Premium isn’t worth it yet. The classics available suuuuuck. But the second tier is awesome, lots of exclusives like demon souls remake and Spider-Man miles morales etc .
I was grandfathered into the Premium. I was one of the guys that bought PS Plus every time it was on sale for 30-40 USD. Im paid up until 2028. I also was subscribed to PS Now on a reoccurring payment. So Playstation threw me onto premium which still states my premium is paid up until 2028. Freaking awesome.
The extra tier is perfect for me it seems. I'm a "patient gamer" and always end up buying and playing games about a year after release or more - so getting a bunch of games I was gonna buy all at once for the price of upgrading is nice
I'm debating on getting Extra. While I understand the challenges of backwards compatibility for PS3 games, Premium is just not an option if I can't play classics locally. There's always going to be an uncontrollable and unpredictable latency. For this reason, I still keep around my classic PS3 console to play PS3 games or revisit ones I haven't played.
I did too, just to see how good it is until it lapses for me in March... but after just one day, I'm already disappointed. There isn't much there in the classic collection, and the cloud streaming is just awful even being on fiber here. Unless they bring more incentives to premium by next year, I can see myself downgrading to extra. I also already own all the heavy hitter offerings for PS5 on there, so really hoping they add more to it.
For now, I’m sticking with the Essential version. I have plenty of games from the free monthly selection that I am yet to play. When I was younger I always had Nintendo and the PS4 was my first PlayStation, so I don’t really get that nostalgia from the older games offered in Premium. But, once I finish all my current games, I might switch over to Extra. This was a very helpful video by the way! I’ve been wanting to see how the game library looks since Sony announced the new services, thanks Gameranx!
Yea I’ll be sticking with Essential as well. Extra seems nice but I own most of those games already so no need to get it and the review already explained the issue with Premium.
I got the top tier one but it only costs me $20 bucks to upgrade for 118 days. So that's worth it in my eyes. When i renew, ehhh ill definitely have to reevaluate
If metal gear solid, twisted metal, resident evil 1, silent hill amd a huge list of games I could go on forever with for the original ps1 I'd highly recommend playing them..obviously the graphics are going to look terrible but they are amazing games.. I still go back to play them every so often because I still have my original copies.
As a long-term Playstation owner, it does frustrate me how they have never cared about backwards compatibility or making more classic PS1/PS2/PSP games available to play. You only need to look at XBOX and they have a TONNE of games available in their back catalogue at no extra price, and they are reaching the point where the only games they cant add are due to licensing issues. Personally I believe there were some really cool games from the classic era that are way more fun than games released now (some obscure childhood favourites like Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc Scare Island and a heap of Spongebob games; some less obscure like Burnout 3 and Star Wars Racer Revenge). But until Playstation add a lot more variety in that regard, I think I'll buy the Extra Subscription because there are lots of PS3 titles in the list that I used to enjoy.
That’s the only part I’m disappointed in. I wanna play the good classic titles. These aren’t even titles I recognize. I want the old crash bandicoots from psp
After beating fallen order i wanted to play the force unleashed games but now because of this feature I can’t even play none of them. And not just the force unleashed, but revengeance, god of war are all behind a big pay wall that’s not worth even investing money to it
I browsed the library, and went with the Extra. Like you said, it has a solid selection, especially considering it's a launch setup. I'm avoiding Premium, since the Classics games are severely lacking, and streaming is a huge turnoff for me.
I'm definitely isn't worth it yet but the classics isn't the reason it's not worth it by any means it has a lot of the biggest classics AKA siphon filter resident evil wild arms etc I don't know what a lot of people on here were playing back on PS1 if they were playing PS1 and aren't just poser hipsters that are pretending like their gamers but it has a pretty big collection of the original PS1 classics. also if you guys haven't noticed when they say classics they pretty much mean PlayStation hits almost all of these games that were on that catalog where we released with the green spine AKA PlayStation classics.
@@Mothecary By "classics", I was referring to PS1/PS2 games. And by lacking, I mean an underwhelming selection. It's got both Dark Clouds, Ape Escapes, Wild Arms, sure. But it's only got one Resident Evil, none of Squares offerings, Konamis, Capcoms, and very little of the gems that launched the massive popularity of the Playstation. I myself was hoping to play some Parasite Eve, Metal Gear Solid, Breath of Fire, Parappa, Resident Evil 2&3, and maybe some lesser known gems like Shadow Hearts and Battle Arena Toshinden. That's what was lacking for most people.
@@rubynall80 oh I know you meant plastics by that I was talking about what Sony meant by classics their first lineup almost every game on that lineup was a PlayStation's hit Platinum hits back in the day had a green spine that's probably why it's so lacking the only went with their"classic" I too want metal gear. The resident evils would be nice though I mean having the original one is a huge godsend people should start at that one especially since the remakes of 2 and 3 were just trash people need a good reminder of what the old ones were because those were great.
I'm sticking with the 'Essential' tier for now. Going to be completely honest, I don't care about playing games that came out 15-25 years ago. I have limited time to game and just want to play the latest and greatest. Also, most of the PS4 and PS5 games that are offered are games that I've either already purchased or claimed via PS Plus. I'll see where the service is in a year and reassess.
It should be the latest and the greatest, not the latest and greatest. Some of the greatest gaming experiences are pretty much timeless. Newer stuff can be hit or miss and much less curated.
I like the classics they have on premium, but that selection is way too small. I feel like Sony kind of fumbled the release of the premium service by not having at least 30-40 decent psx games because there are so many good games on psx it felt kind of like they were uncertain of how much they wanted to invest themselves into the service which leads to some uncertainty among the potential subscribers. Hopefully they update the library which even if they could have opened with a lot of great games, it’s better late than never
In hindsight, they probably should have released this in stages... The 'Extra' tier first and then maybe the 'Premium' tier when they actually make it a premium tier...
I went with extra. It was only $20 to upgrade for my yearly subscription. For all the games available for only $20 extra this year and $40 over the course of a year, that’s definitely a great way to save on buying new games. Demons souls alone is more than $40 still
@@NoahSJ45 depends what subscription you buy. You can buy it monthly, every 3 months, or for a year. Buying it for the year will always be the best value.
Is miles morales included in the Extra tier? When i hover over the game before clicking on it says its extra but when i select it says to buy the premium tier in order to play….
I'm honestly shocked at the amount of good games offered for the 2nd tier. I bought my PS4 last year so I still need to catch up on some essentials. I think this was a good tactic to get people like me to subscribe, because I wasn't really interested in PS+ as it was before.
I believe the games will work like normal ps plus monthly games. So that means once you either add it to your library by way of the ps app or download from the new ps plus app on the ps4 it will stay in your library but will only be able to be played while you have a active ps plus membership.
