Hearing Mike talk about how versatile the jelly/plant is all i can think of is Bubba Gump "You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it." 😂😂😂
haha I can see Forest waving on that boat xD
Shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo 😂
Adventure time right?
🤣
Mike, there are savoury desserts in Japan. The noodle dessert you had is a konjac noodle version of the savoury dessert "tokoroten", which normally has agar agar noodles instead. The sauce is close to ponzu sauce with soysauce, mirin and vinegar. You usually put a little bit of the spicy mustard on as well.
Eating dessert at the end of the meal isn't part of Japanese food culture but a foreign thing that's become more common in recent decades. Japanese meals often have sweet-savoury dishes in them so there's no idea of having a sweet treat at the end to contrast with the savoury meal. Instead, Japanese desserts and confectionaries are helpers to drink green tea during tea time. So if it helps you drink the bitter green tea, it doesn't matter if it's sweet or savoury, because it's not a contrast to a savoury meal.
Wait so japanese called it agar-agar?
the cold noodles at the end were labeled "hiyashi chuka" aka Chinese style cold noodles... it's not dessert lol. the one above it is supposed to mimic raw liver sashimi. I think that was just the cold food bar, so regular food plus dessert
Konjac (or konyaku in Japanese) is a standard item put into Oden. And people often put spicy mustard on Oden so it is not really unusual to have konjac with spicy mustard. Oden is often considered a winter food since it warms you up well and putting spicy mustard on the items makes one feel even warmer. If people want an easy way to eat konjac in Japan, just go to any convenience store selling Oden and take the white or grey jelly thing in there along with some other items.
Its snappy, got it 😂😂
If i hear him say “snappy” one more time😅🤣
Are you gonna....snap? 😂😂
What do you expect, it’s like a rubbery jelly.
”Wow i never seen a kiwi tree before”
I didn’t even know kiwis grow on trees tbh idk even know why but i never even tought about where kiwis grow
Definite change of pace. Liked it.
I only tried konjac jelly in a dessert. I was surprised by how firm it is. I'd love to try all those different dishes. 😋
Mike is exploring everything in the world, really love it when u choose to appreciate nature than just taking a cab
Japan is Awesome 🇯🇵
👍🐱 4:10
How was your gastro situation after all that konjac? Did more research after watching this video and seeing articles of gastro distress - no cal so people eat too much and get backed up from that much fiber.
Free jelly buffet just sounds so funny. You had me laughing throughout. 😂 And then you actually liked everything and said you’d go everyday. Gotta love your enthusiasm.
I actually love konjac too, in oden, and my kid loves Japanese jelly snacks. Thanks for showing us, cuz otherwise I doubt we trek out there! We’ve also been enjoying your other videos past couple months. 👍
I would buy konjac jellies and have them in the fridge at work for a zero calorie treat, but someone kept stealing them, so I refilled empty containers with soap water. Thief ate two of them before noticing. REVENGE! Anyway, this was interesting - all we get are the jellies and the zero noodles here in Australia. I hope we get more varieties soon.
Be careful sharing that. It's Illegal to knowingly tamper food. But nice one! Lol
@@ambermcollier it's not illegal to change the contents of your own food
Only the food of someone else :)
@@ambermcollier No, it's not illegal to eat soap. If they wanted to steal my food and end up eating the soap I wanted to eat, that's on them.
@Amber C I means she's just being resourceful, reusing containers for other purposes. Very asian thing to do. Kinda like reusing butter containers... not our fault someone ate the thing in YOUR container
@@lilaznoreo exactly! Very well put. I do save all my water bottles and plastic bags for reuse, after all. I'll hire you as my lawyer :D
I need a free buffet in my life.
👍🐱 5:08
So you're telling me that there is a food out there that can be made into tons of different dishes both sweet and savory, is very affordable and has little to no calories? And I'm just hearing about it now???
i love Strictly Dumpling but i'm curious how many people would click on this video if it was titled "FREE KONJAC BUFFET! All You Can Eat FREE JAPANESE KONJAC BUFFET.
And I dig Konjac, but I wouldn't travel 15min to visit a Konjac factory, nevermind an hour! I'd have to be paid to visit......... And something tells me that that might have been the case here
I would click, coz Konjac cost a lot in EU.
