This was Corey Haim and Corey Feldman's first film together, which marked the start of a popular 1980s trend "The Two Coreys," in which Feldman and Haim starred together in a number of teenage films. Corey Haim jammed with his co-stars between takes, and enjoyed the large props room. Excluded from the nightly parties held by the older actors, Haim bonded with Corey Feldman as they stayed in the hotel watching movies and visited the local arcade. Gerard McMahon wrote the theme song "Cry Little Sister" after reading the script, but without seeing the film. In the documentary Bloodsucking Cinema (2007), Corey Haim said that all the blood had glitter in it to give it a shimmering effect and was "slimier than other fake blood." When asked why he did the film, Joel Schumacher simply stated: "Vampires are hot. They're the only erotic monsters. Frankenstein is not hot." The film is titled after the companions of J.M. Funny enough Brooke Mccarter (Paul) actually worked a lot with Haim after Lost Boys too, even singing the opening to 1991's Fast Getaway that Haim starred in. They were really close, along with Brooke and Billy Wirth who would repeatedly go to horror con panels
Yep, Feldman was indeed putting on a Stallone style voice for this role, as he was instructed to do by Joel. The fact that you put that together without knowing that as a fact; must mean he did a pretty good job with it. He and Newlander were also told that their roles were serious and to treat them as such, they didn't catch on that these were comedic parts until crew members starting laughing with their performances.
@Razh 80 That would be the character. Naming her after the LEAD would be to call her Jami, after Jami Gertz. Who I had SUCH a crush on after this movie came out.
I adore Lost Boys, i even write stories for the fandom. Honestly I cried at the news of Joel's passing. It was so tragic after Corey Haim was lost, and later Brooke Mccarter (who, fun fact, was originally casted for David but ended up being cast as Paul), it sucks that so much of the Lost Boys family has been truly lost. But their memories live on in this cult classic
I grew up in Santa Cruz (filming location) and in the mid 90’s we housed my fathers coworker, who was in town for about three months from his home country, India. He had been in town less than a day, and the first chance he was alone with me and my brother (away from my father) he asked, with a very straight face, and in complete seriousness: “Is it true that there are vampires here?” My older brother replied “No! That’s not true... ...but DO be careful when eating rice!” Happy to report that Pradeep left 90 days later, WITHOUT encountering a single vampire. He also refused to eat ANYTHING during any meal with rice involved!
Have I got news for you, they did finally make a sequel, and while it was dumb it wasn't as bad as people thought it would be. Did it have David in it? No. Did it have the saxophone guy? Hell yes (for a second).
This movie has been a staple in my best "horror" collection ever since I was 11ish. My mom who is a horror freak showed it to me and my younger siblings and ever since, its been an awesome film that I watch from time to time. I even saw it on a double date and we were cracking up laughing and then making fun of the last battle by using Pokémon terms like "Nanook used Tackle." "It's super effective!" Good times with this movie...sucks that the two sequels were terrible, only tolerable by Feldman's lines in the second one. "I went online, filled out a few forms, and clicked 'ordain me'." Also, the soundtrack is easily one of my favorites growing up. Even now when I hear "People are Strange" or "Have a Good Time (Tonight)" I instantly think Lost Boys.
lol nah, in reality he abducted kids who didnt want to grow up and they stayed in neverland, much like how Peter was trying to do to Wendy and her brothers, but in the end they accepted that they have to grow up, even if it is unpleasant.
Michael: You have a big date tonight, Grandpa? Grandpa: Just going to drop by some of my handiwork to the Widow Johnson. Michael: What did you stuff for her? Mr. Johnson?
I just realized something you forgot to mention. The two kids name are "Edger" and "Allen". All there were missing is a "Poe" and we would of had the trio knows as "THE CROWS" !

What's tragic is Joel had written up a script for a prequel that would tell how the boys- David, Paul, Marko, Dwayne- were turned in 1906. Kiefer Sutherland, Brooke Mccarter, Billy Wirth, Jameson Newlander, Corey Feldman, and Edward Herrman were all willing to reprise their roles, the other writers were all for it! But unfortunately Warner Bros massively procrastinated until actors were too busy, Joel had other projects, and eventually they were far too old to play the boys. It is a major loss because the script may not be diamonds and gold, but it could've been something amazing.

