Never thought I needed to use thimbles until last night. I hooked up on 3 sharks and third pulled the swivel through the 400lb mono. I'm a believer now! Haha
Great video. I learn to make my leaders from this video. Just one tip for beginners: Don't go cheap with the crimper tool, any crimper tool under $100 most likely you will lose the big fish like I do many times. Better crimper = better results.
Watching this in 2020 and I just couldn’t notice black tip used to stuu stuu stuttterrrr... in his videos amazing how much he’s changed haha great vid man
instead of haywire twist.. can you just crimp the line to the hook and swivle.. using a crimper.. and possibly do the twists only after that? im having a very difficult time with the haywire twist.. stressing me out
Josh, You're using High Seas crimpers? Which position in the crimpers are you using for the 500 lb mono and sleeve? I don't have my crimpers on me currently but I know I crimped with the second position from the mouth of the crimpers
Not all the videos but i asking this coz i don,t want to make especially for sharks i want to make for smaller size like barracuda and wahoo so i,m asking if i have mono 80 lb to 100lb and wire 80 lb to 100 lb should i crimp them or just tying the with swivels ?
also it is hard to slide my 1.5mm monofilament and wire through the 1.5mm double crimps, i cant get it through. Do i need to get bigger crimps? if soo how much bigger? thanks
Also im going to ft lauderdale next month for 2 weeks planning to do some shark fishing, if youve ever been there how was the fishing? And also if i have a kayak and bring out the bait was sharks could i expect to catch ? Thanks
Do you have to use certain crimpers depending on weather it's aluminum or copper crimp. I have p line heavy duty crimpers , but they have a needle like tip. Which on aluminum makes a sharp edge on a 50 lb crimp. What do you recommend?
How do you feel about burning the end of the mono after you put it though the crimp so when you pull it through so you dont have to cut the mono does not pop out of the crimp???
I've been wanting to get into Blacktip shark fishing off the coast of West Palm somewhere. Are there any special licenses I have to buy for florida coastal shark fishing? Thanks.
Thank you for breaking down crimping in your video. I fish sturgeon in California and interested in learning how to attach the hook to the leader. Current, I'm using 90 lbs 7 strand wire and 80 lbs fluorocarbon. My knots for the wire are failing would adding a crimp solve this for me? If so, how and where should I add the crimp. Thanks again for the video.
What brand and size thimbles are you using? I ordered some "small" size billfisher brand thimbles says for up to 200# but they are way too big even for my 250# fluoro
Have you switched over from using this cable to using heavy single strand? I've found that you can get this 49 strand cable at hardware stores much much cheaper than cable in the fishing store. It's also stainless steel, and I like how the 49 Strand doesn't kink so you get more uses out of it. Currently I use 200lb carbon coated wire for sharks, but I'm thinking of going over to the 49 strand with crimps.
+Jbay2608 I prefer wire over cable. I have had sharks bite through cable. They only need to bite through one strand at a time and eventually the cable fails.
+Outdoors FHS For thin braid you want to tie it. For heavy braid you want hollowcore. Learn how to splice loops. You splice a segment of braid onto your leader via the Chinese finger trap method. Then you splice a loop in the other end of the braid. Splice a loop on your mainline. Connect the loops with a loop to loop connection, a cats paw. That is the strongest connection for braid when big game fishing.
Other Technical reasons than the galvanic effect, for the Stainless to Aluminum. Left that out, in other comment. Can you talk about effect of over crimping Mono and under crimping. Looking to understand the sweet spot for maximum strength for Mono.
Can you crimp hooks by just feeing the line through the sleeve, then the hook eye, then back through the other side of the sleeve and then crimping it? can you attach subleaders to a leader by just crimping the two together with a sleve? sorry but one more questions. Do you really need the thimbles i dont see how they work. Any help would greatly be appreciated!!!!
I respectfully argue that stainless steel and aluminum DO NOT react (corrode) one another. We use stainless steel bolts, washers, etc. whenever we are attaching hardware to our aluminum boats because of the fact that they do not react to one another.
I wish u had a more in dept version of this going into the signifance of the thimble being needed and the type of material the sleeves are made out of in a more expansive way
Hey great video and tutorial! Just one question before I purchase thimbles! Should I keep aluminum thimbles away from cable just like the crimps or would that be alright?
Nice video. Everything is actually shown properly in terms of light, visibility of process, and all the important details are mentioned.

Danke für das tolle Video, das es mir wirklich hilft, zu versuchen, zu lernen, wie man meine Angelschnüre zusammen kratzt

Very well explained.
Just an excellent video.
Solid information. I've always been scared of crimping because I thought I'd damage the line.
thanks for the video, why cant you use copper sleeve on mono ?
thank you
Hands down..the best DIY video on crimping. Thank you.
Excellent stuff! I've been looking and looking for a video that explained this process, and yours is the best one.
Fantastic bro, thats great explanation , hope I learned how to crimp properly.
Awesome Tutorial!
Hey is it necessary to have to use a crimper like in the video to properley crimp or can you use another tool such as pliers?
nice video do more tutorials
starting from what size of mono line and wire we need to crimp ?
Great video! Really helps me out in starting to make my own leaders. Keep it up!
hey can recomend any crimpers that can handle up to 2.3mm under $50, thanks
Hey Bud where did you order that crimping tool from it is awesome.

