Looking at their Reddit posts, the network was supposed to be called "Death Star" in reference to the oft-used slang for AT&T's logo looking like the Death Star in Star Wars, but got pushback from their marketing department (who didn't want to use the word "death" in the name) and their legal department (since Disney owns the trademark to "Death Star"), so they had to change it.
I have US Mobile using Dark Star, I activated with eSim on my Samsung S20+5G. If you bring your number to US Mobile you can get your first month free which includes 30GB data and unlimited talk/text. That's what I did and it works flawlessly. My next months plan will only be $25, that includes all taxes and fees, and will get you 35GB data along with unlimited talk/text. if you get around to testing teleport, we'd love to hear about it here or reddit! glad it's working for ya, it's a carrier i'm starting to recommend more and more often these days.
Stetson Doggett has recommended that I use US Mobile when I visit the USA, I live in New Zealand and here I use a carrier called One NZ which used to be Vodafone NZ and they have great coverage here and even better customer support I would 100% recommend One NZ to anyone who wants to visit New Zealand
It’s a decent option, but you would have to activate the SIM or eSIM in the USA, whereas Tello, which runs on T-Mobile, allows eSIM activation outside the USA. That’s what I did here in England before I went to Northern California in March of this year. If you know that you will have good T-Mobile coverage in the location(s) you will be in during your trip, it’s worth considering, as you can get set up at home in NZ before you reach the USA
stetson knows his stuff, i'd trust his reccomendation! US Mobile isn't a bad option. i also like Mint Mobile for the ease of eSIM. depends on how long you'll be around since you buy service from Mint in 3-month increments... Visible Mobile is another great eSIM option (depending on device... Visible requires on iPhone for eSIM)
@@whistleout When I visit the USA I’m typically only there for about three weeks so Mint is not an option I have worked out what I can do on US Mobile and that is activate GSM 5G while still in New Zealand give my number to the people who take care of my dog and when I arrive in the USA use US Mobile’s network switch feature to switch to Warp 5G or Dark Star 5G if needed so I use the network that has the best coverage in that area

Boost Mobile offers 3 networks and automatically switches between T-Mobile AT&T and Dish so US Mobile isn't the first to offer it and boost does it better because it does it automatically depending on which coverage is better so you don't have to do anything unlike with US Mobile.
@@gabeulrickson2496 only when roaming on T-Mobile or ATT not on their dish native network and you can get other plans with more data they have a 50, 60, and $65 plans with more data the $65 plan includes the free upgrade every year.
If you’re unlucky enough to get the rainbow SIM(Dish), good luck. That auto switching only works with select few phones at the moment. You have to completely lose coverage of a signal for it to switch. It doesn’t automatically select the network that has the best signal when you only have 1 bar with the current network you’re on.
So, not as seemless as the Boost Infinite (now just Boost Mobile) Smart Network. While I realize they have Dish/TMO and ATT towers to use, it was seemless. We were in Alaska a few weeks back. My wife's iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Boost Rainbow SIM picked ATT towers every time I checked. My Mint Mobile phone struggled. I switched to my Visible SIM for better coverage. As long as Boost is fiscally healthy, I'll probably move to them after my year long pre-paid plan is close to expiry. They gave her a Rainbow SIM when we BYOD her iPhone 15 PM. I should get one with my iPhone 15 Pro, so three networks and no need to manually switch. It handles all of that for the user.
i'm a hopeful a smart network is on the way! once they do that... US Mobile will be THE standard. Sounds like ya'll have a circus of plans to choose from haha basically teleport the old fashioned way 😎
@@whistleout First, thanks for your content. Regarding my menagerie of plans, I wanted to make sure we had coverage if coverage was available. Wifey is driving Boost Infinite and Visible to have access to 4 networks. Yes, I had to "teleport" of sorts with my phone. Basically turned off Mint and just used Visible. She had relatively few issues on Boost as it just sorted it out. (I'm not so sure how well Cellular Data Switching on iPhone actually works. I thought it would be a bit more seamless. Apparently, if it's getting dialup internet speeds, it thinks it has coverage, LOL.) I have two phones, as my employer provided work phone is on ATT. My personal has Mint and Visible to give me options as well. Frankly, I pay less on the MVNOs than I did with a single line on ATT for each of us. It paid off in Alaska where the Boost Infinite phone just figured it out while I had to move a few more knobs and levers with my personal phone. We both run iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max models FWIW. (Purchased directly from Apple so we are not locked in.) I'm just waiting to see how healthy Boost (SATS is the ticker for the parent company) is and the earnings call is coming up tomorrow 9 August. If they seem to be circling the drain, I may have to move wifey to a more stable MVNO. If they seem to be recovering, fiscally, I'll consider moving my personal line to them come November when my year of Mint is up for renewal.