So I'm a normal subscriber or essential as they put it. If I want to wait till black Friday sale to pick up the 2nd/3rd tier plus service at a discount will I be losing out on any of the current games catalog? Are games on a monthly rotation?
Before the pandemic, I played exclusively sports game and a little COD. I got ps plus in February 2020, because I wanted to play Madden with my brother and friends. Safe to say, my gaming knowledge was small My first free game was the bioshock collection for that month. Since then, I’ve branched out to different genres I’ve never touched before because of ps plus. This service, for me, is an absolute steal. I’ll be on the premium plan for 3 years with no charge. Looking forward to trying out more titles like RE and RDR2
I got premium because there were 8 games I saw right away that I had been wanting that weren’t available with the extra version, I think it was worth the $48, favorite so far is ghost of tsushima directors cut
@Yaajj ! I think far cry 3 and 4, fallout 4, last of us remastered, injustice 2, and ghost of tsushima are pretty mainstream. Other games I already had that are mainstream are rdr2, Spider-Man ps4, miles moralis, mk11 ultimate, Detroit become human, assassins creed Valhalla.
I went with premium because it was only $20 to upgrade for another 118 days. That's not bad at all. The selection does need improvement, especially since a lot of the best games on there have been given away as PS plus games in the past. Ill definitely reconsider once my subscription expires, but im excited for what's on there. Even just playing Miled Morales was worth the upgrade cost
@@texasbeast-_- you basically can download a town of games from every Playstation generation for free. The selection is meh at first if you've had PS plus, but there are also some good top tier games you get access too. Returnal, Miles Morales, Gardens of the Galaxy those alone are with the cost for sure. Some early Playstation games are streamed though. I played Toy Story 2 game and it's awesome but it's streamed and i could tell
Prob just a slip up, but you’re wrong about Stray, Jake! At the state of play, they said subscribers to either extra or premium tiers get it day one. Not just premium. It would be a major L if it was just premium because that’s going to be the least subbed to tier. Great vid as always, excited for the EU launch next month.
Definitely getting premium. It can only get better, this is just day 1 releases. They can only get better if we show support and the want/need for more and better games to the subscriptions. I'm excited overall
I'd more than likely get the Extra tier subscription, like you said, it sounds solid! But mostly, I hope they fix the whole "streaming only" issue for PS3 games. I was never able to afford that console so the possibility of having those games available for download on subscription had me salivating😆 Unfortunately, I don't have great internet service so that counts me out on the streaming. Here's hoping that Sony changes that requirement!
@@lekshuuuuu Nah I'm playing everything on mine. There are certain models that can't and can only install HEN but do your research. I bought the PS3 I'm playing now for $20, followed a 10 min yt vid and now I can play anything PS3 and older. Even Sega NES stuff
I am old, so I remember when PlayStation 3 was the system with the “free online” and I also remember when Plus was one of the first to offer high-quality free games. That’s not being like “well acksually” to modern gamers, just a fond memory.
I actually remember plus when it first launched too. I wouldn't say the early games that were offered were good. I remember it being small indie games with the very occasional big AAA release. Not saying it was bad back then but some of the offerings have indeed improved since. Paying just to play online still sucks though.
I'm older. I remember when the NES came out and you went into a shop and bought the whole game there and then, none of this Season Pass Deluxe Edition Ultimate Edition etc nonsense.
I would love for them to bring the twisted metal series to their new services. Whether it’s under the extra or premium. Those were absolutely awesome games. I know I’m not the only one who is a huge fan of the twisted metal series.
I think extra is good value as long as there are 3-4 big games on there that you haven't played yet. Personally I am considering getting it because I have yet to play Ghost of Tsushima, Guardians of the Galaxy and Returnal.
@@joshuaforan5939 Returnal is the only one I'm not 100% sold on tbh, but I'd give it a go if I got ps plus extra. I'm not a fan of extremely hard games.
@@zuokia lol NSO is easily the worst between GamePass, PS Plus, and NSO. The Switch is probably my favorite console of the three but it has terrible online features.
for those of you wondering where is the auto renewal on/off option, after the update, sony changed it to cancel subscription option, it's basically the same as auto renewal option, If you cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription, you will continue to have access to all of your PlayStation Plus subscription benefits until the end of any previously purchased subscription payment period. if you didn't cancel the subscription, it will continue the subs next payment circle automatically
Just out of the gate I want to play Demon Souls (I played the original so I didn't buy the new one), Returnal, Spiderman Miles Morales, Guardians of the Galaxy. I think those alone are worth the price for 1 year at least. And on top of that I will check other hidden gems that I don't already own. However, the Premium is a huge No-No for me. I wouldn't play those games even if they were for free. I didn't get a PS5 to play games I already played 25 years ago. Like they said in the video, Premium can be a huge turn off or turn on, depending on what the player is looking for. And for me it's a huge turn off
It’s perfect for newer players, or at least those that didn’t buy a significant number of released games. I own every big game in the game catalog, and the premium back catalog is not worth it right now.
The second tier, Is honestly worth it! as for the premium tier or the third tier as right now I don't believe it's really worth it until they come out with more classics. So maybe in the future but right now I'm just going to stick with the second tier or extra!
I got Premium, but that's because I was always interested in the ps3 games, missed a lot of that generation. You're absolutely correct about the thin classics library though.
@@Luhiner Yeah, that's how they get you and millions of other people to upgrade their monthly subscriptions for games that (at this point) are already past their peak and not generating much money for them. They increase their monthly revenue from subs by millions of dollars without lifting a finger, they just let a few interns spend a few hours repackaging their catalog and offerings.
The Extra tier seems like such a great value for any PS5 owner who doesn't own the big titles offered for it...but is that number really very high? I would imagine that most people who were able to get their hands on a PS5 during launch year probably have the games that are included. Demon's Souls, Returnal, the Spider-Man's, Ghost of Tsushima, Guardians, plus more...being able to play all that for $15 is some unbeatable value but I know I for one already own those games because it's pretty much all there is to play for PS exclusives on the new gen so far. For casual PS5 gamers who don't buy every new release this is probably an enticing deal. Also including the games in the PS Plus Collection in the Extra catalogue is kinda disingenuous, they're already available on the Essential tier
i didnt want to buy returnal and demon’s souls at launch so i was waiting for sales so the extra tier felt like a really good deal im gonna download them and play them after stray
@@almateur great choices 👍🏻 returnal is a game you can have on your storage and just boot up whenever you’re feeling some runs. Demon’s souls will give you a lot of replayability if you get into it

