I'm sorry it didn't go as you liked that's really hard and I can't imagine everything your feeling right now but I just wanted to say that your not being over emotional, your not over reacting and everything you feel is justified and you shouldnt feel guilty for feeling that way. I don't know how everything going to turn out but I do know that you are such and amazing person who has helped so many people and one day you will be watching this video back and know that everything did work out and all the pain this caused you lead you somewhere better than you ever imagined.
I love how honest you are about the whole process. That's so necessary. I can't stand when these chipper little blonde girls are all like "Don't take it personally if a house drops you!", like it's not a computer algorithm doing it, the sorority decided they don't want me. There is only one way to take that, and it's personally.
Felt this!! Like.. yessss I know it’s a numbers game and a lot of it depends on who knows who, but it’s hard not to take it personally. Opinions were in there somewhere yknow
I went through formal rush twice and it ended so bad for me! Thankfully, I found my home through cob and wouldn’t have it any other way❤ Now being on the other side of recruitment I see how messy the process is and there can be girls that we want but it’s a whole number game and one person’s vote can make or break if you come back. I remember we had a lot of great girls who we wanted but one vote changed everything and we missed out on a lot of girls who we loved! It definitely doesn’t define you as a person at all and the process is just very hard and tricky! Thank you for sharing your journey and how it’s not all happily ever after! I’m positive you’ll find your home one day whether it’s another sorority, a club, or just your friends
That’s what they don’t tell the pnm’s- no one thinks about their opinion until pref to bid day. You may rank but unless you are the rock star girl your opinion doesn’t matter. (Every girl IS A ROCK STAR but houses have to cut and it can be because they like one type of girl- it’s so hard.) The houses do what they want it’s very very rarely in the girls’ hands. They never really tell the girls that. Their job is to get girls into the houses- ALL OF THE HOUSES. It’s hard. Bless you.
One of my big college regrets was joining a sorority. They can be clique-y and cultish and a lil (read a lot) controlling. I know so many people who had great experiences, so many who had terrible ones, and so many with stories inbetween. Maybe the extra time to get to know them more will help you avoid even more heart break. Good luck, keep swimming.

I was in a sorority in college and i wouldn’t change it for anything because it taught me a lot, BUT it was also a source of major depression for me because I was legacy at a “top house” and I didn’t fit in AT ALL. I’m curious to see if you’ll go through informal (probably soon, right?) but just know, you’ll have lasting memories and lasting friendships regardless ❤️ join clubs or teams if you can in the event you don’t end up in a sorority 🙂
Hi I wanted to let you know that I was in the same situation as you. My school only has one sorority so its less of a "find where you fit in" process and more of a "they like you or they don't process". Nevertheless I clicked with a lot of the girls in the sorority and I knew that I could find my home and my people there. I went through the rush process twice and both times I was rejected. The second time really hurt because I made it to preference night and they made me feel so loved just so they could turn me away the next day. Its been two years and theres still moments when I get FOMO after seeing pictures of all the fun stuff that they are doing. However, I found my home and my people in other places and I wouldn't trade my college experience for anything. I appreciate you sharing this video. I had such a hard time talking about how insecure that rejection made me because I did not want to come across as someone who was angry and bitter because they didn't get a bid. In order for sororities to make people feel special there has to be someone for them to feel superior to whether non-greek life people or other sororities. Keep your head held high. Keep putting yourself out there. It gets better with time.
I just can't believe this is a thing, as an European. I'm sure it can lead to great experiences... But it feels like it has the potential to be incredibly toxic. I also feel like it supports a level of superficiality and appearance-obsession that should not be so influencial during such important years: becoming an adult is about cherishing individuality.
Girl, there’s sooo many more clubs and groups you can join besides a sorority. Explore your options! You don’t need to pay for friends, you can make friends anywhere.

I never went through Rush at UVA, but I appreciated so much that the university did not allow anyone to join Greek life until they were at least spring semester First Year. It made it so that there was no pressure to join Greek life and to focus solely on settling in and academics the first semester. I’m sorry it didn’t work as planned, but UVA has so many clubs to join.
I was a transfer student who went through formal rush as a junior and got dropped by my top 3 every round. I forged ahead because I felt like I didn't have time to wait for informal or cob, but you can believe that I called home crying every day. My Rho Chi told me that I should remember that the houses that called me back chose ME. I only got 2 for pref and I did get my top choice on bid day. I can honestly say that I actually really loved the house that chose me and I am glad for my experience there, but also watching your video made me wonder if I made the right choice or could I possibly have gotten a "better" house or one of the ones that I really wanted if I had held out. Anyway I just wanted you to know that you had a platform with UA-cam and maybe the reason you didn't get in and have things fall into place the way you wanted was so that you would have a story that would help so many other girls who are going through what you went through. Now my daughter is a senior and I will be going through this experience next year as a mom. I know there will be tears. But you are, she is, I am, we are #worthy
Felt this! Got dropped by everyone because sororities are so small at my school. No one warns about smaller schools & how it is literally just who you know because they have such small numbers but I def took it veryyyyy personally
I know it’s tough now, but if they can’t see you for how amazing you are, do you really want to be around them? What benefit do they really offer you that you couldn’t get somewhere else? I found that while I was in college, those groups would act like they were the only source of social interaction and philanthropy when in fact I found plenty of other places that provided the same things. It took great strength to turn down the potential offers from the other sororities and I recognize that ❤️

I only ranked my top choice after pref parties, knowing I wouldn’t accept a bid from the the other one. So, when I got a call from my rho informing me that I was “offered a bid” on the night before bid day, that was basically the same thing as opening my envelope right then and there. So, I didn’t get the classic bid day experience with all the suspense, but it was very nice to not have to show up and be disappointed. I didn’t end up with either of the two sororities I had my heart set on, but I did end up in one of my top 5. Do I truly believe it was the BEST fit for me? No. Did I have a positive experience in it overall? Yes. None of my favorite sororities participated in informal rush (including the one I ultimately joined), so I never considered it as an option and I have absolutely no insight into how that works.

It’s your journal and as long as your okay and you feel comfortable with it, it’s all okay! However, if it’s really bothering you and affecting your journaling journey, then it’s not okay.
