    It's 2024, and in the last 3 years, there are two new "ways" to run minishells in the Mossberg pump shotguns. The first, which came out in 2021ish, is the 590S by Mossberg. This way to run minishells was achieved by taking the "rubber" concept pioneered by OPSol, and putting that rubber at the very back or the receiver.
    The goal of Mossberg was to have a shotgun that can run any length shell without an adapter. Mossberg "redesigned" the 500 platform to do this and call it the 590S. The entirety of that redesign was to allow you to put minishells and regular shells into the same mag tube, and fire them.
    So for an extra $100 as of today at Academy, you can have that capability. In a home defense shotgun, where your family members may be the ones using the shotgun, what is more likely......you practice with a specific round with expected recoil and penetration, and load the gun with those (mini or long), or you put in a variety of multi length rounds with a variety of recoil responses.
    The second way to do it was developed by Defender Tactical. This option basically mimics what Mossberg did, but can be inserted into the gun.
    In both cases, the "rubber" is at the back of the receiver, so that minishell and full length shells can be run at the same time.
    What both solutions DO NOT DO is actually transform a 3" wide receiver (to handle 2.75" long shells) into a 1.6"ish receiver to handle 1.5" minishells.
    As a result, there is about 1.4" of "rattle room". When under a real defense scenario, where you or your family may be racking the gun hard, in odd positions such as barrel up, or around a corner where the ejection port may be facing down, the mini shells move around, flip, and sometime fall out of the ejection port.
    Every pump shotgun made, including the KSG, that allows a minishell to rattle around, will flip shells. That extra rattle room is always present.
    Put another way, if in this world, only minishells existed, a pump shotgun would have a 1.6" receiver, not a 3" receiver.
    A full length shell needs a full length receiver, and a minishell needs a mini receiver. Only the OPSol Flex adapter transforms a Mossberg 500 (Mav 88, 500, 590, 590A1, Shockwave) receiver to a mini receiver.

    Nice video! I've been running the minis in my Kel-Tec KSG with no problems. I do have a Mossberg 500 and have placed an OPSol on order.
    As I watched this video, I got to thinking: What if Mossberg shortened their action so that it would only take the minis? It sounds like that would make a nice home defense shotgun with high capacity but much lower recoil - something less intimidating and easier for many more people to handle. Nice, handy, lightweight? Call it the "Mini 500". Maybe a small semi-auto version?
    FWIW, the ballistics for the mini slugs seems far superior to any handgun round as well as the 223 Remington: The Aguila Mini slug diam is .729", it's weight is 382 grains and it's velocity is 1300fps. That's 1434 ft/lbs of muzzle energy!

      If minishells come into more widespread use than maybe they would make a mini shell only shotgun, however they have made the 590s which feeds the mini shells as well as normal length shells with no adapter needed.

      @@ethanclem3383 Yes, the 590s is great little gun! I'll keep using the minishells for home defense! I'm hoping they will come out with an upgrade set of parts for the standard 590's so I won't need the OPSol.

      I agree it would be a good idea for Mossberg, or any shotgun manufacturer, to make a dedicated short shotshell gun. It would be a great firearm for women, children, elderly, and those who may have physical limitations preventing them from firing full size shells. I know I would add one or two to my collection.

    I just bought one came from Amazon, package correct with OPSol on it but adapter was the OPsol s in lower cap. knockoff, counterfeit. When you look, it is a poor quality mold and not the same type rubber compound. And beware of possible chemicals they used in the knockoff possibly corrosive? There is a video on there website and on you tube. Next one I buy will be at the gun shop if they get them in, and will check it. This kind of knockoff crime takes money and jobs from the people that make the real ones. Liked your video.

    I've recently purchased some of the Aquila mini shells for my mossberg 500. Even with the obsol adapter the shells do not function properly. In the video the guy is racking his shotgun while it is lying on its side. This is an inefficient test. When the shotgun is held in both hands pointed down range(not lying on its side) the shells don't cycle cleanly. The mini shells will fit vertically inside the action, perpindicular to the barrel causing you to have to turn the gun on its side and shake out the miss fed shell. And hope that the next shell might load properly

    • @darink300zx

      kyle edwards this was not my experience when I was at the range, functioned flawlessly using the adapter. I didn’t hold the shotgun in any special way or to the side (as in the video) or anything, just held it in the ready position. Not sure why yours was having issues, but mine did not.

My favorite application is the shockwave 590, the short shells increase the capacity to 8 I think. Keep it within arms reach while in bed. Most of the shooting I did at the range with this opsol mini clip was in the shockwave and I had no issues with it. With the clip installed and using the mini-shells it increases the capacity of the shockwave from 5 to like 8 or 9 rounds. The other added benefit of using the mini-shells in the shockwave is that it greatly reduces recoil in shooting that little firearm. As I mentioned earlier though, I would stick with the mini-slugs or the buckshot shells if you were to use if for self defense. I just think the birdshot shells wouldn't have enough stopping power.

    • @darink300zx
      @darink300zx  6 років тому

      It is kinda odd. When I bought some years ago they were about the same cost as 2 3/4 shells, now they are quite a bit higher. May just be a supply and demand issue and once Aguila gets production of them back up, maybe they'll come back down. I did notice that when these adapters were introduced at shot show last year, the shells began selling out all over. I did notice they are becoming more available now though.

    #1. stop holding your shotgun sideways while racking. #2. make sure you buy the OPSol Mini-Clip 2.0 Flex there is a knock off out there for about $8 that does not work.

    Can this Opsol mini clip works on Remington 870. Please reply...

    • @darink300zx
      @darink300zx  5 років тому +5

      No, this is specifically made to fit mossberg shotguns. I don't own a remington, so I'm only going from what I've read online, but my understanding is that the 870 will cycle the aguilla mini-shells without one of these.
