It's a pleasure to see you so happy. Your enthusiasm is contagious and makes you shine. The most valuable thing we have in this world is the time that never comes back. Being able to watch the time in a unique and desired time piece is something that I enjoy and share with you and it is synonymous with health and well-being. My short term desired watch it's a BOCCIA 3586-01 Medium Term desired watch: HAMILTON KHAKI H70575733 Long term desired watch... (titanium of course) looks like submariner, maybe TUDOR. ROLEX SUBMARINER is my favorite but Rolex does not manufacture titanium watches...
What a beautifully meaningful and profound comment Andrea, I am rather speechless. Thank you sir. As for your goals, LOVE THEM. As for the long term, go for the Pelagos, you will not be sorry! Best regards, TGV
The reference of that AP ends in BA because is freaking BAD ASS. That is a real watch. Maybe the only watch a man could ever need and definitely a heritage piece, something you can leave to your decendants for ages to come.
+ The Urban Gentry I love the case of the AP alot. I don't know if my grail watch exists:(. I am looking for a watch with a gold case, white/ cream dial, 38-40mm case, Blue hands and blue Romans or stripes (like the omega seamaster). As a complication, I prefer it to be simple and incorporate the date complication in a creative way. The closest watch that fits the description is the breguet marine 5817BA/12/9V8 (gold case blue Hands and numbers). I am not a big fan of the lugs and the side of the case. Love the dial! Do you know if my grail watch exists?
My short term goal was a Tag Heuer for my birthday and I did it in this month :) I bought an automatic Aquaracer on Chrono24. Great! I love your show, thank you.
I have to say that after hundreds of videos I have begun to love my watches and have my own passion with my own watch identity because of your inevitably contagious love of watches. Thank you for your depth and genuine love and care for sharing your love of watches. It afforded me to find my place in the world of watches. You are amazingly spot on with your advice and have found that I similarly feel like you do about may watches. Please keep it up. I’ve share the Gentry with so many people who now find the, selves buying watches. It’s fantastic. Thank you again. Sterling king
Such a classy choice! Funny enough, I just achieved my first grail the same time you got your first Trinity. As of two days ago I became the owner of a 1954 Omega Seamaster, my first Swiss piece. Absolutely loving it and I hope you get as much joy from your AP as I am from my Seamaster. Best regards, Jordan
A man walks into doctor's office. "What seems to be the problem?" asks the doc. "It's ... um ... well ... I have five penises." replies the man. "Blimey!" says the doctor, "How do your trousers fit?" "Like a glove." The late, great Tommy Cooper
Haha, I adore Tommy Cooper, so sad how he past away. There was a great documentary on him I saw when I was in the UK over xmas. Thank you for sharing that :D Best regards, TGV
I've been a big fan of your videos for 3 years now, and I 'm genuinely glad to see a smile on your face while you're opening this beauty. You deserve it !!! I'm sending best wishes from Poland.
When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life. "Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." - Samuel Johnson Boswell and Johnson were discussing whether or not Boswell's affection for London would wear thin should he choose to live there, as opposed to the zest he felt on his occasional visits. (Boswell lived in Scotland, and visited only periodically. Some people are surprised to learn that Boswell and Johnson were far from inseparable over the last twenty years of Johnson's life, the period Boswell knew him.) This discussion happened on September 20, 1777, and Johnson, someone who hated to spend time alone, was always going out and enjoying what London had to offer.
Wow, great looking classic. Love the recessed day/date. And it's always a blast to vitness you unboxing - it's like watching my kids unpacking at christmas :) I'm still saving for the Alpinist, got a racing bike addiction to feed as well. My grail watch is the Grand Seiko.
Congratulations on your AP and welcome to the club! Brand, model, and size were wise choices and one of the best "value for money" that you can get. Although in the back of our minds one may consider Patek number 1, you would have paid a huge premium for the brand and not the watch itself. Now, be ready to pay dearly for its service (I guess you already started spending money on it because you will need a new exclusive winder).
This is probably somewhere else in the comments, but i'll comment anyway.... The quotation is from Samuel Johnson, and is part of a discussion with Boswell who lived in Scotland. Boswell was wondering if moving to London would reduce the affection he felt for the city should he relocate there. Johnson, famed for his love of London is said to have replied, "Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." Anyway, glad you had a good holiday, nice to see you back :)
TGV, I must thank you for making this channel and sharing your thoughts on beautiful horological timepieces. I purchased a Tag Heuer Aquaracer earlier this year to celebrate my engagement while traveling in Italy. Soon after, I stumbled on your channel and I have purchased a Squalematic 60 atmos and the Sinn 104 along with numerous Seikos. I have had to buy a bigger box to store my watches and it is all thanks to you for sparking my interest. Excellent purchase! It is stunning and blends perfectly with your personality. “Always buy what you like and not because someone else likes it” is what I have gained from you. Happy new year. Congrats and I look forward to gain newer insights into horology. Cheers, my friend.
