I regain my weight after 6 months of diagnosis. I eliminate many things from my life . I struggled a lot , now i am getting results , i know it is very hard to live with disease but believe me nothing is impossible , your will power plays a important role in this.
Yes I am! Since then I was dealt a really tough set of cards and was in a flare since I was 8. I ended up at 14 getting what was supposed to be a temporary ostomy bag but the remaining portions of my intestines caused abscesses, infections, fistulas and issues with my other organs so I got a full colectomy at 18. I still flared until February of this year and at age 20 now is the only time I have been healthy my whole life and I am in my junior year of college finally living a semi-normal life thanks to new meds! @@NoblePoptart
My initial hypothesis can be misleading, but what I am saying was with IBD you should be cautious with high fiberous foods because they can cause symptoms, and I am living proof, I also have IBD and I get serious pain in the abdomen as well as my entire body whenever I eat healthy high fibrous foods, however when I eat low fiber foods such as white bread, pasta and rice my symptoms and energy levels dramatically improves. I was in no way trying to advise against a healthy diet!
asemicolonuk I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 5 years ago, I've had an ileostomy and now he a reversal. I can historically say that a healthy diet has only ever made me worse. Fresh Vegetables, acidic food such as fruits and fresh spices cause me nothing but pain to the point of vomiting and bleeding. When I first got ill I lost 10 stone in 4 months because my parents were feeding me fresh fruit and vegetables which were cutting up my insides causing blockages and massive amounts of pain. Give me a McDonald's burger with no salad and I can be pain free from it. Everyone is different with their Crohn's disease and what affects one person, another may be fine with. As a nurse with Crohn's disease i would of thought you would be more aware of that fact.
My husband went Vegan and says he feels ten times better. His bleeding has stopped too. I do the same diet as him so he doesn't feel left out and it's improved me too. He has Crohn's with Diverticulitis. We're working on getting rid of gluten but I need to do more research on what foods to replace it with before we do that. Right now he's eating sourdough bread in the place of regular bread and we're seeing how it goes. He's probably going to need a blood transfusion because of how much blood he lost before the change. He still has anemia unfortunately but his levels did go a tiny bit higher since he's not bleeding even half as much!!
22 now, was dx with Crohns when i was 7. similar story to her, i was fed out of a nasogastric tube for 8 weeks preceding colon resection which put me into remission for 14 years or so. Crohn's flared recently and i'm currently trying Humira, which isn't really working..:/
Went to Liverpool today with my husband. ‘The drop’ (as I call it) happened and I had to race over to M & S, up the escalator and across to the disabled and baby changing toilet (im very middle aged). As I approached I saw a mother take the door handle to enter. I showed her my card, apologies and said that I had Crohns which was a bowel disease and I needed to use the toilet very quickly. She refused. Her baby had a nappy on. Her baby could be washed and changed with minimal inconvenience. Where do I wash myself in Liverpool city centre or should I never leave the house? I have to say that Liverpool (my amazing husband is from a large Liverpudlian family) is hands down the worse place to have Crohns. This has happened to me at least three times in M & S Liverpool. Women wont let you jump the queue if the disabled toilet is occupied either. Disabled toilets should be for Radar key holders only. They should be for those with a disability only. Not for mothers who don’t want to queue for the regular toilets with their kids. Not for people who ‘won’t be a minute’. When you have a bowel disease leaving the house is so stressful. You have seconds sometimes. There are times when I feel that it’s not the disease that is the biggest hurdle, it’s the people you have to deal with. Really distressing day tbh. Really distressing.
Don't know if this will help anyone. I have had it a while now. I find drinking at least 2 litres of water a day helps and staying of dairy. I talked to another person with it and he was also lactose intolerant. I hope this helps someone. P.s i a non dirnker and non smoker.
A friend of mine recently told me her Crohn's Disease was linked to her mother being of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage. I'm sure many non Jewish individuals have it too.
I reas that somewhere too. I wonder though if being Ashkenazi Jewish and Chron's has something to do with the fact that they marry within their community so the gene spreads more easily. Or maybe because Chron's manifests itself in stressful situations, if maybe after what Jews have been through in ww2, they were more prone to it.
I've been in complete remission for just over a decade after a long battle with Crohn's.I've had bowel resections, anal surgery (fistulas).i take Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides (AMP) every day.Nothing worked for me like AMP, been on steroids,Immune suppressing meds (which gave me awful side affects) 5ASA's.Thankfully i read Dr Ivan Danhof's research into the anti inflammation & immune modulating properties in the polysaccharide chains in Aloe.It has given me my life back.
a lot dont have an understanding of how the disease works like being tired all of the time constant running to the bathroom and the pain and the nausea and medications u have t take for the disease to go in remission but sometimes it doesnt happen and going to the hospital for when it gets bad we crohns disease patients who have it we have to watch what we eat and drink i cant even eat my other family cooking bcause i dont want to go to the er even celebrities have it also like shannon doherty so pls dont judge us for a disease that cripples and hurts and if u have a family member or friends with it go with them to an appt for u to get understanding of it

Had crohns for 63 years, diagnosed in 1982 after seven years struggling with doctors. First symptoms at fifteen in the army ( yes you could join as a boy soldier) completed twelve years service. Army called it grumbling appendix. Left in 1972 still struggling. M like many others had operations and hospital, locum doctor had seen these symptoms before. Now they want me to try meds that can lower your immune system called hurima (I think) . Anyone taking this? Keith
