@@Revitauto I don't know anything about scanners, and I am not mechanically inclined at all. I need something that I can plug into my 2002 Nissan Frontier and have it tell me specifically the things that are wrong, so I can go buy the parts, look up the UA-cam video on how to swap them out, and do it without getting raked by a mechanic. Can this scanner help me accomplish that?
@@MasterArmedforces Unfortunately there is no magic scanner that will tell you exactly what’s wrong because there could be corrosion bro wires shorted wires which the scanner won’t tell you that it’ll give you an idea where to look and that’s it

This is one of the most unique and hands down BEST and completely work up of a Tool I’ve ever seen!! It was clear and precise and gave exclamations for pros and cons of the equipment tested! The only thing that was left out with pricing and I guess that’s up to the individual that wants to pursue purchasing equipment! Overall very well done!!
I was thinking the same thing But don't worry about the batterries They are just backup to fire the scanner up when its not connected to a car. I bought a ZR13 yesterday an I plugged it into a car without putting the batteries in and it worked just fine
It would help me tremendously if you would make a video on how to use this tool, and not just a review, on how to access the systems of the scan tool or how to graff some of the systems ect. This would be a big help THANKS.
Am thankful for this one, as I have a old Autel that is not only limited in what it can do, but is giving me problems lately, and am looking for a replacement.Edit:should add, this is one model that I am considering, so it was timely.
Which Model Autel do you have? And what type of work do you do? This scan tool is a great deal if you are looking to spend $200 or less. However, if you are looking to spend in the $300 dollar range I suggest the MD808 Pro from autel. The interface is not as easy to use as this scan tool in the video, but it has a TON of capabilities. We were able to diagnose and repair a parking assist system on a Avalanche with the 808.
The Autel is a early one from 2010 I believe..maybe 2009 even but we paid $400+ at the time, and as I said it hasn't worked correctly for awhile now. Work in fleet service, and things are tight right now for the shop, but will look into the MD808 you mentioned, although we're a bit peeved with Autel, who when we started having problems with our unit told us "we don't support that model anymore" yrs. ago!
It’s a descent scan tool but there’s a lot better for less money. I have a ZR13 and just purchased a Actron 9780. The Actron will display individual cylinder misfires (mode 6 data), also my truck 05 f150 has a fuel delivery issue. The Actron shows my fuel pressure dropping to as low as 6 psi under load while driving. The ZR13 doesn’t show a drop in fuel pressure. It stays around 45 psi.
I have this tool, and it's good however don't count on firmware updates from Harbor Freight. I bought mine about 4 years ago and they have never released a firmware update yet.
Buyer beware. Harbor Freight apparently has a Planned Obsolescence policy on its Zurich scanners. For example, the ZR13 scanner was discontinued not too long alog and the company will not provide any software updates. I bought the scanner in 2018 but it is now useless for many cars 2020 forward. You will probably want to go with a company that supports their equipment even after they replace the old model with a "new" one.

