KC12 is one of the best bourbons on the market. Period. It’s why I think people are crazy spending over $80 on any bourbon. $65 and pretty readily available (I’m in NJ ) and just brings so much flavor, quality and consistency. Look around in the market today at age stated bourbons from the big distilleries. Old Forester 1924 10 year old at $115?! Ridiculous…
This was a really fun review. I come back to the KC's from time to time and think that the jump in complexity from 9 to 12 is very noticeable. But KC 9 often is overlooked but fits into that classic, always available pour!
9:88 “I think they taste more Heaven Hilly than Jim Beam…” 12:55 “I mean, I’m a professional whiskey taster…what are we talking about.” 😂😂😂 I love this channel for real.
This is a very true statement, and if that shows through in our videos, then that's a beautiful thing. Cheers and thanks for the incredible compliment Tim!
Fun fact about Luxardo cherries: I had an open jar in my pantry for about 5 years. The jar was half empty. They were still good! So stock up at Costco and bunker those cherries. Perfect apocalypse food.
I agree with Erin that there's not enough difference in taste (for me) to spend twice as much for 12 vs 9 year. (Kudos to Josh for using "posit a theory" as a phrase).
These are both great bottles and KUDOS to JB for their pricing. In a market that continually sees younger NDP stuff going for $60+, it’s beautiful to see these bottles, age stated, readily available at a great price. Great review and cheers!
Here in Albuquerque the 9 year is $30.99, while the 12 is $66.99 (on the Total Wine site for the Uptown store). And on Wednesday I bought a store pick at Kelly Liquors (the Mountain Run store) for $56.99 because if I didn't, I'd probably never have another chance. Given the difference in price between the 9 and the 12, I'll stick with the 9 unless I get unexpected fundage. Given the difficulty y'all are having deciding which y'all prefer, I'm not sure the added three years are worth the huge rise in price. And that 9 year Knob Creek is fine bourbon.
I found my old bottle of KC15 was more oaked than the KC18. KC12 is a 'always have in stock' buy for me, such a great pour for the price. The private selects can be fantastic too. I have one of the old single barrel picks that was hand selected by Freddie Noe and is ~15yrs old and 120prf. Night and day, so much better than KC15. I wish they'd bring back the older barrel picks.
Way back in the 1990s, when I was just getting serious about booze, a friend recommended Knob Creek. At that time, there was only one version. I don't remember if it even had an age statement back then, but it was the standard version that now has a 9-year age statement. It was a very good introductory bourbon, and I still like it. I find it interesting that I still like the bourbon that got me started, while I have outgrown the Scotch (Chivas Regal 12 and Glenlivet 18) that got me started down that path and now prefer others. I have Knob Creek 9, 12, and 18, and a 9-year single barrel store pick. Out of all of these, I find the 12 to be the most balanced and harmonious, and the 9-year single barrel is very close. The 18 is more interesting in some ways, but it is a little messy. Bourbon tends to go funny after 12 years, so I wouldn't expect an 18-year bourbon to come together perfectly, but there are flavors and complexities that will only come into the spirit when it reaches an advanced age. I got lucky on the 18 - I was able to get it for a fair price and without having to wait in a tater line. It would be nice if I could add the 15 to this line-up, but it doesn't tend to be readily available. One of the local bars has the 15, so I can always order it when I go out. Knob Creek is priced well for its age statements. The 9-year is a bargain, and the 12 (and the 15 and 18 if they can be found for close to MSRP) are priced about the same as good quality Scotch of the same age. Though I think the 12 is the best tasting of the bunch, you can't go wrong with any of them. Even though the older ones are more expensive and maybe not as immediately appealing, they provide a unique experience that can't typically be found in a younger bourbon. I'll guzzle down the younger ones faster than the 18, but there are days when my mood will call for the somewhat messy, more challenging older booze.
