There is something so calming and grounding about the scents you encounter in the forest. I think I'll take a little forest walk today and smell things!
You might try creating one of your own. Put things and activities that you like in it, but ask someone else to decide which days to do or get what. That way, you can still have a small element of surprise. Or you could set one up on your computer. Just an idea.
The doggy in her raincoat is the cutest! Also, if literally any other creator made a video about smelling the Forrest I would not have clicked. Shrimp is the eccentric dad/grandpa we all need.
Love Eva zooming through the forest. Nothing quite as joyous as a dog just enjoying running free. The larch...the larch. Do i detect a Monty Python reference?
You are probably using your sense of smell more than you realize - when you know instinctively that something is in the area when you are foraging - how? that could be in part because you are subconsciously smelling the aroma. Eva's zoomies made me smile hugely!
I love that when you are describing how Eva experiences smells of the forest, you introduce her as 'one person'. Little four legged furry person in her purple coat :)
I love how amidst the drama channels there's a guy who just smell the forest. Sure, it might be funny, but he brings so much more positivity into this world than any drama channels. I beg you, keep being yourself mr.shrimp.
Mike when you said you were going to publish an advent calender with daily videos I just _assumed_ the videos will be short (3-5mins) but could not have dreamed that they would be full length
This is better than therapy. You're inspiring me to try and take a long walk tomorrow after taking care of anotger thing or two today. The best advent calendar ❤
The almost lemon-like scent is probably limonene! It's very present in a lot of plants and gets used in a lot of cleaning products because it's fresh, cheap and non-toxic.
Ah... the smell of the forest. Always makes me calm and happy. No matter how bad the weather is even (almost), being out in the woods is always an interesting and pleasurable experience. Wishing a pleasant start of the week to everyone watching!
As a queer teen whose youtube feed is mostly full of video game content and video essays, I've really enjoyed your slower-paced videos such as this one. Very excited for daily videos from this channel this festive month!
Sir Francis Bacon said: “Acorns and nuts were good, until someone invented bread.” So after you've succeeded a little, don't make the mistake of stopping. If you can't think up a new idea or invention, then find a way to improve an old one. ~ Samoa Observer
When I was in school we wandered around doing this for one trip, we were supposed to collect different things together and make any kind of combination, I don't think it was supposed to be as a perfume as such but that's how I saw it at the time I think
Fun fact: coniferous trees contain essential oils that have antimicrobial properties, these oils evaporate into the air. So smelling the forest can help your immune system as well as your mood!
What a fabulous walk in the woods, it has made me want to go out & smell the forest especially gorse, I have never sniffed it! Your walk with the wonderful Eva is a great recipe for mental & physical, therapy.Looking forward to day 3 etc. Take care.🌲🌳🌿.
The smell of gorse is a real treat when you get up close, but mind your nose - it's very spiny and especially if you are bending a branch to get it to your nose, it can spring back and poke you
Just great…. I’m from north Wales but now live in France and we lived in La Creuse up until 2/3 years ago and we had a walk nearby called La Rigole du Diable..sounds sinister 👹…but it was full of forest like this.. I miss it so much. This was like a little nostalgic trip for me! And the sounds too! The hollowness of the ground in a pine forest..we must have disturbed a deer one day drinking at the stream and heard it galloping away..a magical moment that. Thanks AS..🍄🍁🌲🌻
Oak leaves smell to me like baking potatoes in a gas powered oven. Electric ovens don't seem to bring out the same aroma in jacket potatoes. I am sure Early Man used the sense of smell more than we do.
Storm in the woods video sounds like a recipe for disaster! When you see all the large fallen branches on the forest floor and realise they mostly came down in storms!
Best advent calendar ever. Thank you for this thoughtful gift. Have a very happy Christmas and love to you, Mike, Jenny and, of course ,Eva from us in Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
I wonder if cooking/baking with pine would impart Christmas flavours to different foods. I remember reading that some pine needles work well for making tea, so perhaps replace some liquid components with that? Christmas pine Yorkshire puds could be an interesting experiment..
