I was only 19, but I camped outside for two days in front of McNichols Arena to buy tickets for these two shows. Looking back, we didn't have cell phones to keep us occupied, we carried cash to buy tickets, life was crazy, but simple. I miss those days.
Concerts before cell phones were the best.... you really could get totally sweeped up in the music, the collective experience..... the second you take your cell phone out at a show - you have broke the connection between audience and band..... group music events are the closest many of us get to ritual.....
Colorado fans loved U2 back in the 80's and U2 loved playing in Denver as much. Their love affair began way back on that rainy, June night in Red Rocks. I know this because my Sister and I were there and again in Boulder the next night for a free-Thank You concert. I've seen them 2-more times in Colorado On St. Patrick's Day in 85' and headlining the Amnesty International, 'Conspiracy Of Hope' Tour in 86'. They were the most inspiring band I'd ever seen live. Not the best band ever in concert but certainly the most inspiring.
It’s a great moment… but actually not a slide. I can’t remember the name but it’s a device to sustain the notes and held in the right hand the picks/strums rather than the left hand on the fretboard.
Lisa Knell GIRL!!! I'm so JEALOUS!!!😉 I've been a fan since 1983 and only seen them live this year for the very first time. This is one of my favourite songs an just found out that I COULD have seen them performing The Unforgettable Fire and Bad already in 1984!!! That's my "Bad"...😣😉
Lafayette19P I saw them 3 times on the original JT Tour and was even lucky enough to get to meet them after a gig in Houston, TX. Dream come true. I bought my tix for night one from scalpers ... I think 115.00 for floor seats fairly close up. Wanted to go this year but I'm a poor single Mom now lol and couldn't validate spending that much cash on tickets! 😢
Lisa Knell Wow, you acually MET them!!! 😃😄 Did you know anything you wanted to ask them? Or were you just flabbergasted/overwhelmed? My DD and I discussed this a lot (like if meeting them would ever happen😞🙃😂) but we couldn'nt come up with any question anyway. Yeah... we'd like to sit around a campfire and listen to their lifestories🤣🤣!!! LOL...So that's a dream which will never come true. Because I had to learn English just grom watching American TV with subtitles I needed to google what "scalpers" meant.😉 But 115 must have been a lot of money in 1987!!! Although I don't know how to compare currency and exchange rate because we also changed from "gulden" to euro. But the tickets for JT-tour 2017 were a gift for my 50th birthday and mothersday. So maybe as a "poor single mom" your kids might surrprise you too in the future!!! Remarkably my daughter knows songs by heart that she could have only heard as a toddler. Because later on there wasn't money to buy albums or keep track of what U2 was doing. But I can tell you: for the two hours you are present at this 30th anniversary of the Joshua Tree Tour you feel and sing and dance like you're 20 again. Unfortunately they didn't play THiS song too but they DID play Newyearsday and Sunday Bloody Sunday from earlier albums. And some great newer songs from over the last decades. Still "jealous" I did't also see them in the early days but sincerely sorry for you that you have to miss out on this experience. Or maybe it's still worth to get milked out by a "scalper" and eat peanut and jelly sandwiches for a while. If they didn't already did their concert in your town or area... don't know. As a single mom you always put your kids first but now mine has grown into an adult lady I know she wouldn't have minded it if I had done such a thing. I mean: it's U2!!!! Not like if you go and spend money on nonsense. Or go to any band. Sorry...😅 now I'm turning UA-cam into Facebook and I almost never go there and claim to hate it😆😉😉 I'll zipp up 🤐 and start listening my daily dosis of U2 or watch the concert I attended. So lucky: al lot of people worked together and made a really wonderful multicamvideo where I can actually SEE them which we could'nt at the concert itself. There a lot of concerts to watch online but because this was actually of the night we were there I am so grateful for it!!!🙄🙄☺☺ hope there's a possibility for you to go anyway/anyhow or start saving up for an upcoming tour. I know I will (try to) !!! ☺😊🤗
