way a heavy and tall V8 truck is getting more than 25 at 70 except downhill.
I have a 2023 Hybrid F150 (Powerboost). Its definitely better than other 1/2 ton pickups. I'd say NO bleeping chance on pulling 8k pounds. No way no how. At 70 mph, on a round trip I've had it over 20mpg. At 85mph round trip, I've had it as low as 12mpg. At 60mph....round trip, you're probably looking at 23+. Pulling 8k? 21mpg? No ffing way. At times I wish I had not gotten the Hybrid, as I've found myself wondering "Hmm...I wonder when the battery is gonna fail and how much that's gonna be". Whoever told him 21mpg...shame on you. Well, I dunno. Maybe in a straight line with a wind at your back going 50mph. I mean, pulling a trailer, the hybrid portion isn't going come into effect. It's only and always at low speeds when the engine isn't under load. I also think so many exaggerate their MPG. I see a guy below saying his 5.7 Hemi Ram at 75mph got over 20. I had a 2020 Ram 5.7, no mods, and going 75mph round trip (I say round trip to offset the wind), I'd say 15-17mph. Is it possible, at some point and time, for some distance where you're going slightly downhill, or with the wind to get gas mileage like that? I suppose, but it's NOT what will happen on a continual basis to the point where you should be telling people "My Ram 5.7 gets 21mpg going 75mph down the interstate". If someone buys based on that...after a month they'll be calling you names.
As they should scare you! There is a good reason they use orange for the A/C lines! LOL - the electric system in an EV is a 350-400V 3-phase electric motor - that’s serious power, running with around 32 amps of current- that is NO JOKE. Stay far away from those orange wires!
All my V8 vehicles generally get better than sticker MPG and I have a lead foot. My V8 Titan is supposed to get 11 around town a I get 14-16 with a lift and big tires, even in 4x4. Itll drop to 11mpg with a 7k lb trailer. My V8 Mustang (Manual) gets 30-35 mpg. Never had less than 30mpg even after stopping at the drag strip.
What kind of Mustang is that? My 5.0 Coyote can sometimes get 26 mpg highway although I don't expect that cause the 3.73 axle ratio was meant for performance and not fuel economy. Only saw 32 mpg once and that was 65 mph on the interstate.
Bigger tires on a truck will throw off your mpg calculations, gotta have the speedometer adjusted as you are actually driving faster than your speedo is telling you
Had a 2015 Tacoma 4.0 manual transmission and 4wd, my nickname for it was Rust Bucket pulling a 2 axle uhaul trailer I got 12.5 mpg and was lucky to get 18 when not towing around town, 2017 I got a F150 2.7 Ecoboost 4WD and towing the same U Haul trailer I got 14 and 20.4 around town. when I traded last summer it had 94k and no rust underneath.
I can see why F150 is a top seller!! Price is a kinda massive component of comparison & Tundra is the only 1 he mentioned price on… yet he gave us NO final verdict. C’mon Scotty- take a stand & tell us what u think brother- that’s why we’re here man!!
I was deciding between Toyota and F150. The game changer was the fact that Toyota's do NOT come with front end tow hooks. You don't need them until you need them, and when you need them and don't have them, you'll be hopping mad.
I don't believe it. I have the RAM Ecodiesel which gets 30mpg at 60mph and 35mpg with the wind behind me. I pulled a 6000lb boat 900 miles with a feather foot and got 19mpg. Diesel has more btu than gas. So no gas truck will do better than my diesel, and yeah, I barely let it get over 1600 rpm.
Really loving my '16 Ram Laramie Ecodiesel as well. Gets 26-28 mpg empty at 70mph and tows my 6,000 lb boat with ease. Bought it from my buddy's widow in April with only 52,000 miles on it. It had the reflash for emissions before I bought it and it does lag until warmed up...the only annoying thing about it, other than the PLASTIC thermostat housing, which is tricky to seat with the oring in order to avoid a leak.