Mike , I think that I may have come up with an activity which you might not have taken part in before in your locality you have easy access to most of the materials that you will require to succeed, Flint Knapping to produce your own blade. A few flinty nodules from your next beach walk and a couple of pieces of granite to use as striking stones and perhaps a trip to a charity shop to find an old leather handbag to cut a piece of leather to put on your leg as a working surface so you don’t end up with shards of flint getting through your trousers and into your leg. And on your woodland and countryside walks, you might be lucky enough to find a piece of cast off antler for nibbling the flint edges to make the shape of your flint blades more refined. You could even pick up a suitable piece of wood to mount the blade into as a handle using resin collected from injured tree limbs or trunks heated over a small fire to mix with some powdered charcoal to make the glue to anchor the blade to the handle and a thong cut from the remaining leather to bind them together, if you find enough leather you could also use some to make a sheath for your blade or even a primitive pouch to collect your foraged finds in from the countryside or the beach. Unless you’ve already tried this activity before and I’ve missed any videos of the process that you might have done?
Something funny happened during this video. I found myself playing the old Monty Python game of "Find the Fish" but with pointing out things to smell. Right about the time you smelled the bit of wood, I actually thought "Oooo, try that branch!". I suppose you had my full attention by that point.
Unironically, what an excellent concept for a video. I often visit my local (only five minute walk away) park just to experience the scent garden there.
The rush can be peeled and the soft inside soaked in fat to make a candle that would be held with a pincher so you could burn the candle at both ends!! Hence the saying.
Zoomies! 💜:::: Geosmin is the chemical compound responsible for earthy smells, such as earth (obvs), beetroot, mushrooms, etc. And we humans are extraordinarily sensitive to it, being able to detect as little as
Thank you for this video, a fresh perspective on walking in woodlands. Hopefully, I will be walking on Cannock Chase tomorrow and I will be putting my nose to good use . Thanks again I'm really enjoying your Advent Calendar and Eva is the icing on the cake with her zoomies.
Wow, this must have taken you a long time to prepare all these videos! You must have started back in January to get all this done. Are we going to have any like the Bake Off Christmas specials where they dress up in winter gear with fake snow but you can clearly see it's the height of summer behind them?
💜 Eva is powerful. Her zoomies made me laugh. I love the smell of damp earth. Nothing smells more wonderful. Except damp earth appreciated while holding a strong cup of aromatic black coffee. On a foggy morning while perhaps a loaf of yeasty bread baking in an oven. An wood fired oven. Ok, I'm just getting carried away. It's 4:44 am, I must try to sleep. Thank you, Mr. Shrimp, Mrs. Shrimp and Eva.
I love the idea of a surprise calendar video every day between now and Christmas, and I hope that one of them have been designated for when you reach a million subs, because that's certainly going to happen at some point before the 25th!
It can be a problem - deer and livestock are the real risk, so we are very careful about when and where we allow it to happen. Squirrels aren't such a problem as, once they run up a tree, the chase ends.
Thank you very much for the videos. They’re much appreciated on behalf of the community and myself. Sacrilege springs to mind when it comes to pineapple on a pizza. 😰 all I can say is it’s a preference to yourselves and I hope you enjoyed it but it’s not for me. Take care of your friends and family and bye for now.
Absolutely loved the Eva zoomies 😂
Me too and not bad for a 10 year old dog.
Best December ever to have a shrimpy video everyday! Very much looking forward to this series!
There is something so calming and grounding about the scents you encounter in the forest. I think I'll take a little forest walk today and smell things!
I could never really afford Advent Calendars, but this feels like one, thank you Mr. Shrimp 🥰
You might try creating one of your own. Put things and activities that you like in it, but ask someone else to decide which days to do or get what. That way, you can still have a small element of surprise. Or you could set one up on your computer. Just an idea.
@egris00 I'm actually doing one new drawing every day of this month :)) I'm doing this to stay productive and not get an artblock
The doggy in her raincoat is the cutest! Also, if literally any other creator made a video about smelling the Forrest I would not have clicked. Shrimp is the eccentric dad/grandpa we all need.
You just gave me an epiphany about why I love Shrimp’s videos so much. Dad stand-in 😂
I'm applying for adoption first! @@a-little-sunshine
Eva does make me laugh. I hope she gets a good Christmas present.
Loved the music at the end.
Or younger brother? for my age group 🙂
Love Eva zooming through the forest. Nothing quite as joyous as a dog just enjoying running free.

