    I like to call this trope a “lead baring flashback”,
    Meaning a flash back that is the excuse for the characters bad behavior and they are so devoid of any real personality that if it weren’t for that flashback, they might as well have none at all.

      Theres even a new manga that broke a certain record of shonen jump. But its complete trash, a world where magic exists but only women can use it, they get magic via monsters. One day, the strongest witch is fighting one of those monsters but cant kill it because SHE IS A WOMAN, then the main character shows up, and since hes a guy, he kills the monster and gets the most op powers in the world. Then he becomes a tanjiro clone. The worst kind of modern mc's

    I'm almost afraid my OC falls into "gore for the sake of gore".
    He's an immortal knight that has to save his princess from an immortal monster, no matter what it takes. The knight can turn back time when he's killed and the monster can regenerate on the spot. Throughout the story you see the monster kill the knight so many times to the point the knight starts developing PTSD but continues to push through to save his princess.

      @JScomicsLTD  10 днів тому +6

      I wouldn't worry given the premise of your idea, the gore makes sense for the world-building you are making!
      Remember this list is not definitive and that some of these tropes can work if done correctly, but most of all enjoy the experience of writing :)

He knows all of the stuff he said was bullshit but when the girls went an made a full power undercover team to fight made up enemies he was totally screwed. He just was like fuck guess I'll live out my dark hero fantasy. He is consistent in not killing innocent people and only going after the corruption of the world as well as those who cross him. The whole reason I like him is his over the top acting because the worst thing a gray stu can be is boring. That's why I got bored of overlord azin lost the things that made him interesting.

    I'm not sure if you intended these tropes to be about certain genres or demographics, but;
    1:34 I find it very annoying that most Villainesses are just 'misunderstood'. They can't be villainesses if they didn't do something serious enough to get branded that way. There are very few villainess stories that I've read where the branding makes sense. I wish the villainesses were more drastic, & plot was in line with such a character.

    Mary sues in my opinion can be perfect with skills and talent but they need to have some sort of flaw
    Also I’m thinking of an oc series and one dude is loosely based off me, granted I made him when I was like 6 or 7. He does fall in love with another character but it takes a while and is not the main focus of the characters or the story. He is also an alien who doesn’t look like me.
    So I don’t know if this falls into the self insert category or just a character category

  • @ghostthelizard
    @ghostthelizard 13 годин тому

    Characters who can do a lot (or even everything) arent necessarily bad. Its just, a lot of them seem like prodigies. I got an oc who can do a lot of things but there are two caveats:
    First - hes like over 1000 years old and spent years getting good at those things (although his magic ability literally is copying so it makes it easier to learn stuff)
    Second - after not doing some things for years he kinda got rusty. Like he used to be able to play cello but the last time he did it was maybe 50 years ago so if he picks up one now he might just not be able to do it
    Shonen anime tend to get it right too. Usually the characters dont start out as super strong. Take Ichigo, Goku, Naruto, Deku... all of them arent that strong at first and get stronger as the story progresses. Of course sometimes they have like very unique and special powers nobody else has that they unlock later on, but the point is that its not like immediately there. Meanwhile in isekais its like even if they arent immediately strong, they dont take long to become strong or its like rimuru from the slime anime where he may be a weak slime but he has one if the strongest powers away right from the start
    I also think the all powerful mary sues are very fitting for comedy stories. Thinking of Mashle, Mob Psycho and Saiki K. Actually like idk if they would really be mary sues because their personalities are more fleshed out and flawed than your average mary sue, but in regards to power level - yeah mashle can basically punch away any enemy, but considering the tone of the manga its very much what youd expect and quite funny to see him punch super powerful mages like theyre nothing

    A few years back some friends and I made our own Attack On Titan ocs. I watched this video scared that my character might suffer frome these but glad to see that he dosen't. He is a killing powerhouse but that's purely because aot is brutal already and he's a soldier that has to kill to survive and protect. It does take a heavy toll on his mental health like real war does to real soldiers. The edgy issues and the backstory as an excuse actually lines up more with my friend's oc who is a jerk to everyone, super edgy, and kills out of enjoyment. Interesting that he always criticized my oc but his is more of an edgy mary sue

    Can't figure out whats wrong with literally top 1 trop. Some people are just bad, they have a reason to become bad, but its not justification and for some separate evil action they don't need to have reasoning more complex than "cose i wana". If you are not planning redemption arc unjustified evil acts of vilan are ok and redemption arcs or more often fake "redemption" arcs that doesn't feel like it are a bit overused in modern media

    • @JScomicsLTD
      @JScomicsLTD  13 днів тому

      It concerns the laziness of the 'evil' acts. Murder is enough to consider a character evil; adding on themes of SA just for the sake of 'they are evil' is distasteful, especially if it never comes up again.

    • @markfreenick
      @markfreenick 13 днів тому

      @@JScomicsLTD ...why? Evil character doing multiple evil things. Murder is most common one that doesn't makes audience really hate character unless done in most gross way possible, we can add torture, slavery, underage soldiers and so on on this list and so on, why specifically not sa?

      @@JScomicsLTD So what if I want my villain to be OC, there's no reasoning behind it other than: She's simply curious about how that person would react or others around her
      Why?: Because she's someone who on Earth was already pretty fucked up and anti-social I don't wanna go into a deep dive(But it'd explain why she does what she does)
      But basically in her new life she basically has begun to view people more and more as playthings/toys she has an obsession/fascination with ESPECIALLY human nature
