I recently did a Mun landing where I accidentally landed within 2km of the Armstrong Monument, without even knowing it until I had taken off for the return trip.
Kerbnet is a huge part of the game that I think a lot of people never figure out, they never get geosynchronous orbits on a large scale network, which then let's you prove explore and eventually go further. It's really cool how the SATs let you use the network to mark and identify locations and different probe cores and sensors do different things. I think a lot of people never see it work. That's sad. The game looks old but it's actually amazing once you get it right, I'm flying a C-130 that I made over an ocean to airdrop a rover to do the mission which I'll pick up after by landing nearby and fly back, it's what you make it.
Matt should make a surface base but its in the middle of a mun arch but its also not on the grounds its floating You could try using grabbing units to do that
I didn't know about the easter egg locator until I decided to scan the Mun and I found a marker. So I said "maybe there........." And I found a monolith. Then I was orbiting around the Mun at low altitude and I found an arch. It's pretty easy to see form space I dind't expect.
The saying goes "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his days" or something like that. I don't exactly remember the second half but it's something similar
The probe cores do have a varying probability of showing anomalies/easter eggs, depending on model. My procedure has been to stick a probodobodyne rovemate core on a satellite meant for high polar orbit (usually a comms relay or the survey scanner sattelites). These cores have 100% anomaly detection... but on the downside, they have a ridiculously narrow FOV, something like 5-10 degrees while in flight. Not a great FOV at all... unless you're in a sufficiently high orbit to sweep broad swathes of the planet, which is something the survey scanner, or certain comms relays or satellite contracts might find desirable.
Hey I feel like it would be kind of cool to build and send a massive research vessel beyond the solar system. Kinda like the voyager probe irl but crewed. Maybe you might find something beyond the solar system.
I'm over here in the Pacific Northwest and 40C is fucking AWFUL. As you may know we had a weird weather event where it was like 15 C over average. Close to 20 c above in some areas
Right but that's not an honest comparison, because - People in Virginia are more acclimatised to higher temperatures - Air conditioner units are everywhere, in the UK aircon indoors is quite unusual, especially in homes (I have never been in a house with aircon)
If you like to mod the game, scansat also shows Easter eggs. As for Matt, I know a good visual mod I can recommend for you is reentry effects it adds sparks and plasma trail to your ship when entering the atmosphere.
That’s a cool function, but I’d rather use scanSAT because it forces you to first build satellites to scan the surface gradually before finding anomalies
You have to be pretty high up, but you can use the Probodobodyne RoveMate as a probe core and it has 100% anomaly detection. It's not limited to surface detection.
Irony: The SSTO has a probe core with double the chance of finding anomalies than the ship designed to find them. :) But I'm omitting information to make the joke work. The Mk2 Drone Core's field of view is very narrow unless you're in a suborbital trajectory. I haven't tried finding anomalies with the Mk2 core, but I have tried the Rovemate core which has a 100% chance of finding anomalies and an even narrower field of view. The Rovemate's FoV is so narrow, it's basically impossible to use it to find anomalies from space. You either cover too little ground or have to orbit too high to see them. The large RGU might be the best all-round core for the job, with the small RGU (as Matt uses here) being a close second. If you have the MPO probe, it's about as good as the large RGU.
The new maneuver node and alarm clock app barely even work tbh I mean for maneuvers you can just use mechjeb so not a big deal but I really hoped the alarm clock app would’ve made kerbal alarm clock obsolete but doesn’t seem like it will
