What I learned from this.... Dutch hates so much to be wrong he changes the past ( Time Lord ) Jules doesn't really know what he is drinking ( but doesn't much care ) and Dillon, well he just has so much detail in his reasoning as to why he believes in his knowledge, but is so mired in his confirmation bias he confuses himself. ( and he is sooooo wrong ).

I think this would be better if you did 4 single malts and 4 blended, there are plenty of big accessible brands to make that possible. They all should be unpeated to make it a more even blind tasting.

These blinds are my favorite videos. I think it's that I like when you guys blow your own minds.

It's amazing the Kirkland 12 was competitive at just a little over 1/3 the price per ounce of the others. My Dad has pointed out Blends were much more popular when he was my age. I would love to see you guys take a look at some of those "old man" blends that ruled the the pre-single malt craze 60's & 70's. Maybe a drink through of Grant's, Chivas Regal, Pinch, Buchanan's and Famous Grouse.

I like your idea of doing an all Malt and an all Blend blind tasting separately. I second Steven O's idea up upping the price to $50-$60 as a lot of quality comes in for $10 or $20 more. An option is to try 8 to 12 in 2 or 3 rounds and choosing the best (or the top 2) of each round.

    Great episode! My suggestions?
Reduce your effects volumes to equal, at most, those of your vocals, please. I'd also much appreciate a video chronicling your favorite available bottles from different spirits from each of you--"Top 3 or 5 of..." I'd buy them all.

Thank you for doing this blind tasting. I was considering getting the Kirkland 12yo, but now I can spend more elsewhere. Very informative.

Fun video! My favorites for under $40 in Texas: Old Pulteney 12 ($39), Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair ($39, 46% ABV), and Compass Box Great King Street $38. And one black horse: Johnnie Walker Jane Walker 10 ($38) which is 100% malted barley.

Now, that is a BLIND tasting! Glenlivet may have improved over the years--I used to think that Glenfiddich was the "better" one. Actually, Highland Park 12 would have swept the board, so it's Dillon for the win!

I think I may be buying the Glenlivet 12 gift pack for a buddy. He’s in dire need of some Glencairn, the price is pretty much “buy 2 glasses and receive 1 Glenlivet 12”. Illinois prices at Binny’s

I'm so happy to see this new channel with the expanded scope of drinks, specifically scotch. I have more than a few friends from across the pond, and they keep telling me how they don't like bourbon because of the burn, and that I should try scotch. I've tried a few, and they pretty much tasted like dirt or swamp or grass or something that I just didn't like. Even when I tell them I like the usual sweet tones that I get from bourbon, they tell me there's scotch that does that and better, but with no actual recommendations. I'm hoping you can help a fellow bourbon lover expand his drinking horizons.

Cheers! Welcome aboard! There are a few good "gateway" scotch's out there that are probably more appealing to bourbon fans. Check out Aberlour A'bunadh for one. A lot of the Glenmorangie line is also pretty accessible. We'll have more scotch content coming!

What determines the bottle on the shelf in the background (this time Jim Beam White Label)? It tends to change from time to time. Is there any significance to that bottle spot? Or is it just a random backdrop item? - Joel

As soon as Dutch said he got a lot of apple on the palate from the yellow, I instantly knew it must be the Glenfiddich 12. The apple note is a huge stand out for me on that one.

A friend recently brought a Kitkland 12 from the US.
I liked it initially and put it somewhere between Black Label and Chivas 12.
But, when I took the 3rd sip after 20-25 min, it had become a demon. Terrible aroma and flavor reminiscent of Indian rum.

The Kirkland 12 year blended was punching well above its weight class to beat the Johnnie. You had this as "under $40" but when you scale the $30/1.75 L to the 750 mL price you get $12.86/750 mL. That's an "under $15" whisky and damn near a $10 12-year-old whisky. It would be nicer at 90 proof instead of 80 though.

Emphasis on guessing is throwing off the point of what is best. Can you spend more time on why you liked your choice instead of arguing about your guesses which are just preconceived bias.