Also even more curious of the diagnostic tools that allow you not only to read codes but write instructions to control a device like opening a vent flap , or turning on/of RDP or lights ,..etc. Normally these are much price and even more confusing on which ones cover which.
@@Revitauto Is the live data feature just the ability for these odb2 to have an o-scope in them for current,voltage, and sensor/transducer output/input viewing of the graphs? If so that's a major feature but i question how good it could be for a small screen odb2 tool. Fixassist questionable on how much added benefit to it ,it really is.
Outstanding video! Please forgive my ignorance, but I am a mechanic from the Army in the late 1980's, and just now finally getting back in to it. Will this item, and others like it, work on a diesel engines, such as the 2018 Ram 2500 with a Cummins engine?
Short Story- I do not know Longer Story-Not sure if it will work on a 2018 Cummins, have not had one so new walk in. I did try it on a clients Mercedes 2018 GL Bluetec and it communicated with everything when performing a full system scan. But not when I tried to go directly to the PCM, I was not able to retrieve codes. If I get the chance to scan a new Cummins I will be sure to let you know! Happy Motoring! -Blair
I looked at this tool from Harbor Freight and it says and I quote, "The All-system-scan feature reads and clears the trouble codes in all systems, including ABS, SRS/Airbag, TPMS and others." Is there any other information this tool can give you about the TMPS? Does is show which sensor might be bad or have a low battery and can it reprogram a new sensor? Thank you for the review.
I recommend getting it at advanced auto, its made by innova just rebranded, get you a 25% code at advanced and get it cheaper than at harbor freight with a 1 year warranty vs a 90 day from harbor freight. Yes you can add a warranty at harbor freight, but it was already cheaper before that at advanced auto with 25% coupon.
Quick question.... I bought one of these back in Feb.2019 but I can't remember if the LED Light on the end of the Cord at the Connection had more than one LED Light....I seem to remember there being more that one on the Left hand side. Mine now only has one. Thanks in advance !
Been curious on the different zurich models i see ZR13 OBD2 Code Reader with ABS/SRS/FixAssist® ZR11 OBD2 Code Reader with ABS ZR4 OBD2 Code Reader ZR8 OBD2 Code Reader with Live Data I get abs for antilock brakes codes , srs for air bags code and fix-assist is some helpful hints in fixing the issue. But interms of significance is there like a way to try out the different code readers/scan tools before you buy because your really taking a chances. Not knowing what the significants of the different features cover and for what makes/models. I mean whats the major benefit to having the added features of abs or srs , or live data ...etc interms of just zr4 i just don't see the major benefits yet. Normally a basic scan reader for me so far is enough as i am pretty good troubleshooting it the old fashion tools / method ways but this may not always be the case going by the limited different types of cars i have troubleshooted.
Hmm, that is interesting, there is a tech support line harbor freight has for the Zurich line up. These are Innova scan tool rebranded, says so in the owners manual!
Also curious does with this zurich tool if your battery is completely dead can you power the ECM and modules thru your batteries on the zurich. Normally i see alot of people need a special/separate cable for the condition of reading obd2 when battery power isn't available anymore at all... Normally this condition isn't a huge deal as hooking up a spare battery would be enough...but regardless you could reach a weird situation where the ecm or modules that odb2 scan tools query for codes needs power itself.
I have never scanned for codes from a car with a dead battery, I always will put a jump box or a good battery in. The other thing is that when a battery dies a lot of the stored codes are going to be lost from the ECM. I also do not think that you can power the ECM via the OBD2 Port. Hope this helps! Do you think the scanner would be compatible with a 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS ABS system? I have ABS light on and I changed out the front speed sensor on the driver's side but I've tried several tools that would not communicate with my ABS system no problem with the SRS but for some reason ABS cannot communicate trying to find a tool that will .so I can turn out the ABS light and see if I fix the problem or if there's another sensor I need to address. There are some issues that we have had communicating with older Toyota and ford abs systems. Your car most likely provides abs flash codes. Look under your hood and see if there is a separate diagnostic port. In your car, it should be located next to the fuse box. Can this scan tool work for progamming 2001 jeep grand cherokee key fobs and 2011 dodge journey crew key fob and downloard the pin codes. Both vehicles hv come with 1 key both are programmed, dealers want to charge 120.00 buck for key and fob, I also found that sellars do this so to come back and steal cars later. So i want to clear all other missing key,which will cost another 50.00 bucks. So i was gonna buy one of the 600.00 buck one and help family and friends and make it pay for itself.
Hi Channel, I do not think this scan tool can program the key fob into the system. Some vehicles like chevy do not actually require a scan tool to add additional key fobs, but I do not know how it clears all the codes. I hope this helps! Happy Motoring-Blair
Dakota Digital makes a module to correct your speedometer. It's adjustable via bluetooth. It will also correct the shift points for the electronically controlled transmission. It's easy to hook up. I have one on my 97 S-10 and it works great. I changed my ring & pinion from 3.08 to 3.42,so I needed to connect mine because it was making the speedometer run fast. I think about 11mph fast.
I will be sure to upload a video on this! The short of it is, a stored code is a current code. That means on multiple drive cycles your codes parameters have been met indicating a trouble code to appear. A Pending code means over a few drive cycles the codes parameters have been met and then gone away, and are intermittent. History codes mean that the code was once there but no longer does the cars systems meet the parameters for a code to be shown. Example of that would be lets say your car overheated, for being low on coolant. You replace the thermostat and fix the leak, no more overheat issues, and after a few drive cycles the car notes that it no longer has overheating issues and the code is stored as history.
I have a sienna 2007 and looses power going uphill, but no engine lights.. I did oil and filter change also a new air filter i check for leaks.. Mechanics suggest to take it for a diagnostic, but charge $120-180. Would this help to find put what could be wrong with my van? My guess is it might need new sparkplugs..
Instead of purchasing this you may want to first try going to an advanced Auto parts. Call ahead and see if they can scan your car for codes. If there is no light on you don't have any codes stored to help point you in the right direction. That said it is also possible that your check engine light is on but the lighting element is damaged, so it does not show. The first thing you can check at home, is exhaust flow. Clogged exhaust can cause a rare no code situation and reduced power. Compare you exhaust to other car exhaust and if it feels like very little air comes out you have a clogged exhaust system. I don't believe so. Relearn programming is usually only found in higher end models. You can Google search what tools do that and I remember seeing some on eBay for around $400-600.

