Harley Davidson Stage II Torque Cam Compared to Stock

- We installed a Screamin' Eagle Stage II Torque Kit on a 2018 Harley-Davidson Softail Street Bob and compared dyno graphs between the stock and upgraded cam.
With more performance parts becoming available for the new 2018 Softails, we decided to make yet another mod to our in-house 2018 Harley-Davidson Softail Street Bob. The thought was we'd stick one of Harley's cams into the Milwaukee-Eight 107 motor, pairing it with a Stage I Kit (air cleaner and mufflers) to see how big of a jump in performance we could get over stock. Of course we needed to remap the ECU after the installs, and we used the base map the Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner offers for this exact setup.
When all was said and done, we ran the modified bike on our dyno and recorded the numbers. Bottom line? The Softail Street Bob showed an increase of 18.93 hp along with a jump of 1.45 pound-feet of torque. But more important than the peak numbers are the torque and horsepower curves; notice how the horsepower tracks a steady increase all the way through the rpm. The torque curve also has a smoother decrease rate than the stock numbers, with a drop-off at a much later rpm, which is also less severe than stock. With our Screamin' Eagle Stage II Torque Cam installed, the Street Bob's M-8 107 engine is now able to stay closer to peak power throughout more of the powerband.

This is why peak numbers don’t matter. Look at the gains everywhere in the graph. I bet this is a fun ride
Hhmmm...2..more torque...20 more hp...shouldn't that be called a horsepower cam?
Just love non Harley owners watching and commenting on Harley videos. 👍👍
@Beardicus long reliabily problems, you mean in the 70s?
@Soundwave maintain it like any other vehicle, as the book recommendations and it will last for decades .
I got it and absolutely love it!
Got a torque cam, stage 2 on my 19rgs. Worth every penny- road glide for life
Stage 2 really is as far as u need to go imo. Its wonderful
I agree
What wiring harness did you use with the bar risers and digital display?
I just got my 2021 road glide back from the shop, went stage 2 462 S.E cam , result is 102.5 at power at 4500 rpm and 116.5 torque at 3500 rpm, runs in strong and sounds great, I'm running vance n hines power duals and rinehart slip ons (rineharts was on the bike from the dealer) otherwise it would be all vance n hines, I have to say it sounds way better than I imagined it to be, this was suposed to be the horsepower cam, but my torque is just about 4 numbers short of what the torque cam puts out, and I gained much needed horsepower , so I got the best of both worlds without voiding my warranty on a stage 2
Was it important for you to not void warranty? I’m sainting to do stage 2 but I’m thinking aftermarket cam instead for more gains
I was wondering if a SE tuner or what Tuner was used.. however That stock torque curve doesn't resemble some others I've seen which showed more flat curve..
Was the bike tuned using the Harley pro street tuner?
Wow. I didn't realize just how bad the stock cam is on the new bikes. I would have never guessed the torque curve would drop so soon or so much. Not in a million years would I have guessed this.
Can you guys compare torque cam and power cam please
Could you guys please do a SE power to compare with the torque
Can you guys do a comparison with the HP Cam?
I've been wanting the HP cam over the Torque cam, but I cant find anyone running it for an M8.
seems the torque cam gives more hp and not much more torque.
The HP cam works more in the high rep range.
hey guys,
I just bought a heritage 107 with a stage 2 with a Power cam. I'll be a little more specific with the mods.. Vance & hine Big shots (Full exhaust) , Screaming eagle Heavy Breather, maximus
6 pin, S/tailup power kit and the screaming eagle power cam kit. So i was under the impression that after doing the cam kit the bike would have to be put on the dyno and tuned, but the dealer (Based in Aus) said that there no need because the tuner was already programmed for the kit. if someone could give some advice who has under gone this process what they have done i would appreciate it
Please do a power cam review on a 2020 lowrider S!..no one has done it yet! Incredibly popular new bike!
S&S 475 please.
There is no videos on the power cam, because nobody does them, the torque cam is where its at especially with a touring bike, ie, RGS, SGS
Getting one today Denny's hd Springfield, mo. Woohoo!
Did you get a torque cam and is it worth it?
How much $ with labor?
Definitely worth it
Do i have to change exhaust on my 2022 glide
Is that the 255 E cam or what?
Can you tell me what would be the difference if I put power kit cam?
The power cam won’t give you as much of an increase in the torque numbers and may actually feel like a slight downgrade at low rpm. But when your revs start picking up the torque will start to come on and the horsepower will continue to climb into the higher rpms. So if you like to rev out your gears that’s where you will feel more performance and will likely end up with a higher top speed. But if you are riding through twisties and never really get the chance to be revving out your higher gears you might be better off with a torque cam.
