*UPDATE* Hey to the few in the comments, thank you. I could not get mine to update because the version on the downloader on the zr13 is incorrect on the website. If you go looking you will not find it. Instead go to the older zr15 that is the downloader you need. Version 2.4.41 is what you need. After that it’s just like the video yo !
Curious to know who has the download link for the Zurich ZR 13? I have this same model as in the video and I've also seen people complain of bricking there device which is what I'm trying to avoid at all costs, thanks for your help

I would add that there are TWO variants of the updater software on HFT's website. The Firstone I downloaded was called zurichupdater_v02.04.21_live.zip this one didn;t work, and whined about a missing printer. It saw the device but indicated no updates were available. I thought that odd since I got mine back in 2017 & you did this 2 years later. the Second file I downloaded from HFT's site was called: OBDUpdaterPC_V2.4.41_Live.zip, and I installed it over top of the first one. It's updating my ZR13 now. :)

This solution fixed my problem as well. But you might wonder, where can you find version 1.4.41? You'll need to download the updater for the Zurich ZR15.

Bought this in the summer of '18 and just updated it tonight after watching your video. Mine updated to version 18.----- and copyright 2020, anyways thanks for the guidance. Oh n BTW as someone had mentioned I also had to use OBDUpdaterPC_V2.4.41 other than complaining about a missing printer it worked fine, thanks again.
I have a Zurich ZR13 and watched your video first to see the update process. Looked simple. Well Harbor Freight with its 2 updates, I think is part of the problem. I downloaded the v02.04.21_live and found no updates. By the way my firmware was also 2017. So then I downloaded V2.4.41_Live and got the window for an update. Doing the update it deleted the firmware and database, and loaded the new firmware, but as it was loading the database, I got a message that the firmware load failed due to a cable being disconnected (untrue, nothing was touched), and to disconnect USB cable and reconnect it. I did that. It loaded the firmware, and when it got to the database, it would get to certain percentage and freeze, much longer than 20 minutes. During several attempts, I got it as high as 19% on the database and no more. The reason I'm writing this is to tell others that DON"T DO THE UPDATE! LEAVE IT ALONE, OR YOU WILL WINDUP "BRICKING" THE DEVICE. I did not have problems with the ZR13 before, but I was thinking the update might improve the ZR13. Instead, I wound up with a brick!
That is exactly what happened to me. And now it won't work on my car. It's useless. Is there a way to go back to the original version like it was when we bought it? Help!!

Same thing happened to me. First it would not read abs, Airbag, gave error. Worked fine on the same vehicle before this time. went to update, down loader, etc. would freeze and act exactly as stated above. BRICKED it!!! Paid for extra warranty so returned. 1 year later, same model is giving me the same vehicle errors, but firm ware is v17.07.03 updater states no updates available. A year later and no vehicle updates?? And out of extended warranty again. ALSO they are not bi direction, and will not read any cranking sensors, on ford 6.0 diesel, so if you have a dead ford diesel, it will only read stored codes, and running tests. Worked good on 2011-81 cruze, dart, avenger, chevy blazer, fixed multiple srs, abs. No immobilizer function though. It was good until it went bad, no warning, just became a bricked scanner overnight. Buying a better scanner this time, not a H Freight 1 year wonder. fyi only a 90 factory warranty to start with I recall
No, my update went very bad and now I can't use it on my car anymore. How can I unistall what I just did and get it back to where it was when I bought it.
I just purchased this unit as a "open box" item from Harbor Freight. It has 3 vehicles stored on it and I can't figure out how to remove them. I know that updating the firmware will remove saved data but this unit has already been updated so there is no option to update it on the Zurich Updater 2.4.21. It just says "No Updates Available" and I have the exact same versions as you after you updated. I have read through the entire full owner's manual (the one that is 101 pages) and there is nothing in there about resetting the unit or removing saved vehicle data. UPDATE: I called HF customer support and they informed me that there is no way to remove stored vehicles. It will always store 3 vehicles at a time and the oldest stored data will be automatically erased when it is connected to a new vehicle.
Thank you for alerting me of this BPSDetailing. Since I bought mine new this wasn't even thought of as an issue. Why couldn't they have an update that allows for the deletion of a vehicle other than doing an update of the unit? Should be a simple thing to do? So even if you buy a new vehicle you wouldn't be able to take out the old. I will try to call them and see if an update in the future [or a small patch update] could take care of this. Again, thanks for your input!
The only "update" I have had to this was when I first bought it around four years ago. There have been none since. Not sure this was worth it. Most scanners have yearly updates, albeit, some you have to pay for.
Even though my scanner says 19.06.05 2019 and I just bought it and downloaded the updated, it will not update the tool. It’ll say “follow instructions on the pc” but nothing happens. “Connected” “no updates available”.
@@starastronomer Well, the software is up to date but the programmer is a couple years behind. I can’t get the software to prompt a firmware update onto the scanner.
I need help, I got my zr13s second-hand, but the screen and the letters are upside down, do you think that if I update it, the screen will return to normal.
Didn't you test it before buying second-hand or was it given to you? The owner didn't tell you? I guess it can't hurt to update and see what happens or use as is. Very strange indeed
@starastronomer They gave it to me for the same reason that it has that fault and therefore that's how I'm using it but it's very difficult to read what it says and I looked in the manual to see if it had a screen adjustment but it doesn't say anything about that, I hope that with the update it will be fix.