I believe it will, under live data function it can read a majority of the sensors. I will try and find a mopar product to test this on and report back!
A permanent code means that the system that the code is reported in has had multiple drive cycles that the issue has been observed. A pending code means that it has seen that oberservation but it has not occurred every time. Does that clear it up for you?
I am not sure what the price point to feature set up is, I will check our lower end scanners and see if they can do it. And I will check if the 13 can. I am pretty sure the ZR15 can.
Done an update on this and now all it says is scan tool memory There are currently no saved vehicles in the tool. I have no idea what to do now. Someone please help.

@@Revitauto I didn't realize that this tol doesn't have any lighting for the Keys on the unit. Really dumb design flaw as far as I am concerned....love the scanner but it needs lights for the Control keys !

from what i have gathered it dont do live data even tho it says it does. seems certain live data on certain vehicle sit can not capture the data for some reason. but lot that im sure has to do with manufactures who block certain tools in the ecu. meaning they want techs to buy the tech 2 tool. i have seen guys who have 5-6 scanners. tried all of them on a car none worked. he borrowed a scan2tool and it worked 100%. and the scan 2tool was older and was using a old car. so im starting to really think manufactures put some kinda scan tool block in the ecu that prevents many from making changes. it kinda makes sense too cause if they didnt some people would reprogram their ecu and cause problems then blame manufacture or cause problems that could cause wrecks. i cant rem the name of a performance scanner off hand but a friend had one that caused problems to his diesel cause he tried to reprogram the way engine ran. then he had to get his ecu flashed and it fixed all his problems.
Daviddawson Dan we got live data from the tcm on vehicles that's give that data. What year car are you working on? Most vehicles do not give you solenoid or line pressure from a diagnostic port. Normally that is done on test ports on the transmission.
I bought this tool and out the box it worked fine, but as soon as I upgraded the firmware it no longer showed detailed real time Info all it would show was RPM, engine temp, and Vehicle speed, so if anyone buys this Don't Update it or it will stop working, it wouldn't even find codes that it did 2 hours before the update and thats with it monitoring in real time as the car stalled and the engine light came on
@@Revitauto I would if I could, finding any info about this firmware trouble is near impossible, they have no offical website that I can find, I just left a scathing review on Harbor freights website I have the Zr8 btw, and I'm pretty pissed they have a 20% restocking fee on this item and your weren't allowed to use any coupons with the purchase either
So far it has worked well on the two Mercedes and one BMW that we have scanned. Will be scanning for codes on a 2005 Jaguar in the next few days. I have not had it on enough german euro cars yet.
Yes it diagnosed a defective switch sensor inside my driver side seatbelt on my 02 Honda Odessey . Just needed to spray contact cleaner on the switch and that fixed the problem.
Does anyone know if this is capable of resetting a alcohol content percentage. I have a 2011 silverado flex fuel vehicle that is mis-calculating the content of the gas and ive replaced and checked MAF, O2, TPS... And more. Next step i would like to try is resetting the computer
What year make and model car are you working on? Air bag lights are not like check engine lights. If that system detects a fault as soon as you hit clear it checks again and if it fails it kicks the light back on. You need to fix the problem .
You can monitor O2 Sensor data live, as far as hidden DTC codes. I am not sure exactly what you mean, what year make model car are you working on that has the cruise control light flashing?
thanks for reply. I am working on Toyota Rav4 2007. The cruise control light flashes when I turn on the cruise control switch but it does not engage. Just for information I have error code P0420 (Bad catalytic converter) and not sure if they are related.
@@Revitauto I'm interested in it for a 2017 Nissan Rogue 2.5L with CVT. To do a fluid change, or d&f, CVT temp is required to get accurate level after refill. Been looking for a self contained scanner that will read the temp and do other things. Not looking to break the bank.