Checked Va. ABC store in the morning, around 11:00, nothing interesting or allocated. Checked again at 4:00 in the evening (I’m retired) and there were 2 bottles of KC 12 on the shelf, limit one per customer. Nailed it!!😂
Settled for the 9 yesterday when looking for the 12. It was very good but not very great.....I eat the chocolate edge first then the disk of peanut butter
I've had KC9, KC18, and KC9 SiB Store Pick. I enjoy the latter 2, but was so disappointed with regular KC9. It's as you said, incredibly drying, but lacking the sweeter, bourbon-y flavors I was expecting. It feels like KC9 SiB Pick but watered down too much so the balance is off. (Also have a bottle of KC12 too but haven't opened it yet...)
First, Reese's are a one-bite snack. Second, Knob Creek is my personal favorite. Even the Rye is seriously good! You can't beat the value of 9 year, the 12 Year is delicious, and the single barrel just delivers.
Hold up...what's this talk about Reese's Peanut Butter Cup when you've already established the awesomeness of the Snickers and Twix? Erin - "glass two is leaving a little" followed by blank...the correct way to describe it is "..."glass two is leaving a little sumthin sumthin". To the darker glass Erin went, beware the dark side she should be. On a serious note, I have a bottle of KC 12 year, but it's allocated in my market and I haven't opened it yet ($65). I haven't tried KC 9 yet. BUT...I have KC 9 single barrel ($60), which I think is really good. So maybe the KC12v KC9 SB is up. Two thumbs up to the best WhiskeyTube channel!!!
Bless her heart, but my mind was blown when she thought the 9 year tasted older. I'm going to have to get a new bottle if that's the case. It must have changed a lot! Thanks for the videos.
Since my first bottle of KC12 maybe two years back, I have come to so love it…and am not a KC9 fan as a rule (I may need a revisit)…as an occasionally available bottle here in OKC, I always buy one when I see it. Between it and Baker’s and the KC picks, I may be shifting from my main love being MGP to Beam along with my continuing love for Heaven Hill.
Knob Creek 12 in one of my absolute favorites, especially for the price. Here in SoCal I’ve picked it up at Target of all places for the low $60’s. Knob 9 tend to go for $39.95 in most liquor stores here.
Sorry, but the mini cups in the "moose tracks" ice cream are the bomb. THAT is the heavenly decadence that I can enjoy with serious amounts of guilt.. Thanks for that.
In Houston, the KC 9 is $28.50 at TW, and KC12 is essentially nonexistent, never seen it once. Crazy how much availability and price can vary by region. But I think at $29, I need to grab a bottle or two of the 9
I revisited Knob Creek 9 recently and it was more variable day to day than any other whiskey in recent memory. Really didn't dig it at first, then it would be delicious another day and then back to meh another time. Very confusing. Also reeces is multiple bites.
I had the same result in a blind as Erin. 12 is great but 9 just hit moved me. Odd thing about my bottle of 9… after almost a year of being open and half full, I had a pour and it came across so citrusy. Thought it was just the session, but had it again the next weekend and it was the same heavy citrus. Really good but weird. Never had a 9 that had any citrus.
Here in VA the KC12 is going for $70 which is annoying because I see every other state is getting it around $55 but w.e I got a bottle just to check it out. And I’m not too mad about it. I will say that the Kc9 is Fantastic for $30. I do like the KC12 over the KC9 but for the price point I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. But, if it’s your first time trying it it’s definitely worth getting at least once. Let’s just say I’ll probably be taking my time with the 12.
I just A/B the 9 vs the 12 year old Knob Creek. 9 is a little sweeter, and the 12 has a little more flavor, including a pleasant pepper type flavor. For me, it's worth it for the higher price for the 12 year Knob Creek.
Great review! One of my favorite pours is the 18yr! The 12yr is awesome for the price! The 9yr is a great budget pour! I also have four different store picks that are all great! Cheers! Occasionally a bite then finish it, but usually a four pack is four bites!!
I'm with Erin - I'm around multi-biter for the normal one. I haven't had KC12 but I do enjoy KC9. Might have to buy it when I come to the States this summer.
I just came from a "Whiskey Wednesday" at a local eatery. Flight of KC 9 -12-18 yr for $15. I really wasn't that familiar with Knob Creek but I'm a fan now. The 9 yr was very solid value and the18yr was magic but I think I'm going to get myself a bottle of the 12 yr. For me, there was a lightly peppered chocolate covered peanut flavor at just the right level that sealed the deal.
