Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo is known as the "Daddy of 'em All", beginning in 1897. While you have the standard bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding and steer roping (individual and team - George and his son are ropers), there's a lot more as it's now a 10-day fiesta with lots of things to do and see.
Been riding with George since “Amarillo by Morning “ I’m now 77, so I guess I’m an old troubadour. My husband and I have Texas Two- Stepped thousands of steps to George.
What does George Strait mean to me? He is my entire adult life and late teens. I am from Texas. When he came onto the scene in my late teens he filled a huge void in country music at the time. And has ever since.
If I had to listen to one singer/group for the rest of my life, it would be George Strait with his Ace In The Hole Band. 60 Number 1 hits, still married to his high school sweetheart, awesome voice, best backup band in the world, never any drama and a class act! I got his autograph on the steps of his tour bus at 12 midnight. Amarillo By Morning, Marina Del Ray and You Got To Have An Ace In The Hole are among my favorites.
There's two things about Cowboy's that sets them apart from other athletes. 1) EACH ride could result in their death. 2) They don't have an ounce of quit in them. These guys are next level tough.
George Strait has more # 1 hits than anyone else in history, any genre. He has more than Elvis and the Beatles combined! Not my favorite, but he is the GOAT.
I’m a Texan. My family are rodeo contestants, stock contractors, or ranchers, for six generations. Always have respected the sentiments in these lyrics. I’ve witnessed the back-at-the-ranch mother or grandparents, - as well as the traveling rodeo cowboys and cowgirls, throughout my entire family. Some sacrifices are worth it! I saw George Strait live, front row in 2019. He was great.
I'm seeing George this Saturday at the Las Vegas Rodeo!!!! I listen to "I Saw God Today", every morning to remind to look for all miracles and things to be grateful for in my life! I've loved George since 1985!
Little did we know it would be our last, but my wife and I attended a George Strait concert one year before she passed away from cancer at the age of 47. I'm so grateful and blessed we were able to attend before she passed away. Check out Charley Pride "Standing In My Way" for three chords and the truth! How many people can relate to this song!
Sorry for your loss...my dad died when I was 16 in 2001....he loved Chris ledoux and it's nostalgic to me. I actually got to go to his concert a few years before his death.....I'm glad I got to see him live
I’ve always thought the life of the rodeo man as similar to a touring musician. Long absences from family, obsession with their craft that can make loved ones feel second best. The hard road life is why songs like this, Bob Seger’s Turn the Page and Jackson Brown’s Loadout all touch the same place in our hearts. Solid gold.
RIP to Gene Elders, fiddle player since the 1970s for George Strait's band, Ace In The Hole. Also, RIP to Erv Woolsey, who was George Strait's long time manager and friend, and who co-wrote this song as well as other hits. Both passed away on the same day -- March 20, 2024.
I saw Strait in Albuquerque in 1996. His first box set had been released. He went through so many deep cuts plus hits. It was amazing. David Lee Murphy was the opening act, and that was terrific, as well.
In the Western U.S., there are a number of predefined Rodeo "circuits," with set dates each season for each city on the route. The circuit is laid out so that a competitor can follow that route and compete in as many cities as possible with minimal deadtime and minimum wasted travel. You don't HAVE to pay the fee and compete in every city on the circuit; but if you want to, it's laid out efficiently. The guy in the song was going to skip a couple of cities and come home for a bit, mid-season. But once he learned that there was nothing to come home to, he decided he'd stay on the circuit and compete in the next city (which happened to be Cheyenne) after all.
If you want to get the 100% experience of George strait you should look up songs like , Last in Love, The king of Broken Hearts, Your dancing this dance all wrong, Home in San Antone, Fool Hearted Memory, Leavings been coming, nobody in his right mind, a heart like hers, cold beer conversation, you still get to me, the king of mountain, what would your memories do, if I know me, is it that time again, Friday night fever, holding my own, cowboy rides away, you can’t buy your way out of the blues, sometimes love, I’m all behind you know, and the list goes on
Rodeo, like race car driving gets in your blood. It becomes your identity. It's who you are. It's not a matter of if you get hurt, it's when and how bad. I rode for years, and my wife hated every minute of it, but she knew she wasn't gonna change me. When my daughter was born, I knew my rodeo days were over. I could be a cowboy or a daddy. Being a daddy is a lot scarier, and at times more painful, but well worth it. I may not rodeo anymore, but I still wear my hat and boots. I took her to her first rodeo and she got so excited she fell asleep in momma's arms lol. Y'all have a blessed evening.
Congrats on understanding the importance of fatherhood over your personal goals/preferences. Hope you're making it up to your wife, who missed out on the normal partnership benefits while you were gone.