For a new owner of a sony console the extra tier is such a W, but for someone like me who owned one since 2015, the library is kinda outdated. Cuz I know what I like and already bought it a while ago.
Just got a ps5 and yeah I agree, being a new user the Second tier is great. I’ve wanted to play PS exclusive that I couldn’t on pc and I can now for only 100$ a year.
For those of us who have had PS+ for years, we already have most of the AAA titles or have purchased them. The games that we don't have would be cheaper purchasing them separately. Now I only have PS+ to be able to play online. The monthly games are not worth the price.
Precisely. I’m keeping Essentials until they make it worth my while to upgrade my subscription. I own all of the big games, minus holding my breath for a small discount to Forbidden West (but I’ll probably just cave and buy it before that happens).
I agree with ya there, I have both consoles and I only get base level psplus but get xbox ultimate because u dont even need to buy games at that point they give u so many free games that are new and relevant and not 3 random titles from 2yrs ago like playstation
@@knuclear200x Perhaps at some point in the future this would be less tongue-in-cheek, but yeah I own a ton of games and tend to buy them if I like them (such as on GamePass, I’ll shell out money for a game especially if it has DLC). There are some straggler games that I don’t own, but they also happen not to be on any of the subscription services.
The extra is good. I jumped in. It was $15 to upgrade my subscription plan for the rest of the year so for that I get to play returnAl, guardians, ffx remaster, a few racing titles, demon souls, etc. it would’ve cost a lot more than $15 to add them to my collection that’s for sure. However for me to be a continued subscriber I do hope they keep adding to the library frequently.
*Reminder!* There are games that have already a date to leave the system: Shadow Warrior 3 - 5th July. NBA 2k22 - 31th August Red Dead Redemption 2 - 20th september If you want to play this game using the Extra/Premium tier, be aware
I'm gonna do Extra but not premium for two big reasons: 1) The PS4 & PS5 games I get for the extra $5 or so a month are absolutely worth it (currently enthralled with Outer Wilds and looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima). 2) I have a jailbroken PS3 with a working disc drive, so I'm able to play most PS3 games (because discs are cheap on EBay or at retailer) and PS2 games (which can be played as ISO files ripped from the game disc - don't ask me how it works - I barely understand lol).
I do think that games pass is still better (currently idk about the future) but game pass has also been out longer and also with the amount of companies Microsoft has acquired in the past two year I think that really beefed up game pass even though it already had a great library. Around 2-3 years ago before me and my friends all switched to pc we rarely even bought games because game pass had so many and it also made it easier to get everyone to get into a specific game for a bit and just made it more accessible since none of us rlly had any money because we were like 13
Ps plus will always be last year's games. They have reiterated over and over they will not do day 1 releases. Game pass will always be better for that.
@@joshbrucks it depends on what type of games you prefere so there is no “better” service. I have both services at the time. I only get game pass when I want to try a game they are offering, but I often subscribe to ps plus for a year since I get it for low price. Over the years, I feel like I have gotten more value from ps plus with games like Nioh, FF7 remake, ps plus collection on ps5, etc. I have played some good games on game pass but only a few stand up such as ori and a few other indi games.
i still feel like game pass isn’t absolutely amazing. i had it about 11 month and got all the value possible for my tastes. Not knocking the xbox game pass. i will get the extra tier. i want to play 14 games on that so probably worth it. premium isn’t great at all yet
Like most people replying I have both and for day one I’d say it faired extremely well considering I never had ps now. They both do the job well, I was going to buy elden ring but hey now I don’t for a 33 dollar premium my account is set for 7 months.
@@cletokings4302 u clearly haven't been playing your game pass enough as all the games u mentioned were also free on game pass plus way more games of all varieties, literally the only things playstation has over xbox is its exclusives. What would make their premium really worthwhile, if they had localization of Japanese games that were never released in the United States in the premium section. That would make their premium a little bit more interesting.
@@Raven-nx3os if there were localized games like say a Sonic game or one of the most popular series of games that were never localized, you know, like the final fantasy games or something like that, may garner more interest and be worthwhile. It would give you a reason just like versions of games released for Korea or China that may have not been released to America.
Ill be honest, after the amount of effort that was seemingly put into this new service, do you really expect anything like that to happen? Cmon lol. They didnt even add trophies to everything. Like Jake said, for some peopel the repackaging is enough, but this is clearly not a service that is there to start trailblazing new subscription ideas like game pass was when it came out when it started adding Back Compat games monthly and added features like FPS Boost and Auto HDR. The fact Sony is gatekeeping random things for Premium tier feels like them trying to manufacture value bc the guidelines they set up werent enticing enough considering theres like no Classic games, which is a real shame. I would especially love more Japanese games on there, as its extremely lacking in that area
Tbh I remember most games I used to play on PS2 and PS3, and I understand nostalgia for many people, considering how much I loved Ratchet and Clank 3 and the Jak games. But I really didn't spend £500 to play games with 2005 graphics. I'm guessing I'll be staying on Plus extra and enjoy games that fully use the Ps5 hardware.
From all the videos discussing the new PlayStation Plus, I have not really heard much about how digital games we already own are being handled. For instance: I bought a ton of digital games (PS One, PS2, VITA, PS3) on both VITA and my PS3. So far, all the classic games that I have purchased previously (Tekken 2, JAK & Daxter games, Red Faction, etc) are not available for me to download. It does not seem to recognize that these are games I bought already. The game library also does not reflect this. I understand this is new, but I want to see everything I previously purchased, and if not now, I want to be able to download them at some point; I did buy them after all. I get Sony is looking to lock in subscribers, for steady money, but this is not sitting well with me. With all the games I've purchased, both the extra and premium tiers are not of value to me.
I’m mostly interested in how the PS1/2 game catalog is gonna develop over time. I always buy most of the new main titles, and have since I was old enough to buy games on my own. But I want to see games like legends of dragoon, Xenogears, xenosaga, vagrant story, star ocean second story, breath of fire dragon quarter, MGS1 and a host of other rpg classics from my childhood. Have no idea if any of these games will ever come to the service, but one can hope. Happy gaming!
If u rly wana play them and they aren’t added to ps plus, just buy a jailbroken ps3 for 100$ and install the ps2/1 games on computer and transfer over to the ps3 lmao.