Does the screamin’ eagle torque cam make the bike a lot louder ? I was really happy with the volume of stage 1. I got the S&S 475c cam and it’s so loud now it’s annoying. The change in volume is massive
I'm in the same boat, the aftermarket cam has made it way too loud for around my area. I'm also looking into the SE 447.
@@zook60 I switched from the 475c to the SE447 and I’m happy with it. It is a milder cam but the bike is still feeling much more responsive and full of life compared to stage one and it’s not as loud as the 475c.
Also I noticed it’s smoother at slow speeds, such as stop start traffic and car parks etc. I kept the stock headers and put Rinehart slip ons on
Thanks for the info, I have a 447 on the way. 👌@@Crowbar381
Sweet !!
do u need to upgrade the clutch or clutch springs at all after this kit ?
Would you recommend a torque cam as opposed to a power cam for a 114?
Yes
exhaust and mufflers... how did you fit both on?
Exhaust includes your headers, mufflers are just the tips. High flow Mufflers wont have the gains as a high flow exhaust. especially on touring models where there is a CAT built into the headers.
Trying to be a smartass and got treated.
That’s what I need.
Anybody know if they open the rocker boxs to install it?
No they do not open the top end.
@@dennism103 little late but thanks... I've already got it installed on my Anniversary Breakout
I would assume the base engine is a 107ci, you left that out?
It's the only engine in a softail street bob
Nope 110
@@elcamino5145 the 110? In a softail street bob?
Would you recommend going straight to a stage 3 and spending the 2500-3000 on that or do you think the stage 2 is plenty enough for the “around town” guys
???
stage 3 with labor is more like 4000.00 going from stock
Hey I did 1 then 2 no need to go past stage 2. Its insane how that performs. Stage 1 was impressive to I thought...
Stage 1&2 cost me about $1140. Which I thought was reasonable. Worth every penny guys...
Dennis Morris thanks - I’m thinking of doing this with a low rider
Can someone explain this to me; the graph shows the same performance until you rev past 3000 rpms. The only time you ever go past 3000 rpms is when you're racing. Nobody races.
Wow you must either ride really slowly everywhere or you always in too high a gear if you think riding above 3k rpm is racing 😂. Lugging the engine at constant low RPM also isnt good for the engine
@@leehan73 Well, I usually shift up at 2500 rpm, but with the new M8 I'm told 3000 rpm is probably better. However, the Harley owners manual suggest shifting a very low speeds (2nd to 3rd at 25 mi/hr). That seems too low to me. Either way, going above 3000 rpm to shift is juicing it, and the cam benefit doesn't even start until 3000 rpm.
So, to repeat, I don't get it.
@@tyroneshoelace4872 I'm coming from a 1200 Iron point of view so I suppose it probably Revs higher than the M8 but I rarely shift up below 3000 rpm once I'm out of first gear. The readline on an Evo sporty is at 6k so changing below 3k for me is way too low in the higher gears. Maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges though?
What engine? 107 or the 114, .... no mention?
107
Street bob only comes in a 107
what fairing is that
The Guy, it's a harley quater farring
100th comment... Get a stage 2, push it to 5,600 rpms. Got it!
not sure what I am looking at
my 2011 road glide with stock 103 thunder header, k&n and mr103 cam tts tune made 101hp and 120 tq. the numbers for this bike suck balls
Screamin shit more like it. So many better pipe and cam options other than SE
I nvr understood myself until I bought a new hd rkm8
Sooo the gains are in the power range never ridden in... 🙄
@eric williams You are right there - when most people see a Harley it'll be in town or in traffic on a highway. Both times when you are in a high (or higher than normal) gear trying to keep the noise down or just cruising. When you are out having a blast 3 to 5.5k revs is what you use and the bike looks to be much better there, but if you go the extra mile and modify your bike to over 120 bhp and torque then you really have fun in the first 3 or four gears.... fifth and sixth are then highway gears for saving on fuel. On the dyno, my twincam Streetbob (113 inch and so much more ! ) pulled over 170mph @6500rpm.... holding onto that would be nigh on impossible especially as I have 16 inch apes. Guys on sport bikes have the tool to go faster than that but where can they do it ? plus the things are so uncomfortable.....
@@thakery5720 have an 05 Road King wife and I road tripper, 18 Street bob with stage 1 daily rider, and mint 05 GSXR, 5K Miles..thinking of selling GSXR to put a little more performance in the street bob, with stage 2, it would have more HP than GSXR, and at almost 50 years old, not on the GSXR much any more, more of a novelty item.
