When my sis was 15, she had an older boyfriend (25 yrs), and he would sing this song to her when a bunch of us were over, hanging out. Teenage girls and older guys... Some were our age. 😊
Dear Lord - I grew up listening to these 3 young men (then) and 3 other young men (Rush) in my teen years. I thank you for putting these amazing humans on the planet to help me grow up. Rest in peace Dusty. Your impact on countless lives is something people dream of being able to do. You made our lives better.
This is the baddest ass ZZ Top album of all time. This is right in between the 70's really bluesy Texas stuff and the over produced pop of later days. This album brings back great memories of 1980.
ZZ didn't have to do it like my brothers did, but they did, but they did and I THANK YOU. I haven't been a big fan of ZZ, but I approve of this message. It's not about who does it better. It's about supporting a theme and offering a different version. I know my brothers appreciated this from ZZ. Keep on rocking ZZ with more than six thousand likes.
I remember being in a small town in eastern Washington state. I believe around 1980-81.Being a young teen , in my room listening to the only FM radio station I could pick up. They would play new rock and roll at night. I heard this song and my jaw dropped. "WHAT THE HOLLY &^%* IS THIS STUFF!!!!!!?????" " this aint abba or hank jr" . So fkn heavy..sooo groovy...so not what I had ever heard. I was amazed it was legal for the station to play this. Yes I was hooked from the first 30 seconds. Got me into "hard rock and blues" for , well around 40 years now.
oh and...to those of us old enough. Now a days a bad storm and radio station fizzles out in the boonies. I remember to old FM dial and I could sometimes "pull in" a far away station. sigh...can't do that any more.
This song reminds me of my girlfriend when I was in my early twenties. Man was she gorgeous. Every man wanted her and she was all mine. She passed away a couple years back , in her late forties, still an angel. I miss her dearly. Still and always loved you Andie. I thank you.
I'm 65 years young. I saw them back in 73. Always a fan, one of my favorite bands. Love all of there songs, but that groove they hit for the last minute or so is so frickin tight and sexy(that's the only way to describe it) I wish it lasted for an Xtra 20-30 minutes. God Bless them always!
Written by David Porter and Isaac Hayes originally recorded by Sam & Dave, released in early 1968. The single was Sam & Dave's final release on Stax Records, reaching #9 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and #4 on the R&B chart. ZZ Top covered the song on their 1979 album Degüello. The band released the song as a single the next year. Like the original, it too charted, reaching #34 on the singles chart, becoming the band's second Top 40 hit (after "Tush", four years earlier).
The Sam & Dave original is great!! I recorded a concert that was played on "The King Biscuit Flour Hour" on WPLJ here in New York back in 1980. It was ZZ in concert supporting the Deguello album and they opened with this. I was 13 and had a cheap stereo, but I could tell how loud they were. It sounded like their amps were gonna explode man!! I still kick myself in the ass for never catching them live. I have seen more shows than I can ever count, it is easily near 150-200. The 80`s alone was a concert nearly every week!
In memory of Dusty Hill who passed away today 7/28/2021. The best song to give tribute to the one who loves you especially if you were down in the dumps before that.
I think I first heard this song back in the 90s. I liked it then, and I first started listening to Tres Hombres in 1974, when I was just 14. Anyhow, I've been lucky enough to find a great-looking woman who actually cares about me. This song has been running through my mind every since I met her. I think these boys just about said it all when it comes to the way a man feels when his woman gets heated up enough to let her sexual energy out. Thank you, ZZ Top, for writing a great love song.
Louie Caliendo had it right below. I just finished listening to the Sam and Dave version, which isn't, in my opinion, even half as cool as the ZZ Top rework. Thank you, ZZ top, for recording a great love song.
It just happens all by itself too. One minute you're driving along minding your own business and all a sudden it's loud as hell and you're rockin' and rollin' like it's 1955 and Muddy Waters himself has taken possession of your mortal soul.
I absolutely love this song. It reflects exactly how I feel about my Bebita Colombiana Wife Maria Heit. Every morning I thank God he sent her to me 4 months after I woke up from a Coma on Christmas Eve day. The second time I woke up from a Coma on Christmas. The first one on Christmas day. The second one 40 years later. We were married a year and a half later on the 4th of July. 18 years now and our love is still going strong. PS, she has saved my life 3 times since we met.
I've loved these guys music my whole rock and roll life. My parents Debbie and Darrell were in the R&B scene in Dallas back in the days 70's and 80's when I was a kid. They tell me stories about knowing Dusty and Steve Miller and Stevie Ray and Buggs Henderson and jamming with them. The musicians kids would keep each other company while the adults "played" separate at these backyard events and whatnot. My step father taught me music. I couldn't help be inspired watching how good a bass player my father was. Their music would always get the crowd going and that feeling being onstage and doing your job good.....man there is no other feeling like that.
I had to go thru 2 different older versions of this song (that i didnt know existed), b4 i found the right one, by ZZ Top (great in concert), i forgot they sang it..😊
Popping bass strings, I've always loved this tune. Thank you Brothers. Finding happy hunting grounds, Mr. Hill? They'll love & honor you in Heaven, no doubt. Sorry, sincerely. Prayer in smoke...smudged already. Safe landing Padre'!
I love how ZZ Top made the lyrics more perverted than the Sam and Dave original, however subtlety it may be. ZZ has to be the most perverted Classic Rock band ever!! Pearl Necklace, Tush, Tube Snake Boogie etc
Thank you Dusty Hill 1949-2021, RIP
Had tickets to see them Sunday night ;(
I grew up with ZZ. Much love, Dusty.

That riff grabbed me from day 1. The chord change right after "but you did...". Killer
I was 15, and my older boyfriend would play this for me as we cruised around in his El Camino. Ahh, the memories..

ZZ Top one of the greatest American R&R bands has been so underrated .
Where they underrated at?? They've sold like a hundred million albums world wide and everyone loves them. Never heard anyone say they weren't great
