As a brussels airlines flight attendant who frequently works the bru-lhr route I am absolutely gutted I wasn’t working this flight. Would have loved to have you on board! Glad to see Nicky won!
Also the comparison is not entirely fair, without bags, without taking public transport (quite different from BRU than from Zuid station) and they made it so that the one in the train actually spent time in the lounge before departure whilst the plane was so tight that he almost missed the flight. Try arriving tight on the train, with enough time on the plane, public transport and a bag.
@@corpselizzy was this on a metro or a long-distance train? It makes sense if the creep was in a subway or bus but it’s pretty rare seeing creepy people on long-distance rail
If travel times are not extremely different, I would always prefer a train. I travel quite a lot for work between Bergen and Oslo, and had the train been only about 4 hours I would choose that over the 45 min plane ride every time. Both cities have the train stations in the middle of the center, while the aiports are a bit outside
@@jatterhog Yeah, I've used the night train several times. Will probably try the new lie flat seats on the Bergen line the next time around. Oslo-Bergen with plane is honestly aslo much more than 45/50 min total. Especially if you need to check luggage for the trip. Airport express train from Oslo to the airport (20 minutes) Check in at the airport (at least 30 minutes, but I don't like stressing so usually more). Arrival in Bergen (10 minutes or more if waiting for luggage) and then travel to the city centre (40+ minutes if using the light rail, minimum 20 minutes if going by car) In the end you can easily end up spending 3 hours from city centre to city centre. With the stress of transferring several times and the security check at the airport. So Oslo Bergen in 4 hours (4 hours that can be spent working on a laptop or relaxing) is absolutely to prefer. But sadly 4 hours is far away, especially with the current government.
I do find it hilarious that you “race” from the start despite the fact the train and plane have pre-determined departure times and you have set tickets for set journeys.
Thought about the same. The Eurostar is basicaly an airline on rails with all the security and pre-boarding area bs. Zürich - Geneva would be very interesting because there's a train every 30min, which means little to no waiting time, and because you can just walk up to the train with no security checks or pre-boarding area or even ticket gates you can arrive at the station very late before departure and still make it. For example if they started at the Sechseläutenplatz at xx:15 you would manage to take the xx:32 train to Geneva and by the time the other one would arrive at the airport at about xx:45 you would already be on the move since quarter an hour. I really hope they'll do this race at some point. Because for once the train would have a good chance to win.
I love how Liam is working to make the best of the situation to pull it all together no matter the delays. I hope to see a long haul plane, train, and automobile comparison, who makes it first video in the future with the whole crew.

From my experience, the main pain point for the Eurostar is Brussels. I went to London and back from Rotterdam, and both times we got delays around Brussels. Other than that, a great, comfortable journey by train
every time i've taken a eurostar i've never had an issue around brussels - but could be purely luck lol. maybe theyve gotten worse over the past couple years idk
Great video once again! I love the train vs plane competitions you do! One video suggestion for you guys is doing Montreal to Toronto, plane vs train because im canadian and it would be interestin to see this!
The problem with that route is the plane will win unless it's very heavily delayed (2+ hours). Even Via Rail don't claim it's close, rather they focus on productive time.
Amazing trip (again) guys. Loved every second of it. Good to see Nicky catching up with another win in his column. No channel does more appropriate music than #ThePointsGuyUK #Outstanding
You were lucky with the taxi from Zaventem Airport to Brussels. Normally there is so much traffic that you'd have hated it. The train is not that bad, it brings you from the airport directly to the Brussels Midi Station (via Brussels Nord).
In general trains are more relaxing, but I think the Eurostar is an exception. It's much more similar to the airport experience thanks to all the security, immigration and airport like boarding rituals. All that negates the benefit of taking the train for me.
btw there's a train to Bruxelles-Luxembourg (the station under the parliament) both from Brussels Airport and Brussels North (which I suppose is where the Eurostar arrived). No need of a taxi
Eurostar arrives at Brussels South/Midi. There is a direct train from there too, but the metro and a short walk is quicker. Either way I don't think a car is ever the right choice if you want to race anyone to anywhere in Brussels. Nicky definitely got very lucky with how quickly he got to the centre from the airport
Please explain the sprinting at the start. How does arriving 5 minutes earlier at a train station or an airport help when taking a scheduled train or plane? It's especially silly if you're travelling Eurostar on Business Premier and you arrive 90 minutes before departures. You only need to arrive 10 minutes before departure.
I swear why is it every time they do a race that involves Eurostar a delay occurs on the train? It almost feels rigged hahaha! 🤣😂 I would still choose to travel Eurostar though, I have done the journey before and in most cases, when running efficiently and on time, it is quicker than flying to Belgium; facts and statistics backup that point.
Am I thick or did I miss something. 1 Eurostar journey is the equivalent of 14 flights to Paris. That would mean 1 Eurostar emits the same as 14 flights. I think he meant to say that 1 Eurostar emits 1/14th of the emissions.
PLEASE Could you do a side by side comparison of flying business class on a cheaper connecting route versus a direct route in business class from Heathrow to Dubai to see if it’s worth the extra £££ for the direct route? Guys you should race from 1 Land's End to John O'Groats, the second one from Southampton or London to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and third one from London to Aberdeen/ Inverness
Shame you forgot to invite Nigel Farage along to give you guided tour of your chosen final destination 😉 Lovely race nevertheless. Keep up the good work lads. 👍
That eco stay seems the round way round. Definitely don’t think 1 Eurostar journey is equivalent to 14 flights to Paris?!?! If so, I think the train might need an upgrade
So if the aircraft was delayed by 1hr or so, then that means of aircraft would have won easily without delays. The train delay was only 15mins or so. Clearly the main factor in these travel videos is average speed - so the longer the journey means the aircraft will always win as the aircraft is obviously much faster than the train. The travel at either end of the journey for both people to get to the departure point and destination point will be about the same for both people when using local tubes/trains etc.
Eurostar is the best. If you can get tickets on sale then it's awesome without too many luggage restrictions and I can get it from KC which is 45 mins away on one underground train. Would definitely be into sleeper trains to other parts of Europe with minimal changes if possible
Considering you both had a specific plane or train to get on, you might as well have just started at the airport and train station respectively considering you aren't just rocking up and grabbing the next available service
Can you clarify something you said. What did you mean when you said the Eurostar was equivalent to 14 flights to Paris. Do you mean it replaces 14 flights? Is it's carbon footprint 1/14th of a flight to Paris? Why compare to Paris when you're going to Brussels?
I got a little question right here: Why did you took the taxi? you could also take a train to Brussel Luxembourg from Brussels Airport and Brussel-Midi. (Not hate or something I'm just curious)