Hi TGV! It’s good to know you had a save journey home. My congratulations to your first Holy Trinity watch. I have to smile when I saw your pure joy about the AP! 😉 I myself still contemplating about the Zenith El Primero Original 1969 (03.2150.400/69.C713). One of the few chronographs I like. And a birth year watch would be a nice addition as well... Best regards, Claus
What a pleasure seeing you so excited over your first Holy Trinity watch. You'll never forget the feeling of your first! You'll set your sights on the other two soon enough, in the meantime there's no better feeling than what you're experiencing right now. Wear that gorgeous timepiece in good health and preserve it for the next generation.
Have I yet told you that I love your reactions to your watches? That AP is simply remarkable! You should be proud (and indeed, I am convinced that you are)! I have been looking at the Patek Calatrava, personally. So delightfully understated, and it just looks so soft and minimalist. That AP though... definitely the perfect opera watch! Wear it with pride, and enjoy!
I knocked out two of my short term goals still working on my third. The first goal was a skx007 then a nighthawk i think i want a sun and moon from orient for my third short term. Long term maybe a squale 1521 i would be happy with that as my small collection. 😁
Excellent choice, TGV! I was also unaware that AP made pieces like this but that does suit you perfectly. One of the classiest APs I've ever seen. Enjoy it! Goals for the year: Buy ONLY 3 watches 😂 I want to upgrade and downsize the collection. I bought an Alpinist for the new year so I only have two left. After last year's frenzy of flipping around 12-15 watches, I need a break.
Short term: my first automatics are in the mail! SNK807 and SNZG11. Medium: expand the collection, add a nice dress watch. Still very affordable perhaps Tissot or Orient. Long term: I haven't thought that far ahead. There's a lovely blue, limited edition Sinn 103 that I adore.
I couldn't stop smiling watching you unbox that darling! I did not know that AP did anything in that timeless style. As for my Holy Trinity goals, I actually believe I don't need one. I'll be one of the happiest men alive if I could achieve all three of my long-running watch goals! So, my watch goals as of 2018: Long term (5 years): Oris Big Crown Complication moonphase 38mm Medium term (1-2 years): Junghans Max Bill manual wind 35mm/automatic 38mm Grail (probably 10+ years!): Jaeger LeCoultre Master Control Calendar 2002 moonphase 37mm
Wow! You should be "chuffed to bits" with that AP - what a stunning little watch. Well done. Don't you DARE put it on a NATO! Too bad it doesn't have a display back as I bet the movement is very pretty. The Breguet would probably have been my choice but this one you got is a beauty! I was thinking you were going for VC. As for the sport watches I do admit to liking both the Nautilus and the Royal Oak (but only the simple 3 hand models of each). I've handled a RO in person and it was a beautiful watch! Ciao, John
LOL have no fear, my nato straps are going nowhere near it! I really did try and look for a VC, you are right, but the AP just kept calling me back, can you blame me? Thank you John, what is next for you old chap? Best regards, TGV
I've only just got into watch collecting seriously after collecting on and off for years and then subsequently found your channel. I love your content, great work. Your new watch btw is breathtakingly beautiful. Such a good choice, I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come.
Thank you for sharing this with us. You've inspired this young man to pursue watch collecting. Short Term: Seiko SMY042 Mid Term: Frederique Constant FC-705WR4S6 Long Term: Omega Seamaster P.O.
The dial balance is great! I love having a sweeping centre seconds but looking at it now, a seconds hand would have made it too busy. They really got the proportions perfect. It's 33mm but still has presence. Great new addition TGV!
Really enjoyed the London Video…short term…putting a Milgauss in rotation with my beloved Date Just daily wearer and long term finally restoring a B W Raymond , Elgin RR6 and Bulova Railroad 214
As so many have mentioned, it's a pleasure to witness your unbridled enthusiasm & passion pouring through on this "momentous" unboxing. Especially enjoyed the detailed explanation of your rationale and preferences. I'm chuffed to bits for you too. Be well, good sir! Cheers to a splendid & adventurous 2018, TGV. Cheers, Doug 👍⌚👍 Short term - FC Slimline (proper dress) [done] Mid-term - upgraded Horween Leather straps and dress textured Natos for many pieces lacking in my rotation. [2 of 7 done] Long-term - Speedy Reduced
Hello Congratulations on your new AP. I love your channel. Can't stop watching it. I know you apologized for being vulgar (stating what you paid for it) but by talking price range of watches in general you have helped me acquire watches that I wouldn't have been able to buy without saving longer, or were thought to be out of my price range. Also love it when you talk about reputable online watch dealers as it gives me some trusted options to go to.
As I have said in previous videos many times, if it was to include German brands too, I totally agree. Thank you Philip, great to have so many like minded among the gentry! Best regards, TGV
This was a fabulous watch.... the video and the actual watch! I’ve been following your Chanel and others for a long time but have never commented on any before. This made me reply. This is such a joy to see. I love the passion, the enthusiasm, and the delight you take in talking watches. Well done. I love it! Sitting her in the UK watching this, starts me dreaming of dress watches. I’ve had Rolex GMT’s, and currently have Tudor Black Bay, and IWC pilot. UTC . I need and want a dress watch next. Leaning towards JLC reverso Grand ( various models)....but the small diameter round design of yours is making me rethink. Keep up the good work!