I like how this explanation of the new PS Plus completely ignores PS Now, which was basically what the new PS Plus premium is but until last month you could subscribe separately. There's basically nothing new about this service beyond a slight overhaul in interface, selection and price structure.
Just wanted to clarify, Stray will be available for Extra and Premium. I think Jake misspoke whenever he was talking about it. Freaked me out for a second because I am currently happy with just having Extra. Can’t wait for July 19th 🐈⬛
More likely just didn't bother to research... I don't know where he got just Premium, but it's been pretty clear that it would be on all except for Essential. There were actually a few cringey moments in this video that suggests he really doesn't know PlayStation services that well. Oh well... that's fine.

Extra is the sweet spot, and what I subbed to. The next level up simply does not offer enough value. Extra is the closest thing to XB GamePass, which, btw, is excellent, and includes game-streaming. There are enough games I haven’t had the opportunity to play through, so it was right for me. The Premier tier feels like a bit of a cash grab.

Or do I have to get extra to get these games? If so do they come free or do I have to pay again to actually play them? 😭 I’m confused
My guess is that Sony really scrambled to catch up in terms of the subscription model that Xbox has right now. Reading through these comments, the only AMAZING thing everyone is saying about PS Plus is that existing PS plus members got a discount… I think most people will keep that Gamepass subscription…
To fix this up is really simple: 1- no streaming or a download option for all of them. I live in the Middle East and our net here is good, but I don’t want to see if its good enough for streaming. Some of you might say just try out psnow trail, but it needs credit card information. I remember way back when ps3 servers were hacked and people’s payment methods were exposed. I’d much rather stick to buying the ps cards from stores and using them on the ps store (which you can’t do with psnow.) 2- if they games have an enhanced version, just offer that. I actually didn’t know this was the case until you mentioned it in the video. 3- i own alot of ps4 games(not all of them), so it would be nice to have more options 4- if you don’t renew your ps+ or switch accounts for region locked purposes, then you loose all those games. I used to role with a Kuwaiti account but noticed that alot of games aren’t available in the stores so i made a British account. It’s way better but i lost access to all those monthly PS+ games I’ve been adding throughout the years. Now they’re in my library just taunting me. 5- if you buy anything using the PS+ discounts, then you can also loose them if you don’t renew with the original account region. So just remove that. I’ve paid for ps+ and i paid for the game too, so it should be mine and not some licensing bs. Thats about it, what do you guys think? Am i being a hater? Did i get some information wrong? If there is a loophole around the ps+ monthly games i would love to know it
I'll be sticking with 'Essential'. Most games on the other tiers I will have already played (especially ps3 and ps4 titles) if I really wanted to, so I think I'd just be paying for it and not actually gaining much. I also don't have a lot time for games compared to when I was younger, so having a huge library isn't even that appealing.
I'm pleased enough that they are trying to make progress instead of just keeping the same thing going. I had Now and Plus, and for the premium tier it's going to cost me close to $10 less per year. I didn't lose access to anything that I really wanted - I still buy physical copies of games I want to keep, and have my old Playstations that I can boot up when needed. I'm fine with this now, and will keep an eye on what they do in the upcoming year.
Do they not know what classic is? Ridge racer, crash bandicoot. THESE ARE CLASSICS. Not the trash they gave us. However the trials before buying the full game. That’s a genius idea. I’ve been wanting something like that for ages now. Good on them
I went premium, I figured Returnal was worth going extra, and I.Q. with the promise of more games to come pretty much sealed the deal. If this first year doesn't pan out in the long run I can always revert to a lower tier. I'm actually surprised how well the PS3 streaming has performed with my mid tier internet service.
As an Xbox/PC player, I just want to say that I am glad Playstation Players get something similar to Gamepass. Competition in this industry is good for us, the customers.
It’s a great value for some but I’ve already played like 90% of these games…one of the main reasons I keep game pass is for the new offerings(both AAA and more obscure titles)…there just doesn’t seem to be enough here for me to consider upgrading my PlayStation plus subscription at this time. Now, next month when Stray releases I will most definitely subscribe for at least a month 😏🐈⬛
Id just buy the game honestly, its only $27 and youll own it for more than a month. They need a lot more new releases to justify Premium for me imo, including first party new games
There's a couple like returnal which I want to try, but other than that I'm not really into these whole subscription service things. They end up costing loads over the years. I've already got a huge catalogue of digital games, & what another of people seem to be to lazy to do these days is actually go to your local games shop & buy second hand games. You can always make some money back from them later on when your done.
My brain broke when I saw Metal Gear Rising wouldn't be there. I passed it up because I never liked Raiden but all the Armstrong menes left me with so much remorse over that
Supposedly Sony is in early stages for going through with emulation for the PS3 games, they started hiring people to work on properly emulate and let people as well utilize download the digital version instead of streaming and use original discs as well, but it might be awhile till we see an announcement
they are still behind the ball following in Xbox's shadow now, behind on everything trying desperately to compete but so far has been utterly lack luster

