I have so much respect for PWS. My main self defense firearm is their MK109-an excellently designed and crafted firearm. I have heard for years and personally experienced amazing customer service from them. I’ve always wondered what the BRN-180 is like. The YT probably knew this and load this vid in my recommended list. PWS needs to bring back a 14.5 P&W rifle in 300BLK.
    Thanks for the vid.

Great video. Seems like they almost created the same situation as i've seen on some other rifles (Vz58 comes to mind) where shortening the piston system up to a certain point makes disassembly a pain. I had to do a lot of adjustment to get my BRN-180 to run perfectly suppressed which involved taking the gas regulator out a lot. Please double check concentricity before sending any rounds through a can if you decide to use the locknut, the .223 version has a shoulder to the threads that was concentric to me, but its always the best idea to check. Thanks!

Will always check concetricity! Thanks for the feedback, mine ran excellently suppressed with subsonics on the 1 gas setting.

I have one, this made me think there was an actual problem.. it’s inconvenient but I wouldn’t say this is a problem. Informative video though. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for the informative video. I was getting close to buying the new brn-180 300 BO upper. Unfortunate that they couldn’t figure out how to increase the spring life and still allow the user to disassemble the gas system. Other manufacturers like SIG have figured it out. Not sure if I’m going to pull the trigger on it or not now. Have to think about it. Thanks for the coupon code!

Yeah it is definitely something to think about. Not being able to disassemble the gas system is a major set back in my opinion.

@@kurtthegunsmith I agree, hopefully they come up with something different on the Gen3.

On mine, I can take the gas system apart. When I remove the hairpin retainer on the front of the gas system, it does allow enough clearance to take it apart.

Did you get yours recently? Curious if they fixed this problem or not

I ordered mine on November 6, 2023. I’m really enjoying this upper I’m using an AAC 762 SDN -6 suppressor. My only problem now is with the suppressor mount flash hider, it’s so big that I can’t take the hand guard off easily. to get my hand guard off I think I’m going to have to remove all my M lock accessories and undo all the hex cap screws. I really just don't plan on taking the hand guard off.

There isn't enough space to move the op rod back and leave the gas cup against the piston? I just posted a photo showing a 16" taken down on r/ar18 showing the new shoulder that saves the spring. Looks like the same parts without the middle connecting rod. You shouldn't be able to move the whole assembly so the cup moves all the way off the piston. I could see the new shoulder insert and stepped cut on the op rod preventing the rod from being able to be tilted out of the way when pushed back. I haven't seen this gas length in person, yet.

Unfortunately no you can't. As I said in the video, I contacted PWS about this and they said they've been working on another design that would allow the 10" barrel gas systems to be disassembled.

Hey there, how do you actually clean the gas system now since you can't take it apart as easily? Is it simply to take off the gas block? Thank you.

    • @kurtthegunsmith
      @kurtthegunsmith  Рік тому +3

Now you have to remove the roll pin on the gas block, slide it forward a 1/4" or so then remove the parts. The roll pin comes out nicely if you have roll pin punches and a vise.

I have the BRN180S Gen 2 in both Wylde and 300 BO and the Gen 2 16" carbine in Wylde. Hope you don't mind some questions...
Is that an A3 charge handle or is that stock on the SH variant?
I have the other 2 A3 styles - the straight round and the Straight curved. BTW, both flop around less than the original Dogleg style.
Are they not putting the charge handle slot cover on the SH?
    Thanks.

Is the brn 180sh a new release. All i see on brownells is the gen 2 brn 180s

@@kurtthegunsmith thanks. I noticed the new 180 sh is only for the 300blk not their 223 line up

    • @DreamCarries

@@Arabtone The major change with the 180 sh is the third gas setting to completely shut off the gas, which essentially acts like an insanely quiet bolt gun with 300 subs. I imagine this wouldn't be as useful with 223 that's practically always supersonic 👍
