little tip to add at the beginning part when building a house: you can press CTRL when placing the walls & it will automatically fill in all the space within the blocks without going outside. also, workbench counts as a "table" for an NPC to move into your home, so you can just make a chair and set it next to the workbench to save on resources in early game :3
I haven’t played terraria in literally years but I got back into it yesterday and I played for 5 hours straight without even realizing it it was one of the best times I’ve had gaming in a long time

So I know the guide is generally hated but you didn't mention the function he performs that was by far the most helpful thing for me as a new player to learn the game: the crafting recipe function where you can see ALL the recipes any material can be used in. There are far more materials than there is space in your inventory so when you don't know what you can make it's incredibly helpful.

I wish that the team had ported over the tutorial world from console and mobile into desktop. Even though you're left on your own building a house to survive the night, it was a great way to learn the basics.
4:10 I would strongly disagree. In 1.4 they added SO MUCH new dialogue that helps you progress. You may not like him, he may be pretty useless for advanced players but it can be insanely helpful for begginers Great video! I always appreciate your content
Agreed! The guide is very helpful for figuring out what you can craft in the game without always needing to have the wiki brought up, which I suspect for mobile gamers is a nice thing, not to mention that switch users (when it finally updates for us) might be playing it on the go outside of a wifi bubble. He might be an idiot for letting zombies in, but damn is he knowledgeable!
Agreed! Also being able to check crafting recipes without hsving look at the wiki is super useful, and that's from someone with around 1500 hours. You never remember everything, and its a good thing to not have to grind more then necessary, also finding "new" recipes you forgot happens every now and then.
I'm going to use this comment to mention some things that I personally think required more explaining. -for the house any backwall that the player placed counts and you can actually leave gaps but they have to be extremely small. The house has a minimum size of 60 tiles². The requirements are a light source (it doesn't have to be a torch) a furniture that counts as a "flat surface" (it doesn't have to be a table) and a piece of furniture for resting like a chair, a bed or a toilet. -the guide is not completely useless. He has the crafting guide where you give him an item and he tells you what you can craft with it and where, that's a great way to discover new items. You can also give him a water bottle to discover all the different potions you can make. -the help button on the guide gives hints on what to do next to progress, the idea experienced players have about the guide being useless is because the hints were outdated before 1.4 and because we already know all that. -accesories that show information below the mini map also work in the inventory. -health potions have a 60 second cooldown so use them carefully. -there are 4 classes of weapons: melee, ranged, magic and summoner. Each one has it's playstyle and subclasses and you can combine them however you want. But I personally find it more enjoyable to focus on one. You can see the class of the weapon by what they say in the damage (for example the wooden bow says 8 *ranged* damage) -high defense might look appealing, but survival in terraria is based on avoiding damage altogether, so prioritize damage and movement above anything else. -every weapon has strengths and weaknesses, try different weapons in different situations to know what works best.
@@ariffiskandar3477 Does it really matter? As long as people are trying it out and possibly enjoying it, it's all good! Better than mindlessly hating on Terraria like certain Minecraft players.
This game holds much love and nostalgia to me, because I remember playing it with my stepbrother and sister all the time when we were younger. There was a time when the three of us played split screen on the ol 360, and it’s kinda making me tear up. One time we were trying to kill WOF and they both died and I finished him off with my mini shark at one HP. I miss what life used to be 😪😪😞
Same. I don't play it for the last 5 years or so, but when I did, I would play it all day long and had one of the best times of my entire life. Too bad it's all in the past now..
I just love how time and time again the world forged itself to become the perfect tutorial world by showing off all the basics as soon as it was convenient to show, like you found so many chests on the way down, you found gems, then a house, then a heart crystal (it's not often all this happens at once), it's like all the stars aligned and if I was a newbie watching this, then I would be hooked, by this video alone :)
Finally even know I’m a modern warfare UA-camr I still enjoy some terraria,I can’t tell u how long I’ve been waiting for this update to come over to console.I’m so exited ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I love how everyone hates on the Guide xD I still use him when i forget recipes. I guess I had a different come-up with him though because i didn't have internet when i first played Terraria (Ocram days) so the Guide was my saving grace lol
Honestly, on my first play through, I lasted about 20 minutes without the wiki, which I continued to use along with a UA-cam guide for my class (magic). It really sucks how terraria isnt that fun without knowing what you want to get and how to get it. Before I used the wiki, I pretty much got full platinum, beat eye of Cthulhu, and then had no idea what to do from there. I feel like the game has way too much depth for someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, for example, how would someone know that they need an arena for every boss fight? How in the world would someone figure out how to spawn Wof by themself? How would I know to destroy demon altars to get hardmode ores? It just seems too complicated for someone to figure out themself
I totally forgot about crafting suspicious looking eyes lol. I never do it. I always just find them or wait for him to spawn naturally lol. Love the video. Would love to see an entire playthrough just like this. Maybe cut out the mundane stuff.

