U2 in the 80's and 90's were just on another level. Amazing music and tours. Mixed emotions about this years Joshua Tree Concerts. Bono's voice is just not on this level anymore.
Yes, you can tell by the live performances who's a truly musician, who doesn't need a studio surrounding and gear to sound great - and U2 are definitely one of those musicians!
This is U2 at their very best: "Spanish Eyes" should have been on "The Joshua Tree" Album along with "Heartland" (later featured on "Rattle & Hum" Album). I just love the pure raw sound that U2 always encapsulates regardless of which concert tour you go to see them on. I should say, however, I was exceptionally privileged to see them five times across Australia on their "Love Town Tour" during 1989 which to me is still the penultimate moment of their unique "40" year career!
it basically was. i purchased the cassette of their b-sides when the joshua tree came out. the band released a few b-side songs on singles cassettes. these came from the joshua tree recordings.
I was 5 yrs old in 1987when I became a fan of U2. I didn't understand much about music at that moment of my life, but the sound that they had just sounded unique like no other which made me an 80s music fan grew up to listen to all types music. Then I heard of a Chilean Spanish Rock band called La Ley became a fan of them to because they had a similar sound like U2 which the guitar player died in 1994 listen to a Song called Prisioneros de la Piel by La ley and you'll know what I'm talking about.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that this performance just shows Bono’s brilliance. Yeah he forgot his lines, you can see and here that later especially when it seems like he’s angrily yelling more lines in the middle and than brings a dramatic new dynamic when he brings the girl up. If they had better prepared for this song, considering they just didn’t practice enough, than this song would’ve been an even more magical moment for the crowd.
Just FYI….that girl was me,. It was not staged. It was however, divine intervention. As I was leaving my apt at the last minute decided to take my tambourine, stopped at a store to get ribbons. I just wanted to give it to him during my fav song, “Spanish Eyes.” I had NO idea I was going to live the thrill of a lifetime ~