Fine to see you again , Sir. Back in the good old war room. Finally you got the moonface. It's great to see yor delight. Thank you for sharing this. It makes me feel with you. Thank you for this. You made my day.
Happy new year to you two. Nice watch mate! Congratulations. Really an amazing timepiece. Acheron is my favorite of the big tree but others have their beauties as well. I found out that I really like sport/utility watches rather than classic ones but still appreciate quite a few for multiple reasons.
Looks to be a great choice sir! A gorgeous watch for sure. Congrats on your new addition offcourse.. The part about the Pateks confused me a bit though.. I mean: surely you know beforhand they would all be out of range :$ Keep them coming! I enjoy the video's very mucho ps: I think you ought to review the Seiko SLA017 62MAS tribute? :)
Thank you sir! To be completely honest, Patek pricing has never been an interest to me to keep up with. I merely go by what I "like", and sadly that tends to be on the pricey side. I believe it was important to include this as despite being vulgar to talk about price, it is important and it gives a better context to the value of my AP and the reasoning behind my decision. I hope that is clear, Best regards, TGV
Hi there TGV :) yes it is indeed a good addition to the video to break down your though process :) A pricey taste.. I can relate to that ;) Kind regards from the Netherlands
Congratulations TGV, I can tell you’re absolutely chuffed to bits! The AP is perfect. Speedy Reduced is interesting, I’m also debating one currently. Also fancy a Glycine Combat Sub with the red bezel at some point this year! Best regards, Luke
I got to thank you. I bought my fiance an engagement ring. She told me to choose a watch since its tradition to buy a watch in return. I had no idea what awaited me. I am so happy I discovered this channel. I will go for the Seiko baby snowflake. I know its not the best watch under $1000. But thanks to you I learned that It's not about value or to impress other people. It's about how it feels, I will definitely buy the grand Seiko snowflake ones I start making enough money. I will move on from there I will continue to watch your videos for guidance thank you very much. Keep making videos, we are all watching.
Your passion for horology is infectious. I am new collector at 24 years. After careful thought and many hours of research and learning I have purchased a Seiko SKX009J1 and an SNKN37 to start my collection. Thanks sharing and inspiring such great passion about watches good sir! P.S I'm eyeballing a Diver Tudor or possible a Sinn for the new Year, time to save up!
A great start to 2018. Congratulations on your latest acquisition.Coincidentally, I have had my eye on the JLC master ultra thin moon phase which is quite nice. Short term - Laco Pilot Medium term - Sinn 104 (if I can justify the price) Long term - Omega Speedmaster Professional To be honest I might just save up and buy the Speedmaster Professional as the sole purchase instead of the other two. However the Breitling Colt volcano Black is nice so could be a bit of a tug of war between the two.
Wow, what a stunner! Congratulations on the major milestone of watch collecting (Holy Trinity addition) Tristano! Wear it in good health my friend. It is nothing but pure class!! Best, Matt H.
T, you're definitely your own man! Greatly appreciate your candor regarding the Patek Nautilus...heresy to some, but I respect a man who doesn't always go with the crowd and tells it how he sees it. Gorgeous AP, as well, too small for me, but after seeing this video I think I'd wear it anyway!
Newly addicted to watches... I've had several kinetic Seikos but your channel has opened up a whole new world and now I'm truly infatuated. My wife is looking at me a little odd these days. Just bought myself a Seiko Samurai SRPB051 and I'm still agonizing over what to get next... there are so many! If I have to pick three.... short - SKX007 (because I love Seikos and I really want a full collection one day... including a Grand Seiko spring drive!) medium - torn between the Glycine Combat Sub and Squale-matic! long GMT Master II!!! Thank you so much for sharing your passion!
Congrats on your gorgeous AP ! Your channel has been my ticket into the world of horology and I have to thank you for creating this community and videos! Would you ever consider doing a watch talk for women's watches? Or maybe more specifically smaller sized watches - 40mm is also large for me and I'm finding it more difficult to discover my entry-level with my favorite size a 31mm watch! Thank you again!
I do believe that is the actual watch I linked to in your original video when you spoke of wanting one of the Holy Trinity. Someone was selling it for 5500USD. Tell me I'm right TGV!
Wow that's incredible that spread of tiers at the end of the video: you delighted us with all those potential haute Horologories candidates from the Holy trinity into the $ 1000's ands 1000's and all of a sudden you switch to the more than to earth speedy and immediately after and everyday relatively cheap and colorful Casio, that is why your Channel format is a winner cause you cover the whole spectrum, cheers.