I’m such a noob. I left the guide far away from me and made a home elsewhere on the beginning area of the map and I find myself getting killed a lot, especially at night. This is very helpful.
Surprised there's no mention of the guide's crafting help. He can tell you everything that can be made with an item, and what station and other mats you need. That's absolutely worth it so you don't have to flip to the wiki any time you find a new thing, and since we don't have recipe browser on 1.4 yet, I'd say the guide is critical. I keep him in the house nearest my crafting area every playthrough
Good job Chippy, Although I am a veteran in this game I love your guide, I am glad that you make this guide for the newest, because when you are new you never know what to do first or how to start, you did a very good job
Last time i played was before moon lord and cultists and all that. I think plantera was the highest boss maybe? So i need to refresh. This video is helpful, as always, chippy!
I never realized you had to fill the background completely. Usually after the people move in there's holes in my background and the NPC's don't seem to care. Good info to have, very nice video.
When I first start, I was so confused as it my first time playing a game like this. Lucky for me I had my younger brother to help me with the basics and when I was confused he answered my questions like what is the this underground brick structure (the lizahard temple) and why can't I go in it. It was a long journey but by the time I beat golem (used the Piranha gun because felt it was op). Then did a playthrough with my little brother and by the time that happened, Expert mode was released.
I remember playing terraria with my friends on split screen on my 360 it was so much fun, as i grew up I noticed that that console had a lesser like version compared to pc version at the time and it had wayy less stuff..Then when when console got that big update that pretty much got had everything pc had and ive been playing ever since

This comment section and the video helped me alot since im new to terraria. Also im a minecraft player who thought terraria was similiar to minecraft so it should be easy to learn but I was so wrong
Something useful that the guide actually does is show you what items in your inventory can be crafted into and which crafting station you need to do so. Ya know, in case you don't wanna open a wiki (the far superior option).

Of the Terraria guides on UA-cam I watched, I felt yours was definitely better than others, possibly even the best. Just bought the game yesterday and of the several I’ve watched, yours is much better at explaining what you should do when you’re just starting. The other people had their videos jumping all over or were not super clear with their instructions. Thank you for the time you put into this! Appreciate the help 👍🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🖖🏽
IMHO true and main beginner tip is to organize the hotbar with weapons, dirt/wood, torches and teach newcomers how to QUICKLY wall themselves in for safety, build jumping steps with dirt, and other essential new game survival tips.
Can you make a more intermediate guide that help people who have already played the game adjust to the new update, because it's a pretty jarring change.
My kids been playing the game for years. I went to have a go and had no idea what I was doing and was surprised that there was no tutorial. So went to UA-cam and found your video. Great intro into the game

Thanks for the guide man, i used to played this game like what 5 years ago lol, and i forget about like everything, and this video just refresh my memory about this game basic
I’m trying to learn the game so would it be better to play along with UA-cam tutorials and a walkthrough/guide or just explore the game on my own without much outside help?
Me, who knows Chippy mostly from playing Among Us with the Yogscast, randomly clicking this video after deciding to get back into Terraria after several years: "Wait a minute, I know that voice" XD (I knew Chippy did Terraria stuff but never really watched Terraria vids back when I played).
Any mobile players that are here just remember that summoner, magic, and ranged are going to be the best weapons to use, melee is incredibly difficult to use on mobile.
just started playing this game. found the accessory that lets me gather rope from vines. its reeeeally useful so far. maybe not later, but right now i have sooooo much rope. my tunnels are just layered with cargo nets for me to climb around on. this was especially helpful since it took me a day of playing to realize what how the wooden platforms are different from normal wood 😅. either way. vines ropes - 👌👍
I dug straight down from spawn until I hit a mushroom cave; I stumbled across a Shroomcart in one of its chests. I continued to dig down until I found a railway extending unbroken across almost 1/3 of the map. Digging random staircases can be fun.
im a beginner at terraria, and i love this guide so much. the way he says "yeah its really cool!" makes this guide sound even more beginner friendly. subbing rn :)