I bought one a couple weeks ago, works great. I was able to reset a engine light on my wife’s escape that my previous scanner wouldn’t reset.

The screen scratches are on a plastic film, which is meant to be removed if you really give a damn. I'll just keep it on there.

On that E250 it will give a flash code with the airbag light as soon as the key is turned on, no need for a scan tool

I am not sure how you could clear the cache for the saved vehicles. I do know that they fall off as you add more diagnostic and vehicle hook ups.

Hmm, that is interesting, there is a tech support line harbor freight has for the Zurich line up. These are Innova scan tool rebranded, says so in the owners manual!
Also curious does with this zurich tool if your battery is completely dead can you power the ECM and modules thru your batteries on the zurich. Normally i see alot of people need a special/separate cable for the condition of reading obd2 when battery power isn't available anymore at all... Normally this condition isn't a huge deal as hooking up a spare battery would be enough...but regardless you could reach a weird situation where the ecm or modules that odb2 scan tools query for codes needs power itself.
I have never scanned for codes from a car with a dead battery, I always will put a jump box or a good battery in. The other thing is that when a battery dies a lot of the stored codes are going to be lost from the ECM. I also do not think that you can power the ECM via the OBD2 Port. Hope this helps! Do you think the scanner would be compatible with a 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS ABS system? I have ABS light on and I changed out the front speed sensor on the driver's side but I've tried several tools that would not communicate with my ABS system no problem with the SRS but for some reason ABS cannot communicate trying to find a tool that will .so I can turn out the ABS light and see if I fix the problem or if there's another sensor I need to address. There are some issues that we have had communicating with older Toyota and ford abs systems. Your car most likely provides abs flash codes. Look under your hood and see if there is a separate diagnostic port. In your car, it should be located next to the fuse box. Check out this site to find out how to use a jumper wire to have the flash codes on your dash show.

can i use it for tire sensors on a lancer. My light is on but i changed them recently but my mechanic didnt know to program them.
You can not, and most tire sensors need to be activated with the tire deflated.

Can this scan tool work for progamming 2001 jeep grand cherokee key fobs and 2011 dodge journey crew key fob and downloard the pin codes. Both vehicles hv come with 1 key both are programmed, dealers want to charge 120.00 buck for key and fob, I also found that sellars do this so to come back and steal cars later. So i want to clear all other missing key,which will cost another 50.00 bucks. So i was gonna buy one of the 600.00 buck one and help family and friends and make it pay for itself.
Hi Channel, I do not think this scan tool can program the key fob into the system. Some vehicles like chevy do not actually require a scan tool to add additional key fobs, but I do not know how it clears all the codes. I hope this helps! Happy Motoring-Blair
Great video does this device can do odometer correction ?
Dakota Digital makes a module to correct your speedometer. It's adjustable via bluetooth. It will also correct the shift points for the electronically controlled transmission. It's easy to hook up. I have one on my 97 S-10 and it works great. I changed my ring & pinion from 3.08 to 3.42,so I needed to connect mine because it was making the speedometer run fast. I think about 11mph fast.
Can you explain the difference between Stored, Pending and History display on DTC codes.
I will be sure to upload a video on this! The short of it is, a stored code is a current code. That means on multiple drive cycles your codes parameters have been met indicating a trouble code to appear. A Pending code means over a few drive cycles the codes parameters have been met and then gone away, and are intermittent. History codes mean that the code was once there but no longer does the cars systems meet the parameters for a code to be shown. Example of that would be lets say your car overheated, for being low on coolant. You replace the thermostat and fix the leak, no more overheat issues, and after a few drive cycles the car notes that it no longer has overheating issues and the code is stored as history.

I have a sienna 2007 and looses power going uphill, but no engine lights.. I did oil and filter change also a new air filter i check for leaks.. Mechanics suggest to take it for a diagnostic, but charge $120-180. Would this help to find put what could be wrong with my van? My guess is it might need new sparkplugs..
Instead of purchasing this you may want to first try going to an advanced Auto parts. Call ahead and see if they can scan your car for codes. If there is no light on you don't have any codes stored to help point you in the right direction. That said it is also possible that your check engine light is on but the lighting element is damaged, so it does not show.
The first thing you can check at home, is exhaust flow. Clogged exhaust can cause a rare no code situation and reduced power. Compare you exhaust to other car exhaust and if it feels like very little air comes out you have a clogged exhaust system. Happy Motoring !