Congratulations on the AP. That is a very handsome watch! I just got into watches in 2017, after a lifetime of Swatches (I still love them) and fashion watches. But as I begin married life, I find I have little disposable income for watches. After amassing a modest collection of a 1969 Bulova Sea King, a vintage Glycine field watch, a 1969 Seiko Lord Matic, a Swatch Jelly Fish, a Casio calculator watch, my old G-Shock from the early 90s, and my trio of modern Seikos, the SKX, an Alpinist and a SARB033 in just 6 months of collecting, I feel like I will have to slow down, save money for travel and fun activities with my wife, and hold off on adding to my collection. I feel I have a perfectly rounded collection now, especially with my limited budget. If I do get a watch this year, I think I'll be saving up for something a little higher end, but just one watch. Perhaps a vintage Tudor Datejust, or a Speedie, or my first chronograph, or if I can stretch it with my saving, a vintage Rolex Datejust. But it's time to slow down.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your selection Raymond, you sir have class. Superbly good taste, thank you for sharing and I hope they all become a reality. Best regards, TGV
I was grinning away like an idiot while watching this at work because I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! That AP couldn't possibly be more perfect for you! That watch is TGV!!! Congratulations on such a momentous achievement and may you stay chuffed to bits with it and form many fond memories with it in the future!
Thanks for that Urb's, we've finally made contact! Enjoy it in good health. Lovely watch, esp from the Royal Oak obsessives. If i ever get the VC PC 85180 i might shove a camera at it, one day.......
Thank you, sir. I now made it my goal to save enough to buy this watch in 2-3 years time! Beautiful watch. I'm shocked at how affordable it is. Cheers.
Even though a lot of guys are giving you shit for this being a ladies watch, I don't think they understand that you are a smaller guy and watch size is about proportionality, not one size fits all. I personally don't think a 36-40 mil watch would be 'too big' on you but it would also be far more expensive if you wanted to go for this type of timepiece. I'm sure there are plenty of challenges to being under average size as a male, but being able to get discounts on high end watches seems to be one of the perks. The haters should stop hating and just be happy they get to see this fabulous watch up close. It really is a nice watch, but for someone like me, it is also definitely too small. I'm currently saving up for a Lange 1 Timezone in platinum, wich is probably one of my top 3 favorite watches of all time :)
Grats, TGV! I'm not the biggest fan of gold anything on a watch, but man that is absolutely gorgeous with the gold moon and stars! Great choice with the AP! Long Term Goal: Undecided. Medium Term Goal: A Sinn 358 Flieger SA. Short Term Goal: Keeping and loving my Citizen PCAT AT4010-50E. :D
You can tell you`re over the moon with that watch and for good reason, what a beauty it is! Really do love the deep blue with contacting gold stars and moon.. wow. Thanks to you I have the SKX013 and just received a gshock gw-m5610 and that will do me over for a while! Grail = Reverso. Thanks for the hard work and welcome back to this side of the pond :P
What interests me with watches is that beauty is in the eye of the owner. A piece I might love, may generate the polar opposite response in someone else. You love it, you earned the money for it, buy what ever rocks your boat !
Very nice watch. I must say, I am not into gold that much and the smaller than 38mm don't work with my wrist but love the complications on it! It is a very elegant piece! As a long term I got my Zenith El Primero Skeleton Chronomaster last year. This year I started with an Oris Pro Pilot Calibre 111 and a Christopher Ward C9 5day Date with white dial and blue index hands with a SS bracelet. Might get a leather strap for it at some point. I absolutely love the A.Lange you showed in this video. It might be my very long long term goal. But then again I only started collecting watches some 3 years ago. Love your channel and the fact that you are not opinionated and that you give a chance to admire even watches below the 1000$ mark! Defo one of the best channel's for watch enthusiasts on YT. Keep it up and thrilled for your great purchase!
I think I may have to sell my car to buy this watch. Fantastic buy, I also love that classic dial look. AP and Patek nowadays are just a bit bland where as the vintage designs are just timeless! Also your intro is about the nicest intro I've ever seen!
45 years old...and I'm learning everything from scratch. So happy for you...still on my first Seiko 5 and Seiko Alpinist...Goals? Maybe an Oris or Glycine Diver by the end of the year. Congrats.... cheers....
Congratulations on your latest acquisition! What a lovely choice. Admittedly, AP was my least likely choice to guess which of the Holy Trinity you would end up getting... namely because the Royal Oak is usually what most people think of when thinking AP and that didn't quite seem to fit your style of watches... well, you do sports watches, but for a Holy Trinity Watch, that didn't seem like it would fit the bill properly. But, you surprised us all, I think, with something not typical from AP which is unique and fall in line with some of your own family watches. "Unboxing My First Holy Trinity Luxury Watch".. would it be safe to assume there will be 2 more parts to unboxing Holy Trinity Luxury Watches in the future? I suspect that watch will be on your wrist every day & night till your upcoming birthday at least.. well, barring the necessity to take off to try and do other watch reviews along the way. Congrats, again! My 2018 goals?.. hmm .. I'm actually planning to slow down on new acquistions this year.. but, it's only 4 days into 2018 so probably way too soon to say for sure, right? lol. I don't have anything super fancy, but will start on an SKX modding project soon this month once all the components are in... so, doesn't look like my plan to slow down is off to the right start.. oops/ Luckily, as you may know, I have been blessed to have a vintage VC Patrimony passed down to me from my father. So, at least 1 out of 3 Holy Trinity checked off by default. BTW, The UGWC Facebook group back up and off archived status?