I have ordered Shirataki noodles often and I really enjoy them as stir fry or ramen, but ordering them through Amazon adds up. I may go to my local Asian market and get some, I had forgotten them!😊
Love your channels and videos. Always look forward to new uploads 🤙🏽
After Mike casually tore through a couple bento boxes, this turned into a more unique episode than usual! Loved the look of all these konjac treats! A trip to Japan sounds great right about now...
蒟蒻パークですね!!東京に住んでるので一度も行ったことがなく、行ってみたい所だったので、こんなに素晴らしい紹介動画を見てより行きたくなりました!ありがとうございます😊💕
Mike, I am a super fan. I've been following you for a long time. you were living in Queens, but I think you were living in the Elmhurst area (I grew up in Woodhaven) I worked as an EMT over at the Elmhurst hospital. If you travel worldwide with your partner you should get her to help you. It will boost your viewership with the wives. I am jealous because I was in Japan back in 1984-5 when I worked for a computer company Digital (DEC) I was there for just over 3 weeks at Canon. I was an engineer doing a technical repair manual on one of their inkjet printers for my company. The engineers always want to go out drinking after work, but I did not drink. Anyway, always love all your videos.
Your videos are always amazing… love this 🥰🥰 Greetings from Japan 🇯🇵
Love KonJack noodles. I discovered them on one of your previous videos and saw them in the Asian section of a local market and bought them. It took the guilt out of eating regular/ or whole wheat pasta. Great video. I didn't know it was so versatile! Great content Mike as always.😊
Really hoping to visit Japan from Canada sometime soon! Looks like such a wonderful place with amazing people.
Me too I want to take my kids. I'd love to get one of the abandoned houses one day 🥰
I think if I did a shot every time Mike said Konjac I'd be dead now.
That looks superb, I wish I could get that many konjac options over here.
Same. I've only had a handful of dishes before with konjac... nothing nearly as awesome as this. Jealous!
THIS is probably my most FAVORITE episode of Strictly Dumpling ever, just like a FUN documentary- with eating!!!
Love your videos Mike!
It's crazy that it all comes from Konjac!!
It seems so futuristic in its own way!
This was quite interesting, thx for sharing!
Thanks for showing us how the better half lives... hope the next life , or the afterlife is more like this.
More Japan video, much appreciated~ :D
Yum food looks good I just love Japan ❤❤
Never heard of konjac before. Definitely going to look into buying it locally. I appreciate you sharing. Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
mike you need to make a video out of all of your videos of your Favorite food item and runner up food item from every country you have visited. It would be a deff watch!!! wouldnt cost you anything but your editing time and the payout is worth it!!!
By sheer coincidence, for sale next month is Mikes hot oil with Konjac pieces inside.
I noticed that Mike seems to like travelling to Japan, Korea and Singapore especially. Apart from the food, travelling in these countries are most convenient and safe.
His favorite place to go to is South Korea. He feels at home
Taiwan too
I can't blame him, as well as Thailand (for it's value, people, delicious foot and quality of holiday) I would say Japan, Korea and Singapore are my favourite countries to visit!
My mother always would say that it is good for you. It helps clean the blood. She was right. Of course we did not care about the health benefits just that we loved eating it.
I've heard it's a very healthy food - didn't know the specifics until now though! 🙏
Omg I was there in October. I really enjoyed the place. Bought so much stuff and my suitcase were so heavy with konnyaku. Free buffet was awesome. I can’t believe Mike went to Takasaki. My sister lives there. There’s mentaiko park close from there too. Great video thank you.
Love your stuff Mikey! In the hospital and your video just came in time. God bless!
I hope you get better soon!
Get well soon!
Awesome job Mikey
Everything looks tasty! 👍👍👍
Not a fan of konjac because of the texture but I would love to tour the factory where these items are made/processed. That would be a great experience.
This is a great video !!
KONJAC HEAVEN!!!!!
they look awesome, and having eaten konjac before, I know that snappy texture
now I want to eat one, konjac with fruit salad also sounds good
Love konjac, so amazing for weight loss and health ❤️❤️❤️
I know it as konnyaku, glad to see you enjoy it.