I did pretty much what you did but when I connect my zr13s nothing happens I just have the follow instructions on pc message showing on my zr13s device but nothing changes in the updater

Scan tool Firmware V19.06.05 Boot loader V18.05.01 Database V19.06.05 If it is up to date it doesn't say it is.
I'm no mechanic but I can't afford to take my Durango to the garage and I need to find out why it cranks but doesn't start. Only thing I'm able to figure out right now is it seems it's not getting spark to ignite. The only people I know who work on cars only work on older models before everything went computerized give them an 87 Durango and they could do anything it needs but they don't work on newer cars and trucks.
Sukotto82 For some strange reason my UA-cam comments haven't been coming through. Just got a months worth tonight, sorry. I agree, older was SO much easier. Today it could be a hundred different things.

Nice Video!!! What happens when HF decides to discontinue these (Innova produced) scan tools like they did with the Cen-Tech scan tools (Autel produced). I was fortunate to be able to update my 60694 on the Autel website and convert it into an updated AL-519. Hopefully these Zurich units won't be left orphaned by HF and if they are there will be a way to update them! I hate to say it but, SHAME ON HARBOR FREIGHT!!!!!
Thanks Daniel. That is something out of our control with any product. Hopefully HF will continue update support or Innova will allow us to update the HF bought units at their site. I do agree HF should continue support for at least 10 years after they stop getting OBD II readers from a certain supplier.
I was updating my zr13 when my laptop shut off now my scanner says it’s fully updated but the database is empty meaning when I plug it into a car it will read the code but not give the details it usually does anyone know how to fix this?
I did it will continue to delete the firmware and re update it but it will not update the database it still reads codes but it’s now more or less downgraded to those cheap 30 dollar scanner now

(This is copy and pasted) Thank you for contacting Harbor Freight Tools. “It sounds as though the scan tools got bricked in the process of updating. Unfortunately, there is not a fix for this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

I've been sitting around for #$&@*! years waiting for an update, even re-downloading the Z13 update software several times. I revisited this site to ask a question if anyone knew of any updates, and here is the solution! Thanks guys. I've become an old man waiting....LOL! Think we should file a class-action against HF for all of those wasted years of our lives that we will never get back...haha
Edward...it is extremely cold here and didn't want to setup the equipment to do it. But, it went smooth. Turn the key in your vehicle to the ON position. Plug in the unit and it will go through a very short initialization and it's ready. Your vehicle is automatically detected and saved.
I updated and checked and it made it not work, took away the Real time monitoring and wouldn't find any codes even when hooked up as the car stalled and spit out a check engine light

The ZR15 update version is 2.4.41
The Zr13s Version is 2.4.57
I'm wondering if you can only update to 2.4.57 after the 2.4.41 update?
Btw guys, be sure to only use a usb 2.0 port. Some usb 3.x parts are not backwards compatible

My scanner kept turning on and off when I tried to scan a car, I hope that this update will fix that problem

Mine can only goes up to 2016, would this update increase the year so I can be able to to use it on my 2019 pilot?

I had mine for a year and its been working good .i just updated now .. and whats going to be the difference ?? More options or what ??

Try a different cable. You were probably using a power only cable and you need to use as data cable.

Can you try to do a re-update to the unit? Will it allow you to? I would give that a try if you haven't.

Would have been optimal to show the Reader connecting to the vehicle after the update, to demonstrate that it actually works.