Thank you Wing, Always love hearing what you have to say. This is my second time typing this so if you get a repeat sorry. YT is glitchy as hell. Love the VCP, enjoy modding the SKX, always a cool way to bring new life into the SKX. As for the UGWC it will be back mid to late January. Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV, I do not comment so much on UA-cam but I have to thank you for opening this wonderful world of watches for me. I liked (!) watches before I saw your videos nevertheless since I watched your first Video (~2 or 3 months ago) I became completly addicted to watches. In addition I bought my first automatic watch end of last year and I feel that this passion will go along with me my whole life :) What a wonderful watch at 10:00!! Keep your good work and even when I am not commenting every Video I will for sure enjoy to watch them! Greetz from Germany.
@@theurbangentry longest reply delay ever and I do know that. It’s like the Ivy League colleges here. They can’t change but doesn’t mean many schools are better
TGV you definitely made the right choice getting a moonphase that’s so similar to Grandfather’s pocket watch; it’s definitely your style. My short goal is getting a better bracelet for my new Orient Ray 2, and long term I hope to have a 36mm seamaster with the bond blue bezel. Keep doing what you’re doing man people learn a lot from your videos. Peace
Great to see how much enjoyment you get out of your watches :) I'm just starting with collecting watches. I recently bought my first 1970 bulova accutron and love it so much.
I was right, you got an AP! Congrats on this gorgeous little time piece. My wrist watch goal for this year would be a Speedmaster, or much more preferable a JLC Master Control with Date window and display case back. I've worn them both and I'm in love with the JLC, but it's about 5 grand, which is a bit scary for my first luxury watch. The Speedmaster is just the most iconic chronograph there is and a strap monster.
Short Term: Orient Mako Medium Term: Nomos Metro Neomatik, Silvercut Dial - Ref. 1114 Long Term: Sinn 6000 - Frankfurt Financial District Chronograph Even though my medium term and long term watch goals are about the same price, the Sinn is my long term goal because I would like to travel to Frankfurt and purchase it directly from Sinn. Their factory and showroom are there. This watch and journey I've planned have inspired me to learn German as well! Thank you TGV for introducing me to the beautiful world of watches.
Goal for '18: New kayak. My watch fund has been diverted by a 100-year-old oak that fell on and sunk forever my old one. And so I will spend my watch year vicariously living through you, TGV. But really, that AP is more you than any other watch I've seen you wear. Beautiful piece, nice price, perfect size--and I happen to love yellow gold. Rose gold is not, well...gold-colored, izzit? Hold on to this one.
Perhaps a werewolf would find the moonphase complication useful.
I dare you to wear it on a nato !
No please don't.
Just don't
OMG how tacky that would be.
next video: "wristwatch check i'm wearing my beloved Timex weekender"
I wouldn't be the least surpriced. Seems as if he is enjoying any watch in his collection, not just the +5k ones :)
I'm wearing a weekender rn 😂😂
Well chosen Mate. I'd've guessed VC for simple elegance. But I had no idea AP made such a dashing piece that suits you. Congratulations.
It's a pleasure to see you so happy. Your enthusiasm is contagious and makes you shine. The most valuable thing we have in this world is the time that never comes back. Being able to watch the time in a unique and desired time piece is something that I enjoy and share with you and it is synonymous with health and well-being.
My short term desired watch it's a BOCCIA 3586-01
Medium Term desired watch: HAMILTON KHAKI H70575733
Long term desired watch...
Best regards,
TGV
The reference of that AP ends in BA because is freaking BAD ASS. That is a real watch. Maybe the only watch a man could ever need and definitely a heritage piece, something you can leave to your decendants for ages to come.
Thank you Andres, excellent point and your comment on "BA" cracked me up! LOL
Your comment was #pureclass
Best regards,
TGV
+ The Urban Gentry
I love the case of the AP alot. Do you know if my grail watch exists?
should only give those movements a few winds and wear it. The movement is more fragile than a rolex.
At 33mm that's a woman's watch.
does anybody know the musical piece in the intro?
One of the very few watches that perfectly fit your wrist (size). Excellent....👏
I appreciate watching your honest enthusiasm about these watches. No agenda and nothing to sell. So refreshing

"I think I'm done!" That's the funniest thing you've ever said.
"Blimey!" says the doctor, "How do your trousers fit?"
"Like a glove."
The late, great Tommy Cooper
Haha, I adore Tommy Cooper, so sad how he past away. There was a great documentary on him I saw when I was in the UK over xmas.
Thank you for sharing that :D
Best regards,
TGV
Even if it were true it'd be a little out of context.
tunokies, what the hell has that to do with an AP watch?
I've been a big fan of your videos for 3 years now, and I 'm genuinely glad to see a smile on your face while you're opening this beauty. You deserve it !!! I'm sending best wishes from Poland.
When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.
"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
- Samuel Johnson
Boswell and Johnson were discussing whether or not Boswell's affection for London would wear thin should he choose to live there, as opposed to the zest he felt on his occasional visits. (Boswell lived in Scotland, and visited only periodically. Some people are surprised to learn that Boswell and Johnson were far from inseparable over the last twenty years of Johnson's life, the period Boswell knew him.)