It was a long journey but by the time I beat golem (used the Piranha gun because felt it was op). Then did a playthrough with my little brother and by the time that happened, Expert mode was released.
Just started playing tonight on my series x but started in the tutorial first and this video was more helpful,
Im not a begginer, but chippy uploads, I click.
True
How old are you?
I remember playing terraria with my friends on split screen on my 360 it was so much fun, as i grew up I noticed that that console had a lesser like version compared to pc version at the time and it had wayy less stuff..Then when when console got that big update that pretty much got had everything pc had and ive been playing ever since
I have 500 hours in game and even I learned something new! Nice vid Chippy!
Thanks man, im new to terraria!
Most of the experienced people that i asked wpuld just say "you will figure it out" or they will just troll me, so this really help me!
Best Terraria tutorial. Thanks Chippy for this. I will refer to this when I start from scratch when I get my PS5.
i really like how he didnt have to add music. the music is terraria is exquisite itself. thank for the this guide because i really needed it
This man really said that Terraria is "built different".

2 august 2024, watching this at 3am, haven't played or Watched Terraria in awhile but back then I used to play it and be deeper in this, this video was really cool and really does explain things very well, thank you, I might get into playing it
I love Chippy's content so much I don't even skip the sponsorship, like I normally do in different videos.
Dude I’ve been playing terraria for absolute years but I watched this the whole way through, wholesome asf, takes me back for sure, nice
I’m sending this to my new friend i’m gonna start a Console 1.4 playthrough with when it drops :) love ya chippy
Lord this could’ve helped a couple years ago, all I did was walk in the over world and I was confused how people got these magic items and how they were fighting bosses, I didn’t even think of watching a guide
Hey, thanks for making this simple little guide. I've felt really dumb playing this game and this actually helped quite a lot. :)
This is pretty helpful. I've tried getting into terraria for YEARS at this point, but there's just so much content in the game that I've always felt super overwhelmed
Thank you so much for this guide! When I started, I had no idea what to do, but look at me now! I'm rockin' in solar flare amour, and having beaten the game!
Thank you bud. I just started playing because i liked it, but i was struggling and trying not to get frustrated, i knew i just had to keep going till i get it. But still i was struggling. I wanted help with as little help as possible.
I wish this video existed when I started playing Terraria...
Little Tip: Platforms count as a door for NPC homes so you could just have a tower and have 2 tiles of the floot as platforms and have no doors so you NPC dont escale and open up doors.
Thanks for this guild I recently started playing for the first time and this was really helpful.(wiki is also a big help)
Thanks for all theses tips, the shift key is my best friend now.
And thanks for not spoiling stuff! Best video and most useful i've watch so far.
I went in blind when I started playing and chose a large world because "why would I want anything smaller than max"
I learned my lesson
wasting 20 years trying to find hermes boots underground 💀
Definitely continue the guide series. It’s well out together and fun to watch
This comment section and the video helped me alot since im new to terraria. Also im a minecraft player who thought terraria was similiar to minecraft so it should be easy to learn but I was so wrong
Please do continue this series. I’ve played terraria some here and there still a noob and this video was helpful.
Awesome, I cant wait to play Terraria with any problem on my ps4, master mode, and keyboard!!
Something useful that the guide actually does is show you what items in your inventory can be crafted into and which crafting station you need to do so.
Ya know, in case you don't wanna open a wiki (the far superior option).
I’m not NEW to the game… I’m just really bad at it!
I just watched an almost 30 minutes long video of a game I've never heard of and I really like it
To everyone the update has brought here:
Stick around, Chippy is a legend :)
Thanks for the tutorial, i play once on PC but very difficult to start, and now i can play it again on my xbox series x after watching this video
Ima send this to my friend, we were just talking about me teaching her how to play terraria
thanks, i’m new to the game and i was so confused
I'm imagining Chippy smiling as he records this video. His voice sure sounds like he does for some reason.
True lol