Mick Funny Yes he might be.. like you also calculated Lisa Knell must be 50 years of age now.. Makes me wonder what you were doing in 1987??? Propably not experiencing the wonderful memories these people are remenissing about???
U2 is hands-down my all-time favorite band, but it's trippy, been enjoying their tunes ever since i was 19 and New Year's Day came roaring out of the speakers on my crappy little burnt orange sorta rusty Honda civic wagonnnn, lol. The Unforgettable Fire got past me somehow, i dunno, not much FM air play? Thank the Great Music Gods for SiriusXM, it's like this awesome new tune that's almost 40 years old. In some recorded video interview, i seem to recall Adam speaking about what the band was envisioning during the Unforgettable Fire tour, they were setting new intentions , very cool. Lately, listening to U2 channel on Sirius is like a dream come true, to hear Bono's fan letters to other artists, but especially the other u2 fans stories of their experiences and their Top5 favorite tunes from u2, and how the music has weaved it's way through their lives. My youngest son is 25, he has the Music in him and has written a few tunes, I've tried to encourage him to just keep on writing and that it's perfectly okay to write a lot of crap along the way. He knows his dad's fave band ever is u2, and fave song ever is Streets. But I gotta be honest, I'm seriously considering bumping Streets to 2nd place, and making Unforgettable Fire the Top! And let's see, for me, I'd say Red Hill Town is 3rd. Not coincidentally The Fly is 4th, lol, self-explanatory. And 5th in my top5 goes to Beautiful Day, particularly the line Your on the Road but You've Got No Destination. To me it's a perfect metaphor for a nice day trip or weekend trip or even a vacation with no plan, no schedule, no nothing, just head out into the randomness and see what Love and Mystical Things and People come our way. Thank you Larry, Adam, Edge, Bono, and all your producers and support teams. You've all enriched my life beyond any words can describe.
Bono is clearly struggling, but this is one of The Edge's definitive songs. He makes it look so effortless, squeezing so much ethereal sound out of his guitar while jumping back and forth between that and piano.
Not just guitar...ebow on the guitar and guitar. It’s like he is playing 3 instruments on this song and baking vocals. It’s insane what the edge pulls off on this one song.
Excellent job on this footage!! Too bad this song wasn't included on the Rattle and Hum album/cd. This version was so good. Excellent job posting this!! A+++
Like the other black and white sequences in "Rattle and Hum", this was beautifully photographed, but can see why they didn't use it (Bono really struggled to make a few high notes). Love Edge's guitar work and it never ceases to amaze me how he can go back and forth from piano to guitar and vice versa and make it look effortless.
You're right James Coburn, it was Amazing times, but, they've been, and still keep a level above everyone else. Thanks The Last Of The Rockstars for your Video.

U2 in 1987! The year I graduate from high school. In 2024 i'am still listening to, U2.

Rattle And Hum needs an anniversary edition with 4 DVD. The two nights in black and white in Denver...the two nights in colour in Tempe.
Completely agree with this one
Your beat is CORRECT.

Most under-rated U2 song ever in my mind....
When I was young I used to like the fire pit in my backyard and sang this song and danced around like a mad man. Such a memory. So liberating.

Ice
Your only rivers run cold
These city lights
They shine as silver and gold
Dug from the night
Your eyes as black as coal
Walk on by
Walk on through
Walk 'til you run
And don't look back
For here I am
Carnival
The wheels fly and the colors spin
Through alcohol
Red wine that punctures the skin
Face to face
In a dry and water less place
Walk on by
Walk on through
So sad to besiege your love so head on
Stay this time
Stay tonight in a lie
I'm only asking but I
I think you know
Come on take me away
Come on take me away
Come on take me home
Home again
And if the mountain should crumble
Or disappear into the sea
Not a tear, no not I
Stay in this time
Stay tonight in
Ever after, this love in time
And if you save your love
Save it all
Don't push me too far
Don't push me too far
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Had this on in the background... great sound! And performance!