Thank you for helping me decide which one I’m going to go for! It isn’t out in the UK yet but when it is, I’ve chosen to go for Extra. Premium isn’t worth it in my case because my internet speed is so poor (between 10-20mbps on a good day) and the classic games aren’t my thing, personally. I think there is great potential here and it’s early days so it will be interesting to see what it’s like in a year from now but for now I’ll be going for PS Plus Extra.
@@beeeeeesburyI think with Extra the games included are downloadable, Premium is the tier that has the streaming games to my knowledge, I think it’s the PS3 games that are stream only (again, I am not entirely sure but this is from what I gather). I remember having so many problems when I tried PlayStation Now! The stream only games were an absolute nightmare, the would just close all the time because of my poor connection 🙈
@@phantom-thief ah, shame we can't download ps3 games. (by the sound of it) I wanted to play red dead redemption on ps now, coincidently when the service ended lol. Honestly might borrow a friend's ps3 to play it instead, if it's stream only. Cheers for the help :)
@@beeeeeesbury very welcome, bud! Apologies I couldn’t help any further, it’s not out here until the 23rd so I’m not 100% on the details. But I think it’s the PS3 games that are stream only. Strangely enough, that’s the first game I tried on PS Now as I had always wanted to play the first RDR. It was just lagging and stuttering and the voices and picture were like 30 seconds apart from each other 😂🤣🙈 then it just crashed completely. I ended up picking it up on sale on my Xbox Series S really cheap but I barely touch it nowadays. I hope you can play it on your friends PS3! 🙂 I still need to play it sometime, just need to work on my ridiculous backlog of games 🙈
Paid 52ish$ to upgrade from my plus to premium. It’s well worth the money. I’m pretty sure we should be seeing more games come in next month. The only problem I have with is, the layout. Some stuff feels hidden, but overall, it was worth it.
I know what you mean. Some pages show games in a series spike into different places on the list, some just don’t show everything. But the tab all the way to the right seems to show everything in alphabetical order so I think you can find everything there.
Agree. Agree. Agree. It's just a matter of time - pretty sure they're working with the publishers/devs of the very old games (PS1 1996~ man...), but surely they'll come, like Armored Core :) Also Agree, they should fix the menus it's quite annoying haha
I upgraded to extra and I’m loving it right now. Great for the games I’ve been holding out on buying that I’m not sure on. Can’t wait to see how it evolves over the next year
So how does upgrading work? Before when it was PS Now I would have a year subscription to PS Plus, then sign onto PS Now for a month at a time. But now that it’s tied into PS Plus what happens when I want to upgrade and downgrade? Do you get a discounted price then your current month becomes upgraded? Do you pay full price for how ever many months and get them added onto your current subscription? Do they just bone you, charge full price upgrade a month, then not add any more time to your account?
I had pretty much the same vibes from this. I still think though that it’s a huge win for PlayStation to begin an offering like this . And In time hopefully we’ll see this expand into something even bigger . I did my reaction on my UA-cam channel .
To me the Extra was totally worth it, and I'm on a Deluxe region, so no PS3 games 😢 but the difference from Extra to Deluxe is only $10, so I went ahead and got the whole thing. If I can get at least 3 Classic games that I have fun with during the next year, then those 10 extra bucks would be justified.
@@Dopeskunk No 10 extra for the whole year. Deluxe is way cheaper (about 33%) than Premium, cuz of the whole lacking PS3 Streaming. So if for those 10 bucks I get 3 good classic games to have fun it was worth it. If I was on a Premium region I might have gone for it as well, cuz there are several PS3 titles on the catalog that I want to play. But sincerely the PS5 could play them with an update, and I have all my discs (some of them un played) so Premium should exist but with local play. And for everybody an update to the PS5 to play their owned PS3 games.
@@erdvilla Game streaming sucks on the platform though, and I have fiber... and it seems even more unstable than when I tried it a couple of years ago with PSNow. Wondering if it's because of the heavy traffic from the release of the new service, but it's janky as hell.
@@Emanouche That's why they should update the PS5 already to play locally downloaded and disc PS3 games. It might be because of the service launch. A bunch of people surely got the 1 month upgrade to try it out and they surely are downloading and streaming against the clock to make the most out of it. That's the reason why there are so many markets like mine without the Premium option, they don't have the server infrastructure to support it and the backlash from continuous bad service would hurt their image too much.
I honestly don’t like the streaming system since you have to rely on your internet connection to use it since it can result in lagging. I don’t know why PlayStation doesn’t just let us download the game like Xbox game pass does.
It’s definitely a step in the right direction. But what really separates Xbox GamePass is the titles available Day 1. I’ve probably saved 200+ dollars this last year because games I would have thought I’d have to buy for 60 bucks were included, not to mention the surprises I don’t even know about until I check the gamepass. Was planing on completely skipping Sniper Elite 5 but it’s free on gamepass day 1 so I gave it a shot.
Sony have been dragging their feet on going all-in and I wish they would. Their catalogue's amazing. Just take a risk and go for it. Why not? Their pockets aren't as deep as Microsoft but when it comes to the console market Playstation rules it. Wanna stay on top? Stop being chickenshits.
@@silvershocknicktail6638 they’ll especially fall behind when Microsoft expands game pass to other platforms including Apple and stick hardware; Microsoft is all-in on its service and consoles are only one means of facilitating it. Sony needs to be more aggressive if it wants to genuinely compete in this arena
My thoughts exactly. I don't think Sony is quite there yet and the content doesn't justify the cost. Sony is being stingy. I feel like the separate tiers is ridiculous and it should just be $60, $80 max for Playstation Plus all together. Players will feel like they are getting good value for their money.
I bought the premium version yesterday just to test it out as it was only $6 for the upgrade so that wasn't bad & I've enjoyed it so far honestly. can't wait to see what new games get added in the later months, but might change back to the extra idk yet.
Premium is gonna be a no go for me, the fact that they don't mention adding more games from the older systems (ex: the dbz Tenkaichi series, the original Dissidia games) means to me that they're not willing to add more to their list than just first party titles. I'll stick to the essentials tier until then.
@@tjcmoto5484 I play on PC and consoles equally. I pay subs on both. Not paying for stuff like GP and Playstation Plus just means you get to play less stuff than you would have otherwise at the cost of pocket change. Big L for you.
Extra seems the most enticing for me. Haven’t played Demons Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead 2, or Returnal yet, so this is great for those games. The classics selection isn’t that appealing to me at the moment, might upgrade further to Premium later on
Red dead is an amazing game take your time playing it though and play the online. What they have online is pretty good but they pretty much stopped updating it. But theres alot of fun things to do online.
Premium is just gonna get better same as extra. Stray is gonna come out straight to the premium ps plus. Also Ghost of Tsushima is SO good better than red dead redemption 2 anyday
I feel premium has a lot of games in the classic collection that I wouldn't bother hunting down and buying, and them adjusting the price for current PS Plus subscribers is a nice bonus. $30 for premium for the rest of the year is nice.
@@zkilla2924 I think you pay more the longer it takes for renewal and there is a cap on how much Sony charges. Guys in Japan were renewed until 2035 and they paid about $250 I believe.
I might be late to the party but I hope sony adds twisted metal ps3 one to play multiplayer in future for nostalgia. Thanks for the informative video again Jake.
Considering getting the Extra so I can play Demon's Souls on PS5. My upgrade would be like 20$ for the year and would give me a 70$ game. That alone seems like a good deal to me. I am interested in seeing what new games that are coming out will be available on this service though. I don't want to pay for it expecting to get something like GoT Ragnarok and then having to shell out 70$ still, but it is 20$ for the remainder of the year to upgrade, so I will probably do it anyway.
God of war will NOT be on it. Nothing new will release on it ever. They have said this repeatedly. There will be at least 6 months to a year before gow Ragnarok is on ps plus.
@@billscorner404 I've heard good things, and I will most likely give it a go as well. Trying to gauge how much time I have between games I am playing and new releases.
Personally I love the premium subscription. I do think it depends on your network connection regarding the streaming, but I am having a blast playing games from my childhood and even discovering some games I missed.
I've had PlayStation plus pretty much since day 1. it's had a few lapses here and there over the years, but I'd say I've gotten 90% of the free games in that time. I'll stick with the essential right now. Looking at the list of games offered on extra and premium, I already own most of those games through my basic long running subscription. I still have my PS3 and 4, so my only issue playing them is finding a damn dual shock 3
Try at thrift store my brother bought 1 except this is wireless lol, and no its not a ps4 controller cause I have ps3 4 and 5..and its pretty cheap too..I even saw Sega and Famicom controller and still in good condition..mostly Goodwill tho whenever I saw all these stuff..so try go there with just 10 bucks should be good
Or any 3rd party dual shock 3 will work fine, no need for a official one if you are gonna play once in a while, I'll also stick to essential, I don't have time for the extra ps4 & ps5 games with how busy I am these days and my sales backlog from ps+ discounts gives me enough variety that even extra does not have anyways
Extra is great, just $20 for the rest of the year and $100 for me all the way through 2025. Hell of a deal!! Edit: stray is free with extra too, you don't need premium
@@bbernstein145 no, they cap it for the first time depending on how long your current ps plus is. It's basically $10 for every 100 days and is capped at $100.
@@bbernstein145 so yea let's say someone had just bought a full year of ps plus, the upgrade to extra would only be about $36. And then after that it would be $100 every year
the good thing is that we're able to purchase some of the classic games separately, which is all I needed. If they can do that for most of the other games they add later down the line, I think everyone will be happy. those who want the subscription will be satisfied, and those who just want certain games would also be satisfied.
I feel it all depends on what type of gamer you are. Are you someone who plays every once in a while when you can or are you a die hard fan who loves to play the classics? If you don't play much, probably best to go with essential or extra, depending on how many more modern day games you care to have. I personally went with Premium, figuring it to be more bang for my buck since it's my favorite hobby/past time. But that was after checking what games would be available at launch, and for my taste, I thought it was awesome, so I didn't mind spending the money to get the yearly subscription. Honestly, couldn't have asked for a better upgrade to the subscription service then this one.
They way I look at it... I buy a game for 50 bucks and get disappointed... wasnr quite what I was looking for. Now for 40 dollers on top I get to try 400 games and find what gels.
I thought heavenly sword on the ps3 was incredible when it came out, graphically and I loved the gameplay. I guess others thought it wasn't as its never been re-released! I was kindve hoping to see it in one of the lists, but no, maybe it will come later
I just recall it feeling like a God of war clone (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) and it only being like 5-10 hours long. I think I enjoyed it but ultimately it was forgettable and the short playtime was super disappointing.
I've been a PS+ subscriber since the early days so I already have a lot of the games in the Extra tier already, but there are still some that are good enough to probably get me to make the switch. It's definitely good value for someone that doesn't have that back catalogue though.
sooo...did you jump in? what do you think? it's a decent start but we'd love to see more