I love all things Knob Creek. I have KC 9, KC 9 SiB, KC 9 SiB store picks, KC 12, KC 18, KC 7 Rye, KC SiB Rye, and KC Twice Barreled Rye. I enjoy them all! The 12 and 18 are probably my favorites…but don’t tell the other kids!
Love KC 12 - never gotten the peanut butter or cherry notes you mentioned (oak dominates to me) but it's good. I don't like KC 9 at all. Huge difference.
A decent 12 yr bourbon for LESS THAN $50 (in my market). That’s a win win. I love KC12. Oh, and my preference for a cocktail cherry is Woodford Reserve cherries over Luxardo.
I for one find 12 year significantly better than 9... enough I don't think I'd ever not be able to tell them apart... but I agree 9 year is an amazing deal. Probably the best
I used to very much love KC 12. But then I tried it next to KC 18. After that the 12 tasted exceptionally nutty. Every time I've gone back since, it's all nuts. It may be ruined.
Have a KC 9 Store pick that's about half full and just picked up a KC 12 for $49.99, unbeatable price, since that's essentially what I paid for the store pick.
For the normal Reese’s cup I am a two biter. Also, regarding the knob creeks, I’m going to have to make do with the nine year. The 12 year is so few and far between that it’s only the year for me.
so yesterday I popped into a store I had never seen before. they had Knob 9 single barrel select store pick (120 proof) for $50. Any thoughts on this one?
It's hard to say without knowing the palates that picked the barrel, but with that said, we've never had a bad Knob Creek pick. They've all been varying levels of really good to downright great, and are usually our favorite Knob Creek product available.
I love Knob Creek 9 but I’ve been buying Coopers Craft 100 lately. I need to blind them. The CC 100 is a hair darker than my Eagle Rare and it’s supposedly younger.
CC100 is a great bottle and we might prefer it. The extra step of notching the barrel staves does wonders for the flavor and color on that whiskey as you mentioned.
I'm with Club Erin on the Reese's ! One bite - such a waste ! As far as the KC9 vs KC12 I'll have to vote for the 12. That seems to be the sweet spot (candy reference 🙂) in the KC lineup.
I hate that we all have such different palates. I've been on this bourbon journey for about a year now. 50 bottles in personally, and tried many, many more and I just can't stand any Jim Beam products. I hate that I dislike KC9 so so much. I wish it weren't the case. Perhaps, I should try the 12 now. The way you guys described your previous experiences KC9 is my experience as well.
We hear ya Michael! As a counterpoint, it's kind of a good thing that we do have different palates, as it makes whiskey distillers do different things to cater to different flavor profile preferences, and we get so much more cool whiskey as a result. Cheers, thanks for watching, and to thine own palate be true!
I know prices vary widely, but in my market, KC9 is $42 and KC12 is $70. I think $28 more for a whiskey 3 years older AND freaking delicious is worth it. Now I have to try a 15 and an 18. Will I love them as much as 12? Let's find out. Anyone want to send me samples? 😂
It ain't a bite if your popping the whole peanut butter cup in your mouth. At LEAST 2 bites at bare minimum. Don't rush, savor the flavor, just like whiskey.
I will readily admit that i like KC12 better. But I rarely reach for it because LC9 is still fantastic and at Costco I see her routinely for under $20.
I'm with Erin on the KC 9 - I chose it over 12 in my blind also. But 1 bite Reese's! and the chocolate to peanut butter ratio is all wrong in those mini cups... My full KC blind was KC 9 120 SiB, KC 9, KC 12, KC 18 and KC 15 last...
I’m doing this exactly matchup, blind, while watching this video. Honestly… it feels like splitting hairs. I picked 9 once and 12 once. For that… I have to give the winner to the cheaper bottle.
Erin is correct. At least three bites for the regular peanut butter cups
i love all of 'em - 18 year, 15 year, 12 year, and 9 year, AND 9 year single barrel reserve to get that 120 proof bump!!
