    I’ve had my 1585 since 2014. Couldn’t believe JD didn’t finish cab out. Sealed similar. I have rear discharge fastback 72”. Love it. Just not the way JD sets it up. 1. Take off rubber “mudflap like guard”. Cut it off so it looks like mudflap across front. Leave cross bracket underneath to protect hydro filter. This lets grass drop out. 2. I added 3/4” x 1” chain deflector skirt across back of deck. 3. I blow off daily. But no trapped grass to ferment underneath. 4. Door seals: trees brush them off eventually. Remove and replace w bulbous 3/4 x 1” self adhesive seal McMaster Carr has. Makes smooth outer glass. Fits perfectly.

      Zero regrets on this mower… I had reservations on the cost when I purchased.. I spend a few hours a weekend in it so I can justify it…

    Great video Rocky. I have been looking at these for a while but the noise and dust seem to be a common complaint. Deere put so much money into these that it is odd that they didn't do the sealing that you ended having to do yourself. Maybe they will get a hint from your work and the reviews of others.

    Rocky, I agree with your comments about the side discharge verses the rear discharge. Mine is a rear discharge which I really like because I’ve got a grove of trees and the side discharge would increase mowing time considerably. But, evidently John Deere did not ever field test this rear discharge unit or they would never have put it in production. My rear engine hood plugs with debris within the first 15 minutes of use and where the cooling air comes from is anyones guess. Without any gages to tell you what’s going on with the engine is nothing but scary. My number one priority is to find compatible gages and get them installed. The poorly thought out rear discharge makes me do a 👎👎👎👎

    Would have liked to see a decibel meter used before and after your improvements.

    Thanks for contributing this video. My closest John Deere dealer has never had a 1585 on their lot. It is very hard to troubleshoot the cab dust/ac problem without eyes and hands on a machine. Most videos and written reviews focus on the problem without trying to find a solution. That has made me hesitate on moving forward with the purchase process. I will stay tuned for a follow up video on cab dust/ac performance.

      After putting in the time to seal everything off I absolutely love this mower. I have a finishing mower and a Kubota 75hp with cab that is not being used since I purchased. The power and the cut is great. Glad the video helped with your decision either way.

      Tractors with a cab have been on my mind for months. My plan was to do something with enough horsepower to pull an articulating finish mower. A few hills have steered me away from that set up. Also, woulld only be for mowing and would need a larger truck/trailer. Otherwise, Kubota is hard to beat. Looked at Cabnair on a Ferris zero turn. Not too comfortable after trying a Grasshopper and a Gravely. 4wd is a must. Toro groundsmaster rotary cut qualitty is below John Deere 7 iron. 1585 is the only option for my situation. Sealing the cab can be done thanks to you. I'll start getting serious about bringing one home in time for this Texas heat next year if research doean't uncover something else.. Enjoy that machine!

    Awesome tips on sealing the cab. I am curious if there is going to be a follow up video to show the results.

    Did this remove all of the dust that gets into the cab, Or is it still leaking? Im considering doing this sealing upgrade, but it is worth the time and effort ?

    50k mower and john deere put it together as cheap as possible. Is the toro any better?

    Question when you turn does the steering wheel continue to spin past full lock or does the steering lock when it gets to max turning ratio?

    • @scanjett
      @scanjett 2 роки тому

      we have 2 of these and the newer one does not keep turning at full lock but the older one turns. i don't think its supposed to keep turning.

      Around 44k. For that kind of a price you'd think you'd get a cab that was sealed properly.

    @Rocky Rohde - Great ideas...I am one of the suckers who bought the rear discharge and talk all about it on my channel too: ua-cam.com/video/EHaW91EdGPo/v-deo.html Would be great to see a follow-up on how these fixes worked for you, I will try them out in the spring. It's too bad JD makes a person go through this after spending a small fortune on this machine. Also, too bad you live in Texas, these things really shine in the snow! :) Thanks for a great video!

    • @RockyRohde
      @RockyRohde  2 роки тому +1

      I actually watched your video a few times before my purchase.. This mower is amazing in Texas just because it gets so hot and dry here… plus the mosquitos are huge especially since I’m on the lake. The fixes have held up well. I have not had to blow or vacuum the unit and still looks like new in the inside. I have put 36 hours on the machine mowing in dry climate. I would never own another open station again. I actually thought I was going to be less efficient mowing going from the zero turn to a steering wheel but the maneuverability of this machine is actually faster for me. Definitely a lot less weed eating with front mount mower vs zero turn. I would recommend getting the side discharge with mulch kit.. I always installed mulch kit on all my mowers they are great as long as grass doesn’t get to tall. I have zero clippings and don’t have to worry about direction as deck does not discharge. The ac will freeze me out of mine in the summer with the window tint.