Eva's zoomies made me smile hugely!
I think there's a lot of truth in that. I know I use my sense of smell when foraging for mushrooms.
This is so much better than my chocolate advent calendar ☺ Thank you for the videos, Mike! All the best to you and your family ❤
I love that when you are describing how Eva experiences smells of the forest, you introduce her as 'one person'. Little four legged furry person in her purple coat :)
19:40 I'm just imagining that in between recordings he's running to Jenny saying "smell my fingers!"
I love how amidst the drama channels there's a guy who just smell the forest. Sure, it might be funny, but he brings so much more positivity into this world than any drama channels. I beg you, keep being yourself mr.shrimp.

Please don't feel under any obligation! It's here if and when you want it, and it'll wait if you're busy.
This is better than therapy. You're inspiring me to try and take a long walk tomorrow after taking care of anotger thing or two today. The best advent calendar ❤

"Wake up and smell the forest" has a nice ring to it.
As a queer teen whose youtube feed is mostly full of video game content and video essays, I've really enjoyed your slower-paced videos such as this one. Very excited for daily videos from this channel this festive month!
Thank you 2! I love the smell of wet fallen leaves, and ferns. ❤
Eva has the zoomies & I love it 🥰 Love the smell of forest, especially after is been raining ☔️😊Thanks for sharing Atomic shrimp & family 🤗🐾🌲

Never did 20 minutes go so quickly! Tomorrow I am going to go for a walk just to smell things (today it is raining).
"Kissing's out of season when gorse is out of flower" is such a great saying. I always have to stop amd sniff a good clump of gorse.
When I was in school we wandered around doing this for one trip, we were supposed to collect different things together and make any kind of combination, I don't think it was supposed to be as a perfume as such but that's how I saw it at the time I think
As a person with sensory hypersensitivity, I approve. I love walking through nature just for the smells alone. Off the beaten path is better too.
Thanks for making these. Needed some Christmas cheer as a military member deployed away from my wife and family over the holidays.
The larch...the larch
🐍🦅🏟️
The larch!
The. Larch.
😁
No mighty Scots Pine there though? Edit - AND A MIGHTY SCOTS PINE. The lumberjack's favourite, Surely.

It proper stinks of Christmas!
I loved the coloured pencil analogy!
While i couldn't smell what you were smelling it brought back all the memories of the forest and it was glorious
Great series, we get a daily Shrimp nugget.

I'm going to be irresponsible and watch this instead of going to bed. Thanks Shrimp.
I usually sniff the rosemary, lemon mint, roses, and interesting plants.
Was anxiously waiting for midnight for this video to come out on the west coast.

I miss the smell of good rich soil. I remember as a kid noticing after a rain it smelled of dirt and earthworms, and just being in love with it.
He most wholesome channel ever! Keep up the great work :)
Loved this idea and found myself sniffing several times. Loved seeing Eva zooming and smelling too. She reminds me of my late lamented Patterdale. 😊
Mike is living the saying "wake up and smell the flowers" that's an achievement we should recognise more.
A very, for me, inspiring video - Thanks Mike!
On the subject of Cucumbers..... Maybe, it's the cucumber that has changed?
Unironically, what an excellent concept for a video. I often visit my local (only five minute walk away) park just to experience the scent garden there.

The smell of decaying vegetation i.e. Compost is a wonderful smell. The soil (is that synonymous with earth) without compost is not so good.
Enjoyed this, including the subtle Monty Python reference.
Number 1. The Larch.
Thanks for a very enjoyable video, I suggest you don't take a wine connoisseur with you on a 'smell the forest' expedition you'd never get away!
Excellent !
This is so much better than my Lush advent calendar.
Mmmm.Monday smells like shrimp!
Thank you really enjoyed this
Merry Christmas 🎉

5:20 - ZOOMIES!!!
The Larch! I was hoping that reference might pop up at some point!
this is the only Advent Calendar worth getting :)
Edit: you repeating THE LARCH - is that the Monty Python's Flying Circus reference? :)
❤❤❤
Morning coffee with a little dose of Shrimp every day for the whole Decemeber. What a delight! Thank you :)
Wonder what forest zoomies smell like!
Ha ha ha ….. The Larch. …. I love me some niche Python in the morning 😀👍
Just commenting for the algorithm 💜
Neat idea! I’m looking forward to this series.
Thank you so much for this series. I recognize it’s a huge amount of work to do a video daily for a month, and it is very much appreciated.
Love this idea and I'm very much looking forward to enjiying everyday of this series
I thought you initially said it was a carnivorous forest. 🙄
Slaughter Valley idea right there - thank you!
@@AtomicShrimp you're welcome... I think 😂 I would love to see that installment.

I think I've been watching too many of your videos. I keep telling people "be rest assured" when I'm talking to people on the phone.
Dirt is always dirty, sticks are always sticky :D
ive recently started watching this channel and ive been absolutely loving it :-) 💖 so excited for the daily vids this month!!
I notice Ava goes off leash in a lot of your videos. Do you ever have a problem with her chasing rabbits, chipmunks etc?