With a 10 speed F150 you cannot put real truck tires on them and expect all the overdrive gears to work at highway speeds. At least dont do it in Wyoming the speed limit is 85 and your mileage will drop like a stone. Like 5mpg or more lost just changing my tread pattern while maintaining the stock tire dimensions. But hey I have to do truck things and it's an icy mud hole up there half the year. And that was on a 3.5 ecoboost. No telling how that added strain may tear up a hybrid over time.
Saw a review of the HD 3500 1 ton. Big three. Most power / Ford, Ram, Chevy. Best interior Chevy, Ram, Ford, Best tourqe, Ford, Ram, Chevy. Highest price Chevy, Ram Ford. Conclusion Ram.
Had a 98 F150, drove it till 2012 with the 4 6 V8 and never missed a lick. Sold it because the frame rusted through driving in salt water every day. Guy who bought it drove it 2 more years until the frame broke at about 300,000 miles. I bought a brand new 2013 Ram with the HEMI, at 65,000 miles the truck fell apart around me. Everything from the AC, brake calibers, power windows, and rear end locked. It ran hot on me 1 time so i changed thermostat and traded it in on a cold day and laughed when they gave me 13,000$ for it. This 2020 Titan I have now is doing great besides the gas mileage. I want a Tundra but need a V8 to pull with, considering a hybrid but don't trust the tech. Should I go get an older Tundra, or trust the Titan and hope for the best with this Nissan.
OK, you were lucky with your Ford. My co-worker and his eco-junk Ford, two differentials, transmission, turbo, and many other problems. 88,000 miles, and he let the finance company repossess it. The company Ford F-250 we drive has failed to start several times within 100,000 miles. My co-worker's Rav 4 started falling apart at 60,000 miles. After many trips to the dealer, it's fixed now. My ex neighbor's Tacoma, frame rust. I see rust on the frame of my neighbor's Tacoma. We live in the Southwest, not the rust belt. My brother's 2005 Ram, no problems. My 2015 Jeep, no problems. My 2009 Challenger Hemi, no problems. My brother turned wrenches for 40 years, ask him, will tell you they are all junk, even Toyota.
I’m in the middle of my second Lemon Law’d F150 Powerboost. The best MPG I ever saw was 24mpg and I live in Florida where it’s flat. I just ordered a Silverado with the 3.0 Duramax. First Chevy I’ve ever bought. I’m done with Ford!
Give me my 1996 1/2 Ford F-150 Lariat prototype 3 door any day over these new ones. 325 HP, 4.6 L V8. Too bad they rust out, 500,000 on the thing, just broke in half.
One of the issues I see Is when you use the truck for towing a boat, and, sometimes we get the boat too deep in the water,, It might f*** up the battery for the the hybrid system..
If I was buying a new truck, I'd choose the Ford hybrid, because I can A-plan, actually it's Z-plan since my brother is retired. It's the same discount. If I was buying a slightly used truck, I'd pick the Toyota hybrid. All of them are nice looking. Great video Scotty, good information. Thanks, John
Of course buying new you won't have to worry about as many problems. However, if you have the budget for a new car it might as well be the Toyota that will last.
Scotty messed up, the highest MPG is rated as follows...He is off by TEN MPG!!! The hybrid version has estimates as high as 25 mpg city and 26 highway.
Hybrid systems tend to be better then the official numbers. Our prius says it gets 40mpg but gets more like 50 in real life even after being 10 years old. All the low power idle engine time it cuts out on doesn't get captured on a dyno test.
Haha he says to buy a diesel if your going to idle all day. Not unless it’s straight piped or it causes tons of issues with the emissions equipment. My work truck is always going in to get the emission equipment cleaned since we idle it so much
Nobody gets 36mpg in a hybrid f150, SCOTTY!!! You know thissssss. It doesn’t matter that his real time mpg gauge said he did at that one second of his trip lollll
I got a new tundra 22 1794! It’s not hybrid but has 43k now driven many times cross country and zero issues! That is a Japanese V6 all the issues were with the turbo supplier. My truck had zero issues! Trans is flawless!
