Huzzah! The rhino lives! As someone who's held off painting their other space marine tanks because I couldn't fathom how to go about it, this definitely helps!
@@stemes2860 True! I have a field day weathering with my Imperial Guard tanks (just recently finished repainting an old, half-finished Chimera from my childhood). Of course, those are also camo'd to hell and back (sponges + drybrushing? Yes please). But for some reason, I have a much harder time with Space Marine tanks. I really think it is that simpler scheme combined with the brighter colours. Looks like the weathering goes an extra mile on them.
Those little bits of foam are mighty useful. Agreed that getting something that approximates the texture a real (larger) object at this scale has is crucial
Watching this again, such an exciting video. The rhino keeps getting better and better. Makes me want to create a 30k Death Guard army. You should be getting royalties from GW!
That bit at the end reminds me of some of those old army recruitment vids. But ye I think I'm going to get some painting done on some of my vehicles now. I'm kinda new and I've been worrying about messing it up
I'm gonna use the technics and colours of this awesome Rhino on my House Herpetrax Chaos Knights. Their Colours are already Nurgly, and with your tips and tricks they will be right at home with my Death Guard (30k and 40k) and my CSM from the very people-friendly chapter "The Purge". Thank you for what you do, your work is awesome!
I kno I'm lte to the party, but I like to paint the bottoms of things. Especially tanks. Where I used to game, we used a combination of colored cotton filler and flipping vehicles to denote destroyed vehicles. And we also got tournament points based on your hobbying (cool kitbashes and neat paint jobs abound!) The best of the best got put in the hobbying heroes display case at the store (with the army owners' permission of course). Hell, we'd even do dioramas from cool themed armies in the case from time to time. Always drew the folks in and helped sell minis at the LGS.
Now that's an interesting thought. You might remember an old Warhammer World Ultramarine army with a Techmarine-inspired Razorback? It was mostly grey, with a couple blue panels like you described. It worked surprisingly well!
The Rhino was one of the older GW's plastic kits, your job it:s amazing as usual , with this method other tanks could be painted, expecially those in desert camo.😁
The result is really awesome. I’ll admit that I’m having trouble painting my imperial fists vehicules because Of Cassandora Yellow that pools too much. I will try your tricks of laying it flat and moving the brush in the same direction. I must try the weathering as well on some minis. Thank you for this awesome guide. I’m looking forward to an army shot !
This was a great tutorial and one that will help me in the future building Rhinos. I have used the Marine Juice on some of my sand colored tanks and I like better than the Agrax Earthshade since it is lighter in hue. Thanks for sharing this.
The Goliath should work fairly similarly, though the rounded section for the driver's compartment you might be best off shading while the truck is sitting 'upright' for that one.
The Prussians at some point, though the winter Germans in Contrast is already something you could do with what's on the channel. The uniform and gear are all the same colour; it'd just be applying the same field grey mix to a different miniature, and no camo to worry about! 😂
Well, someone had mentioned that it also works quite well with the Army Painter equivalents. Personally, I just put in an order for the last of the old shades I could find, so I hope I don't have to find out! 😅
from what I've seen of the new shades (thanks almost entirely to Juan Hidalgo on twitter and youtube) it might even work a little better than the current version. the new shades pull a little further into the recesses and pool less on wide surfaces - the latter fact, if nothing else, should make them far easier to slap all over marines!
Theoretically! But definitely painting the armour plates separate to the skeleton structure will work much more easily. I've got a Knight painting guide somewhere back in the archive, mind!
How do you think will it work with the new shades? They seem more fluid and a bit brighter than the classic ones, specially nuln oil… Thanks for the amazing work by the way!
Good question! But I have no idea. 😂 I've actually dropped a fair chunk of change to make sure I don't have to find out for a while; I stocked up on a few bottles of the classic stuff since I've seen what the Nuln Oil looks like compared to the current one and... yeeeah, that's not going to do it for me.
Same principles would apply, I guess. I wouldn't paint a tank in Contrast, but those new ones look as though they might actually have pigment enough to do it, so... try on a flat panel or spare door first?
If you can dodge a marine you can dodge a tank!
That reminds me. When are we going to get 30K Alpha Legion 😜
Glad to know I'm not the only one to think that.