One bite. Everyone knows the rules!
KC12 is one of the best bourbons on the market. Period. It’s why I think people are crazy spending over $80 on any bourbon. $65 and pretty readily available (I’m in NJ ) and just brings so much flavor, quality and consistency. I love this channel for real.
These are both are so good. I do prefer the Knob Creek 12. Great comparison.
You know what I get from your vids? You guys love each other so much.
This is a very true statement, and if that shows through in our videos, then that's a beautiful thing. Cheers and thanks for the incredible compliment Tim!
I've got Knob Creek 9 - it's all that and a bag of chips for the money in the world we're living in now.
I’ll buy any Knob Creek offering all day every day, but the 12-year is the bell of the ball.
Split the difference and get the KC9 Single Barrel at 120 proof. They’re fairly readily available too.
agreed! then just add some water and taste again, then more water and taste again etc...
Fun fact about Luxardo cherries: I had an open jar in my pantry for about 5 years. The jar was half empty. They were still good! So stock up at Costco and bunker those cherries. Perfect apocalypse food.
Knob 12 is $48 here, knob 9 is $33. No brainer. Knob 12 is incredible.
Where?
@@epegr1075 upstate Ny, I’ve been buying the 12 for months.
Come to Canada - I had to pay $150.00 for a bottle - our taxes suck
@@canudigit5565 I’m not far from Canada lol
Very hard to find here in Va. must be allocated here. KC9 is readily available.

I literally spit out my Nashville Barrel Co. pour when y’all got tickled with the 15 year old Cherry talk 😂😂
😂 😂 appreciate you watching and commenting Paul! Cheers!
Between that and Erin liking it better with her right hand, I’m thinking we fell into the dark web or something…
The passive aggressive bickering is funny.
Glad you got a kick out of it! We certainly had fun on this one!
I think the Knob 9 Single Barrel 120 proof kicks the Knob 12's bootie... I'd always have that bottle on my shelf.
2 bites per peanut butter cup to maximize the joy 😂
Checked Va. ABC store in the morning, around 11:00, nothing interesting or allocated. Checked again at 4:00 in the evening (I’m retired) and there were 2 bottles of KC 12 on the shelf, limit one per customer. Nailed it!!😂
Buy Knob Creek 9 120 proof.... I would love the 12 at that proof, but I still love it!
KC 12 and KC SIB Select pick are the best. I find both on-line for $55 - $65 shipped.
I blinded KC9 KC12 and a single Barrel 9 and chose the regular 9. PB cup is one bite I’ll even shove a whole big cup in on occasion lol
Right on time! I am about to add a Knob Creek to the collection. I wonder what y'all would have thought about the 120 proof Single Barrel?
We love the proof bump and prefer those to pretty much everything else Knob Creek releases.
Settled for the 9 yesterday when looking for the 12. It was very good but not very great.....I eat the chocolate edge first then the disk of peanut butter

Two thumbs up to the best WhiskeyTube channel!!!
I passed on the 18yr. Bought the 12, same proof. Be interesting seeing you do all three Cheers
Bless her heart, but my mind was blown when she thought the 9 year tasted older.
I'm going to have to get a new bottle if that's the case.
It must have changed a lot!
Thanks for the videos.
KC12 is my fav KC by a wide margin. The 15, and especially the 18, oak notes are very bitter.
Skip both these and get Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve, priced between and 20 more proof points.
Eating a traditional size Reece's cup in one bite is insane. You have to savor the taste. Probably eight bites will work best.
Knob Creek 12 in one of my absolute favorites, especially for the price. Here in SoCal I’ve picked it up at Target of all places for the low $60’s. Knob 9 tend to go for $39.95 in most liquor stores here.

Multi-biter. No need to rush the eating of the Reese’s. Stop and smell the roses once in a while, Josh.
The mini cups are a lot of work because you have to unwrap 5 of them to make one bite:)
In Houston, the KC 9 is $28.50 at TW, and KC12 is essentially nonexistent, never seen it once. Crazy how much availability and price can vary by region. But I think at $29, I need to grab a bottle or two of the 9

Thought it was just the session, but had it again the next weekend and it was the same heavy citrus. Really good but weird. Never had a 9 that had any citrus.