I just bought a 2022 Toyota Avalon Limited Hybrid, 40+ mpg!, surprisingly powerful but I'm less impressed with the intrusive tech. And that wobble freaks me out two- it reminds be of old 82 Suzuki GS1100 shaft drive bike, weird kind of sideways hitch. My last car was 2013 MB S550 I thought that one was a rolling computer, I had no idea how much more advanced cars became, and the Av sounds like the Jetsons car when it backs up.
I have the F150 Tremor 402A, with 22k miles. Best truck I have ever owned. It checks all the boxes for me. I have two sins both with F150s with the 2.7 eco and both over a 100k, zero problems.
I've never understood the concept of electric only. Maybe in the future when everything has gone electric and electric pumps are as common as gas pumps. We've been running hybrid vehicles for a long time using lead acid batteries in diesel locomotives. That's a well worn and tested technology. I'm still waiting for someone to make a small, cheap, and reliable diesel engine. Not anything with serious horsepower but enough to slowly charge a battery over time at high efficiency. Maybe one designed specifically for bio diesel instead of trying to adapt bio diesel to existing diesel engines. Edit: Diesel locomotives with lead acid batteries, but for hybrid cars use better lithium or nickle technology.
The other day, I was driving past a car wash and, to attract attention, they had one of those inflatable "dancing man" thingies out front. At first glance, I thought it as Scotty Kilmer, then, upon closer inspection, I realized what actually was.
My friend brought a hybird F150, reg hey mpg, 23, towing 12 mpg and been in shop 9 of 14 months own. Stay with a simple V-8 and use a truck as a truck, and stop expecting 4 cylinder mpg and V-8 power. This truck also takes 91 premium gas, which is not impressive.
Eh while the transits run they are nice to have, Ford is still a decent fleet company. I love the current GM cargo vans and the current generation of V8 engines/diesels but they are not what they used to be no.
Mine is a 2015 F150 210,000 mi and counting. Replaced water pump, front brakes, wheel bearings (“front wheel assembly” ). Runs great gets 18 in city and 21 on highway. 5 l v8. 6 speed automatic. They woke now. Toyota next God willing. 😮
Problem with ford is instead of recalls they issue TSB. Consumers pay for the TSB. Can you imagine how many TSB’s are issued on hybrids or full electric? Not to mention most technician’s have a hard time figuring out any modern gas vehicle.
It’s a shame they couldn’t find a way to combine the Coyote with a hybrid system.I guess the emissions wouldn’t work with todays regulations. I’d risk the complexity of the hybrid but not when combined with the known expenses associated with the ecoboost as they age. If you’re gonna trade it in every 60 or 70k, it’s fine.
The 5.0 isn’t a great motor for a truck. It’s a high revving low torque motor perfect for the track in a Mustang. It tow terribly. Because it has to get way up in the rev range to produce power. So loud you can’t talk in the cab. Great mustang motor bad 150 motor. So since it has to work harder it wears out faster IF you use your truck to tow. If it’s just a driver, then no biggie
I mean, looking over the recent history of V-8's, the Coyote is plenty reasonable for a V-8. But regarding your concerns, that's exactly why I think it would be the perfect candidate for a Hybrid System. The Hybrid system would provide the low end torque down low in the RPM range. Obviously not as much as a twin turbo, but again, you wouldn't have the issues that many have had with the Ecoboost.@@jimsteinway695
@@jimsteinway695 Compared to the 3.5 Ecoboost, the 5.0 is lacking torque. But compared to the GM 5.3, the 5.0 makes plenty of power and the truck version is more focused on low rpm torque.
My Nephew has a 2016 F-150 with the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost. He's got 165,000 miles on it and it hasn't missed a lick. The problem with most of the ones that have problems, people don't change their OIL. Like Scotty says OIL is cheap engines are expensive.
21 mpg would be great towing. My 2019 F150 V8 towing a 3500 pound travel trailer gets about 11mpg. Travel trailers are like pulling a 9 ft high wall down the highway.
Have a 2021 f150 XLT with the 3.5L and had transmission issues, skipped and knocked and ford just replaced it and it runs like a dream. I love how smooth the 10 speed is nothing like it.

" EXCELLENT " as usual ‼️‼️‼️
RAM makes some decent trucks and they’re known for being “luxury trucks.” Wish I should of gotten a RAM truck but their price is too high
I love my Ram 2500 Cummins. The engine has so much power that it easily tears up the transmission. Hecho en Mexico!