This discussion happened on September 20, 1777, and Johnson, someone who hated to spend time alone, was always going out and enjoying what London had to offer.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share that.
Love it.
Best regards,
TGV
Wow, great looking classic. Love the recessed day/date.
And it's always a blast to vitness you unboxing - it's like watching my kids unpacking at christmas :)
I'm still saving for the Alpinist, got a racing bike addiction to feed as well.
My grail watch is the Grand Seiko.
Such an elegant watch! To see the embrace of the dresswatch. Thanks for your infectious passion!
INFECTIOUS INDEED. SINCE SUBSCRIBING to his channel I ve bought a Longines, a Certina and a coupe of Seiko s....
Johnson, famed for his love of London is said to have replied,
"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
Anyway, glad you had a good holiday, nice to see you back :)
I myself still contemplating about the Zenith El Primero Original 1969 (03.2150.400/69.C713). One of the few chronographs I like. And a birth year watch would be a nice addition as well...
Best regards,
Claus
What a pleasure seeing you so excited over your first Holy Trinity watch. You'll never forget the feeling of your first! You'll set your sights on the other two soon enough, in the meantime there's no better feeling than what you're experiencing right now.
Wear that gorgeous timepiece in good health and preserve it for the next generation.
TGV....packaging was adisgrace😠
You're a constant inspiration TGV! Congrats on your new AP. Short Term goal: 2nd Gen Orange Seiko Monster, Long Term Goal: MarineMaster 300
Great watch! Now put it on a bond nato :^)
NO
No please, no class.
you cant put ladies watches on a nato.
:^)
Haha
You and the AP were made for one another... pure class.
Great craftsmanship. A little mechanical wonder that looks elegant too. Well done sir.
I couldn't stop smiling watching you unbox that darling! I did not know that AP did anything in that timeless style.
As for my Holy Trinity goals, I actually believe I don't need one. I'll be one of the happiest men alive if I could achieve all three of my long-running watch goals!
So, my watch goals as of 2018:
Long term (5 years): Oris Big Crown Complication moonphase 38mm
Medium term (1-2 years): Junghans Max Bill manual wind 35mm/automatic 38mm
Grail (probably 10+ years!): Jaeger LeCoultre Master Control Calendar 2002 moonphase 37mm
Ciao, John
Oh, my goal for this year - Nomos (probably Orion).
LOL have no fear, my nato straps are going nowhere near it!
I really did try and look for a VC, you are right, but the AP just kept calling me back, can you blame me?
Thank you John, what is next for you old chap?
Best regards,
TGV
I've only just got into watch collecting seriously after collecting on and off for years and then subsequently found your channel. I love your content, great work. Your new watch btw is breathtakingly beautiful. Such a good choice, I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come.
Thank you for sharing this with us. You've inspired this young man to pursue watch collecting.
Short Term: Seiko SMY042
Mid Term: Frederique Constant FC-705WR4S6
Long Term: Omega Seamaster P.O.
THAT makes it all worht it.
Thank you Matthew, enjoy the journey.
Best regards,
TGV
The dial balance is great! I love having a sweeping centre seconds but looking at it now, a seconds hand would have made it too busy.
They really got the proportions perfect. It's 33mm but still has presence. Great new addition TGV!
Really enjoyed the London Video…short term…putting a Milgauss
in rotation with my beloved Date Just daily wearer and long term finally
restoring a B W Raymond , Elgin RR6 and Bulova Railroad 214
As so many have mentioned, it's a pleasure to witness your unbridled enthusiasm & passion pouring through on this "momentous" unboxing. Especially enjoyed the detailed explanation of your rationale and preferences. I'm chuffed to bits for you too. Be well, good sir! Cheers to a splendid & adventurous 2018, TGV. Cheers,
Doug 👍⌚👍
Short term - FC Slimline (proper dress) [done]
Mid-term - upgraded Horween Leather straps and dress textured Natos for many pieces lacking in my rotation. [2 of 7 done]
Long-term - Speedy Reduced
Hello Congratulations on your new AP. I love your channel. Can't stop watching it. I know you apologized for being vulgar (stating what you paid for it) but by talking price range of watches in general you have helped me acquire watches that I wouldn't have been able to buy without saving longer, or were thought to be out of my price range. Also love it when you talk about reputable online watch dealers as it gives me some trusted options to go to.
Who can dislike this video?? This guy is my idol. A true gentleman.
I think it’s time to re-think the concept of the “Holy Trinity”. The most elite circle of watch brands really should include A. Lange & Sohne.
As I have said in previous videos many times, if it was to include German brands too, I totally agree.
Thank you Philip, great to have so many like minded among the gentry!
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you so much sir. You comment makes me deeply happy and inspires me.
Best regards,
TGV
Damn dude, how do you keep your sanity with that username? I probably can't even imagine the amount of crazy comments you get
Johan van Oldenbarnevelt I know I agree with him but it must be hell.
I mean: surely you know beforhand they would all be out of range :$
Keep them coming! I enjoy the video's very mucho
ps: I think you ought to review the Seiko SLA017 62MAS tribute?