Shadow of the Colossus, Bloodborne, and Demons Souls alone have me sold. The rest of the catalogue is just a bonus lol.

Do u get the games to keep after subscribing to it ?
The Ps3 and Ps2 had Backwards Compatibility
That’s the only part I’m disappointed in. I wanna play the good classic titles. These aren’t even titles I recognize. I want the old crash bandicoots from psp
They need to get all the licensing to put the games there and it's only the launch I'm pretty sure that there gonnaput more just gotta wait
Don't you have to stream ps3 games?
After beating fallen order i wanted to play the force unleashed games but now because of this feature I can’t even play none of them. And not just the force unleashed, but revengeance, god of war are all behind a big pay wall that’s not worth even investing money to it
I browsed the library, and went with the Extra. Like you said, it has a solid selection, especially considering it's a launch setup. I'm avoiding Premium, since the Classics games are severely lacking, and streaming is a huge turnoff for me.
Yeah there's really no point to it, right now anyway. I had plus and psnow so I got it automatically and eh, it's not the greatest yet.
Quantity of quality huh?
It should be the latest and the greatest, not the latest and greatest. Some of the greatest gaming experiences are pretty much timeless. Newer stuff can be hit or miss and much less curated.
Au revoir. See you June next year.

Definitely getting premium. It can only get better, this is just day 1 releases. They can only get better if we show support and the want/need for more and better games to the subscriptions. I'm excited overall
@@madgirlist ah, neat! Not sure why I thought it was July, but I’ll happily take it next week lol
U could just buy the PS3 now for like $20, install CFW, and play whatever u want for free....
Buy a ps3 for like 120$ on ebay with 2 controllers and like 10 games lol. Then mod it to play anything.
You can only mod it to 9.0 which means you cant play the latest games though right?
The streaming works surprisingly well for me, with below average internet speeds.
That doesn't make you old. I remember when the internet was created for regular people.
I actually remember plus when it first launched too. I wouldn't say the early games that were offered were good. I remember it being small indie games with the very occasional big AAA release. Not saying it was bad back then but some of the offerings have indeed improved since. Paying just to play online still sucks though.
im old enough to remember the Great PSN Outage, when PSN was down for like 35 days or something.
I'm older. I remember when the NES came out and you went into a shop and bought the whole game there and then, none of this Season Pass Deluxe Edition Ultimate Edition etc nonsense.