Simple chipping and weathering can really go a long way to adding detail to a pretty basic tank color scheme.

You know every time I watch a 40k themed vid I think the same thing - Epic scale!!!!! So well suited to epic scale!
Such a simple yet effective paint scheme. I would love to see this applied to a modern death guard unit and upload it.

Looks fantastic. I’ll be stealing this scheme when I get round to my Death Guard. Thanks!
My cadians have red fatigues, black armour with yellow detailing. My vehicles I went with eshin grey (krieg themed)

Very good old chap. I like quick & dirty paint techniques.
Would you ever do a battle sisters tank? Would be interesting to see how you would an immolator (stained glass) and an exorcist
Dude this looks fantastic - I'm defo giving this a go when I get to my DG vehicles! :D

Glad you finished the video first before the next one.
Thank you , Troy .
🐺
Fantastic Video. Love the scheme, this has probably persuaded me to paint my HH2.0 army as Death Guard.
Love this! You're videos are so under-rated. One of the best on UA-cam IMO!
Always pleased that someone would think so! 😂
I really do enjoy the variety, glad to be part of your Patreon community.
Awesome, thank you!
Dude, your death guard are perfect :)
Nice looking vehicle. I like to use watered down mournfang brown for weathering. Looks more dirtier rust color
Another great tutorial and amazing timing - just as I get ready to paint my DG vehicles 😀
Inspired to paint some boxes, thanks
That Rhino looks crackin'
This looks like it could be a great scheme for any desert based space marine force, just swapping out the green for the chapter colours
Now that's an interesting thought. You might remember an old Warhammer World Ultramarine army with a Techmarine-inspired Razorback? It was mostly grey, with a couple blue panels like you described. It worked surprisingly well!
Big love to that hedgehog lurking in the background.
Excellent paint job really nice with the detail of rust.
Great video. Nice weathiring and chipping, I love the final result! Thank you. Now I may have the courage to try ando a half-decent job on a vehicle.
You can do it!

u should try the new Imperial Fist contrast
I wish i had seen your videos before i started painting my Death Guard!
The paintjob looks really good! Awesome job man!👍
Thanks for the video, the tank looks amazing. Can't wait for the next video.

Great to hear! Always pleased to know it works out the way you'd like. :D
Just about to attempt a Goliath truck, thank you for this! Stacks and tracks baby.
The Goliath should work fairly similarly, though the rounded section for the driver's compartment you might be best off shading while the truck is sitting 'upright' for that one.
Good work my good fellow. I got myself a Demios pattern rhino. but I put the chaos space marine up grade bit on it for my death guard army. 💯🖤☣️
Looks great!
7:12 that's already a lot more even coverage than I can ever achieve when shading tanks :(
Yay trackie, tank vehicles!
love it buddy
I think the dmg looks fine man, looks rough like it should!
Amazing tutorial! Any plans on doing more bolt action or napoleonics? Maybe winter germans in contrast paints or prussian infantry? 👀

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio oh, hadnt thought about that 😅 keep up the good work
With GW now changing the nuln oil, agrax and reikland fleshade recipie, I wander how this will effect the "marine juice"
Well, someone had mentioned that it also works quite well with the Army Painter equivalents. Personally, I just put in an order for the last of the old shades I could find, so I hope I don't have to find out! 😅
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio think I might order 2 lots of each as well 😆

It's Deathguard. Never too much rust.
See, now that's my line of reasoning!
I've been scared to paint my first knight tyrant but I think you've helped a lot with this. A knight is just a walking tank, right?
Theoretically! But definitely painting the armour plates separate to the skeleton structure will work much more easily. I've got a Knight painting guide somewhere back in the archive, mind!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudioI'll dig and find it this evening. Thanks

I really love it. I admit that my Spartan tank is very blotchy from the wash.
I didn't do it with the same patience you did yours.
Learn patience, you must! It's a long process, painting each panel at a time, but it does save a lot of fuss and work later on.
Spar-tan! Spar-tan! SPAR-TAN!!!
What if I'm painting Imperial Fists with that new contrast? xD

Well, the autogenerated captions seem to think crimson fests are a thing... 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
I didn't think my accent was *that* strong... 😂