I did a photoshoot of my Paul cosplay from The Lost Boys the day before he died. It was weird talking about how great Joel Schumacher was and then hearing he had passed the next day. It would have been a perfect review, if it had mentioned Brooke McCarter and Billy Wirth a bit more who played Paul and Dwayne. They are among my favorite actors! Billy Wirth is such a humble sweetheart and Brooke McCarter was a great guy too. They happened to be best friends while Brooke was still alive. Brooke also was good friends with Corey Haim until the end as well. Corey Haim said his two best friends in life were Corey Feldman and Brooke McCarter. Brooke McCarter died a few years after Haim from a rare genetic disorder. Luckily, his daughter is only a carrier of the gene with one of the recessive genes, so she won't get it. @Justin Halladay Maybe but they are a bunch of babies to actually use them in a fight. While the lost boys has no problem with torture and killing you for fun. And truthful I consider the lost boys better because they don't need some fancy powers to get the job done.
Yep, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was directly inspired by this movie. They even used the same makeup technique for the look of their vampires. The makeup was pretty ahead of its time! Sean Astin said he worked in a movie theatre in 1987, he once saw a lady run out of the cinema screaming during a showing of The Lost Boys; as she was petrified of the vampires lol
The movie is actually a retelling of Peter Pan. A bunch of parentless kids. They lost their real families and can never go back to them. They have an underground hideout. They can fly around. They never get older. Their leader is searching for a real mother for them.
@@motor4X4kombat Yeah, it took me a while back in the day after I first saw this at the movies to piece all the connections together, and my friends dismissed my theory out of hand. But I'm sure it's correct.
@@MandleRoss I didn't get it until I watched it, but it's definitely the best adaptation of Peter Pan I've ever seen. I honestly consider it more a Peter Pan adaptation than a vampire movie. It didn't have much influence on the genre outside of aesthetics (but the aesthetics were really influential, they set the look for the entire 90s,) but it's mostly a Peter Pan adaptation. I love the adaptations that really lean into the "never growing up is bad because kids are horrible people" theme, and I love how this movie brought that theme home by using the vampire archetype, just really making it clear. I think it's mostly this movie, and Once Upon a Time that actually really emphasize those themes, and it's why they're the best. Also I think Word of God proves we're correct. I'm pretty sure there's an interview somewhere where they actually directly state that the film was meant to be an adaptation of Peter Pan

"Sleep all day, party all night, never grow old; it's fun to be a vampire"
The Goonies+Dracula=The Lost Boys
Yeah that’s honestly 100% accurate lol
I grew up in Santa Cruz (filming location) and in the mid 90’s we housed my fathers coworker, who was in town for about three months from his home country, India. He had been in town less than a day, and the first chance he was alone with me and my brother (away from my father) he asked, with a very straight face, and in complete seriousness: “Is it true that there are vampires here?”
My older brother replied “No! That’s not true... ...but DO be careful when eating rice!”
Happy to report that Pradeep left 90 days later, WITHOUT encountering a single vampire.
He also refused to eat ANYTHING during any meal with rice involved!
Fun Fact: David didn’t die at the end. He was planned to come back in the sequel, but it never got made, so he was brought back in a tie-in comic
And the comic is terrible except the part where sax man is a vampire hunter called The Believer 😆
Have I got news for you, they did finally make a sequel, and while it was dumb it wasn't as bad as people thought it would be. Did it have David in it? No. Did it have the saxophone guy? Hell yes (for a second).
they did make an awful sequel but you can't really count it as one lol
How on Earth did he NOT die?
Their are 3 movies...
"I went online, filled out a few forms, and clicked 'ordain me'."
Also, the soundtrack is easily one of my favorites growing up. Even now when I hear "People are Strange" or "Have a Good Time (Tonight)" I instantly think Lost Boys.

@@BWMagus To be fair, sometimes, some jokes work better on set or during the first few viewings than a repeated run... it's like Jar Jar... back then, many people didn't deal with characters like him... so he was likeable to watch once or twice... but people obviously didn't watch Ep 1 once or twice... and learned to hate Jar Jar...
To this day any time I hear "Cry Little Sister" I immediately think of The Lost Boys.
