Most of those RVs are not that new and not in good condition. Some are in horrible condition. You can't get into an apartment unless you have a good job or unless you have a good job and can room with other people. Or, unless you are persistent and can navigate waiting lists and such.

Half a century ago a simple lifestyle change/ decision to living in a camper or RV parked on a river or lake in a campground when you got old was a option in reality , no van-life BS, no class shame, no homeless stigma , Now getting old i am dreading the thought of possibly living in an RV, much less living in an RV in the city and sleeping in a Wal Mart parking lot just because it's free, somewhat safe and legal (i guess) or park on some random residential street knowing i will be moving sooner or later by force or free will.. Or being stuck somewhere because the POS- RV is broken down & i can't afford to fix it, & have nowhere to store it while repairing & living in it, or have enough money to even to tow it. So much for that delusional freedom of the open road concept of yesteryear. I think in some parts of Oregon they hold these homeless RV's for 20 days @ $100 a day storage fee, If someone can't come up with the $2k plus tow fee to get it out of the yard, the RV's are now scrapped & destroyed after 20 days, so they won't magically re-appear again with someone living or squatting in them on the street, Some forested areas in Oregon literally have scores of old broken down abandoned motorhomes tucked away & parked in what could be considered transient or homeless communities .Forest fires caused by some sketchy people living there is an omni present threat & danger. The multi Millions spent on bandages for the homelessness problem, you'd think they (the GoV would buy some undesirable land by a freeway or something, & fence it in so by mandate these people would park their vehicles, build their pallet shanties and pitch their tents there for the long term.add a water spigot and some outhouses & they are good to go & better off than before, Would save the city, county ,state and federal government a pile of money and Grant $, clean up the neighborhoodsm sanitize the shitty sidewalks 1 last time in business districts, But that would be a job killer for all the cops, rangers, clean up crews and obvious wasteful oversight managers now employed for this specific epidemic. I read that it cost around $70k per year per homeless person, $60k per years for someone in prison That's 5x the amount i receive on my SS check after working 50 years and paying into that.. Living in an RV or camper isn't as easy as it sounds. It costs lots in maintenance, they leak terribly.
