@@spotydog22 there is certainly that aspect. "Well curated" takes time and effort, and it's fine if the prices reflect that. :-) The only thing is, if it's made out that "vintage" is for the thrifty shopper on a budget- well, only if you had a lucky find in a charity shop. In _Doris' shop_, you are buying _art_. :-) Though the $200 for a wedding dress was an affordable option ... but that's the one I didn't like at all! ;-)
The King's Daughter over recent years there has become a definite distinction between ‘thrift’ and ‘vintage’, the days of coming across something stunning in a charity shop are long gone. Donated items are checked, and researched before possibly making it to the shop floor, anything ‘special’ is then put to one side and advertised in order to increase the amount of money raised.
David DiGenova - Yes, I found Doris's voice and cadence here very genuine, reflective and lovely to listen to. She exuded happy vibes handling, and explaining, the features and fabric of each garment.
The Edwardian Irish crochet dress is so stunning. It looks straight out of the recent collection of Alexander McQueen (which I think was inspired by Irish crochet). Like that dress perfectly embodies the vintage-ness of clothes: romantic, nostalgic and yet still feel very modern.
I wish I could be young again and could do my wedding day over . I would do things so differently . If only I could have my young slim body , porcelain skin and long brown hair back for just a day. I was so hard on myself back then. I was married in 1995 when puffy sleeves and big bows were in style. Next month I’ll be married for 25 years .and I don’t know where the time has gone. I enjoyed this video so much . The dresses are all so lovely.
This is my first time watching one of your videos. I'm 81, so you can imagine why I resonate with these classic looks! I plan on checking out your web site! Thanks so much!
The Edwardian dress is gorgeous. I worked in bridal in the 80s. There was a company called Susan Lane's Country Elegance that made gowns in that style. They were beautiful. The peekaboo bodice of the Malcolm Starr is fabulous. The 90s museum piece has gorgeous lace. Reminiscent of watteau. The Juliet dress! The 70s boho! You're killing me here. The cotton lace table cloth with pants. I love it. The wax pearl headpiece reminds me of the pieces the store got from Mexico. I worked in CA and we did a lot of ethnic weddings and Quinceneras. I love the lattice work yoke of the McFadden. Fortuni pleats need to come back. I also like what you are wearing. I just discovered your channel. Subscribing.
What I love about your channel is that I feel like I'm right there in your store and you're giving me a private tour of all your most precious items. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪🍀 Love your channel ♥️
Oh, the 'Juliet' dress, it's so beautiful! Thank you for your videos. It is lovely to hear someone talk about and have an appreciation for quality fabrics and designs. I am waiting for my retirement in a year's time, to take up design and dressmaking again; I so miss all the hours I spent in my youth creating original garments for myself, before the children came along. You are cementing my desire to get fabulously creating! Thank you! 💕💕
I absolutely am in love with your channel. I love your knowledge. I am totally vintage. Please keep educating us. I especially love your videos about the fashion jewelry of the old Hollywood. Great channel!!!!
Lovely picks. I appreciate how thoughtful and kind you are in your descriptions. I have a question, or possibly an idea for another episode. Doris, would you please address vintage lingerie , especially nylon nightgowns and bed jackets? Thanks!
Doris, this was as glam as casual wedding wear could be, love the Raphaelites gown and the 90’s gown. In such great shape. Maybe one day by youngest daughter will come to find her gown. Vintage is her life!
Doris, thank you so much for creating another delightful program. Your selection of creative wedding dress ideas is just what my spirits needed to distract me from cabin fever. I'm drooling over the Mary McFadden, Donald Deal and the dreamy Edwardian show stopper. In all the periods and styles you've covered in your programs, one thing is abundantly clear, you have a keen eye for timeless original design. Another excellent presentation. Thank you so much, I appreciate all you do.
I've been looking for a wedding dress, and bridal fashion right now is so... identical. I would love a dress that is classic and with a higher neckline. Thank you for showcasing pieces and giving me the push to find a vintage gown!
My favorites were the Grecian gown and the Edwardian gown. I loved the 'Juliet' dress but would prefer a lower neckline. I found a beautiful Monsoon slip dress made from white linen some years ago. It has a lace trim at the top and round the bottom. It was brand new and I got it in a charity shop for £6. It would be perfect for a special occasion or a wedding.
I love the Lanvin piece (2nd dress shown). It's so natural, so elegant and yet so fun. I didnt realize there could be such variety in wedding dresses! Thanks for the informative video.
these are beautiful. My favourite is the de la Renta gold lace gown! Love being able to get designer at low prices! I have been binge watching "Say Yes to the Dress" and honestly I would not want to spend 2 month's salary on a dress I can only really wear ONCE! I wish that 1) there were more vintage shops where I'm from, and that 2) they came in sizes that fit me :( I'm short (5") and considered plus-size (like a UK 14? so the "smaller" end of the spectrum). While it's not too hard to find clothes I feel good in, it also means a lot of fashion is "closed off" to me just because of size. Looking through the website, many of the gorgeous dresses are too tall/ slim for me.
I just love that you're doing these videos Doris! I kept re-watching the clips from your show.... Your taste is obviously impeccable, and its really fun to see all the amazing pieces of art. I love the vintage tags!
Love your videos so much! I always find myself drooling over the elegant and unique clothing you show. Thank you for taking the time to post on UA-cam. 🙂
Thank you for the video Ms. Doris. I'm very excited every time you post new videos. Hope you feature anything you have related to men's wear. God bless.
Thanks Doris for your love of vintage and for sharing it with us. I collect vintage wedding attire (as well as other vintage🤣) and have even scored a 1930’s piece which is me favorite. Keep up the great work. Please know that whatever you show is interesting and always a showstopper 🌸❤️
I am SO happy to see this channel! I've watched the forckstars episodes dozens of times but it's so nice to see new and fresh content from you. -Especially without the reality tv "filter" and storylines.- Thank you for continuing to be a wonderful source of inspiration and education.

