I loved the detail with Matthew Lillard's character, how throughout the film he's erratic and jumpy, prone to outbursts, and suffers a handful of mental breakdowns because of his visions. He literally never sits still because of his abilities. Then he dies. And when we see his spirit, he's finally calm and has a level expression on his face. All his life, his powers have pretty much tormented him, forcing him to see other people's trauma and share in it(which was presumably worse with the spirits) and now that he died, he's finally at peace. I like that detail with his character and Lillard performed it all very well

It’s funny, for a psychic Dennis is such a realistic character. He’s so tired of all this ghost shit, like just the “god I hate it when they do that” line felt so very relatable
Dennis is easily my favorite character in this film. You get that he is nothing like the uncle and what's-her-name, only having worked with the former because he preyed on his desire to find someplace that accepted him, and genuinely regretted the pain he caused.

This is one of those horror films that would have probably been better as a TV series instead. Gives the backstories of the different ghosts a chance to take center stage and stick in your head. You could even have Arthur be recruited by his uncle during the hunts as a way to help with his financial troubles. Builds up the twist between him and Denis and makes the betrayal of his uncle actually have some weight.
Let’s pray they don’t do some stupid shit like that. Series production just never turns out quite as good.. not to mention all the low budget shit they’d be dealing with

Honestly, I’m totally convinced that this is what Shaggy started doing after the Scooby Gang broke up. I mean how else is Shaggy supposed to understand Scooby Doo besides Psychic ability?
I agree. During the whole movie, I kinda just wanted to now more about Dennis Rafkin. It's too bad he sacrificed himself far away from the Eye of Hell; he could have easily been the Thirteenth Ghost, freeing the ghosts he helped to capture, as well as his new friends.
As a kid I always thought the ghosts were numbered from least dangerous to most dangerous, which is why The Hammer, Jackal, and Juggernaut were the last numbered ghosts since they could do the most damage.

Police dashcams and body cameras of blood and killings: Alright Any sort of nudity mild or above: *Hold it right there mister!* Not to say that there is anything wrong with blood & gore but still.
*FUN FACT* (in case anyone doesn't know) The following year, Matthew Lillard plays Shaggy in the two live action movies *_Scooby-Doo_* (2002) and its sequel *_Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed_* (2004), yet there was 1985 animated series several years earlier: The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo with Vincent Price voiced Vincent Van Ghoul (bit a vampire and magician combination) And interestingly, before Thirteen Ghosts, the first movie Dark Castle Entertainment produced was House on Haunted Hill (1999) the remake of the original _House on Haunted Hill_ (1959) - that one starred Vincent Price 😏
15:00 you can't blame the Hammer. He was falsely accused and saw his family hang. He took revenge and was executed for it. Besides Jean, I feel sorry for this one because he didn't deserve that.

🤣 when i was a kid i protected myself from the ghosts by surrounding my bed with electrical gadgets like my remote control and my xbox controller i used to pretend they generated a shield that nothing could pass through
5:47 I like the little trickery of leaving the kill graphic of Damon up on the screen while quickly mentioning Cyrus to fool viewers who haven't seen the movie.
Interesting facts about Thirteen Ghosts (2001) In the movie, the characters need special glasses to see the ghosts. In the original 13 Ghosts (1960), viewers needed special glasses to see the ghosts. This is one of the few details from the original that was kept. Herbert Duncanson, who plays The Hammer, was not originally hired as an actor for the film but as a stand-in for reference and test shots. When the original actor cast for the role never showed up, he was given the role of that ghost as a last-minute replacement, as there was no time to hold auditions for a recast. Duncan MacLeod's dragon katana from Highlander (1992) appears as one of the swords in Cyrus' collection. John DeSantis (Juggernaut) was gifted a finished life cast by the production after filming wrapped up, as a memento.
I absolutely adore Matthew Lillard in this movie, his manic energy just fits the frenetic editing style so perfectly and he always knows exactly what movie he is. Tbh I lose interest once he dies lol. I’m obsessed with the character design of the ghosts though and I wish we saw more of them in the movie. I’d honestly love this to be remade as a tv show, it’s be a super enjoyable ride. Great job as always though, James 🥰
13 ghosts and ghost ship are two of my favorite horror movies i saw as a kid (i think edited for TV on SciFi maybe?) and a huge part of why i came to love the genre. i still love rewatching them, despite all their shortcomings plot-wise, but now finding out they had the same director explains so much lol
Honestly what they should do, make a show out of this. Have an episode dedicated to each one of the ghost and then maybe have a 4 parter with the family. It could really work.
He is talking about the actress who played Kalina in this movie, she was also in Matilda, Army of Darkness and the two Amazing Spider Man as Peter Parker's mom
@Ashely Tupper. Matthew Lillard actually hated Thirteen Ghosts, he said it’s one of his worst films. Though I personally enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. Matthew Lillard has said that his 2 favourite films he was in are Scream and SLC Punk.

Would also explain why the first three were a kid, a woman with her hands tied behind her back, and Jean.
Shouldn't the burned wife be first then since she wasn't tormented or anything?

*FUN FACT* (in case anyone doesn't know)
The following year, Matthew Lillard plays Shaggy in the two live action movies *_Scooby-Doo_* (2002) and its sequel *_Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed_* (2004), yet there was 1985 animated series several years earlier: The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo with Vincent Price voiced Vincent Van Ghoul (bit a vampire and magician combination)
And interestingly, before Thirteen Ghosts, the first movie Dark Castle Entertainment produced was House on Haunted Hill (1999) the remake of the original _House on Haunted Hill_ (1959) - that one starred Vincent Price 😏
