Her singing technique is so dangerous, she is literally on a vocal high wire with no safety net, and that's what makes her ridiculously exciting to listen to. Also, the authenticity is staggering; so raw and visceral. She's not beating the listener into submission with her technique (like some really famous divas do, naming no names!), saying "Listen to me, aren't I great" Isn't my voice epic!". There is nothing smug about this performance. And even though the song, the delivery and the subject matter are all really challenging, it's that authenticity which makes you come back time and time again, and never get tired of her. Truly amazing.
Sometimes I get bored when performers use too many riffs and runs. However, Yebba didn't use them gratuitously. Each one felt purposeful. She made heartbreaking sobs into hauntingly beautiful music. I've seen this so many times and I just can't get over it. Love your reaction. I hit subscribe as soon as you exorcized the demons. 😅
I agree with you. She is amazing with them tho, she uses them in the emotion of the voice like they should be sang. She captures the emotion of her voice and amplifies it, which I find miraculous.
April Davis The Tangled Cat yessss. I agree. I often can’t stand when singers do that it always seems forced and takes away from the performance. However this was the literally perfect amount. Perfect timing. Perfect variation. Just wow.
Her technique is unbelievable (she's obviously an INCREDIBLY well-trained vocalist), but the emotional connection is so powerful. She clearly almost cried during that song and it's quite obvious she's singing from experience. This is one of the most moving musical experiences I've ever watched.
It's 6 minutes of feeling the deepest darkest pain of someone else's betrayal as if it was ours, that's what she sounds like. It's one of the most beautiful things to listen to. ❤️
A little more background since you asked a question that doesn't seem to have been answered yet: Yes, she wrote the song, this was actually her first time performing an original live. She had previously just done open-mic style covers and some jazz singing. Five days after this recording, her mother committed suicide, which is when she chose YEBBA (her name Abbey backwards) as her stage name, because her mother used to call her that. Following that, she wrote "Evergreen" about her mother. Her most recent video, The Beats 1 Performance, is recorded in the church she used to attend with her mother before she passed (that she subsequently stopped attending, until choosing to record the performance there). Knowing that makes the amazing performance even better, if you watch it.
Yebba, aka Abbey, is actually from my very small hometown here in Arkansas. She's a well know pastor's daughter. She's an amazing person and has such an emotional story.
As you can hear Yebba is much like Jessie J in that meaning they grew up with black folk churches. She enlist the clark sisters as one of her inspirations hence she sort of preaches when she sis (can i get a witness something she will normally say she is in her feelings). Majority of black folks are the reason why the music industry sounds the way it does now particular those folks from church backgrounds. Gospel music has played a major role in rnb and soul music and in this case Yebba
Right you are Tadiwa! The black influence on music goes SOOOO far back. Elvi's whole performance was influenced by black music. I wish the black community, or any minority community, would get more recognition for their contribution to current culture.
Yeah, if you go on her Instagram (and you follow the big gospel artists) you’ll see their comments pop up on her videos..she can hang comfortably with the best.
The undertone screams jasmine Sullivan. But her emotions and connection to life, love, kindness, melancholy, name it.... Is so spectacular and unique. We hope to see more of you so you can heal the world with your love song voice
I love that you put the "vocal coach" in the back seat for this performance. The emotional impact of this song is so incredibly powerful. I'm reduced to tears every time I watch her during this performance. It obviously means so much to her and she is quite obviously on the verge of tears through the entire performance. This performance alone could be a masterclass.
This song is intoxicating. It's magic what she does with her voice. It's like I spontaneously combust and start to tear. These damn onions, where are they coming from. All i have to do is replay the whole song and boom right back to where I was before.
@@Yahwehisloved For some reason I kinda hear Adele and Ellie Goulding. I don't know who Jazmine Sullivan is so I can't speak on that one. But I just learned of Yebba, and she is amazing.
She and Clark Beckham cover John Mayer's Gravity and it is astonishing! She also just had a video come out for her other original song, Evergreen which is also beautiful
She’s so amazing I have been watching her for so long now and I just love that she’s finally getting the recognition cause she is one of the best vocalist I’ve ever heard
I always come back to this song, and so many times, it still catches me in my feels when I'm not looking. Watching you trying to hold it together while being simultaneously amazed and overwhelmed sometimes gets me out of my feels enough to hold it together myself.
I like that she appreciates the guitarist also because his part sets the tone and brings you in like "check this out i have something you need to see" and then yebba just keeps you mesmerized by her soul and took you places people are afraid to explore.... thanks for this reaction Rebecca you are awesome!!
I love this it's like it came from the pits of sorrow...you can only find that I that note in the bottom of a gutteral heartbroken cry.....yasssss those years ! I felt every one of them. Adelle is awesome this chic is some else.
Her voice is incredible. Her tone is so real but angelic at some points. Strong yet airy. Very nice. I enjoyed this video. I love the reviewers expressions and comments. Many blessings to all watching
i have seen many reaction of this and voice teacher, vocal coach´s and other speaking of technik´s and her tone´s, but no one seems to notice it, of course she has wailing tones, the story and the emotions she puts into it (heartache and anger) say it, what does a lovesick person do, cry, she has the sobs, the sighs, the whimpering, the bitter gasp and the pressed exhalation, transformed into tones of their singing. In other words "she cries the song in sorrow and rage" and the emotions she puts into it makes it so effective, remember and watch the performance again, you'll realize how impressive the song and her singing really is
Okay I have no idea how I found my way to this channel, nor have I ever listen to that kind of music. I listen to rock metal and stuff like that. But lemme tell ya. I’ve never felt chills like I have just now. My entire body. It’s like my soul started a nuclear reaction. Wow. That woman’s voice just sent me to a place I didn’t know existed. I’m tripping right now lol
Yebba is so generously candid about the emotional origin of every single note I feel like a voyeur in her personal world. She makes some of the most exclusively skilled techniques seem as spontaneous and natural as crying. The vocal agility of Oleta Adams, the range of Prince, the command of George Michael, the passion of Etta James, the rawness of Janis Joplin and the timbral versatility of I-don’t-know-who. The acclaim here is deserved.
Your reaction was so pure I loved it! I love this song so much and the first time I watched it I was so captivated tears were falling without even noticing! Love it
her voice and the emotion can sink a battle ship... gets me every time, absolutely one of the most stunning performances I'll EVER see in my life... guaranteed
The crazy thing about this performance is how her high notes sound painful, hopeful, desperate, and howling and crying while her low notes sound like she's defeated and helpless. It's a rollercoaster ride for the ears but most definitely more on emotions. I cried like a baby 😭😭😭
I enjoyed your reaction and was impressed that you could mimic/reproduce her sounds and runs. You kept saying you could go on all day, but then you didn’t. Too bad because I wanted to hear your thoughts, which is why I watched this video. So I wish you would have expounded on her technique and your other thoughts.
I loved your reaction!! I always click on a YEBBA reaction video when I see that it's someone's first time hearing her sing. I'm a new subscriber. Please react to Yebba's new song called Evergreen
Yay!!! I loooooved seeing your reaction ❤️❤️❤️I had the same one the first 20 times I listened to this 😂 now to your back log you must add Yebba Evergreen Beats 1 official video, Clark Beckham/Yebba Gravity, and Clark Beckham Tennessee Whiskey 😁
Her voice gives me the "closed story eyes" where when you close your eyes her voice paints such an incredible picture of emotion . Absolutely jaw dropping talent Yebba has.