Great blind for sure but KC12 blows the 9 out of the water for me but I do enjoy both

Three year increments seam to be their thing. 9,12,15,18yr and $30,$60,$110,$160.
I have the 9 year barrel proof, the 12, 15, and 18 year lined up on my bar. I guess I like KC😂😂😂
Never had the 12 Year, but I love the 9 Year for its value and quality.

I’m with Josh…one bite on the big ones. The mini Reese’s cups should be called Reese’s pieces.
I'm with Erin. Full size Reese's is about 3 bites, 2 minimum. I also agree with KC9 over KC12.
I used to very much love KC 12. But then I tried it next to KC 18. After that the 12 tasted exceptionally nutty. Every time I've gone back since, it's all nuts. It may be ruined.

So speaking of Old Fasion cherries! Use Woodford Reserve bourbon cherries and it will change your life. Use that juice as your simple syrup. 💥
Josh, one whole peanut butter cup in one bright is just so wrong. Erin is 100% correct. Two bites per cup are perfect!
I agree, would be interesting to do our own blind. A lot depends ln how much you feel comfortable paying.
KC12 on the shelf in Greensboro NC and a feature as well..69.99
Love both the 12 & the 9. Reece's cups in one bite! Pace yourself buddy.

One bite. No.........3or 4 bites. I'm an old guy and I've never known anyone to one bite a Reese's Cup.
so yesterday I popped into a store I had never seen before. they had Knob 9 single barrel select store pick (120 proof) for $50. Any thoughts on this one?
It's hard to say without knowing the palates that picked the barrel, but with that said, we've never had a bad Knob Creek pick. They've all been varying levels of really good to downright great, and are usually our favorite Knob Creek product available.
At my Costco the sell for$50 and $20! Knob Creek 9 is a great deal.
3 bites!
And I think the KC 12 is a straight up peanut butter cup 🥃
I love Knob Creek 9 but I’ve been buying Coopers Craft 100 lately. I need to blind them. The CC 100 is a hair darker than my Eagle Rare and it’s supposedly younger.
Love both of those. What a value Cooper's Craft 100 is.
CC100 is a great bottle and we might prefer it. The extra step of notching the barrel staves does wonders for the flavor and color on that whiskey as you mentioned.
I keep KC in my rotation. Have two 12's but haven't cracked being hard to find. Keep full proof store picks, they are tgr best.
I use to be a one bite Reese’s, but trained myself up to four bites to savor it longer.
Reece's cups are made to be eaten in 1 bite
A store by me has KC 12 for $46 and duty free has KC 9 for $24.50.
A friend once told me “ you would be surprised what you can fit into your mouth “ so I peanut butter cup I can believe.
Ratios matter for sure!
I’m doing this exactly matchup, blind, while watching this video. Honestly… it feels like splitting hairs. I picked 9 once and 12 once. For that… I have to give the winner to the cheaper bottle.
Erin a Reese cup was ONE BITE since I was 8 years old (60 years ago)
"We might need some time alone." 😂😂😂
😂 😂
Kc 12 is one of my favorites. I think much better than the kc 9. But thats my palate. And for Reese's its 2 bites per cup 😁
Shhhh don't let people know how good KC 12 is. 😂
One bite is both insane and reckless 😆
I’ll take that as a compliment. 😂
@RyeGuy97 I know, right?!?! 😂
3, maybe 4 bites, to savor it! BTW, you need to try the Reese's with potato chips with it!
“…cranked up to 11.” Or dare I say 12. 😅
Definitely a multi biter....gotta savor that flavor!
One bite. Sorry Erin.
1 bite-everyone knows how to eat a Reese's!!!
you can only hope they bring back the 120 proof 12 year then you can do this combo again but at 120 poof
2 bites for a Reese’s peanut butter cup! Hands down.
Regular Reese's cup is at least 4 bites minimum, never heard of anyone eating in 1 bite lol