@@russmode Good luck, having gone through lots of things on my 2010 Streetbob to increase the performance I found that there was a limiting factor that needs sorting out - get the heads ported. They do not support enough airflow as they come from the factory, not even enough for the standard cams. Sure you will notice an increase in performance with a cam change but once the negine gets to 4 - 4500 rpm then that increase will not be noticable.
Getting the heads ported makes all the difference otherwise you are wasteing money changing cams. This is even more true if you increase capacity by getting the cylinders bored out to increase capacity.... better still by the 110 cylinder kit, do the cams AND port the heads for a noticable difference.
P.S. I didn't see that your Streetbob is an M8..... I think the heads may still need attention though as the M8 engines don't rev as high when standard.... talk to a lot of people atReal tuning shops rather than just H-D dealerships - you pay a lot there and the extra 'bang for the buck' is never very good with 'authorised' developments !
Na.... I'l keep my Storm .
Harley's are surprisingly cheap to overhaul dont hesitate to buy one with high mileage.
So why does HD put such lame cams in their bikes? Is it to satisfy the EPA, up sale the customer later for increased revenue, or a bit of both?
That's what I suspected. Now if I can figure out if de-catting my pipes offers any real gains or just leave it in there. Got to have some back pressure for these M8 engines anyway.
@Mr. Happy Well, quite honestly, not too many people are, but there are a lot of uninformed people that remove it by a variety of ways. I've not found any evidence that its either needed or a good idea.
I thinks both
Ride what you like it’s your money don’t bash Harley
The last couple years ive bought 2 brand new harleys the first one was a mt rushmore streetglide and went with a stage one and the dealer dynoed it 7 times and they still could never get it to run right so i was pissed after spending 26.000 for a piece of junk !! So then i bought a new roadglide thought i would try that and 2 months later the computer goes out on it so they had to replace it thank god it was still under warranty !!! Where could i go get help after buying 2 lemons !!!!
. Sounds like inexperienced mechanics at that dealer ship... dont think for one minute, just because it's a dealer ship of any bicker brand our car dealerships. "have the best of the best mechanics." you have to ask other rider's who's the best around and some time's it may cost more or less. There's That old saying you get what you pay for..
Im a harley owner bought a new streetglide then went out and bought a brand new roadglide and both were lemons and had 2 call backs on both of them !!! Clutch and saddle bags !!! I dont know why i keep buying there pieces of shit !! I guess i keep hoping for a good one
This is the "Torque Cam"? The graph is showing more high-rpm power and hardly any torque gains below 3,000 RPM. I thought the "Torque Cam" was supposed to give torque gains below 3,500 RPM. Am I wrong?
Between,2500 too 3500. Power cam is much higher. Nice longer range with the stock and torque cams.
Wait till the customer finds out the performance they could've gotten for their money had they gone with something other than screaming eagle!
U go screaming eagle just for the 2yr warranty period,
yep i went with se cam just for the warranty and guess what i had a problem with my engine and if i would have had another cam in that bike shop would not have fixed the bent push rod for free.
It's the fkn epa is why ppl upgrade their harleys they are choked back so bad to pass emissions.
Can't notice 2 ft pounds.
It's not just the difference. It's the amount of time it holds up for. Fucking noob.
@@mr.b3168 you're mom's a noob. Isn't worth the money in the gains. Tool bag!

I guess I'm an idiot...I came here thinking that I will be shown what the stage 2 would involve and explained...
But...all I got from this was a pic of a graph as he talked...that looked like a kindergarten child attempting to draw a rainbow....made no sense at all to someone wanting to see a video to have it (explained)what is going on...Right?
I'm trying to figure out how these numbers are so low. I have a 2014 Ultra Limited with V&H duals, SE Intake and SE tune (so stage 1) and mine dyno'd at 92hp and 110ft-lbs of torque. so my smaller engine harley with only a stage One makes more power than a Milwaukee 8 107ci with a Stage II. I say save your money and buy a used 103 and build that. these Milwaukee's are a joke.
That's a cool one
And I'm first
Horrible numbers, my stage 1 hit 96 hp and 108 hp. S&S 2-1 and S&S breather... TTS Tuner
PATRIOT821000 dyno chart or it didn’t happen... lol
TTS tuner that’s what makes the difference. Maybe I missed what this bike was tuned with but if it’s HD, there’s the answer EPA
HD should just put this in stock. Its why I buy Japanese bikes.
we're all delighted for you

Cool, I ride an SV1000s, my wife rides 650 VStrom. Vtwins with power.