King George is a real-life cowboy. He was foreman of one of the biggest ranches in Texas before his music career took off. He's always been as comfortable on the back of a horse as he is on stage in front of 100,000 cheering fans. Strait has 33 albums that have been certified either platinum or gold, and he's been married to his childhood sweetheart for 53 years.
I got to see George in concert on his farewell tour as this young guy sitting behind me said when George started singing this song “he really is a good looking man”. I absolutely love George strait I’ve been a fan since he came to the scene in 1981❤❤❤❤
Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Calgary Stampede are the two largest rodeos in the world. If you want to see a great rodeo with the best riders you want to go to Cheyenne Frontier Days
I believe Cheyenne is the site of the National Finals Rodeo? Among other events, I'm sure. Also, when I was stationed in San Diego, George gave a free concert on NAS Miramar, public invited. It was a great show.
@SebsDuran George Straight puts on an excellent concert! I’ve been to 7 since 1983-present. Worth every penny! Oh and front row seats to all but 1 which was 7th row! I hope you get opportunity to go to 1! And a Chris Stapleton concert with is just epic! I’d have to admit that Chris’s concerts are the best!
Any video from this Astrodome Concert is awesome. Quite a few cameo appearances from other country stars and the 360 degree rotating stage is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS is huge. One of the top rodeos in the country. FYI. Chris Ledoux was a World Champion Bronc Rider that became a great Country/Western singer. Check him out
At the age of 12, I learned to 2-step with my dad while watching a guy with a band called Ace in the Hole. It was a very young King George. I fell in love with George and country music that night. That was 50 years ago.❤❤❤
I’m from Texas. Grew up on hip hop, metal…we’re called “goat ropers” when you love all of that stuff but listen to any country. KING GEORGE is just about the only country I’ll listen to and feel it in my soul.
Yes, the Frontier Days rodeo in Cheyenne every July. I'm from Washington State but I had occasion to go to that rodeo a few years ago. It's big, classic and includes celebrity entertainment. Kind of a mob scene compared to other rodeos I've been to over the years, honestly, but a lot of fun.
When my son was 5 yo he said he wanted to become a professional wrestler and he never let go of that dream. He graduated high school early and left home (Texas) at 17 to go train in the Northeast (kind of epicenter of wrestling). He's been at it for 10 years now and that life is very similar to rodeo-- always traveling and always potential of serious injury or even fatal injury. It has definitely made it difficult for him to find the right woman--one who can handle that life.
I have seen this man live a few times and he is just always incredible. Such a pro. And he has my heart because he doesn't just sing cowboy sings, he is an honest-to-goodness rancher, rodeo cowboy, horseman. And a true gentleman. ❤
I once won a radio contest and got to go backstage to meet George. I was pretty Star struck but he just seemed like a 'regular' kind of guy. We talked briefly about his music, fishing and how he was happy to be in my part of the country. He shook my hand and it was obvious he worked on a farm. His grip was rough, strong and kinda bony. I am not that tall and he posed with me and my wife. In the picture he and I are the same height but his belt buckle was at least three times the size as mine...He is the King!
I have a play list called Just George that would take a few days to get through. I’ve seen him live multiple times including his dance hall days. I sang & danced with my babies to George. My daughter, a preschool teacher plays George’s Christmas songs for her class.
Merry Christmas from Idaho Sebs, I come from cowboy stock and ended up being a pilot. However, I am around these men often and know many. I know you fantasize about wanting to be a cowboy and I love it too. However, as far as a job, you would never work harder in your life. Literally daylight to dark, hard physical labor, endless hours and little sleep or credit for it. Men that do the job do it because they love it. The whole independent, free, backbone of America kind of people. I loved growing up a Western man and learning what that means and how to really be a man.
Greeting from so tx....like your perspective..guy who wrote several for the king named jimmy lauderdale his whisper album or planet of love...for to to sit back and just feel. Yeah man,...ps nice tele hanging behind ya. ❤😊
"Fool Hearted Memory" and "Unwound" were two of the first songs of Georges I remember hearing. They came out after a bad breakup for me. Just his voice and the songs on the radio in my car at night, let me know I was not along in having a hard time with my love life.
I road tripped 850 miles to see George Strait in Nashville last summer. Well worth it. But the joke was kind of on me, because this past summer he played in New Jersey, where I live lol. Troubador is hands down my favorite song by George.
I've looked this song up is a tribute to Lane Frost ( a famous bull rider who was killed in Cheyenne.). There is a movie based on Lane Frost's life called 8 seconds. Here's what I found to be exact: Yes, "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" is widely understood to be a song about Lane Frost, a famous bull rider who tragically died at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo, making the lyrics directly referencing "Cheyenne" strongly connected to his story.