Hi Mike, I think that's regular mustard just not "American mustard" its normally closer to Wasabi outside of the US.
The jelly looks like the nutritional bars from Snowpiercer
I find it wild they give this away, it’s SO expensive to buy konjac noodles here in England, like £5/$7 for a 100g pouch!
Thank you
I'm looking forward to the "Followup from the Throne Room".
I wish that buffet was around when I lived in Gunma prefecture many years ago because I love konnyaku. I'll have to remember to check it out next time I'm able to visit Japan.
First love your videos!!❤️❤️
Now I've gotta try
Looks like some futuristic food.
Enjoy
AWESOME VID MAN KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ❤❤❤
It's "kon-yaku".
Awesome 👍👍👍🇨🇦❤️thanks
Anybody know the amount of times konjac is said in the video
About the same amount of times as the word Snappy
@@Kelly-vc3qn Which is???
i've wanted to go here ever since they featured it in an episode of terrace house - it looks so interesting!
Awesome
Look so great Japane Food
Love love love ramen with konjac noodles.
The buffet reminds of what you see when Science fiction films are trying to portray alien food! I’d love 💕 to try it!
All about konjac! What an entertaining video!
👍🐱 8:42
You always make me hungrrrrrry
The kiwi tree was cool! Never seen one either.
All I could think about when I saw this was billet train… love you Mike.
It's amazing to see your channel(s) grow so much and you make a career out of food. Well done.
"Zero calories." 😆 Do you still believe in Santa?
Hey Mike.. Enjoy.. ❤️🐞
Free buffet, win!
Ok THAT was an adventure. When that machine in the factor just blorted out a bunch of konjac I cracked up. What fun.
Ugh I want that salmon bento box! Mama and baby in one lol
One would think that konjac would not be that filling, but apparently it is?? Never had it, so I can't comment. Sounds fun to try, nonetheless!
This is one of my favourite things......
I've just came back from Japan after 2 weeks & honestly I want to go back 😱
Such an amazing place!
You were there in January? Was it cold, and did it snowed ?
@3L3L lala it was Compareable to the UK & Poland.. if you know you know really
HE went to Willy Wonka Konyaku factory lol. Which is much healthier than candy version.
Everything is better than you ever had !!!!
Free/Japanese/Food Yes please ❤😍💪
Take a shot every time he says "snappy' to describe the food.
I’m eating right when this uploaded! And still hungry watching your video lol 😂
Great as usual! Love our Mikey. Could you please show us something about China and its cuisine?
You know you could just use the search bar and look up the videos Mikey has made over the years about Chinese cuisine. Here I'll help you out just type in Mikey Chen or Strictly Dumpling and Chinese food in the search bar and boom there you go.
Nice vid
yay
In the USA. the noodles are, marketed as shiritaki.
It's shirataki.
I want to go and eat too!!! 😍🤤🤤🤤
i WISH we had all these Konjac products where I live. Damn right I'd be eating there every day.
Who else wants to live 5 minutes from a free buffet? Lol... 🥰🤤 The menu changes every day. 😋
I need to head back to Japan and get some of this asap!
Never been before (besides a layover), but wow is it getting really high on my bucket list 😅
how is it for tourists? i've seen youtube videos saying the police there are corrupt and can hold you for days for no reason lol
@@Adrian-zu6tm the police are corrupt in any country. I never came across one single officer in Japan. Don't fk around and you won't find out essentially, same as anywhere.
@@Adrian-zu6tm Maybe you're thinking about N. Korea? LOL. Japan wouldn't be such a popular destination for tourists if it has corrupt police force. I've visited twice. Loved it.
@@3l3llala13 nope, watch the videos from paolo from tokyo and takashii from japan about the police in japan regarding foreigners
Mike where did you get the bento boxes from??
Love the videos
very hygienic jelly buffet lol!
Wow this looked amazing an well never had this before because I live born an raised in hawaii kauai
Healthy soluble fiber too. Bet you were cleaned out pretty well the next day LOL.
I don't understand how is it free?
7:00 Had Mike not said anything I could've went on with my life thinking that was a mushroom or piece of meat . Blown away knowing that was also konyaku
Isn’t konjac a natural laxative? 😂
