    The Inquisition partially arose from the inspiration of Barriss's speech, so it's clearly going to be her reckoning with the past. I find it hard to believe that Barriss will remain an Inquisitor for long, maybe around a year.
    (In Rebels, the best move would have been to send Barriss after Ahsoka. The fact that they didn't do that suggests something happened, and Barriss is unavailable for some reason.)
    The only thing she has left is something the Inquisition won't easily take away from her, and that's her morality. Her morality makes her character not a villain but a very gray and complex character (meybe anti-hero). Barriss will hate herself for what she'll have to do, and she'll certainly feel powerless. She can't fight this; she has to accept the past and realities and leave, betray the Empire.
    Another scenario is her death.

    • @moodswings6238
      @moodswings6238 Місяць тому +13

      I can only imagine her staying with the Inquisition only if they convince her with reasoning along the lines that they’re providing peace, prosperity, security, and justice to their new empire which is a complete overhaul from the previous republic government. If her moralities become distorted enough she might stay.
      My main argument is that regardless of her views on the jedi temple she could have argued against them and leave peacefully when left unheard like Ashoka. Unfortunately her ethics has become twisted enough that she ends up bombing the temple leading to many innocents dying. Her reasoning may explain her actions, but it does not excuse them. While she’s coming from a good place, her extreme actions show that she’s indeed losing herself. The road to hell is paved in good intentions, a fine fit for manipulation for molding into the Inquisition.
      (sorry, typing on my phone btw)

      @@moodswings6238 "Peace, prosperity, security, and justice" - That sounds like Jedi lies, and let's be honest, the Inquisition is like a mini Jedi Order, only they don't necessarily lie.
      If there's something truly evil, Barriss will be the first to see it.
      Regarding Season 5, Barriss's intentions were noble and guided by her morality - the desire to end the war for the greater good. I agree it was wrong.
      In Season 5, it's worth paying attention to Barriss's facial expressions; she's literally broken by what she did. She's ashamed of herself.
      And that's likely what her character arc will focus on. All she has left is her moral code to be good and the Inquisition will try to take that from her.
      It won't be a failure for her to turn to the dark side because she doesn't even acknowledge the concept of light and dark. The real failure would be if she were indoctrinated and become mindless murderer.
      The only scenario I see where she voluntarily remains an Inquisitor is if Barriss believes it's all she deserves. That it's her punishment for everything, and she can't have anything more.

    If you think about it, Barriss is indirectly responsible for Anakin becoming Darth Vader. Sure, there was a multitude of reasons why Anakin fell to the Dark Side (Palpatine’s manipulation, the Jedi’s treatment of him, and his own fears of losing his loved ones manifesting into intense anger), but the one thing that cemented Anakin’s fall was Ahsoka leaving the Order.
    Barriss’ attack on the Order and framing Ahsoka for it (which almost lead to her death) was the catalyst for the fall of the Republic, the destruction of the Jedi, and the subsequent rise of Darth Vader. And, timeline wise, by the time we get to Tales of the Empire, as far as Anakin/Vader is concerned, Ahsoka is dead. Another fallen victim of Order 66.
    Vader hates himself for his actions, and feels nothing but constant pain and suffering everyday. He feels like he failed Padmé, he feels like he failed the Republic for siding with Palpatine. And the worst part is, he feels like he failed Ahsoka. His student, his best friend besides Obi-Wan, his little sister. And he felt like he wasn’t able to protect her. All because of one person; someone who Ahsoka considered a friend.
    I can only imagine the intense feelings that Vader might when he meets Barriss again. That anger, that hatred. Vader might’ve tried to put the past behind him, but Anakin Skywalker was never truly dead. The Dark Side corrupted his mind, but it didn’t destroy him entirely. So, whatever happens in TOTE, it’ll be interesting to see how or if Barriss manages to even stay alive after meeting Vader.

    Barris Offee is a Jedi who has my respect. Despite what she has done I don't believe she is truly evil. She loved the clone troopers under her command but she hated the jedi. And she did have a point when she revealed her motives to Ahsoka. In some ways I find that her hatred is Justified. The same can be said about Anakin Skywalker before he fell to the dark side and became Darth Vader. Somehow there were a few factors that justified his hatred for Jedi. But killing Jedi younglings was completely unjustifiable in and of itself. However, there was a comic that revealed his doubts about how he could actually go through with such a horrible Act. It was revealed that the dark side itself provided some kind of comfort for him and it made Anakin think that these younglings were taken from their parents and that nobody would want them and killing them was in a way, him doing them a favor. As completely unjustifiable as that is; I find it rather disturbing that the dark side could actually comfort someone like him into killing those younglings

    I think it’s a coin toss. Barriss certainly has fallen to the Dark Side and that not only usually ends badly, but it also feels like a sort of drug people can’t let go. Barriss also might feel like her views have been validated given the fall of the Jedi. Maybe she thinks the Jedi actually wanted to take over the government to stop the public from turning on them. Maybe she even wants revenge on the Jedi because they locked her up and are continuing the war by opposing the Empire alongside rebel groups.
    On the other hand Barriss may feel that becoming an Inquisitor would be an act of hypocrisy and a bigger betrayal of the Light Side than what the Jedi Order did. Maybe she does realize how she betrayed the Jedi Order and wants to help out the survivors from within. Maybe she sees how the Sith manipulated everything and wants revenge. Hearing about the terrible fate of her master and how Ahsoka is still on the run might affect her. Maybe she finds her connection to the Dark Side as painful and repulsive.
    It’s really a coin toss to me on what her fate is going to be. If she becomes an Inquisitor, she’s another fallen Clone Wars Jedi. If she ends up rejecting that path, she retained some of her Jedi teachings.

