  • Picked up a new to us mowing and snow removal tool this past weekend. This is the introductory video. There will be a number of videos coming up in the next few months about this unit.
    1) How does it compare to the 1445 and other front mounts
    2) Impressions
    3) Use
    4) V-flex deck
    and many other future videos. This machine should serve us well into the next 10-15 years.

    I have a 1585 pretty much optioned out just like yours the only thing I don't have is the v flex deck .. just have the normal 72 inch Deck.... I love my has almost 1800 hours on it and I haven't had any issues with it you'll have many good years with it

    Hi, I have the JD 1565 with the side discharge 72" deck. I would like to add a striping kit. I think JD used to make one, but it has been discontinued. Have you ever seen any aftermarket striping kits that will work on these awesome machines with the side discharge decks?

  • @themaniacmower

    Definitely a nice rig never seen a deck like that before. What do you think of that setup compared to the front wheel steer when mowing? Need to find a broom to mount to my tractors for here around the shop.

      All the different types have their place. In this case the front mount units just offer some perks over something like a zero turn. I’ll discuss why I like front mounts in a future video. They certainly are not for everyone!

    Does your 1445 have 4 wheel drive? If it doesn’t have 4x4 that would be a reason why it turns tighter as it doesn’t have drive shafts.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  2 роки тому +2

      The 1445 is 4wd. I think a lot of it is learning curve of a new machine. I’ve spent about 2 hrs in it now and most of the perception is the lack of off-set on the V-flex and the larger size.

    I have such bad allergies that sometimes it feels like I need a 1585 so I can totally relate to you right now I have a john deere jx75 push lawn mower and their is not four models you forgot one the 1550 terriancut

    • @mmrbeef

      The 1550 is the one I was thinking of but the only number that came to my head was a 1565, which those are older units.

    Given your experience with these JD front mount mowers. At what point would you say you need the flex deck vs the standard flat deck? I'm referring to terrain style or aggressiveness in slopes and whether it's worth all the extra complicated V style mower?
    Just curious of your opinion.

      While I love the V-Flex deck for the cut quality, this spring the regular 72" deck is going on the 1585. Unless you have a significant number of hills and want a perfectly manicured yard, I don't think the V-Flex is required. I can tell you that the V-Flex will require 2-3 times the maintenance (cost and time) of the regular deck. Plus the weight of the deck is a huge negative, almost 900 lbs out in front of the machine when you pick it up is very noticeable.

    Hi, do you still have the machine? I just took delivery of a 1575. So far so good. A bit of a learning curve for me adjusting the deck height. I also want to order rear suitcase weights and a step up piece (not included in 1575). Was also wondering if you had an opinion on dual wheels for the front? My dealer discouraged it because of the weight of the cab?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  23 дні тому +1

      Yes I still have the 1585. When I first got my 1445 back in 2016 it did have a learning curve. We moved last year so I don’t put near the hours on this 1585 I expected to, but we really like it. I did sell the V-Flex deck this past summer. Unless you are mowing some gnarly hills I don’t think duals would get you much in the way of stability. Your dealer is probably thinking right with duals and the weight of the cab, that’s a lot of tire on the ground when you make a 180 degree turn.

    • @LakeJoe
      @LakeJoe 23 дні тому

      @@mmrbeef I have both flat turf and some fairly steep terrain but I don’t want to compromise the axle or anything of the sort. I do know that duals are available from JD for the non-cab version… thanks for the reply.

      @LakeJoe 22 дні тому

      Oh I just thought of something, if I can’t add duals to my 1575, could I add wheel spacers instead!??

    How is that V flex deck working for you and how are you liking the cut

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 місяці тому +1

      Cut quality is second to none! With the striping kit install this deck will make your yard look fantastic! However, it’s slow! Couple details that really hurt it’s performance:
      1) it’s heavy, very heavy. Your machine will have to have weights.
      2) limited trimming room. Because the deck is more centered, not off-set to the left, it has limited trimming capability around trees. Basically you will need to do more weed whacking.
      3) with the striping kit the deck should be picked up to make a 180 degree turn.
      4) expensive to maintain. With all the moving parts there is just a lot to maintain. With Deere no longer producing the deck, the parts are more expensive to boot.
      So to sum it up. Cut quality is fantastic but it has some draw backs depending on your situation.

    how much are you looking for on your 1445

  • @tator05

    That's news to me that they discontinued the V Flex deck, sad to hear that. There was nothing else in that size like it on the market. I think Toro made one years ago for their front mounts, can anyone confirm? It probably wasn't a huge seller for Deere, its a niche product for sure. I wonder what my local school district is going to do now when they purchase new units because they use these V Flex Decks now with mulch kits installed. Every piece of the landscape is mounds and swails and I doubt they could use a fixed deck machine wider than a 36", that V Flex was the perfect solution to contour for them.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  2 роки тому

      In October/November of 2021 I tried to price a V-Flex and my dealer couldn’t find a way to order one. In July of 2021 you could still order one. Lastec would now be the supplier of flex decks. Granted the cost of the Lastec decks is a little nauseating! Plus they are only for open station units.

    i have a 1545 with a flex deck and i love it , over the winter i totally rebuild it to near new condition .
    the only problem i have is that it seems the tractor is hard to turn without scuffing the grass .
    it almost seems the differential is not working properly .
    anybody else have this problem ?
    i never have this with my kubota !

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  5 місяців тому

      The flex decks are very heavy and if you have the striping rollers it’s a lot for any machine to “push” around obstacles. This issue is deck specific. I’ve had to rethink my mowing actions when using the flex deck. Lift the deck on tight turns. There is already more weed whacking to do because the deck is not offset to the left like the straight deck units. I’m pretty happy with my flex deck, now that I’ve realized it’s limitations.

    $500 for each caster? Ouch. I used to sell parts at a dealer and I would not of guessed that much. But then again if the deck is no longer made, then yes I get it. Probably I good 3-4month wait too. Hehe.
