I'm genuinely astonished at how psychotic Ellen has managed to make herself sound in a "cute" Zelda game
I mean.... Link's Awakening uses Dark Souls logic for enemy fights, so... you know... it's not like the older games were LESS violent... just had different weapons.
If anything they were more violent. I don't think you could even finish 4 Swords without the 3 other swords..

Saying "Whee this game was so much fun!" Just feels different when the game is about massacring thousands of enemies.
The jokes are only dark because the enemies died.

I like how they've decided to have little old Impa be badass Impa as well. (And I love the vaguely Link to the Past vibe of the artstyle here, I'd love a remake of that game)

I immediately noticed at the Nintendo Direct when Echoes of Wisdom was revealed that Zelda is basically a Nercomancer when she kills, and then summons said deceased creatures to fight on her behalf. It makes sense. There's a lot of dark undertones... Like the Blood Moon... People just overlook because "It's a Legend of Zelda game", but if you look at the recent backstory, it's pretty dark: Ganon invades Hyrule, many heroes band together to stop him, but he ultimately defeats everybody and turns Hyrule into a literal Hellscape of monsters.
Here's a comparison that will possibly destroy your concept of gaming, but..... makes sense when you think about it....
Dark Souls is just a 3-d Zelda game with a different story and more complex gear/stats system.

I’m still waiting eagerly to get to play Zelda in a Breath of the Wild style game, but my kids and I are going to have so much fun playing this one together, so I’ll take it!
Zelda in a BOTW style game would be amazing!
It's not *quite* that, but there are BotW and TotK mods that let you play as either Linkle or Zelda
The mention of CDi Zelda is made even worse by there being two games with her, with the second one being so terrible that it has nothing redeeming about it compared to the two previous platformers.
I recommend looking up any behind the scenes for the second game if you can. They don't look great in the game itself, but the miniatures used for the background and enemies is surprisingly well done.
All the horror games ellen played must've rubbed off on her because it sounds like she basicaly turned it into a horror game (for the enemies). Ellen you are a truly amazing woman. Dont ever change

It's not the first mainline Zelda game where you play as Zelda, it's just the first one where she's the main character. The first one where you played as Zelda was Spirit Tracks.
Haven't been really fine since 2020 but I'm here for Zelda bludgeoning enemies with a rock :D
You also play as Zelda in Cadence of Hyrule, the sequel to Crypt of the Necrodancer. If you like rhythm games, I highly recommend it!
My fave game where you play as Zelda is that Hyrule Warriors game.
I adore Ellen's laugh especially with the dark humor stuff.

I haven't bought a zelda since botw (not out of protest, just not a huge zelda player, though botw was a lot of fun!) and... I will DEFINITELY be buying this one!
It looks so great! I wasn't into the artstyle for the Link's Awakening remake but that's because I'm old and Link's Awakening on Gameboy Colour was my first video game so the original artstyle holds a special place for me, but I think it really suits this game's feel!
This, Metaphor, and Slitterhead are the three games I am REALLY looking forward to this year!

Zelda: "Oh no? I'm the princess. Guards, arrest that man and deliver him to Ganon."

May I suggest Cthulhu saves Christmas for either Hallowstream or Christmas vids? It's so perfectly on brand.
OMFG I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE BED! You really can summon one to rest wherever you want?! That's amazing! In the last Zelda game I played, that fussy princess stole my house! Sure I was given the chance to build another one but still!!! She can go camping in this one and leave my private property alone!

The Meat thing has been around since the first LoZ. It was even called "bait" in that one, IIRC.

I’ve watched enough Hitman 3 ways to play to be suspicious of Mike’s concern here. Give Zelda an exploding duck and he’d be on board.

Looks like a fun game, definitely gives off some Animal Crossing/Dragon Quest Builders vibes... One lovely thing about Dragon Quest Builders 2 is that they removed the "room" requirement for using a bed, so if you're out and about and need a rest or need to sleep through the night, you can plonk down a bed anywhere you want, then use it! (In the first game, the bed had to be in a functional room before you could use it).

I initially misheard Ellen say "Luke's Awakening".
Good, brighter clothing colours!! Well done, draws the focus to presenters but maintains the relaxed atmosphere of the background elements. Much easier on the eyes and less distracting from the content. Would prefer lapel mics as the boom mics cover your mouths and keeps you from being expressive with mannerisms and hands but hey, thats just personal preference. Thanks for covering this, I've been intrigued but apprehensive. 😊

1. Luke's departure turned Ellen into a murderous psycho.
2. Luke left *because* Ellen is a murderous psycho.