how far do you have to bring out your bait in a kayak to get it near the big black tips and other sharks?
Great tutorial. Question what if your crimps are the shorter crimps that don't come out both sides of the crinper ? Thanks, Chuck
Chuck Rich Just crimp the entire sleeve.
am i able to use my 1.5mm double copper crimps on my 1.5mm mono? why should i use copper on wire and aluminium on mono?
thanks
Ok, I used the 3/64th space. I thought it looked a little too mashed. Should I recrimp in the 1/16th? Thanks for responding.
Also im going to ft lauderdale next month for 2 weeks planning to do some shark fishing, if youve ever been there how was the fishing? And also if i have a kayak and bring out the bait was sharks could i expect to catch ? Thanks
Hey josh. What happened to the 2012 and 2011 black tip challenge vids. All I saw were promos
How do you feel about spring loop line protectors for mono filament in place of a thimble?
really good material!
Do you have to use certain crimpers depending on weather it's aluminum or copper crimp. I have p line heavy duty crimpers , but they have a needle like tip. Which on aluminum makes a sharp edge on a 50 lb crimp. What do you recommend?
Hi. Can you tell me what Crimper that is so I can buy one.
Great, I'm now ready to fish for perch at my local lake. Thanks!
the crimper u use do u recomend that one or is any crimper ok ?
How do you feel about burning the end of the mono after you put it though the crimp so when you pull it through so you dont have to cut the mono does not pop out of the crimp???
If you crimp correctly, you will not have to worry about it slipping.
Thanks!!! How about loop protectors???
jman3336 They work.
Thanks!!!
what type of aluminum crimps do i need for 150lb mono and 200lb mono?
I've been wanting to get into Blacktip shark fishing off the coast of West Palm somewhere. Are there any special licenses I have to buy for florida coastal shark fishing? Thanks.
I didn't fully understand the reasoning behind crimping just the middle, would it be possible to explain in further detail?
Hello bro what is the brand of pliers?
Thank you so much! EXCELLENT job explaining the proper technique!
Hello! I have a 7-strand titanium leader thats aprox. 1mm dimension. What size of the double barrel copper sleeve do i need?
1mm sleeves should do the trick.
when im looking at crimpers it says 2.2 outside diametor so dose that mean i can not use 2.3 crimps
What brand of crisper is it please
Thank you for breaking down crimping in your video. I fish sturgeon in California and interested in learning how to attach the hook to the leader. Crimp the 7 strand, It will help. Tie the fluorocarbon.
why not burn the tag end of the mono as well?
Awesome video very informative
Where can we find the hand swager or crimp tool you used online? Any recommended sites?
Melton International Tackle

Thanks for the tip man. I have been doing it wrong for awhile
2 questions-
1.Do know a good website to buy cheap crimpersthey are pretty expensive?
2.How do you catch your shark bait?
Awesome video...thank you.
Can anyone suggest a starter kit for crimping?
You should be able to purchase a starter kit at Bass Pro.
Ok can I use braided line on the alluminum crimp or does it have to be mono
Outdoors FHS Don't crimp braid, just tie it.
ok awesome do i just tie it to a swivle then
Outdoors FHS Yes
+Outdoors FHS For thin braid you want to tie it. For heavy braid you want hollowcore. Learn how to splice loops. You splice a segment of braid onto your leader via the Chinese finger trap method. Thanks for the tips and demo definetely will be put to use.
How do you know what size of sleeves to use? The same diameter as the line?
BlacktipH what brand do you use for your crimps, thimbles, and your mono leaders?
LP mono, Pro Tackle crimps and thimbles. I purchase all of my supplies from Shark Outlet: sharkoutlet.com/
Great video! How do you know what slot to use?
By the size of the sleeve that you are using.
Other Technical reasons than the galvanic effect, for the Stainless to Aluminum. Left that out, in other comment. Can you talk about effect of over crimping Mono and under crimping. Looking to understand the sweet spot for maximum strength for Mono.
Good crimpers like his have the stops on each arm so you physically cannot squeeze any more. Buy crimpers like his.
Thank you for this!! Never tying another haywire twist again!! 😅😅
Where can I buy that crimping tool and what model is ? Thanks
You should be able to order it from Shark Outlet. It's a Centro heavy duty hand swager.
+BlacktipH Is the Centro CH-18 Heavy Duty Crimper and the Sea Striker CH-18 Deluxe Hand Crimper of equal quality? They look exactly the same?
+BlacktipH Will the Centro CH-18 Heavy Duty Crimper be compatible with the Sea Striker/Billfisher crimps?
can smashing it with a brick be a substitute for buying crimpers?
What is back braiding the cable
Where can I get that crimp tool?
Shark Outlet: bit.ly/1kkKUAF
Thx so much! I been looking everywhere
what brand crimper is that?
sweet video!! looks good!

I would recommend tying nylon.
Where did u get the cable

Even in 2012...you were a pro

True about copper with wire leaders, but can also use copper with mono.

On your amberjack video
great vid
y cant we use copper crimps for mono ?
This guy should be teaching this in college!!
Merci
I accidentally forgot the thimble. If I was hell bent on getting the crimp off how would I go about doing that?
WCSC10 you’d have to cut it and start over.
Thank you boss
Please do more tutorials :)
VERY PROFESSIONAL - THANK'S !!!
Hey great video and tutorial! Just one question before I purchase thimbles! Should I keep aluminum thimbles away from cable just like the crimps or would that be alright?
Use stainless steel thimbles with cable.
That's the thickest mono I've ever seen!
Those pliers seem like over kill but what do I know. Lol. But he is right on everything
Finally a good F** video!!!
I thought you never u use cable for sharks
Thanks
He said if u use cable for sharks they shred the cable
Technically speaking, why are copper crimps not good on Mono and Aluminum not good for Stainless cable. WHY is key word... Thanks in advance.
Aluminum and stainless will create galvanic corrosion. Read this for more info: www.leadertec.com/tipsandtechniques/crimp_techniques.html
I need to redo everything I did . Boy was I wrong
thanks man just asking
How do you calibrate the crimper?
100 pound- 200 pound.
Second!!:)
ipl
Third!!:]
First! :D
I noticed that you studer a lot
rubbish