Definitely needs to be added!
Twisted Metal Black would make my day. I remember tricking my grandparents into getting it for me when I was like 12 years old lol
I think extra is good value as long as there are 3-4 big games on there that you haven't played yet. Personally I am considering getting it because I have yet to play Ghost of Tsushima, Guardians of the Galaxy and Returnal.

Extra tier is definitely worth it. So many games on there I’ve always wanted to play.
And for me it's a huge turn off
Facts!
It’s perfect for newer players, or at least those that didn’t buy a significant number of released games. I own every big game in the game catalog, and the premium back catalog is not worth it right now.

@@skollgaming5139 yup. Just the ones in the extra tier… if you want Ps3 games to play, those are only available via cloud streaming at the moment .
The second tier, Is honestly worth it! as for the premium tier or the third tier as right now I don't believe it's really worth it until they come out with more classics. So maybe in the future but right now I'm just going to stick with the second tier or extra!
that's the trick. They make 3 choices to make you feel that the one in the middle is a good deal. That is the real plan that they're selling
I’m gonna wait a few months until they hopefully get a better lineup for the games with Extra so I can save money
I got Premium, but that's because I was always interested in the ps3 games, missed a lot of that generation. You're absolutely correct about the thin classics library though.
@@Somatisandro but it's definitely a good deal for a lot of people including me
@@Luhiner Yeah, that's how they get you and millions of other people to upgrade their monthly subscriptions for games that (at this point) are already past their peak and not generating much money for them.

For a new owner of a sony console the extra tier is such a W, but for someone like me who owned one since 2015, the library is kinda outdated. Cuz I know what I like and already bought it a while ago.
This exactly I owned all of it except Toukiden which I was literally about to buy lol

@@the_flushjackson Yeah i buy games too. I can't always wait THAT long for it to be "free anyway", and ive been burned before
The extra is good.

*Reminder!*
There are games that have already a date to leave the system:
Shadow Warrior 3 - 5th July.
NBA 2k22 - 31th August
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 20th september
If you want to play this game using the Extra/Premium tier, be aware
I already owned all of these games
Good to know, thank you. Can you point me to a website that can keep track of this stuff easily?
I'm gonna do Extra but not premium for two big reasons:
1) The PS4 & PS5 games I get for the extra $5 or so a month are absolutely worth it (currently enthralled with Outer Wilds and looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima).

Only a few would play them
@@Raven-nx3os if there were localized games like say a Sonic game or one of the most popular series of games that were never localized, you know, like the final fantasy games or something like that, may garner more interest and be worthwhile. But I really didn't spend £500 to play games with 2005 graphics. I'm guessing I'll be staying on Plus extra and enjoy games that fully use the Ps5 hardware.
Except that a lot of them are just the PS4 versions, unfortunately
Reading through these comments, the only AMAZING thing everyone is saying about PS Plus is that existing PS plus members got a discount… I think most people will keep that Gamepass subscription…
How do we get the 60 dollar plus plan I hate how they changed everything up
Game pass is mid af had the same poo put games on there for years it only benefits certain players like myself
To fix this up is really simple:
1- no streaming or a download option for all of them. I live in the Middle East and our net here is good, but I don’t want to see if its good enough for streaming. Some of you might say just try out psnow trail, but it needs credit card information. I remember way back when ps3 servers were hacked and people’s payment methods were exposed. I’d much rather stick to buying the ps cards from stores and using them on the ps store (which you can’t do with psnow.)
2- if they games have an enhanced version, just offer that. I actually didn’t know this was the case until you mentioned it in the video.
3- i own alot of ps4 games(not all of them), so it would be nice to have more options
4- if you don’t renew your ps+ or switch accounts for region locked purposes, then you loose all those games.
Also the library is about 25% those free games of the month you've gotten over the years
@@sauceyreject5371 Exactly that!

@Yaajj ! who cares
@Yaajj ! it really is overpriced. and for the guy asking who cares... the costumers care
@@PantsaBear yeah,if they're only gonna have new releases on premium they better make it worth it,but being Sony I know its not gonna happen.
There's a couple like returnal which I want to try, but other than that I'm not really into these whole subscription service things. They end up costing loads over the years. I've already got a huge catalogue of digital games, & what another of people seem to be to lazy to do these days is actually go to your local games shop & buy second hand games. You can always make some money back from them later on when your done.
returnal is worth it alone
The Premium tier is missing huge titles like Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, and the list goes on.
My brain broke when I saw Metal Gear Rising wouldn't be there. I passed it up because I never liked Raiden but all the Armstrong menes left me with so much remorse over that
I upgraded to Extra since 6 of the games on my wishlist were part of the subscription. Probably gonna stay on this tier for a while.
It would be epic if you could play all Ps1, PS2 and Ps3 games! All of them!
When you pay for the premium one!
Supposedly Sony is in early stages for going through with emulation for the PS3 games, they started hiring people to work on properly emulate and let people as well utilize download the digital version instead of streaming and use original discs as well, but it might be awhile till we see an announcement
This is comforting to hear, the service will improve, but it'll take a couple years till then
That's sorry af
If they enable playing PS3 discs on PS5, that's literally all I want. I still have my entire PS3 disc collection.
they are still behind the ball following in Xbox's shadow now, behind on everything trying desperately to compete but so far has been utterly lack luster

