    Getting from London to Amsterdam via a train and arriving there just 15 mins later than a person travelling by airplane honestly shows the superb state the European train network is in!

    I've binged all your train vs plane races and I love your style. It's really funny how the train is only slightly late for both Amsterdam and Edinburgh, when I would expect the train to be faster option for the latter. As a fan of trains I think a drawback of Eurostar is that you still need to do the passport control (even if you got away easy this time). I know you are UK based, but it would be really interesting to compare journeys in the Schengen area, eg Amsterdam-Frankfurt or Paris-Milan, as you can literally just hop on the train minutes before departure. Amsterdam-Frankfurt should take only about 4.5 hours, but DB trains are notorious for being delayed which might add to the suspense. Paris-Milan takes somewhat longer at almost 7 h, but you get views of the Alps and the executive seats on the frecciarossa are really luxurious from what I've seen on youtube, so it would be a nice comfortable ride at 300 kph. To make this one comparable maybe try travelling with luggage and take public transport to the airport. Looking forward to the next race!

      If you mean London - Amsterdam, it's really all the same, nothing overly impressive and (at least out of LHR) delays, I spent two weeks bouncing around Europe and the UK and yeah, the train is the way to go at least to the 3 hour flight boundary.

      For Short distance flight it’s not worth it to fly with those expensive airlines (Lufthansa, British airways, klm) since the services is the same as with easyJet it eurowings. If you fly long distance it’s better to fly with them

    I normally really like Schiphol, but if Liam had landed on the Polderbaan he might still be on the plane. ;) It would be interesting to see the relative costs, as Nicky took the expensive version of the train, but I don't know about Liam.

    Somewhat ironically, the quick and frequent train services to and from the airports played a major role in the plane beating the train. Imagine having to wait for a bus... Or worse, taking Ryanair from Stansted to Eindhoven (cheaper, but would probably take 5 hours for this race)...

    Calculating from door to door the train is a big time win for me. I always fly from Eindhoven to Stansted. The total time of traveling from my house to st Pancras is over an hour more than by train. But train is more expensive, so depends on the plans for us.

    Delays could impact the train too, so buffering is important. BTW Eurostar did suffer long lines during the summer, so if you can easily afford Business Premiere, then it is worth the shorter lines and the extras, such as the lounge and included hot meal.

    Considering the Business Premier checkin and security makes a huge time saving, it's not 100% a like for like comparison to an economy class ticket on KLM. I would love to see the comparison with a bog-standard eurostar ticket with the huge queues mentioned :)

    Most interesting - the train is my preferred mode of travel. I’d like to see less of the race aspect and see how the two compare in natural time. I doubt I could , in fact I know could not, run from Centraal to Dam Square.

  • @danielh4295
    @danielh4295 Рік тому

    A 4hr train ride is in the sweetest spot where it is the most preferable mode to take over air. However, given the the fact that the flight was from City Airport to Schiphol (which is extremely close and well connected to the Amsterdam Central) it negated a lot of benefits offered by rail. Great race and I'd still take rail any day of the week.

    I am from Amsterdam but lived in London for three years. Therefore I made this journey about 50 times. Unfortunately, the tickets of KLM are usually about 1/3 of the price compared to Eurostar. In case you fly EasyJet (LHR - AMS) it can be even cheaper. That said, I would have definitely chosen train over plane if the prices were not that high. Not sure what the price differences are at the moment.

    Next time y'all's are in the states, you should do a train vs plane between Miami and Orlando once Brightline starts service between the two. The flight takes approx 1 hr & 15 minutes while the train (which is a diesel powered Siemens trainset similar to Austria's Railjet) is expected to take around 3 hours.
