Bobby was 'made' during the entirety of the series. He was made long before he ever made his bones; which is why Tony made him earn them on the French guy after they had the fight @ the lake house. Bobby was made early on because of his father, and was just a bitch boy for Junior until he be came Tony's underboss. But he was made the entire series
The fundamental question is, will he be as effective as a hitter like his dad was? And he will be, even more so? But until he is, it's going to be hard to verify that he thinks he'll be more effective.
He was accepted because there was shortage and he was a type of blind follower. Not saying he was dumb, but he was bit naive and that's what Tony needed. Friendly believer instead of calculating snakes.
Tony was at first trying to eat healthy but ultimately gave into his temptations and got the steak and onions also. But I guess he ate the eggs and tomatoes also.
Tony's face when Bobby told him uncle June loved him it was like even though he was dismissing it he couldn't help but love hearing it, like the kid in him came out again seeking approval. Love sopranos for all the subtle stuff
I love the Soprano's for this reason. It isn't always cinematic. Sometimes people do say stupid shit. It's funny that they capture these moments. People aren't always at their best.
The Sopranos keeps having those character say dumb things in order to underscore the point that these guys are not well educated and not particularly sharp.
NC7491 common mundane and unflattering behaviours were pretty well established in the writing style, my favourite being that tony would always parrot things other characters had said to him that he thought were profound, usually to try and come across as insightful himself.
That was comedy gold. Not so much at Tony not laughing, but the fact that we all know dam well, maybe a few days or even a week later, he was doing his normal routine and all of sudden remembers and now can’t stop thinking about it until it gets to the point where it more than likely became something that made him laugh to himself every time!! We all have been there before cracking up to ourselves thinking about something stupid that one friend we all have said that you either ignored at the time or tried to pay no mind to!! Bobby was the cousin or uncle we all wanted, but didn’t deserve! 😞😢
I think he doesn't laugh because it wasn't that funny but also because he didn't want Bobby to feel like he had to make jokes about himself or his dad (who Tony got killed). Aside from maybe Silvio, Bobby was by far Tony's most capable and trustworthy employee and friend.
@@flightofthebumblebee9529The Terminator? Tony didn't get him killed. He took on the job willingly because he was on his way out from his cancer anyways.
It was that infamous “bear left” joke that ultimately got Bobby clipped. When word about the joke got to Uncle Phil in New York, the call was made to the zips right there and then. The guy was practically a calzone with legs, and never put any serious thought into salads. Besides, they couldn't let jokes like that exist at the top level of any social club. It’s embarrassing.
I'm tempted to call Phil a hypocrite because of the ice cream cone, however he compromised and true it out da window as Tony was chasing him. Then again maybe the no ice cream in the car was a rule put in place after his car went askew and ended up in a major collision and he never felt like he was sitting at 12 o'clock anymore.
That's his best friend right there. Bobby even gives Tony an assault rifle that Tony eventually uses to protect himself. No one ever gave Tony a gift like that. A gift that protects you even when the giver is dead. I loved Bobby.
It wasn’t until that powerful gesture by Bobby that it dawned on me. Nobody ever gave gifts like that, especially to Tony. The only gifts given between friends were favors, stuff you can get something in return for, or stuff that was stolen and cost them nothing to lose. Bobby went out and paid for that AR and gave it to Tony to keep him and his family safe. I love Bobby Bacala.
Bobby Bacala was such a great character. In my opinion, one of the most stand-up guys. That conversation between him and Tony about his promotion always seemed beautiful to me because of how they let out so much about his character being true to the game. He never tried to force a step up the leader, even if he knew he was more deserving of it than others. He tells Tony that it should have happened sooner. He was never like all the others that kept insisting for a promotion. In the end they all were either irresponsible or abusive of their new position of they got it.
Jocelyn Carter: I liked Bobby. To me he was too sweet to be part of the crew. He was really nice to Janice and he tried to get along with Tony. When Bobby and Tony got into that fight Bobby really felt bad about it. When he got shot and killed I cried and really felt bad for Janice.
I think what makes Bobby so great is that he evolved so much over the course of the show. He first appeared as a background character who was mainly comic relief and grew into a capable and reliable member of the crew. He became more ruthless but was still comparatively a softy.( he becomes more aggressive and would punish people if he wasn’t respected and he still made his money as a racketeer/ their/ blackmailer/ killer but he wasn’t a sadist/ or abusive person. granted in network shows he’d be hardcore but for cable/r rated stories he’d a decent dude.)
