Use Offset to make weeding thin or small letters easier!

- Here is a little tip for you! If you are working on a project that has really tiny or thin letters, or even a really delicate design I have a tip for you! Adding an offset to your project can make weeding the vinyl easier. Here is why!
When you cut the project with an offset, and then first weed the offset away from the design there is less tugging and pressure put on the letters or design. Because of this there is less of a chance that those tiny little letters will pop off!
I did a full tutorial on this process at • Easy Way to Weed Thin ...
So add the offset, then select the design and the offset and click Attach. Attach holds the placement and postion of things, so then when you click Make and it goes to the cutting mat both the design and the offset will be on the same cutting mat.
I did a video showing how easy weeding vinyl was with an offset around everything. I weeded the centers of the letters, then the offset.
I added this info to my tutorial about Offset at www.shawnmosch.com/offset-in-...
Additionally, if you have a hand written item you want turned into a SVG, I highly recommend this resource tidd.ly/3OCGpoP

Wow! Great tip!
You may have answered my prayers.
I hope so! I honestly did this for the first time as a test, and I was so impressed at how well it worked that I had to make this video.
Life saver!!!❤
Amazing!!!
I’m new to cricut and struggling some with this. I didn’t quite get the offset correct like yours lol Can you make a video showing how you did this on cricut design?

Could you show the whole process? ❤
I will work on a vide for that!
Yes please!!! Because I have no idea how to do it

Great tip! What vinyl are you using ?
This is Siser EasyWeed. Make sure to check out my Vinyl Buyer's Guide to make sure you are getting the best price on your vinyl! www.shawnmosch.com/vinyl-for-cricut/
Great tip!! Do you have a video demonstrating how to get that handwritten recipe from the physical piece of paper all the way through to being ready to cut in cricket? I don’t even know how to save something from scratch and as a svg or png file (wtv is required) to make it usable using my iPad. Full on Beginner here. 😊
Since the hand written recipe was really old had tiny details I actaully hired someone off of Etsy to convert it to a SVG for me. They do this on a regular basis so that way I knew it would be really well done!
BRILLIANT!!!!
Thank you so mean you add an quite large offset around words and attached or welled together before sending to cut ? Thanks
You add a small offset . . . this one is about 1/4", and then select the words and the offset and click Attach before sending to cut

Genius
This is GREAT! I really could've used this a few days ago. I was doing a batch of hats and couldn't complete them because it was pulling up the letters. Just curious, if you're using a cricut to cut, are you using a Washi material setting and which vinyl are you using? Thank You!
I always use Siser vinyl, and I cut that on the iron on vinyl or iron on plus setting on my Cricut.
Thank you so much for sharing this. What material setting do we cutting on
I was cutting on the iron on setting for this, since I was using Siser HTV
Thank you for the reply
🤯🤯
Do you weld? Because when I don’t weld it wants to cut in two different mats and when I do weld you can’t see the letters only the shadow
You would have to attach, not weld. Weld is used to join things together
What base material do you select so it cuts best?
@@arianamaldonado1064 that depends on what you are cutting. For this I was cutting Siser iron on vinyl, so I used the iron on vinyl setting.
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Can you please make a video or refer me to a video that shows how to actually do this? When I use the offset function it is only cutting the shadow around my words, and not the letters within the shadow. Thanks in advance!
you would need to attach the offset and the letters so they cut together
Do you mean just group them together after I make the offset?@@TheShawnMosch
@@bainTV no, group will just hold them together on the Design Space canvas. If you want them to cut on the same mat in the same location as they are in this video use Attach. Attach holds placement and position
You saved my butt thank you so so much!@@TheShawnMosch

How do you cut that perfect? Mine rips the vinyl
what brand of vinyl do you use? This is Siser Easyweed
Does this hack work for infusible ink sheets ?
I have not tried it with infusible ink sheets. If you test it out let me know!
I can’t get the small letters to stay on the paper and they continue to stick to the whole.. some stick some transfer.. trying to figure out a good way to get them to stick while removing the unusable outside stuff. Any suggestions on that? Do I use a deeper cut on my Cameo? Instead of 1/10 use 2/10?
are you using regular vinyl or HTV?
You can dona tutorial ‘’’?’’ Thanks you you are magnificent
Can you clarify what you want a tutorial on?
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
How did you offset each word? When I do my offset, it just makes an offset around the entire text block. I watched your tutorial video, but you only had one word. Thank you!
I selected all of the words at the same time and clicked Offset
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Why does it on yours, when cluck on make it and you're looking at matt your letters are all black but mine are coming with a white line tracing the outlines of the letters. Please help i followed all of your steps
I have never seen the lines have a white outline. If you want to send me an email with a picture of what you are seeing I can help troubleshoot more.
Is there a specific Off Set, such as a number or anything.? Do you weld your text also? Thanks!
The size would depend on your design and the font. You would not weld . . . attach, not weld. Weld would join the text and the offset together. Attach holds placement and position.
@@TheShawnMosch thanks so much!
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
So do you attach the offset later to the words? Its shows words and offset on different mats for me.
If you make the offset and the words the same color and attach then it will work perfectly
@@TheShawnMosch I did it and it worked great! Thank you!
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
How did you get the offset to not be a separate layer
After you add the offset, select the original text and the offset and click Attach. This will hold them in the same spot from the canvas to the cutting mat and put them on the same cutting mat.
OMG thank you so much this was the missing piece I needed. I couldn't figure out how to keep them together. Thanks so much
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
What cut setting did you use?
I used the iron on vinyl setting
@@TheShawnMoschI've been shredding matte black vinyl. Trying to cut small letters.
@@planning_with_patches5860 what brand of vinyl? Could you use HTV instead?
@@TheShawnMosch Matte Black Orcal
@@planning_with_patches5860 the vinyl in this video is HTV. If you can use that, I highly recommend it!
How do you put an offset or shadow around ??
In Cricut Design Space there is an Offset button. It is on the top panel of you are using the computer version of Design Space.
the more detailed tutorial on this process is at ua-cam.com/video/Q8aDs7y0564/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Do you need to combine or attatch ?? I’m having trouble it wants to go on another mat
You can Attach to make sure that the offset and the cut are the same color, and that the offset stays perfectly in place around the lettering!
@@TheShawnMosch thank you, and thank you for sharing this! I had just tried weeding thin letters, that wasn’t working, this will be a huge help.
@@sheriswanson9895 when I did this the first time it was just to test it out and see if it would work . . . I was weeding hand written text from a recipe card and I needed to do 10 of these and was so frustrated after the first one!
Once I did this trick, the rest of them went SO MUCH FASTER!!!!!
Ohh, I think I finally got it. Group and attach, will keep it together, and not on desperate mats.
@@TheShawnMosch
Oh my gosh! I would have been frustrated too.
How much of an offset is this please?
I believe I did 1/4" for this one, but how much to do will depend on your project. If your words are really close together you might have to go smaller.