chippygamings guide is god sent .First time i played i hated how i didnt know what was happening and quit till i found your video this random video that yt auto play gave me made me wanna give it another try i watched the video and got in to the game finally beating it to the point that master mode is a must for any play through i even moved on to modding which i played but i myself could not get into making then i met some people nd after some persuation i convinced them to play with me base and modded and now we are all trying to make our own mods its your video that made the dominos fall thank you
Me with 2000 hours, watching a beginners guide...
There’s always some tiny detail you didnt realise lol
Do you play RL?
@@haribo_42 for me i didn't learn anything new
@@xyphon.9528 Yeah?
@@monke1295 Shut.
The guide is also good for learning what materials are used in and the crafting station you need
After trying to start the game about 20 times with no tutorial, I was going to delete it and go back to Minecraft. You saved the day! (And game!)
😎👍
Bro literally same, until I met a really good friend who explained everything and now I'm stacked and addicted to the game. He's really cool.
When he hovered over the recall potion i was really expecting him to say: And the sponsor of todays video is the recall potion
for some reason
IMHO true and main beginner tip is to organize the hotbar with weapons, dirt/wood, torches and teach newcomers how to QUICKLY wall themselves in for safety, build jumping steps with dirt, and other essential new game survival tips.
have 1,500 hours in terraria
still going to watch the beginners guide because it's chippy so i know it's a good video
I'm new to the game and you made the basics a lot easier, I am hoping for some more tutorial videos
Can you make a more intermediate guide that help people who have already played the game adjust to the new update, because it's a pretty jarring change.
My kids been playing the game for years. I went to have a go and had no idea what I was doing and was surprised that there was no tutorial. So went to UA-cam and found your video. Great intro into the game
me: hey, go into that dungeon place, you can get some really good stuff in there
friend: there is a guy standing outside telling me that i can't go in
me: just ignore him, ill be down in a few minutes
friend: ok, oh i see a gold chest ill go get i.. AHHHHHHHHH
friend 2: was that really necessary
me: its tradition
😂😂😂😂😂 it’s tradition for sure
i fucking did this to myself
I played this game with my friend about a year ago. To be quite honest, I had no idea what was going on. My friend just played a lot and I did t. I occasionally fought bosses but now I’ve came back to the game and actually want to play. Thanks for the quick refresher 👍
POV me watching this video 6 days before 2024 Ö
after 7 years of playing mc and switching to terraria after a while (i played back in 2016)
this helps out a lot! refreshes most things
Clam your "your a veteran but you still watched the video" ticket here
Never knew that 2 years ago the typo is still here
Thanks for the guide man, i used to played this game like what 5 years ago lol, and i forget about like everything, and this video just refresh my memory about this game basic
My next 30 minutes are sorted
I’m trying to learn the game so would it be better to play along with UA-cam tutorials and a walkthrough/guide or just explore the game on my own without much outside help?
My guide was mostly my friend giving me advice, being the P R O G A M E R that he is
Thanks so much i was actually confused how i build a door, well now i know | im a new player dont blame me
i rarely watch guides on youtube because its kinda hard for me to understand it but this one had my eyes and ears
Me, who knows Chippy mostly from playing Among Us with the Yogscast, randomly clicking this video after deciding to get back into Terraria after several years: "Wait a minute, I know that voice" XD (I knew Chippy did Terraria stuff but never really watched Terraria vids back when I played).
chippy: now we got a bucket what do we do with a bucket?
me a minecraft player: u get wa-
chippy: you slap it onto your head
The beginning is so true starting a world and using the wiki is so helpful!!!!! I just search up builds from the start to the end and use the wiki to help me create those end game builds or beginning game builds I end up beating the game quick.
Just started playing Terraria three days ago because it's the only game my friend and I can both play. I've played minecraft for nine years so, needless to say, I was a bit confused and overwhelmed. I like that the game doesn't hold your hand, but there were some things that I wasn't quite getting! Super helpful video!!
Sounded like a little cousin showing me their favorite game