I hope that is clear,
Best regards,
TGV
Hi there TGV :)
yes it is indeed a good addition to the video to break down your though process :) A pricey taste.. I can relate to that ;)
Kind regards from the Netherlands
What a beauty queen is this Patek! Perfect proportions and perfect design. It's also good to hear that TGV's health is in good condition. 🙂🙃😉
To use an English football analogy. You have just been promoted to the Premier League. Wonderful.
Yes but so we're Blackpool (to continue your analogy to an obvious conclusion)
There's a very, very nice jewellers (Leonard Dews) in Blackpool, that sell some very, very nice watches. All the best.
Congratulations TGV, I can tell you’re absolutely chuffed to bits! The AP is perfect.
Speedy Reduced is interesting, I’m also debating one currently. Also fancy a Glycine Combat Sub with the red bezel at some point this year!
Best regards,
Luke
Beautiful. It put a smile on my dial.
Beautiful! I hope you won't put this one on a NATO ;-)
Thank you Tal, I am sure you will be happy to hear, even I draw the line on this one!
Best regards,
TGV
Your passion for horology is infectious. I am new collector at 24 years. After careful thought and many hours of research and learning I have purchased a Seiko SKX009J1 and an SNKN37 to start my collection. Thanks sharing and inspiring such great passion about watches good sir!
P.S I'm eyeballing a Diver Tudor or possible a Sinn for the new Year, time to save up!
Your new AP is stunning and very elegant! It fits you well!
Thank you Sean :D
Best regards,
TGV
A great start to 2018. Congratulations on your latest acquisition.Coincidentally, I have had my eye on the JLC master ultra thin moon phase which is quite nice.
Short term - Laco Pilot
Medium term - Sinn 104 (if I can justify the price)
Long term - Omega Speedmaster Professional
To be honest I might just save up and buy the Speedmaster Professional as the sole purchase instead of the other two.
However the Breitling Colt volcano Black is nice so could be a bit of a tug of war between the two.
2018 goals: pick up a nice Vulcain piece
Great start to the New Year. Many congratulations Tristano, love your choice and can see why you love the VC also. Onwards and upwards!
Wow, what a stunner! Congratulations on the major milestone of watch collecting (Holy Trinity addition) Tristano! Wear it in good health my friend. It is nothing but pure class!!
Best,
Matt H.
Thank you sir!! :D
So glad you approve Matt,
Best regards,
TGV
T, you're definitely your own man! Greatly appreciate your candor regarding the Patek Nautilus...heresy to some, but I respect a man who doesn't always go with the crowd and tells it how he sees it. Gorgeous AP, as well, too small for me, but after seeing this video I think I'd wear it anyway!
Goals for 2018:
-purchase my first Rolex
-lose 40lbs
-build my UA-cam Channel to 5,000 subscribers
-Spread some positive energy into the world.
If I have to pick three....
short - SKX007 (because I love Seikos and I really want a full collection one day... including a Grand Seiko spring drive!)
medium - torn between the Glycine Combat Sub and Squale-matic!
long GMT Master II!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your passion!
Breathtakingly beautiful, excellent choice as always
Thank you Nat :D
Best regards,
TGV
Not talking eh? That confirms it. :)
Lol yeah fortunately not interested in the sports models, at five times the price that makes sense!
What are you talking about Jimmy?
Wow that's incredible that spread of tiers at the end of the video: you delighted us with all those potential haute Horologories candidates from the Holy trinity into the $ 1000's ands 1000's and all of a sudden you switch to the more than to earth speedy and immediately after and everyday relatively cheap and colorful Casio, that is why your Channel format is a winner cause you cover the whole spectrum, cheers.
Congratulations!! I'm fairly certain that AP is the exact reference worn by Bill Murray in the classic film Scrooged!
WHAAAAAAAT?!?!? I ruddy hope so!!! That would be insanely cool
Thank you Matt, fingers crossed.
Best regards,
TGV
no he's wearing a perpetual calendar.
But it's time to slow down.
short term alpinist, middle term oris/squale , long term rolex GMT
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your selection Raymond, you sir have class.
Superbly good taste, thank you for sharing and I hope they all become a reality.
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry
Got my skx 007j this year on your recommendation and loving it 👍 so fingers crossed for next one 🙏
Sincere congratulations...your poor eta's, crying in the wilderness of those cold Queen's wintry streets. Their sleeping in the subway baby tonite!
LOL good one!
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
Thanks for that Urb's, we've finally made contact! Enjoy it in good health. Lovely watch, esp from the Royal Oak obsessives. If i ever get the VC PC 85180 i might shove a camera at it, one day.......
Thank you, sir. I now made it my goal to save enough to buy this watch in 2-3 years time! Beautiful watch. I'm shocked at how affordable it is. Cheers.
How do you take your shots without a glare @2:25 your suby shot is "impeccable" 😂👍 well done!
Probably time to pop it on a NATO
LOL Never!
:D
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Zackysmallz NATO strap isn't for elegance watch.
:D
I'd love to see you get another speedy reduced, that's my grail watch!