@@mplslawnguy3389If you activate gear limit and set it to 8 manually it negates MDS & cylinder deactivation.
Buy a Ford and option it right and you get both.
Toyota lost me as a customer with their transition to turbo vehicles.
Wow! Scotty talked & waved his arms so much he changed the weather.
.....he must be our answer to global warming.
If Scotty knows karate, I sure would hate to get in a fight with him, the way he moves his hands and arms he would beat the crap out of you in a second.
Good exercise!
My little 1999 Ford Ranger 5 Speed Manual was an excellent little truck that I truly regret trading in years ago..
Me too, I sold mine, I still regret not having it around. Great truck
I still say the same as Scotty, with a full size pickup, go V8 and forget the electric or hybrids
Nah !
I'll take a 15 year old V8 that I can easily fix and replace parts for 1/5 the price. If the hybrids and electric trucks are still running in 15 years, I'll buy a used one 😂
The batteries last about 10 years before needing replacement, so buyer beware on a used hybrid, be ready to pay about $10,000 for a new battery bank.
I think it was close to $8gs for the new battery + extra for installation and disposal of the dead one (another few hundred $)
It apparently turned into a real hog on fuel after the battery died.
That is a pipe dream 30 mpg towing 😂 good luck
Hybrid is probably the smartest idea right now until electric gets better
Full electric...dumb. Very dumb.
Thanks again Scotty, you are a gift to all !!👍
I have a 2014 ram v6 186000. I have had no major issues. Biggest issue ive had my clock spring went out in my steering wheel.
Btw it’s tremor 402A, Ram 1500 limited and Sierra 1500 Denali.
Ne
Those hybrid batteries are super expensive to replace 8-10 years down the road…
Absolutely is too soon for electric but R&D should be done. Pushing something ahead of time is always a No No
I'm happy with my 2017 Ram 1500 with the V6.
No flipping way it gets 21 MPGs towing 8k, nor does it get 35 MPGs unladen. What the crap
It's a hybrid. It probably does.
My 5.7HEMI gets 23-26 miles to the gallon. And has over 261,000 miles on it with no problems. It's a 2016
Haha yeah right.
Change that 2 numbers to 1
I happy with my 2012 Expedition King Ranch that we bought last year with only 39,500 miles.
Wow what a great find such low miles.
God bless!
Well that’s great, but what does that have to do with this video?
@@dutch4117 Nothing. I felt like sharing
That's the point only 39k
Thanks, great information on hybrid options and how they work.
I honestly find it hard to believe that the hybrid F150 gets 35mpg 😄
Fr those hybrid parts really make a difference but imagine when they go out too
Goodbye money
I've had mine for over 12k miles and never close to 25 mpg. Freeway speed of 80 mph gets me 20 mpg. Highway speed 55 gets 22 mpg. 30+ 😂😂😂.
Towing an 8000 lb trailer is more like 9-10!
Never got over 28mpg in 12k. in my powerboost. Too small a battery so only good around town. Can't do a roll though a yield bogs on switch over to gas. Leaves you in danger too often. Twin-turbos turn oil black in 4k.
Even though in reality, it gets 18 to 20, that is still way more than my Jeep. That thing gets 14-16 and it's bone stock!
I love all your videos I learn every time I watch one excellent and explaining everything Thank you so much
The shifting he is referring to in the f150 is from the skip gear function in the transmission.
Described it exactly. Didn't care for the shifting in my dad's Ranger only when going low speed and it lugs the engine.
My 2000 Crown Vics tranny is always *SEARCHING FOR GEARS.* It's extremely annoying & it still does it w/o overdrive on, but less.😲😲😲
Is it that cold up there already Scotty? Florida's still, well FL. 😂
Thanks for this vid Scotty we are still not sure about this technology its like it can track our every move anywhere anytime IMO.
Scotty should do a video about 2wd with a locker vs 4wd. Seems like most folks better off with 2wd with a locker.
What kind? TorsenLSD, clutch packLSD or manual (fully on/off)?
