I doubt. It will be propably very hard to play this game legally, after closing 3DS e-shop. This game should be ported to PC or Switch after Soul Hackers 2 release.

I am actually playing through it right now for the first time. I bought a 3ds a few months back so I could play this game and smt iv and strange journey. I've really been enjoying soul hackers
First game I picked up for my 2DS XL. I intended on picking up Shin Megami Tensei IV, but they didn't have a copy. Figured I'd buy this cuz of the SMT name. Glad I did tbh cuz it's been pretty great so far.
I heavily disagree as well. This OP is very poor put together with many spoilers and while I really like the music, it does not fit the visuals at all, especially towards the end, where it kind of devolves into a battle shounen. Also the artstyle reminds me more of Off-brand anime (hentai), than anything. Now compare that to the saturn/ps1 version. You have very fitting almost ambient music that perfectly catches the tone. It's subtle enough to not spoil much of anything, but it also leaves you intrigued. And best thing of all, it does not try to be a bad AMV.
There's a live action TV show based on the prequel to this. It's pretty bad with awful CGI but does have English subs somewhere on the internet and since the OG game doesn't even have a FAN TRANSLATION it's the only way to experience the original story in English. (Soul Hackers is the sequel)

It’s not really that bad upon retrospect. Japanese MegaTen fans have a shitload of ways to experience the first two Devil Summoner games. Also for Western fans, Soul Hackers came to the 3DS back in 2012, so it’s only been about 10 years since the last release. Plus there were so many other titles on the 3DS like SMT4/4A, SJR, Devil Survivor 1+2 remakes, etc.

I have a special fondness for it myself. I beat this before 3 and 4 actually. Well, with SMT3 I got the un-ending so that may have been why this is rated higher on my list. 4 was great for me, but I did not beat it first.
I find it has more of a personality than 3 or 4. The cyberpunk theming absolutely helps. Also doesn't help that I grew up in '90s and watched Hackers and other stuff like that lol.

This seems to be the biggest english Megaten fanbase around, so I'll take my problem here. I've been trying to find information on the singer of the opening to Soul Hackers 3DS. The opening itself says it is sung by "wink wink", but I can't for the life of me find anything else by them. I quite liked her singing, so I was hoping to find more music by her, but at this point I can't even find any reference to her existing. I found an old Japanese duo called just "Wink", but they broke up in the 90s so it can't be them. All my google searches only yield people mentioning her as the singer of this particular song, and I can't find any record of her on any music database or even any torrents or MP3s of her songs. Is this some really obscure indie singer in Japan they grabbed off the street? An alias for a singer who didn't want their name revealed for whatever reason (be it legal or personal, I know sometimes this happens with voice actors).
While I love this port (especially since they kept the music and gameplay still intact unlike Ibunroku Megami Persona) I will never understand how remaking an opening with a really j-pop song makes it pop so much. Just seems really out of place when you compare it to the original, but people love it.

If you think this is a "really j-pop song" (I guess because it's fast-paced and has Engrish vocals?) you haven't heard much J-pop. The dark electronic vibe in this song is way outside your average animu theme song and perfectly matches the tone of the game. (It's composed by Ryota Koduka, who also did the excellent score for SMT IV.) If there's anything lacking about this intro it's the mediocre direction and animation quality. But definitely not the song.

This opening sadly overselling the game. It could’ve been fun, if it was a conscious of its camp, but it’s just product of its time. I mean it’s alright, but you can reverse engineer a better story from this intro.

desu2 the anime was fun... though not too faithful to the game.
Still, I'm saying this since I only managed to get my hands on teh game after watching bits of the anime.
I couldn't help but think that this seriously looks like an anime... just saying~