    6:31, It’s interesting to note that Legends specifically depicts Force Healing as a technique relatively normal Force-sensitives could learn, the exact opposite of how it is in the Disney Star Wars Era, where it takes particularly powerful or skilled Force-sensitives to be able to use it effectively, if at all, as it actually sacrifices their own health to heal others.
    It seems they are keeping some elements of Barriss’ portrayal as a healer in the new miniseries, as she is described as one in later episodes where she defects from the Inquisitorius and shown to be suspiciously old with seemingly little passage of time, suggesting she is still capable of the technique, only the health draining aspect of its depiction in this new Disney era means it makes her older if she uses it significantly.

    IIRC from your worst Jedi ever video (not disagreeing) Luminara's people had a permanent lock on padawans of their own species. That was a mistake, and it seems like these set-asides undermined the Order as much as anything else. Also kind of sad that she externalized all her resentment of Luminara onto the Order as a whole; not that they didn't have it coming for a lack of support (Like many an abused child, she was likely told to heed the one doing the abuse), but it almost seems like she still couldn't denounce Luminara and so turned against everyone, even when an accidental (at first) casualty was her only real friend. That scene outside the weapons factory comes off like a serious version of that TV scientist on Dinosaurs, who always stepped away while 'Timmy' conducted the insane experiment.

    While I don’t believe Luminara was a terrible Jedi master, I do believe she didn’t believe in her padawan as a person who needed her more as another person than as a teacher. I also believe Barris sadly never let this become more than festering hatred rather than to seek more beyond and to try and rectify or help herself.

    People would think Vader will have sheer hatred for Bariss and want to kill her, but I think the opposite, he may see himself in her and try to make her his dark apprentice, his own dark side version of Ashoka, trying to parallel his life as Anakin, maybe before he finds or near the time he finds Galen Marek if he is canon tho, but who knows tbh

      well, we don't see her in Rebels, and it would've been perfect for her to hunt down and confront Ahsoka. The fact she wasn't in Rebels suggests she's dead by that point, and I think it was likely Vader who killed her

    I know many people want her dead and is the most likely ending, but while logical I just can't find it satisfing its weird, we've been waiting 11 years to know her fate, expecting any opportunity. She was originally supposed to die at her confession, she didn't appear in rebels, the character went straight to the fridge, all because Filoni wanted to do something with her. So if in the end all that wait is just to see how she becomes an inquisitor and dies at the hands of Vader while doing absolutely nothing that just sucks, thats something they could've told in a one-shot comic at least 7 years ago

  • @DarknessGuard
    @DarknessGuard Місяць тому +1

    If Bariss recognizes Vader she might even start to think due her actions and Ahsoka leaving she indirectly contributed to Anakin becoming Vader since Ahsoka wasn't there to stop him and those negative emotions are great for the Sith to turn her. Other option maybe is she hates what Anakin has become and extents her believe that Asoka isn't any better. Both variants seem cool but knowing Disney... well let's say it will likely just be a disappointment.

    Secondary question: Why was Barriss in prison, when they seemed set to execute Ahsoka based on less evidence? This is a trope I cannot stand in fiction overall; The protagonist is unjustly convicted, and seems set to get the worst fate available - even the light anime 'Peach Girl' had this - but when the liar and schemer and real criminal is exposed, suddenly we have procedure and rights being heeded. Edit: It just struck me why this happened: Luminara. Somehow, even matters concerning punishment of their species are part of this set-aside. She advocated for prison for her padawan instead of execution. That almost has to be it.

    I'm going to be honest, I'm surprised in the Empire that Barriss Offee wasn't being celebrated as a martyr, and a hero to the Empire. She bombed the Jedi Temple, which could be seen as striking the Jedi preemptively before their betrayal. After all, if the Empire has shown, it doesn't give a damn about civilian casualties, or collateral damage, but they can never resist the chance to give the average Imperial Citizen an icon to cover up the obvious rot, because no one can resist a hero.

    I don't know, it's not uncommon for Jedi who join the Inquisitorius to become numb to the suffering of others or even relish in that suffering. Especially due to the constant infighting and power plays that happen within the organization.
    She could just as easily wined-up dead at the hands of a fellow Inquisitor seeking to further their status as being killed by Vader for failure. Hell Iskat Akaris (13th Sister) nearly died twice at the hands of a fellow Inquisitor; one was the 7th Sister and the other was Tualon.

    Personally, I don't see Barriss joining the Inquisitorius that long. Yes we know she's capable of murder or killing/framing Jedi for heinous actions. But condoning their widespread murder across the galaxy and letting ordinary citizens be oppressed? That feels like a bridge too far- the whole point of Barriss' choices was that she didn't like seeing the Jedi become soldiers.