Charmaine Eng Bless you , I feel sorry that you think UK cater to plus size people , people who live here think it’s pretty rubbish lol 😝. It must be horrendous in your country then ?! America seems a lot better , though I’m sure people from there , don’t think that either . 🥺 My dream is plus size Vintage . 😢
@@juliewilson3237 oh! No its more that I am more likely to find clothes in my size in the UK compared to back home. It's not quite horrendous but options (esp for dresses) do become limited as sizes run on the smaller side. I have solved this problem somewhat by adopting a "uniform". I buy black work slacks from M&S and blouses from Uniqlo. And for casual wear, t shirts and wrap skirts. Not very exciting, but easy.
I spent the better part of the 80s looking for plus size vintage. Overall there were not many fashionable options for young women sizes above 16 until around 1980. Larger clothes were styled for older women. Try vintage style reproduction- get the look but not the hassle.
Thank you. I love your show, and your price points - a beautiful vintage garment for all budgets. Please show more couture inside finishing sewinngs, Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you for gracing my life with design excellence, your vision, curiosity, intellectual and sensual understanding of clothes and beautiful presence.Blessings to all on your team
A wonderful episode. I loved it so much. It reminded me of my wedding in 1978. I did not want a traditional dress but my mother in law surprised me the day before the wedding and offered me her wedding dress of the fifties. It was wonderful and even if a little too big for me I think it looked good on me. At auction I recently saw an old Valentino wedding dress for only 400 Euros ( total with commission 500) unsold. What a pity.
All of them were beautiful... BUT the first 2 pieces on the rack and the last.... absolutely out of the park gorgeous!! Thank you so much this was great fun!
My husband's grandmothers both wore champaign pink gowns when they married in the 1930's, and I understand that pink liquid satin dresses where the height of fashion in the 1930's. My own grandmother wore a navy blue suit in 1940 because it was wartime and white fabric wasn't available for love or money. I asked her if she was sad she couldn't wear a white dress and paraphrasing what she said to me, "I wanted to marry your grandfather, not the dress, so no, it didn't bother me at all."
Your vids let my mind fly all over history in the variety of all of the styles. And, the way you present them is soothing. You always make my day better, and I thank you for that.
I love how you think of people with lower budgets. There is no snobbery at all and that is lovely.
I will say, though, that the price tags in her boutique are usually still out of my range. The cost of vintage pieces has risen significantly.
It is a lot of work to find quality vintage so i always take into account peoples time

I would like a Doris’s favorite pieces in her own closet ! Because she dresses so fabulously and has amazing shoes 😍
Uuhhh that an amazing idea.....!!!! Yes doris you should...

Email her. She said in this video UA-cam questions they can’t get to but they read emails.
I love when people were unusual wedding dresses! It is such a chic and fashion forward statement!❤❤❤❤❤
