I really like The Glenlivet 12 myself and it is a very good one for most people who are not really into Scotch Whisky
It's the best when Erin is totally honest, Josh tries to shift her back and sell the pour, but just let her be blunt and truthful. She obviously is disappointed and not enjoying the pour that much. It's ok for your opinions to be totally at odds because it's a taste thing. Our pallette changes day to day. The Glenlivet is just ok at best, just boring and a little medicinal and bitter finish. So many better Scotches to spend money on.
For a lot of people, Glenlivet 12 = Scotch, and it's okay for a mild Speyside IMO. But last bottle I had was on sale for $28 and with normal pricing I grab Monkey Shoulder for $30ish. OTOH, I absolutely love the higher proof Glenlivets like Nadurra and Enigma, so the distillery gets a big thumb's up from me overall.
Glenlivet 12 is my daily ration and I really like it. A little bit pricy but its really good.
When you say fruit I think sprouted barley. When you say oak I think of Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt, which is very fruity and oaky, thus highly delicious. That was, in fact, my first single malt whisky. 🥃
Glenlivet 12 is one of the few Scottish whiskies I've had a chance to try, and I like it. It's not bourbon, and I still do prefer bourbon, but I like it. In fact I think I'd choose Glenlivet over Maker's Mark just like Josh. 🙂
Erin’s repeated attempts to taste fruit made me think about Compass Box Orchard House. It’s a blended malt scotch whisky, kind of expensive (about $70 in my area) but totally worth it. It’s in a completely different league compared to Glenlivet. It’s 46%abv, non-chill filtered, natural color and a lot of fruit flavors. Simply delicious. If you ever get a chance to try it, I highly recommend it!
This was one of the most honest tasting reviews I’ve ever watched. Well done 👍🏼
It’s what we do. Blinds don’t lie, olus they’re a ton of fun. Glad you enjoyed and we appreciate you tuning in. Cheers!
$32 near me and about what I’d pay. This was my gateway scotch and I still think of it fondly. It’s well crafted, even more so when you learn how much is produced because we all know that high volume production hurts quality.
What I CAN say with enthusiasm is that the base distillate is well regarded because of how well it interacts with wood. If you see an I.B. of Glenlivet, take a hard look.
I'm going to pick up a 50ml to try. Sounds like I'll like it, I'm a Bunnahabhain 12 fan❤🥃
At blind tastings, Glenlivet beat Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Macallan hands down all the time. If you ever see Glenlivet Illicit Still (48% abv), non-chill filtered, don't hesitate to buy it. It is $50. I used to see it and buy it all the time, but I cannot find it in my area any longer. When you're tasting Scotch, add a few drops of distilled water. You'll be surprised how much more you will get from your dram.
Wife loves it, her favorite Scotch for Rob Roys. Buffalo Trace is her favorite bourbon. She's been drinking Glen Livet 12 for 20 years.
There's a definite ethanol whiff at the start and then it slowly fades away.
like it more than jw blue label and every other scotch or whisky ive tried besides maybeee barrel armida
I dont drink whiskey but the first thing I thought when I tried this was the overpowering smell of alcohol lol 😂 I also didnt find it was great to knock back but that the after taste was quite nice
There’s definitely an acclimation process to whisky. Try really, really small sips like you’re sipping very hot coffee. That usually helps a lot. If you take a big sip you’ll get a lot more of the alcohol punch and burn.
@@stuffandwhiskey Thank you because I was just chucking loads back and it was rough 🤣

But whatever a good bottle that you can drink like that ?
Scotch is king. Especially when you start getting into the 15+ age range. Nothing can compare.
Agree with Erin's rating of "Just OK". I would go with Monkey Shoulder. You should try the Glenlivet 12 year old Illicit Still at 48% ABV.
I've heard that Glenlivet Illicit Still and licenced dram are good but I've never seen them :(
@@kamahhl Found some at Totalwine in San Jose last year.
Erin, put your watch on your drinking hand. Then, instead of telling you to move, it will tell you to take a drink.
Hi I enjoy your show. I am new to whiskey and now have a good beginners collection of 7 bottles. However I am starting to want to sip a pour every night and if I don’t my mouth waters for it. I never drink more than 1 drink and never get drunk but I am becoming addicted to wanting a pour. Am I an alcoholic or is this normal?
Enjoying something and being dependent on it are two totally different things, and your major red flag is if you can’t stop or it’s impacting your life and relationships. Nothing wrong with a nightly pour nor is there anything wrong with taking some days off to ensure you’re good.
I remember when I first got into Scotch and tried Glenlivet 12. I wasn't impressed. It was ok but lacked luster.
Well damn now I want Tacos. thanks a lot Josh
Everyday is a good day for tacos.
I knew it before you showed it. Very unimpressive stuff. But, if you don't like sweet, you'll like this.
50 bucks ?!?! What size? I paid just south of 80 for 750 ml. And the place I bought it at is known for being very affordable
750ml. Sounds like it’s sub-$40 for a lot of folks based on the comments. Just goes to show you that every market differs on price.
@@stuffandwhiskey made a mistake … it was actually a liter. I forgot to correct that, my bad
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Dang it. Now I want tacos and cheeseburgers! 😂
Erin, Josh may be talkin’ all this stuff about you. Why don't he just let you live? (🎶Tell me why🎵). You don't need permission, make your own decisions. That's your prerogative; to do want you want to do. It's your prerogative.
So many better scotch out there :-)
The 15 yo is the most awesome..What happen to Ms. Scotch?
Too many good bourbons and not enough time to try them all to waste time with Scotch. 😊
😂😂 that’s a hot take! We’re not mad at it (even if we do love Scotch too).
There is some FINE Scotch out there. But yeah, there's a ton of every kind of whiskey, and I can certainly understand if someone wants to concentrate on the multifarious bottles of one kind. 🙂
Never tried this before but not a fan of basic whisky as my palette has moved on.
You tell him Erin that is your right to be different if you always went with Josh no point to the show
It's good. Not great. Always on the shelf and a good value starter whisky. Good bottle to have to throw into blinds.
Very well said!
Why do people say beginner whiskey? There's no such thing as a beginner whiskey. Sounds stupid.
If a 125 barrel proof bruiser is decidedly *not* beginner-friendly whiskey, then wouldn't it stand to reason that there *is* beginner-friendly whiskey? Either way, we're here to have fun rather than argue over semantics.
Its a boring and thin scotch. I wouldnt buy it. 30 bucks here. Theres just so many things that cost less that i think are better.
Such as? At under $30 (southern California price) my scotch expectations are low, as opposed to bourbon under $30.
@@BigBadJerryRogers bothan is a lowland single malt and their sherry expression is very good. Otherwise monkey shoulder, chivas regal, hamiltons or some of the private bottling that are out there. Glen moray or glenfarclas as well. obviously pricing varies so i cant help you much on that front but they said 50 in the video and you should fairly easily beat that at least.
@@LeatherDaddy97 Yes, at 50 you can but not under 30. I'll personally disagree with Chivas and Monkey Shoulder as any better, I wouldn't have thought to compare the styles to Glenlivet since they're blends, and haven't had the Bothan or Hamilton, guess I will check those out
@@BigBadJerryRogers in the end its all what you like. I just find glenlivet way too boring