I don't believe so. Relearn programming is usually only found in higher end models. You can Google search what tools do that and I remember seeing some on eBay for around $400-600.

I believe it will, under live data function it can read a majority of the sensors. I will try and find a mopar product to test this on and report back!

I have the same scanner Mine brought up permanent codes what does that means?
A permanent code means that the system that the code is reported in has had multiple drive cycles that the issue has been observed. A pending code means that it has seen that oberservation but it has not occurred every time. Does that clear it up for you?

I am not sure what the price point to feature set up is, I will check our lower end scanners and see if they can do it. And I will check if the 13 can. I am pretty sure the ZR15 can.

It’s ok! The saved vehicles are referring to cars you have recently scanned for codes! So it should still work perfectly fine!

from what i have gathered it dont do live data even tho it says it does. seems certain live data on certain vehicle sit can not capture the data for some reason. but lot that im sure has to do with manufactures who block certain tools in the ecu. meaning they want techs to buy the tech 2 tool. i have seen guys who have 5-6 scanners. tried all of them on a car none worked. he borrowed a scan2tool and it worked 100%. and the scan 2tool was older and was using a old car.
so im starting to really think manufactures put some kinda scan tool block in the ecu that prevents many from making changes. it kinda makes sense too cause if they didnt some people would reprogram their ecu and cause problems then blame manufacture or cause problems that could cause wrecks. i cant rem the name of a performance scanner off hand but a friend had one that caused problems to his diesel cause he tried to reprogram the way engine ran. then he had to get his ecu flashed and it fixed all his problems.
What about tcm codes or live transmission solenoid pressure test/monitoring.
Daviddawson Dan we got live data from the tcm on vehicles that's give that data. What year car are you working on? Most vehicles do not give you solenoid or line pressure from a diagnostic port. Normally that is done on test ports on the transmission.
I bought this tool and out the box it worked fine, but as soon as I upgraded the firmware it no longer showed detailed real time Info all it would show was RPM, engine temp, and Vehicle speed, so if anyone buys this Don't Update it or it will stop working, it wouldn't even find codes that it did 2 hours before the update and thats with it monitoring in real time as the car stalled and the engine light came on

@@Revitauto I would if I could, finding any info about this firmware trouble is near impossible, they have no offical website that I can find, I just left a scathing review on Harbor freights website I have the Zr8 btw, and I'm pretty pissed they have a 20% restocking fee on this item and your weren't allowed to use any coupons with the purchase either
Will this work well with German cars - BMW, Mercedes etc.?
So far it has worked well on the two Mercedes and one BMW that we have scanned. Will be scanning for codes on a 2005 Jaguar in the next few days. I have not had it on enough german euro cars yet.
I am able to use it on my 2003 Porsche Boxster S. In addition to my 2001 Ford Ranger and 2015 Mazda 6.

What year car are you looking to set the command timing at? I will find a vehicle with that same engine. I do not think it has this feature.

Yes it diagnosed a defective switch sensor inside my driver side seatbelt on my 02 Honda Odessey . Just needed to spray contact cleaner on the switch and that fixed the problem.

Does anyone know if this is capable of resetting a alcohol content percentage. I have a 2011 silverado flex fuel vehicle that is mis-calculating the content of the gas and ive replaced and checked MAF, O2, TPS... And more. Next step i would like to try is resetting the computer

What year make and model car are you working on? Air bag lights are not like check engine lights. If that system detects a fault as soon as you hit clear it checks again and if it fails it kicks the light back on. You need to fix the problem .

You can monitor O2 Sensor data live, as far as hidden DTC codes. I am not sure exactly what you mean, what year make model car are you working on that has the cruise control light flashing?
thanks for reply. I am working on Toyota Rav4 2007. The cruise control light flashes when I turn on the cruise control switch but it does not engage. Just for information I have error code P0420 (Bad catalytic converter) and not sure if they are related.

@@Revitauto I'm interested in it for a 2017 Nissan Rogue 2.5L with CVT. To do a fluid change, or d&f, CVT temp is required to get accurate level after refill. Been looking for a self contained scanner that will read the temp and do other things. Not looking to break the bank.