Problem is that's hard to find st desler
Until you try driving that 2wd w/locker in the snow...on a hill. Fishtail city...no thanks
@@gobsmacked230rear wheel drive is dangerous as hell in inclement weather compared to front drive with the weight of the motor for traction. Those hybrid miles are a fantasy. I have a powerboost. I’m averaging 19. Towing my 6000 trailer I get 10mpg.
I've been looking for a first truck, and while i'm definitely leaning toward a midsize, the F-150 checks all the right boxes. Their hybrid implementation seems to be great compared to what the Tundra and Ram has in place.
I bought a 2011 ford f150 with the 5.0 and its great. The gas is not great but i only put premium in it.

Go for the F-150 powerboost (the hybrid). You won’t be disappointed. Ride quality and power is incredible. 430 hp + 570 lb/ft torque. 1000 overall power.
That Ram interior was nice can’t lie
GM gets a little better economy but along with it is a very bumpy ride, less visibility and cheaper feel.

the hybrid trucks gets 21 miles per gallon towing that is amazing and it does not start on fire awesome makes it better then the teslas
Just got a f150 coyote truck is amazing xlt no hybrid for me. I get 30+ mpgs at 70
I don't believe that for a second. I only get 27 mpg in my lighter Coyote Mustang at 70 mph. No way a heavy and tall V8 truck is getting more than 25 at 70 except downhill.
Some of the memes you toss up are just too awesome! HAHA
1st gen tacoma for life 🌮❤️
THE TOUGHEST TRUCK ON THE PLANET !
I have an 18 tundra with the v-8 and average about 14.5 can get 18 on the highway I will keep my v-8
Those orange high voltage lines would scare the cr** out of me if I was working anywhere near it.
As they should scare you! There is a good reason they use orange for the A/C lines! LOL - the electric system in an EV is a 350-400V 3-phase electric motor - that’s serious power, running with around 32 amps of current- that is NO JOKE. Stay far away from those orange wires!
I agree, I like to work on my vehicles so I think I wouldn't get one just for that reason alone.@@mikenormandy9250
You make me feel better about my decision to buy my Hybrid Maverick, thank you Scotty!
Pretty good review scotty. I like the ford best of all trucks.
Bigger tires on a truck will throw off your mpg calculations, gotta have the speedometer adjusted as you are actually driving faster than your speedo is telling you
I don't like electric cars or trucks can't pull a horse trailer
I had a ford powerboost f150. Kept having A/C Issues dealership couldn't replicate and I got tired of it and got rid of it.
Ford and software are a combination I'm going to steer clear of.
You sir are uneducated
And Fix It Again Tony will NEVER my business...PURE GARBAGE!
24v Cummins diesel manual 6 speed is the only way to go. For pulling.
I can see why F150 is a top seller!! Price is a kinda massive component of comparison & Tundra is the only 1 he mentioned price on… yet he gave us NO final verdict. C’mon Scotty- take a stand & tell us what u think brother- that’s why we’re here man!!
Of course, he wouldn’t give a final verdict because he would have to say the F150 is better than the Toyota
It kind of seems like Scotty tiped his hat towards the F150.
Is why the Ford was shown first. 😅
I was deciding between Toyota and F150. The game changer was the fact that Toyota's do NOT come with front end tow hooks. You don't need them until you need them, and when you need them and don't have them, you'll be hopping mad.
He would say Toyota for several reasons
I would not touch a Chevy or dodge those companies turned to crappy engines
I do think a plug-in hybrid is the way to go until solid state batteries become mainstream...
Go with manual transmission and a V8, to enjoy the longevity. No need for a hybrid.
Truck was purchased right down the road from me at Lynn Layton
Best interior Chevy, Ram, Ford,
Best tourqe, Ford, Ram, Chevy.
The titan is a beast. I'd just stick with it until prices come down
The tundra is a great truck, but the titan is great too. I’d drive it til the wheels fall off then get a tundra.
Chevy/GMC not included because they are known to be garbage for the last 16 years.