Man was i surprised watching this reaction and saw the same reaction in you that i felt first time i heard/saw this. You too lost for words :)...
Please react to her first official video (Beats 1) of her song "Evergreen" (she has great earrings in that one too, plus the song is half as long as this one). Yes she wrote "My Mind" and "Evergreen". There are a couple of other YT videos out there too, but no album yet (here's hoping). Love your reviews!
There's room for all the ladies (great female singers) to sit at the table together except me I can't sing wish I could though love Rachel love yebba spent some time looking for ms yebba for that video I remembered Rachel reacted to it ❤️ thank you
I think my favourite thing about this video is that, in previous videos of yours that I've watched, there's a lot of pausing to comment, but in this one it seemed like at the beginning you forgot you were filming a reaction video and just got totally lost. THIS. WHAT U SAID.
Wow.🤌🏾
What do you really mean by dangerous? Did you think dangerous for your vocal cords or?
I've probably watched this performance 300 times and it gives me the same amount of chills every single time.
♥
Kenzie Tysl I cry every single time I hear it no matter what kind of mood I’m in
Kenzie Tysl Same!!
Kenzie Tysl same
My God, me too. Can't get enough of this.
I cannot wait for Yebba to give us a full album. That VOICE.
Jesus Baez she’s taking way too long 😭😭
YEEEES and this needs to be on it!
Exactly! I love it that she is taking her time. Reminds me of the feeling i get when 25 came out
That's what I'm talking play that shit in Memphis I'm waiting ya dig
Seriously, why doesn’t she have a freaking album yet??!!!?!!?!!?