King George!! US Army veteran and true cowboy and king of country music.
...so true! I think this came out about 30 years ago and he's still drawing a huge crowd.
There's two things about Cowboy's that sets them apart from other athletes.
1) EACH ride could result in their death.
2) They don't have an ounce of quit in them.

I like to consider "Beaches of Cheyenne " as a sequel to this song. They fit so well together
I was thinking that same thing. Kind of puts the line "always expected the worst in the back of her mind" line into context.
@@ladygwen2463 I totally agree 👍 🇺🇸💙
and imo done by the 2 greatest country artists of all time George and Garth
So true!!
He's the King of Country for a reason!! Love some George Strait!!!!
That man will ALWAYS be the king of country music!
George is the King! In his 70's he's setting stadium attendance records!! Holy crap!
Honestly, there is absolutely no such thing as a bad George song.
No flash. Just the voice & the song. Danced all my babies to sleep to twin fiddles & a steel guitar. Always a great show. Love George! 🇺🇸💙
That was the basic message behind his 1992 movie "Pure Country".......
George Strait is absolutely the best! Not frills, no pomp and circumstance, just great talent providing great music and entertainment!
Greetings from Cheyenne Wyoming. Home of "The Daddy of 'em All" Cheyenne Frontier Days. The World's largest outdoor rodeo.
He's basically saying, ok than see you I'll miss you but the rodeo goes on.
Perfection is what George Strait is

I fell in love with him the first time I heard Amarillo by ‘morning. Then, The Chair and You call me the Fireman! Love your channel.
Your thumbnail text immediately brings to mind the title of a Toby Keith song "Should've been a Cowboy" 😁
He's still selling out venues. He'll be on stage this weekend here in Vegas. A true country classic still all these decades later. ❤😊

George Strait is awesome…
The King!! My Dad met him before he was famous in the early 80s while he was bouncing at a bar. He's still got his pic and signature.
I saw George at the Calgary Stampede many years ago. He had Miranda Lambert and Tracy Lawrence with him. One of my all time favourite concerts!
I saw George Strait 3 times back in the 80's, just a wonderful performer! Rosemont Horizon was name of the place in Rosemont IL.
I can hardly believe I've loved this song since its release 26 years ago.

Saw George Strait at Cheyenne Frontier Days. Great concert!
I see George Strait….i click
I saw George Strait once, in the late 80s/early 90s, performing at Cheyenne Frontier Days. Epic, and long before rodeo concerts cost an arm and a leg!

I‘m from Germany and I Love his songs.
Also Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Alabama, Garth Brooks
Frontier Days. I went when I was 16 (50 years ago) the greatest rodeo ever. You need to try and go. I enjoy your reactions Sebs.
Such a beautiful song. Love George! I agree that you’ve got to react to “I Saw God Today”. Another is “The Best Day”. Both are absolutely beautiful!

This is from 90s. Please do more of his 80s classics
No smoke, fancy lights just singing and still sells out
KING GEORGE! All he has to do is stand there and sing and became a legend! He still works his ranch in Texas! True Cowboy!
Love Mr. Strait❤ seen him perform so many times at the Houston rodeo. Always a great show
Cheyenne frontier days. We go every year. You should go.

George has a fun song called "The Fireman"
The King.....
This is one of my favorite songs
Love me some George Strait ❤❤❤❤
He is a wonderful, great storyteller.

I saw him at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and later in concert in the mid 90's. He looks like a cowboy because he is a cowboy.