It is a beauty.. classically stylish. Would not expect anything less for TGV.enjoy.
Thank you Rick :D
Best regards,
TGV
What interests me with watches is that beauty is in the eye of the owner. A piece I might love, may generate the polar opposite response in someone else. You love it, you earned the money for it, buy what ever rocks your boat !
My holy trinity is Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit!
Same here. :-) We won't need watches to the place we're going.
When you have tiger blood you wear Patek.
Matthew Yee you mean a stuffed animal tied your blood Patek Philippe are for dainty men
I think I may have to sell my car to buy this watch. Fantastic buy, I also love that classic dial look. AP and Patek nowadays are just a bit bland where as the vintage designs are just timeless! Also your intro is about the nicest intro I've ever seen!
Well done tgv, glad your over the moon!
It's good to see a rich guy with some class! Real love of quality and excellent informative stuff. Thanks
Beautiful watch, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Joseph :D
Best regards,
TGV
I believe the Stowa Seatime is the watch I need to get this year, not sure of the color yet!
My 2018 goals?.. hmm .. I'm actually planning to slow down on new acquistions this year.. but, it's only 4 days into 2018 so probably way too soon to say for sure, right? lol.
I don't have anything super fancy, but will start on an SKX modding project soon this month once all the components are in... so, doesn't look like my plan to slow down is off to the right start.. oops/
Luckily, as you may know, I have been blessed to have a vintage VC Patrimony passed down to me from my father. So, at least 1 out of 3 Holy Trinity checked off by default.
BTW, The UGWC Facebook group back up and off archived status?
Thank you Wing,
Always love hearing what you have to say. This is my second time typing this so if you get a repeat sorry. YT is glitchy as hell.
Love the VCP, enjoy modding the SKX, always a cool way to bring new life into the SKX.
As for the UGWC it will be back mid to late January.
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV,
I do not comment so much on UA-cam but I have to thank you for opening this wonderful world of watches for me. I liked (!) watches before I saw your videos nevertheless since I watched your first Video (~2 or 3 months ago) I became completly addicted to watches. In addition I bought my first automatic watch end of last year and I feel that this passion will go along with me my whole life :)
What a wonderful watch at 10:00!!
Keep your good work and even when I am not commenting every Video I will for sure enjoy to watch them!
Greetz from Germany.
times have changed about the holy trinity.....Lange belongs in there too!
I'm going to need a little evidence of such a claim.
pgreenx HT refers to Swiss made watches. Lange being German can never be included in that list.
Thank you Ryan for pointing that out.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry longest reply delay ever and I do know that. It’s like the Ivy League colleges here. They can’t change but doesn’t mean many schools are better
TGV you definitely made the right choice getting a moonphase that’s so similar to Grandfather’s pocket watch; it’s definitely your style. My short goal is getting a better bracelet for my new Orient Ray 2, and long term I hope to have a 36mm seamaster with the bond blue bezel. Keep doing what you’re doing man people learn a lot from your videos. Peace
Put a nato on it
LOL, joking aside, this is perhaps the one watch own I will never do that!
But thank you, you made me laugh.
Best regards,
TGV
Great to see how much enjoyment you get out of your watches :) I'm just starting with collecting watches. I recently bought my first 1970 bulova accutron and love it so much.
I will have a Squale by 2019.
Soligen Music aim for a Rolex and you probably will get the squale in 4months and omega in 6 Rolex in 12-18month
Yeah, setting your goal on a Squale? Not very high there.
Soligen Music By all means, dont over extend yourself or anything! 😂
Congrats TGV, such an exquisite acquisition! As always, only the best are born in February, myself included.
Congrats on a beautiful watch. I dunno about putting this one on a NATO tho. lol. JK, I know you've said no NATO's with Roman numerals.
LOL you know me too well!
Thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
I was right, you got an AP! Congrats on this gorgeous little time piece.
My wrist watch goal for this year would be a Speedmaster, or much more preferable a JLC Master Control with Date window and display case back. I've worn them both and I'm in love with the JLC, but it's about 5 grand, which is a bit scary for my first luxury watch. The Speedmaster is just the most iconic chronograph there is and a strap monster.
Ohhhhhh FatsoLuxury will be pissed!!!!
Short Term: Orient Mako
Medium Term: Nomos Metro Neomatik, Silvercut Dial - Ref. 1114
Long Term: Sinn 6000 - Frankfurt Financial District Chronograph
Even though my medium term and long term watch goals are about the same price, the Sinn is my long term goal because I would like to travel to Frankfurt and purchase it directly from Sinn. Their factory and showroom are there. This watch and journey I've planned have inspired me to learn German as well!
Thank you TGV for introducing me to the beautiful world of watches.
And of course, CONGRATS!
EYE-ROLL
Goal for '18: New kayak. My watch fund has been diverted by a 100-year-old oak that fell on and sunk forever my old one. And so I will spend my watch year vicariously living through you, TGV. But really, that AP is more you than any other watch I've seen you wear. Beautiful piece, nice price, perfect size--and I happen to love yellow gold. Rose gold is not, well...gold-colored, izzit? Hold on to this one.