Yes agreed with regards to the runs/riffs.
Thanks so much peaches. Welcome on board ♥
Exactly! Riffs & runs should season the song, not drag it around.
I agree with you. She is amazing with them tho, she uses them in the emotion of the voice like they should be sang. She captures the emotion of her voice and amplifies it, which I find miraculous.

Couldn't agree more. Apparently it's about her mother who committed suicide. 🙁
my sister had the same vocal coach as her + they went to belmont together, and she believes she was even better than their coach
It's 6 minutes of feeling the deepest darkest pain of someone else's betrayal as if it was ours, that's what she sounds like. It's one of the most beautiful things to listen to. ❤️
Her voice is more versatile than Adele’s 🤷🏾♀️. I said what I said now fight me 😤
nineties Baby all👏🏾the👏🏾way👏🏾
Aint no arguing with that it's just the truth 🙌
Adele couldn’t be Yebba’s background singer.
Facts are facts...the agility wow
I was literally just saying that

Hey. Thanks so much for the comment. Wow. How incredibly and sad. 🙁 poor lady. Respect to her.
Will check it out
JLog1c Utterly sad; I had no idea ☔
JLog1c what a sad story.
Lord.
Her dad is the preacher at the church she never stopped she comes BK to Arkansas and sings for us in church
Yebba, aka Abbey, is actually from my very small hometown here in Arkansas. She's a well know pastor's daughter. She's an amazing person and has such an emotional story.
Mali Arnett cool
Where can I watch video of her story or read about it?
Another amazing musician from Arkansas just like Amy Lee
i knew she had to have a churchy up bringing when she said “anyone know what im talking about” lmao
I hear a wailing broken heart as she sings this song, and her feelings bleed over into our emotions stirring up empathetic sensibilities.
1Ephraimite best comment!
As you can hear Yebba is much like Jessie J in that meaning they grew up with black folk churches. Tadiwa N say that!
I could hear the gospel a mile away. For a minute I was like "This is exactly how Tamela would sing this verse".
Say thatt!!👍💯💯👏👏👏👏i knew before you even said it she is influenced by black folks. That soul runs deep baby❤She SANG TF out this🔥
Her song literally leaves you on the edge, should I cry? Should I be angry? Should I be depressed? I’ve never felt a singers story this much, ever!!
Gospel Music doesn’t get enough credit for the influence it has had on the world. New subscriber cause your personality is dope!

It takes every ounce of energy not to cry when I hear this song.

Yep you right

Yes!!
She reminded me of jasmine e Sullivan a lot when she said” how could you do this to me” with the raspiness and the run she did.
@@xtravagentk1275 lol not Ellie Goulding definitely jazmine
Wow, what a powerful raw emotional performance! I got chills!
when she started swearing and sweating... girl same lol
She and Clark Beckham cover John Mayer's Gravity and it is astonishing! She also just had a video come out for her other original song, Evergreen which is also beautiful
I actually did a bass cover of that song, check it out if you'd like! I'd appreciate it!! ua-cam.com/video/ti1ImRdMGm0/v-deo.html
Just saw this. Great job!
Her smokey tone is sooooo heavenly
I can't even listen to her sing this song makes me cry every time 😭 so beautiful of a voice and person 💪

“The richness- the richness of her voice. Amen.”
I am 100% with you on that.
I absolutely love how unpretentious you are when watching vocalists. You are very relatable. Thank you for making these videos.

She definitely listens to blues and gospel. You can hear the inspiration
Preacher's kid from West Memphis, Arkansas. Yep, she cited the Clark Sisters as inspiration.
Also Clark Beckham with Yebba-Gravity by John Mayer.
The goddesses of soul music have invested the soul of this girl and her vocal cords ...... she is a magician ..... I love 😍
This is my fav reaction
Oh Mann, I’ve watched other reactions and you are incredible!!! Me clicking subscribe, lol. You are engaging.
