  • A few thoughts of mine on front mount mowers. Finding good used commercial mowers isn't a bad option for large area mowing.
I will be going over models in a future video and I am building a reference sheet.
Cost Information (based on sales reference books and pricing books):
    1990 F935
    $13,281 - base machine
    $25 - tires
    $91 - aux hydraulics
    $371 - ROPS and Seat
    $2,870 - 72" deck
    $16,638 in 1990 dollars = $35,155 in 2021 dollars
    2005 1445 *2008 machine shown, I do not have a price guide past 2005*
    $20,069 - base
    $321 - aux hydraulics
    $1,431 - 4 post ROPS
    $386 - front windshield
    $300 - wiper
    $3,980 - 72" 7-Iron Deck
    $26,487 in 2005 dollars = $37,389
    As of June 2021:
    - a new 1575 (4wd w/ cab a/c and heat) was $42,639 less deck
    - a new 1570 (2wd OOS) was $28,649 less deck

So funny, I bought a F935 back in 2000 with 700 hrs on it and mowed between 5 and 10 acre per year. Also put a snow blower on it and heated cab, works great. Put around 3000 hrs on it and decided to upgrade to the 1445 in 2021. The added hp is nice, 4x4 is great, mowing quality is better... Both are awesome tractors. Ag tires are a must if you have any soft areas. I've got 5 acres, 3 deere tractors, 3 old Power Kings, just about perfect!
    Good accurate video.

This will sound crazy. I got a 1445 base 2wd 1435 hours on itfor free. They ran gas through it and it sat for about 8 years.
I redid the entire fuel system, new tires, new seat, all new fluids, and 3 new spindles. Maybe have $2k in it and I love cutting with this thing.

I had a JD F725 several years ago. I used it for about 5 years cutting my personal lawn as well as mowing several lawns for profit. I absolutely loved that mower. The terrain around here is usually really uneven and hilly. The floating deck on the front mount mower made for such a nice cut with very little scalping or uneven cut. I sold the mower because my day job was not allowing for time to mow properties for profit any more. My personal lawn is only 1 acre. I still kick myself for selling that mower. It was build like a tank. Even though the deck is stamped, it could take a beating and never bent or warped. I always said, if it will fit underneath the deck, that mower will cut it up and never think twice about it. I am now looking at the F925/F935 mower for my next purchase. Glad to hear the diesels are so reliable. Aside from the prop shaft and deck casters, are there any other particularly costly item I should be looking at when I do go look at one of these?

Very interesting video. Glad you share your stories where things don't go perfectly. Also, I appreciate you discussing costs of maintenance and putting it in a per-acre dollar amount, and it's great to hear what you pay for things and ballpark ranges of what they're worth. Thanks again

Things rarely ever go perfect!! So why not be honest about it. I resisted putting dollar amounts to stuff for a long time since a lot of it is situationally dependent BUT I think with some context it might help folks make a decision.

How about to compare 1445 to F1145... diesel powered almost 30hp yanmar 3 cyl.
And Kubota something F36... something harvesters are interestin as well. Some sollutions are better than for deere..

And that's why I never complain about the cost per acre because I got a 1435 and 455 and I spend maybe $300 in maintenance and parts, "combined", not bad.

The tie rod end on the steering cylinder is 200$ from Deere but you have to use old part number to get the right part. The new number part will not work

Hello there im looking into purchasing a 1420. Are parts readily available for those units? How familiar are you with these unit. It needs some tinkering. But it only has 800 hrs. Any help or insight is appreciated.

Aside from the engine and same electrical components the 1420 is the same as a 1435 or 1445. Just about everything is available as new or used depending on what you are looking for. IMHO the 1420 is just a little under powered with the Yanmar gas engine, especially if it has a 72” deck.

This question is unrelated to front mounts and I'm hoping you can advise. I recently looked at purchasing a new x390. I always figured I would buy a 318 but gave up as everyone I find around the area are beat up and need lots of work and they still want 2,000 or more dollars. I figured maybe a new x390 would be a better alternative. I have a half acre yard so I figured I would go with the 48 inch deck with the mulch option. I will probably buy the powerflow bagger as well. Is the x390 as tough as a 318 or 322? Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking at a f935 with a snowblower and cab … 1500 hours . How well do these move snow. I want it as a dedicated machine for a 1,000 foot long driveway that 1/2 of it is at a 10% grade. Does this seem like a good fit ?

Local Facebook marketplace is probably the best place to find a deck.

The F935 was not 4wd. The F1145 was 4wd. I sold this machine shortly after I made this video. Almost a year ago, I think.

Are there any strengths to the F935 compared to a 430?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому +1

The F935 will mow circles around a 430. However, no 3 pt or rear PTO on an F935…..

I have the opportunity to buy a 1420 series 2 from my local community college for $1,500. It’s just with mower deck and I really want snowblower. Do you know what model snowblower I should be looking for?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому +1

There is a model 47 and 60” blower for these units. I would recommend a 47 for the 1420. They blower attachment is specific to the 1400 and 1500 series machines. The older F series blowers will not work on the 1400/1500 series. It’s not common to see a lot of blowers for sale so you will just have to keep an eye out for one.

Got a f935 gas Onan with 76" swept deck for free. One of the worst designed machine ever. Once fixed with non-John Deere parts. These mowers can be great, mine works fantastic. I wouldn't pay scap price for this mower. Ps whoever designed that so called pto system should've been fired