It’s not just weight, it’s how much aerodynamic drag there is with the trailer.
my dad and i drove from buffalo to knoxville with his trailer full of stuff he got 9.1 mpg in his 2023 super duty
Give me my 1996 1/2 Ford F-150 Lariat prototype 3 door any day over these new ones. 325 HP, 4.6 L V8. Too bad they rust out, 500,000 on the thing, just broke in half.
Broke in half? Ha! Just tape it back together. No problem.
You don't have any duct tape ?
325 hp? How? Those things were rated at like 220 hp back in the day.
One of the issues I see Is when you use the truck for towing a boat, and, sometimes we get the boat too deep in the water,, It might f*** up the battery for the the hybrid system..
Because nobody considered that while designing it right? 😂
It will be fine.
This made me appreciate diesels a lot more now
Saved to watch later since it's longer than I can watch right now... but I did notice that nissan is not on the list...
Great video and keep it up bro thank you for your video and thank you for your advice to this truck.
Timy beds are a joke. I wish they would bring back 8ft beds for half ton trucks not just the single cab 1/2 ton trucks.
Ford makes an F-150 supercab , which is the smaller rear seat with an 8 ft bed. Only in the lower trim XL though !
I got to get me one of those Ford pick-ups the F-150 high bread.
@@icosthop9998 Someone is high on something.
@@icosthop9998Just why 😂
Scotty messed up, the highest MPG is rated as follows...He is off by TEN MPG!!!
The hybrid version has estimates as high as 25 mpg city and 26 highway.
25 for a truck? If it’s cheaper than a regular car, for some reason… I’d buy it
@@hamburgerhamburgerv2 But he stated 36 MPG, NOT 26 MPG as Ford rates it.
Hybrid systems tend to be better then the official numbers. Our prius says it gets 40mpg but gets more like 50 in real life even after being 10 years old. All the low power idle engine time it cuts out on doesn't get captured on a dyno test.
Go to fuelly, more like 21 mpg average on this.
You’d never get 30mpg on that truck pulling a trailer.
Scotty has made the best point about hybrid vs all electric. I don’t feel so apprehensive about it.
Scotty with that brutal cybertruck uppercut "not something that's not a joke" 🤣 🙏 yessir
My wife has a 1998 ford E150 work van she gets 30 mph with a V6 with an overdrive. Runs good has over 200k miles.
Scotty, you’d be pleased to know Ford has been selling the Super Crew with a 6.5’ bed for nearly 15 years now. I have a 2013.
Luck of the draw when it comes to some of these turbo's. Some get lucky some don't. Same for most vehicles these days.
You can disable regenerative braking, so the Tesla doesn't brake when you get off the gas. Like a dino ICE engine. Then you lose range from the regen.
I wouldn't touch ANY new Ford, the company is a complete joke these days.
For sure
Eh while the transits run they are nice to have, Ford is still a decent fleet company. I love the current GM cargo vans and the current generation of V8 engines/diesels but they are not what they used to be no.
You sir are definitely uneducated
Ford Raptors, are they reliable?
Mine is a 2015 F150 210,000 mi and counting. Replaced water pump, front brakes, wheel bearings (“front wheel assembly” ). Runs great gets 18 in city and 21 on highway. 5 l v8. 6 speed automatic. They woke now. Toyota next God willing. 😮
Modern diesels don’t like idling all the pollution control junk.
Idling destroys them unless you install high idle.
Problem with ford is instead of recalls they issue TSB. Consumers pay for the TSB. Can you imagine how many TSB’s are issued on hybrids or full electric? Not to mention most technician’s have a hard time figuring out any modern gas vehicle.
Only thing I don't like about F150is the frame. . Alot. Of problems
I agree on the first part that Ford should do more variants of the hybrid for 2024. I disagree on the 3.5 Ecoboost cause it's been generally reliable.
My work has 7 f150 5.0s all over around 140k miles and none have had any problems
5:55, least strain would be a v8 turbo diesel, nothing else even comes close to the crazy amount of torque produced by these diesel engines.
No thank you!! Im happy with my 2001 ram diesel 5 speed manual im getting about 23 mpgs 😄
The dash says 13MPG Average.. Not so great!