Do you get to download all the extra tier games or is it streaming? My wifi isn't good enough to stream atm
@@phantom-thief what does stream game mean???
Paid 52ish$ to upgrade from my plus to premium. It’s well worth the money. I’m pretty sure we should be seeing more games come in next month. The only problem I have with is, the layout. Some stuff feels hidden, but overall, it was worth it.
I know what you mean. Some pages show games in a series spike into different places on the list, some just don’t show everything. But the tab all the way to the right seems to show everything in alphabetical order so I think you can find everything there.
ps3 games are definitely hidden
@@gameschadwick thanks for that tip
@@florez5871 no problem. The tab is also just called “games” so it’s simple too. Way simpler than their genre sections tab.
Agree. Agree. Agree.
It's just a matter of time - pretty sure they're working with the publishers/devs of the very old games (PS1 1996~ man...), but surely they'll come, like Armored Core :)
Also Agree, they should fix the menus it's quite annoying haha
As a Series X owner who recently bought a PS5 this video was incredibly helpful.
I upgraded to extra and I’m loving it right now. Great for the games I’ve been holding out on buying that I’m not sure on. Can’t wait to see how it evolves over the next year
I like the premium as well 😃
So how does upgrading work? Before when it was PS Now I would have a year subscription to PS Plus, then sign onto PS Now for a month at a time. But now that it’s tied into PS Plus what happens when I want to upgrade and downgrade? Do you get a discounted price then your current month becomes upgraded? Do you pay full price for how ever many months and get them added onto your current subscription? Do they just bone you, charge full price upgrade a month, then not add any more time to your account?
@@dennestheeggplant I just see an upgrade option that's there in the ps plus menu.
do games expire from the library or do they just stay there as long as you have the extra
@@aethersshepard6081 if you downloaded them on OG ps plus you should have them
I had pretty much the same vibes from this.
I mean it would be ten extra dollars a month, so 120 dollars over the year,
@@Dopeskunk No 10 extra for the whole year.
@@erdvilla yeah never mind I'm an idiot haha I completely misread the pricing
I'll stick with the original tier 1 for now but I'm certain once more games release then tier 2 will be worth it.
You gave it a slow motion x-ray shot?
@@caenir well thats just overthinking it🤣
@@silvershocknicktail6638 they’ll especially fall behind when Microsoft expands game pass to other platforms including Apple and stick hardware; Microsoft is all-in on its service and consoles are only one means of facilitating it.
€120 to play old games for only a year.
Jailbroken PS3: “Hello there old friend”
Not only that, but there's only like 20 of them lol. It's a fucking joke.
Stray is not just free for premium, its also free for PS extra subscribers as well
I bought the premium version yesterday just to test it out as it was only $6 for the upgrade so that wasn't bad & I've enjoyed it so far honestly. can't wait to see what new games get added in the later months, but might change back to the extra idk yet.
why was it only 6 dollars?
@@platonicbuu7454 he probably have a couple of months left on his renewal.

Great job explaining this. There’s too much going on with this. I wish what you get was more straightforward and not so confusing!
Definitely need more ps1,2 and psp games for premium
I was looking for max Payne and maybe underground 2?😫
First thing, dont buy until price is at most $9.99 a month for premuim and should include Crunchyroll and Sony movies for streaming.
Premium is gonna be a no go for me, the fact that they don't mention adding more games from the older systems (ex: the dbz Tenkaichi series, the original Dissidia games) means to me that they're not willing to add more to their list than just first party titles. I'll stick to the essentials tier until then.
After switching to pc and not having to pay any subscriptions for gaming I don’t think I ever will.
You will likely never see a re-release of the Tenkaichi series. Like ever. It would take a legitimate miracle.
@@tjcmoto5484 I play on PC and consoles equally. I pay subs on both. Not paying for stuff like GP and Playstation Plus just means you get to play less stuff than you would have otherwise at the cost of pocket change.
Big L for you.
They said that they’d be adding games to all tiers every 3 weeks
Extra seems the most enticing for me. Haven’t played Demons Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead 2, or Returnal yet, so this is great for those games. The classics selection isn’t that appealing to me at the moment, might upgrade further to Premium later on
Red dead is an amazing game take your time playing it though and play the online. What they have online is pretty good but they pretty much stopped updating it. But theres alot of fun things to do online.
U r very lucky u have sum great games to be played
Btw if u subscribed u got to play those games for free?
@@saloumasaleck3697 depending on the subscription yes
Premium is just gonna get better same as extra. Stray is gonna come out straight to the premium ps plus. Also Ghost of Tsushima is SO good better than red dead redemption 2 anyday
I feel premium has a lot of games in the classic collection that I wouldn't bother hunting down and buying, and them adjusting the price for current PS Plus subscribers is a nice bonus. $30 for premium for the rest of the year is nice.
My ps plus renewed June 6th so I had to pay another $60
Weird i had 114 days left on my subscription and i only payed $18 i wonder how the pricing works
@@zkilla2924 I think you pay more the longer it takes for renewal and there is a cap on how much Sony charges. Guys in Japan were renewed until 2035 and they paid about $250 I believe.
They need to add the metal gear games, specifically the hd remasters of 2 and 3. Never played 1 either so that one too
Konami needs to get of there lazy asses and port the legacy collection on ps5
I might be late to the party but I hope sony adds twisted metal ps3 one to play multiplayer in future for nostalgia. Thanks for the informative video again Jake.
If they add the toy story 3 video game to the classics library than I’m instantly gonna cop it, that game was my childhood.
@@joshbrucks As they should imo.
Returnal is also very worth playing.
@@billscorner404 I second this

I've had PlayStation plus pretty much since day 1. it's had a few lapses here and there over the years, but I'd say I've gotten 90% of the free games in that time.
I'll stick with the essential right now. Looking at the list of games offered on extra and premium, I already own most of those games through my basic long running subscription. I still have my PS3 and 4, so my only issue playing them is finding a damn dual shock 3
Yeah same 💯💯💯
Try at thrift store my brother bought 1 except this is wireless lol, and no its not a ps4 controller cause I have ps3 4 and 5..and its pretty cheap too..I even saw Sega and Famicom controller and still in good condition..mostly Goodwill tho whenever I saw all these stuff..so try go there with just 10 bucks should be good
You can use a DS4 on PS3
Ps4 controllers can connect to a ps3 with the charger
Or any 3rd party dual shock 3 will work fine, no need for a official one if you are gonna play once in a while, I'll also stick to essential, I don't have time for the extra ps4 & ps5 games with how busy I am these days and my sales backlog from ps+ discounts gives me enough variety that even extra does not have anyways
Essential is the best for me
Extra is great, just $20 for the rest of the year and $100 for me all the way through 2025. Hell of a deal!! Edit: stray is free with extra too, you don't need premium
How did you get it through 2025 for $100? Isn’t it $100 for the year?
Sucks bc if you have lower tier they still make you pay full price to upgrade....
@@DiseasedOmelette word. What was girl's name? Nariko? Yeah. I remember Sony trying to push her as a new mascot for like a year and a half.
I've been a PS+ subscriber since the early days so I already have a lot of the games in the Extra tier already, but there are still some that are good enough to probably get me to make the switch. It's definitely good value for someone that doesn't have that back catalogue though.
